Among other things, you say this: and this: So what else do you want to express, other than it is unengaging to play these jobs? I also don't felt antagonized. I don't play some of these roles myself. But pointing out the obvious, which has been pointed out often before brings no one nowhere. Instead you are free to brainstorm or suggest changes that help fix these issues. You also contradict yourself by saying that jobs like chef and bartender (two of the best roles on the station, in my personal opinion) get high traffic despite almost never engaging with the antag, so I am really not sure what you mean by it is a "culture problem". I am not sure what your point being so hostile towards me is - I even agreed with your summary at the end. RP roles are not unwanted, I might have worded it wrong. Titles like Nurse were removed because no one played them, there is little reason to hold these alt titles when absolutely no one is using them and even that was met with criticism. But all this is derailing into off-topic, just as questions on why some RP heavy roles are played so much less than shooty shooty ones. To your other point on why the most RP heavy security role is the highest RP one I cannot say anything. I don't play security and I am not sure what the RP heaviest role there is. Investigator? This also is only a kind-of-recent development, because no one fucking ever played Forensic Tech. It gained traffic after the problems the role had got fixed. Just as the library and chapel could surely be improved or made mor attractive.

Xenoarcheology is 100% completely based on RP. The job is literally what you make of it. Best role in science by far. Xenobotany arguably, too. Making guns in RnD is shit and Exploratory Chemistry is broken with all experimental chems being unobtainable right now. Chaplain is in a weird spot, it's a left over dead "job" that one can argue has little place on the server, but there have been players that play this job with great passion and dedication and fun is subjective. The library is kind of not engaging enough for a few reasons - I have plans for a rework/remodel of it but I will wait until NBT arrives before anything major happens with this. Medical players are not hostile. After almost 2 years I have actually played medical again - there are a lot of great players and characters in there. You are poking at a deeper problem but on a surface level - people want to go shoot the antag again, this is why RP and RP roles like the nurse used to be are unwanted. Ask yourself why we have a sublevel care ward that sees exactly 0 traffic at any point of the day. People don't want to RP with medical, I have seen people get angry ICly and OOCly for medical players trying attempting RP, instead of just treating people. They dont want to pain RP and sit around they want the healing juice and go shoot at the bad guys again. Medical is also one of the if not THE most hectical department. If you fuck up someone could get taken out of the round and in the worst case they make you responsible for it. I agree with your argument that this is kind of a bandaid for a problem only like, 2 jobs have but the rest of what you wrote is poking at surface level observations at best. Fun is subjective as I wrote above and just because you find these jobs unengaging that doesnt mean that they are. RP heavy jobs is painfully hard to engage others with because often just want to go pointy stick towards bad man direction and it angers me that it gets written off as "these jobs have no mechanics and antags dont involve them".

While I am not Lancer, so I can only speak on my behalf and not the entirety of CCIA, I'd think, as in real life, you do not need a warrant for a fine.

There wouldn't be a problem to adjust or regulate the use of a holo-ticketer, e.g. it is only usable for minor infractions. That shouldnt be the problem

I think it's a great idea. The argument people bring "no one uses it" is also not a good one. Some things are not used because no one cares to engage people with it. I think this is a great way to make the newscaster more interesting. I'd have a million stories I would want to write. Maybe after some successful or liked stories one can be something like a trusted editor? There are good options this can be moderated now that I think about it.
-
I like the idea but how would you prevent people from shitposting/writing very conflicting stuff about existing lore? Through this editor role you mentioned?

