Zombie Event Staff Complaint
SatinsPristOTD replied to SatinsPristOTD's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
KingOfThePing: second vote was 26 -17 I don't know where 28-11 comes from, but that's quite a different amount. 9vs17 is a MASSIVELY LARGE DIFFERENCE in the numbers you are putting out here, Yonni. -
Zombie Event Staff Complaint
SatinsPristOTD replied to SatinsPristOTD's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Because you were one of the admins HYPING up the next vote, whether you realize or not. I've stated who made the second vote. You're a part of this. -
BYOND Key: SatinsPrist666 Staff BYOND Key: Yonnimer, ReadThisNamePlease Cyname Game ID: b3W-dBkj zombie event round. VOTES HAPPENED THE ROUND BEFORE. Reason for complaint: (State your reason for your complaint) Well, Read and Yonni wanted to do a zombie event. They made a vote, and the answer to the vote was no. They then start saying in OOC how the mechanics have changed, and how people need to vote with the correct information. Essentially, it got hyped up in OOC. A new vote was made, and the answer was yes. The problem is, several people had stepped away to do other things while they waited for the round to end. People logged off. People logged on. The vote was swayed due to OOC hype. This felt like admins were making votes and talking until the vote result would be what they wanted it to be. It was a shoddy display at letting the community have a say so in whether an event occurred, and it's left a few people with a sour taste in their mouths towards the staff that were involved. Why let us vote if you're just going to vote sway and then revote again? Evidence/logs/etc: Additional remarks: Cyname was the one that did the re-vote.

There's two because one's a sucker machine and the other is a gumball machine It's still bad placement for them, however you go lol

I can't vouch for Schev's lore writing abilities. I've read it, and I think it's great, but it isn't up to me to decide if it fits and works. What I can tell you is I'd feel COMFORTABLE with going to Schev about IPC issues, verses others that have applied. They give off that sort of personality that, to me, is pretty approachable. I like how Schev works.

Make them different shades of purple, like the engineering and entertainment. OR, for.... sanity sake, make Entertainment purple and Service Yellow. This keeps the "groups of similar appearing words" away from one another in color. So instead of Engineering Entertainment Science Service It's Engineering Service Science Entertainment

Alberyk's Tajara Lore Writer Application
SatinsPristOTD replied to Alberyk's topic in Developer Applications Archives
This is.... honestly something I couldn't have said better. I came from a community where I saw some of the best staff just crash and burn after bogging down with all their tasks. And you are one of the greatest things we have in this community. There is no doubt in my mind that you wouldn't be able to be fantastic at this. I just don't want to see you burn the candle at both ends. I'm sure you've thought about this before applying. Just remember you have support. I support this application entirely. -
We should probably propose at this point. Have you seen their microwave fix? Christ I love whomever this person is. In all honesty, this is a FANTASTIC addition. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!

whole hardheartedly agree with this. As well as the ability to remove the safeties of a door. Why the absolute fuck does a regular AI have this ability? Give it to malf. Instead of Removing it, Fix it. 1)Try the Feed Disruption suggestion. (The thread for it's gotten some decent feed back!) 2)Remove the ability to shock doors 3)Remove the ability to remove safeties An even more.... harsh nerf would be to make the AI's Cameras work like the security cameras. You have to search through a list of cameras and view. No zipping around like a crack addict. We'd keep the ability to "jump" to a name in chat, but the AI's camera system could become fixed, not free ghost roam.

Purple Service i REGRET NOTHING

Ions should absolutely make rolling "static"-outs a thing. Make it hit an entire department. As for the AI not having the ability to open airlocks in case of emergencies, people will just have to resort to doing what they do when we don't have an AI on for the shift.
-
I have no actual "suggestions." I just wanted to say how much I appreciate this. I think it's FANTASTIC.
-
Geeve's "remove the AI at roundstart" thread got me thinking of ways to subtly nerf the AI's ability to gimmick shutdown via the Omnipotent cameras. As an AI player myself, I don't want to lose my AI, but I also recognize that it is incredibly easy to catch antags. While good AI's turn somewhat of a blind eye to antaggery, fact remains it's hard to not completely shutdown an antags "entrance" or "grand escape". So (and I'm not even sure if this is codable, but we'll see), I came up with the idea of Feed Distortion. It wouldn't actually be an antag-caused thing, but rather something that occurs NORMALLY. Cameras may go "static" for a brief moment in random areas. "Oh, the bar camera is out right now. It'll come back in a minute or so" would just be a common thought to AI's. The feed distortion wouldn't need engineering to come fix it. It doesn't need the camera to be replaced or fiddled with. It's just a brief moment (maybe a 5 minute window?) of static in that area. Now, this is where we implement the idea of a feed distorter. Antags can buy (or have it spawned on their respective shuttle) a device that is similar to a radio jammer. This device will take out cameras in a RADIUS, meaning you can shut down minings airlock cameras (and maybe mining itself) while still outside the facility and in "stealth". Traitors could do this from tunnels. It could even benefit lings and vampires if we put it in the warehouse spawners and tunnel spawners. Similar to the radio jammers and wormhole generators. If an antag keeps it on longer than the "normal" time how long a distortion lasts, that's on them. They take that risk when using for an extended period of time.
-
I think I'll move this to a suggestion thread and see if people like the idea.
-
Unless it works like a radio jammer and just knocks off any nearby cameras, even if you aren't in sight/can't see the distorter. So you could knock a radius of cameras out while in the tunnels.
-
Could we code in... and this sounds stupid, but it might work... "Feed distortion"? Cameras could become unreliable. They're cheaply made and quick as the devil to build. What if some areas just became static NATURALLY. It doesn't have to be overly done or extremely common, but the occurrence could be enough that any AI would just see it as "ahh, my camera's out for a minute or two". Then we give antags a "feed distorter" and it just plays off the AI's shitty camera system.

