  1. have you ever thought about asking a coder if it is hard or not?
  2. well, I agree that it machine itself could be named differently to something more sci-fi(ish). IC the fax and fax machines work independently from telecomms - both the Aurora and the Odin (as are most of not all interstellar vessels and station) are fitted with a blespace communications arry - it utilizes, as the name implies, actual bluspace (hence the "could be" unreliability) instead of radio waves or something similar. So the tech behind is is actually lore friendly and sci-fi, just not the name of the thing itself. Maybe we can re-name it for NBT, if it really is needed, since the distances there are even greater.
  3. Honestly - pretty good read. More stuff and fluff like this is always good. And this reads like good fluff. I like it.
  4. its not a plot hole its a technical limitation.
  5. People are told not to do it - at best only when the shuttle is already in transit. You could expand this argument to "why do faxes exist when there are long-range holocomms" etc. etc. I guess you could force the Odin to be on a different NTnet but why bother if you can just /not/ do it.
  6. Sorry to tell you, but that was actually me. I wrote the replies and boarded as the overseeing agent. It was not actually planned to die that that but such can be the game! I thought it would give the round a bit more traction. The full welcoming committee was also actually me as the Commander and Prate as the CCSA, together with some ghosts from dchat as the troopers. But I am happy to read you liked it, I try to do things like these whenever I can and in the capacity I am able to.
  7. The Company values you as an employee, that is why CCIA, together with the Morale Division decided to reward our loyal employees with a Christmas Party. Everyone is invited (you are also allowed to bring up to 3 friends). There will be different traditional activities, gifts, free food and drink. At this time the planning phase is not yet finished, but a live act and special guests are expected. You all have received an invitational card in your mailbox, as well as on your NT ExtraNet adress. Contractors are also explicitely welcome. Event Type: Canon Event Scale: Medium Assigned Admin: Arrow768 OOC Event Description: With NBT maybe, eventually, probably closing in, this might be the last Christmas on the Aurora. This year nothing siniser, no Krampus, just friends and a good time is what we want to do. Who knows about it : Everyone. Host/participants: KingOfThePing, rest pending Notes: Good vibes only.
  8. Fellow gamers, once more I have a life (and game) changing suggestion. When you have a glass in hand and click on someone with the glass in the active hand and THEY also have a glass in their active hand - they get a prompt if they want to make a toast with you! This basically means a sound plays of clinking glasses. Isn't that great? You could even extend that range one tile so you can do it over tables. How about that?
  9. All experimental chemicals are currently broken. So until that is resolved...
  10. Most suprising thing I read so far, Colfer playing an actual character :^^^^^^^^^^^) more seriously, I didnt know the numbers of burn and laser damage and it does sound ridiculous. A normal human has around 5-6 liters of blood. Instantly getting evaporized 15% of it equals would be ~750 ml just deleted from your body. You would have a lot of problems if that would happen. I know, I say it myself that real life cannot always be applied to SS13, I just wanted to say it for comparison. It should be nerfed a lot. I actually feel guns need a big balancing patch(tm) across the board probably. Maybe I look into this with the help of a coder.
  11. I actually think this is a pretty great idea
  12. Oh, I thought we were only talking about AI/Command, my bad. I agree with you, it should just be added to every application format.
  13. You literally acknowledge this when applying
  14. I respect that, it's one of the reasons I don't play antags myself anymore. We should make things easier for the few that do, though. At worst, give them the benefit of the doubt that they dont want to ruin your round on purpose.
  15. Comparing 2 hour rounds with week long Pen and Paper campaigns is more than lacking. Compare it with an one shot if you really must and even there I had more than one character die or let die. It's really not a good comparison you are drawing. Yes. If it makes sense and there is a reason behind it someone can kill your character. What gimmicks have you brought to Aurora so far? I'd like to hear examples made by you during the time you played here, since your standards to "good antag play" seem to be quite high.
