Some points have been made, some points have been brought up that make me scratch my head. The Horizon is an exploration vessel, not a research vessel. We are not researching phoron, we are looking for it. I don't know where this stubborn opinion that we are a research ship are stems from. Maybe someone wrote it somewhere sometime long ago but it's not the case. Now, to the events. I believe it is a very big task to try to involve everyone of the crew. It's nigh impossible I'd say. Fact is that ship-to-ship combat involves more crew into combat and conflict than ever before in a very natural way. The Horizon is no military vessel but deep space exploration or missions that involve only one ship mean you have to take care of yourself. There is nothing wrong. There was a deliberate choice against up-armoring security or give them boarding pods. It's fine as is and even if given a bigger arsenal, together with heavy weapons it would not make them a military. Or at least not more than the PMCG characters already are. On the events - I personally didn't find the first dreary futures too engaging. This one is much better. Especially the last event, where there was both an away mission AND a space battle was very cool. Really engaging and stakes were high. Really liked it a lot. I agree that there must be better available summaries for the players who couldnt attend. The very nature of our new setting makes situations more complicated, politically and geopolitical. All in all, let's be honest - no one wants a nother politics arc where some random politician holds a speech on the holodeck. If I want my share of IC politics, I read the news articles. This doesnt mean that there should never be something like this, but currently events build on intruige and mystique. Very well actually. Lore locations have to be utilized more, but a lot is still work in progress, including away sites, planets, ruins, etc. It is a gargantuan task to implement all this and it takes time, that's why I dont understand statements like It's undermining the great tasks that have been undertaken by everyone who was and is involved. Feedback has been very good and while I dont always agree with the loremasters they both do an actually good job with what is going on. I might risk coming off as rude, but people who don't contribute at all, might not see the really big amount of work this is. Sure, buddy just like the last 20 times someone called this. 👍

Sputnik5927 - Tajara Whitelist Application
KingOfThePing replied to Sputnik5927's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I know it can be a bit baffling to actually receive an actual comment and critique and not just "he's/she's great +1". You are not her to convince me, though. Yet I just state my personal experiences with you and your characters (and point out things I didnt like in the application). To sum it up I have seen you play a lot and also played with your characters. I know how you play and I personally find it not good, to put it nicely. I have no confidence that you can play and uphold the lore of Tajara, the fact alone that this is yet another security character of you fills me with no confidence. But again, you are not here to convince me. -
Sputnik5927 - Tajara Whitelist Application
KingOfThePing replied to Sputnik5927's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Mmmh, I am honest with you I am not convinced in you, your other characters and not in this application either. Even viewed isolated this application contains the bare minimum what is needed to submit one. You mention a lot of points you probably thought need to be in an application (like religion and the second revolution) without actually explaining what they mean for Tazan. Here are some examples, it's not exhaustive since it's late and don't want to write a novel, but I can expand it tomorrow if it's wanted: - You mentioned Tazan got an education. Alright, what did this entail? He is from a seemingly poor and oppressed mining village. What education can his parents and elders give him? Was it something special that he received education and why did he get any if it was special? If he received some education why didn't we want to make more out of it? - He was subjected to many religious services and readings of the Ma'ta'ke. Okay, fair, but what deity and why does he follow or take values from? Was it his own decision or was it a result of the services he was subjected to? What does religion even mean to him, when he preferred to skip it anyway? - Why and especially how and which "nobility" opressed a village in the Khazan mountains in the 2450s? The immediate political neighbours of the Khazan Mountains during the Second Revolution and your especially noted year 2459 was the People's Republic of Adhomai. The New Kingdom was a literal continent away. If you mean pre-second revolution this makes no sense because Tazan is 25 in 2459, he was not alive to see oppression from pre-first revolution. - Why did he remain in the armed forces after the revolution ended? He distinguished himself how? Where did he fight and what did he do in the army branch? You mention this in the "opinions on he factions summarized" very briefly but this is a very basic surface layer opinion at best. - These opinions make it sound like Tazan is quite political, radical one could say, towards the DPRA. How did this happen, you just mention he joins the army, he even volunteered, since it was the "right thing to do". Why? What does he think of the actual radical members of the DPRA? Like the members of the DPRA who allegedly bombed the New Kingdom's Government? - Since he remained in the armed forces post 2461 he also experienced the Cold War period. What did he do during this time? What are his thoughts about the outcome of the Revolution? This is just the things from the character background. I dont think you also grasp what makes playing a Tajara different from a human. It's more than just the fact they have a funny accent and talk in third person and look differently than humans. That's all quite obvious, but you don't go into depth with it. All in all I could continue - the tl;dr is that I do not believe you grasped tajaran lore on more than a really basic surface level and honestly do not believe you would play a good Tajara, Zhan or otherwise. I give a very sincere and firm -1 to this application. -

Head of Security begone: Long live the Chief of Security.
KingOfThePing replied to KingOfThePing's topic in Archive
Oh, right, I remember. I closed it because there was no consensus from the community, I was insanely busy at the time and I found Chief Security Officer the worst possible name to change it to. -

I closed the PR because the division in the community was too big and no compromise/agreeable solution could be found. -
Organ scarring is 99.9% irrelevant, what problems is this intending to solve?

I agree. It makes not much sense to always have to ask someone what his field of study is.

1 dismissal Alert level for ship artillery operation
KingOfThePing replied to Fluffy's topic in Archive
Honestly, an alarm that is specifically for ship-to-ship combat would not be too bad. Maybe Delta can be reused for that, since the nuke is not what it used to be. I dont agree with all points in the initial post/some stuff would have to be tweaked (like the broadcasted message) but it wouldnt be the worst maybe. -
If at all, then cyborgs will be removed from the ship, not the lore. I dont know a good reason yet but we will find one, dont worry.

These holes exist for verticality and to make maint not 2 tile wide death traps for antags and/or ISD.

Hey, sure I am just throwing ideas around. My main argument I wanted to make is that the Horizon wouldnt have retrofitted suits for this task. They would have sophisticated, expensive equipment, like the rest of xenorch and science.
-
I am not sure what colour would fit best, but I dont think either a reaserach station as the Aurora was nor the flagship exploration research vessel that the Horizon is would have retrofitted or quickly thrown together anomaly suits. They would have dedicated gear for exploration, excavation and study. To answer the colour question - the anomaly suit always reminded me about the SEVA suit from Stalker. I know this is about the EVA suits, not the anomaly ones, but it still applies. They come in a different variation of colour (the picture below was the best I could find with a few of them shown, ignore the black and Flecktarn one) and maybe you can replicate this. High visibility suits, together with the (dreadful) science purple. You can even give them different roles, so to say. White for expidition leader, green for security detail, and so on.