Oh my god this is in off topic, I hate you

Medical looks sexy enough to make me play medical again after 2 years

To answer your question: 1. I'd say it's both believability and escalation, in a way. HRP tends more to built longer lasting stories with characters and the universe they live in, trying to build a believable world. 2. Yes, clearly, since even people coming from other HRP servers (the little there are) have to adjust to our roleplay standards. 3. People will not know what level of roleplay to expect when seeing the server on the hub. Please explain to me, what "Clubhouse mentality" means, I couldn't figure out what that is. To answer the last question, yes, of course moderators and admins can enforce the server guidelines. But why make it harder by not pre-filtering the people who are just not looking for a HRP enviroment to play in? You make it sound like that is something bad. Some people just want to fuck around with constant chaos. This is fine, but Aurora is just not the place for that. This has absolutely nothing to do with avoiding people to join. It just signals people who do not seek this kind of game to not join the server and waste their time. Again, there is nothing wrong with that. People have different tastes and signalling what kind of taste is needed/wanted for our server is in no form gatekeeping. Everyone is free to join if they want, they just have to follow the rules and standards that are expected of them.

The HRP tag is no form of gatekeeping. Nor is the divide between LRP HRP and MRP something SS13 specific. If someone new looks at the server list, such tags are to help identify the goal and general level of "seriousness" of a server. Someone looking for casual chaotic fun doesn't want to waste his time no a HRP server - which is fine. The levels of RP standards are also fairly different, you can see it with anyone new coming from Bay (I am legally required to point out that this is an example). I don't see anything bad about this tag, nor are they archaic from an older era. Neither is it a "badge" to wear on your chest. It is simply an aid to identify the level of standards that are expected and enforced. I'd even go so far to say that Aurora's RP is indeed heavier than other servers, but you are entirely correct - not because of the label, but of the community that plays and stays here.

Roleplaying: Dialogue and Being Murdered Are The Same Thing
KingOfThePing replied to Marlon P.'s topic in General
I cannot stress how much I agree with this. Also, people pretend like dying is a game ender. You have 20 minutes and then you can literally jump back into it. A lot of people are also CLEARLY scared to kill people now, because players get buttblasted about it and no one wants to deal with complaints (totally understandable). I vividly remember a round where my captain got held at gunpoint and the dude KNEW I WILL RAT HIM OUT TO SECURITY THE SECOND HE RUNS AWAY BUT STILL LET ME LIVE. Because he was afraid I get mad when he shoots me. It's stupid. Killing someone can drive a story. Even if you receive maybe only three lines of dialogue, it can drive a round. Please kill my characters if it helps your round. Please kill my characters if you have no choice. Please kill my characters when it would be stupid to let them live. PLEASE DONT THINK THAT DELIVERING 20 MINUTES OF DIALOGUE IS THE ONLY WAY TO RP. -
Sleepy's Command Whitelist - Goldman Time

This is like your fourth time to apply for Head, why did you lose the whitelist the last times? -
No one wants to fucking sit around for 30 (e.g.) minutes for "injuries" to heal. applying real life logic to SS13 often doesn't work, this is one of those cases. Also your entire concept is kind of levered out by one new chemical everyone in medical will just carry around and instantly inject into everyone who all so much just looks injured ("just in case bro"). prescriptions also are kind of a novelty. prescriptions are for something longer lasting, like something chronic. Having to do a million prescriptions plus the shit you have to do anyway in chemistry sounds just bad. also why does it matter that some chemicals only heal injury damage in "ridiculously small amounts" when everyone is just injecting the new wonder-chemical that converts damage anyway? Dont know what you are trying to fix here, honestly

I could only attend 2 of the 3 events but they were fun. I am biased since I helped out with it but still, I think it was something entirely different for a change. Having a Halloween arc instead of the yearly Halloween party was a nice change, too. The details were very nice and I think the people who actually played got really invested into it. The way how freeform it was, was also pretty impressive. I dont know how limiting SS13 is in this regard, but mystery and (kind of) grounded paranormal stuff is just something I dig big. Currently its hard to keep up with all the lore, but I was sure to take my time to read all the arc related articles and trying to piece it all together. Great stuff. Was just too scared to die in the end so I had to chicken out 😅

Okay, I understand that it is not a top priority. I will suggest it at a later time again, then

I have already said it before and I'll say it again: Rename Head of Security to Chief of Security. We are moving towards real life job titles with the rest - do it here, too. Head of Security is just a very weird title. Chief of Security is a title that sounds better and falls more in-line with the rest of the job titles.