  16. I 100% agree with Marlon here again. It is also pretty insulting to indirectly imply that people who play more than one character have characters with "not enough depth" or something similar. You choose to play a singular character, this is fine, a lot of players do that, but this does not elevate you over others. If you dont have another character, then play a ghost role, maintenance drone or whatever. What you write is exactly the "problem" that is discussed here in length. Roleplay does not mean you are always 100% in control of what happens with or around your character. Calling other players boring and unoriginal, just because they don't come up with a never before seen gimmick before is also just really rude. The argument about time restraints is also very subjective. During work/uni days and even during some saturdays and sundays I can only play 1 round (sometimes even none, believe it or not) and how much time you can play a video game every day is simply a non-argument on why someone should be allowed to kill you in-game or not. Aurora is also far from being focused death and destruction. I abstain from quoting your post apart because Marlon already said everything nessecary, but still, some things you wrote really make me scratch my head and make it look like you have a very narrow-minded view on how a good antagonist play should look like. This is by no means an insult, this is just how your post makes it appear to be.
  17. No, I think it could be similar to the new PR system where people who have shown to be trusted with "moderating" this can have the same ability to veto a story. To take the workload from staff, you know what I mean?
  18. Among other things, you say this: and this: So what else do you want to express, other than it is unengaging to play these jobs? I also don't felt antagonized. I don't play some of these roles myself. But pointing out the obvious, which has been pointed out often before brings no one nowhere. Instead you are free to brainstorm or suggest changes that help fix these issues. You also contradict yourself by saying that jobs like chef and bartender (two of the best roles on the station, in my personal opinion) get high traffic despite almost never engaging with the antag, so I am really not sure what you mean by it is a "culture problem". I am not sure what your point being so hostile towards me is - I even agreed with your summary at the end. RP roles are not unwanted, I might have worded it wrong. Titles like Nurse were removed because no one played them, there is little reason to hold these alt titles when absolutely no one is using them and even that was met with criticism. But all this is derailing into off-topic, just as questions on why some RP heavy roles are played so much less than shooty shooty ones. To your other point on why the most RP heavy security role is the highest RP one I cannot say anything. I don't play security and I am not sure what the RP heaviest role there is. Investigator? This also is only a kind-of-recent development, because no one fucking ever played Forensic Tech. It gained traffic after the problems the role had got fixed. Just as the library and chapel could surely be improved or made mor attractive.
  19. Xenoarcheology is 100% completely based on RP. The job is literally what you make of it. Best role in science by far. Xenobotany arguably, too. Making guns in RnD is shit and Exploratory Chemistry is broken with all experimental chems being unobtainable right now. Chaplain is in a weird spot, it's a left over dead "job" that one can argue has little place on the server, but there have been players that play this job with great passion and dedication and fun is subjective. The library is kind of not engaging enough for a few reasons - I have plans for a rework/remodel of it but I will wait until NBT arrives before anything major happens with this. Medical players are not hostile. After almost 2 years I have actually played medical again - there are a lot of great players and characters in there. You are poking at a deeper problem but on a surface level - people want to go shoot the antag again, this is why RP and RP roles like the nurse used to be are unwanted. Ask yourself why we have a sublevel care ward that sees exactly 0 traffic at any point of the day. People don't want to RP with medical, I have seen people get angry ICly and OOCly for medical players trying attempting RP, instead of just treating people. They dont want to pain RP and sit around they want the healing juice and go shoot at the bad guys again. Medical is also one of the if not THE most hectical department. If you fuck up someone could get taken out of the round and in the worst case they make you responsible for it. I agree with your argument that this is kind of a bandaid for a problem only like, 2 jobs have but the rest of what you wrote is poking at surface level observations at best. Fun is subjective as I wrote above and just because you find these jobs unengaging that doesnt mean that they are. RP heavy jobs is painfully hard to engage others with because often just want to go pointy stick towards bad man direction and it angers me that it gets written off as "these jobs have no mechanics and antags dont involve them".
  20. While I am not Lancer, so I can only speak on my behalf and not the entirety of CCIA, I'd think, as in real life, you do not need a warrant for a fine.
  21. There wouldn't be a problem to adjust or regulate the use of a holo-ticketer, e.g. it is only usable for minor infractions. That shouldnt be the problem
  22. I think it's a great idea. The argument people bring "no one uses it" is also not a good one. Some things are not used because no one cares to engage people with it. I think this is a great way to make the newscaster more interesting. I'd have a million stories I would want to write. Maybe after some successful or liked stories one can be something like a trusted editor? There are good options this can be moderated now that I think about it.
  23. I like the idea but how would you prevent people from shitposting/writing very conflicting stuff about existing lore? Through this editor role you mentioned?