Referring to someones opinion, or at the very least referring to a relatively... tame discussion as a "metaclique" is... odd behavior. You're going to have people that agree with one side or the other, but that doesn't make it a metaclique. Not everything is black and white. If there are groups of people out there going "Look at this, go bust his balls over it" then it'll be a lot more obvious. They wouldn't take the time to have a proper discussion with you about something. Metacliques usually follow someone in, and just keep "bumping" or "promoting" that person. A discussion with people that doesn't agree with your stance is not a metaclique. That mindset doesn't particularly bode well for a lore maintainer. Also, there's the whole.... stance that religion isn't logical. I don't know your personal beliefs. I don't care to. I believe my religion is logical. There are quite a few scientific theories that have no proof, but come off as very plausible and have wide fan bases. Should an IPC not believe someones word in a discussion because they cannot SEE the proof? This is a rather odd... rabbit hole to fall down, and one I don't think you really want to go in. Religion is something you simply have to take at face value and the word of your teacher. Christianity has "proof" of Christ's works in the form of their historical book, and testimony's. Some religions don't even follow a God, but rather a chosen path of peace and balance. We could delve even further into what constitutes a religion entirely. I'd argue that the Golden Deep value money and wealth just as much as I value my Goddess. It's personal to them. Important. Needed. Cherished. Their life revolves around it and how to display it to the world. Sure the GD may have ULTERIOR motives, but what makes them unique is their.. worship of wealth. So.... I think the biggest question I have for you is 1)Will you continue to call opinions that go against yours a metaclique, and will you continue to place personal beliefs over logical lore?

1)Cool down/resetting it for *insert SM crystal lore that should exist but doesn't reason here* 2)Because each shift has different people, and they do things differently. The pull from Science might be greater in the morning if that's when NT schedules the mech engineers. 3)Aurora doesn't stop because we aren't there. Our "end of the day" is when next shift picks up, and you could easily RP that next shift doesn't involve us. That or clean up eats it. 4)No one uses the drink display. 5)Clean up places all the "random" shit back into the warehouse. 6)This point is a good one, but I'm for removing maint spawns that aren't basic tools and trash, TBH. 7)You could argue the point system is them "checking out" a suit, not buying it. Like a "Rent-A-Tool" situation. 8)Once studied and stored, they get moved to a secure warehouse. One that won't EMP a nearby doctor. 9)They break after the hard use. Hence why they're cheap and common. Furthermore, none of your points make the round LESS enjoyable. Setting the SM isn't tedious and takes me all of three minutes to do. Research is a fuck mothering nightmare and is just boring. Gouge my eyes out boring. The crowbar research point is FANTASTIC. Why are we levers? We've known about fulcrums for YEARS. LITERAL YEARS.
-
I am... confused. Why are we against whitelisting it, but content with removing it entirely? One allows the good AI's to continue being good AI's (and still lets MALF be a gamemode), the other just... shits all over those of us that play AI. Furthermore, the comment of "Well you can build one, why not start with it" is a VERY good point. We have countless AI's in our lore. Bubble, ALICE, SUNSHINE (to name a few). I don't know why a top notch research station that has robotics WOULDN'T have an AI. Aurora has a bad habit of removing RP for the sake of antags, and at the same time implementing "roleplay standards/mechanics" to "promote hRP." We need to find a balance and stop cherry picking the HRP tree.

Dragos Cyberpunk lore deputy application
SatinsPristOTD replied to Lady Fowl's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Well, now I have the great concern that you posted discord messages of someone you were "investigating in to" without their permission. None of this is what I want to see in any lore deputy, let alone a moderator for the server. The complaint, which I was vague about on purpose, was a private matter, and the things discussed between you and Jarvis were also a private matter. None of that needed to be posted on the forums. You could have easily addressed my concerns without bringing an unnamed individual into this and putting them on blast to anyone that reads this thread. -
Dragos Cyberpunk lore deputy application
SatinsPristOTD replied to Lady Fowl's topic in Developer Applications Archives
uh... please don't post the "evidence" about my IPC complaint on this as a way to "discredit" me. That doesn't need to be public, and it looks even worse on you for doing that. You were told, by him, that Clockwork is my character and that if you wanted any other information to speak to me about it. Given he cannot tell you anything regarding why Clockwork "doesn't fit the RP of an IPC." A player shouldn't have to tell you multiple times to speak to someone about their own character. -
Dragos Cyberpunk lore deputy application
SatinsPristOTD replied to Lady Fowl's topic in Developer Applications Archives
So I debated on bringing this up, but I think I will because your ability to handle a lore/complaint properly factors in to it. You were deputy over Synthetic lore, and were handed an issue regarding my IPC. (knowing full well we have some deep wounds that just won't heal). You contacted a different player and asked THEM to explain my character to you. When they told you to contact me about my character, you continued to question that player about MY character until I got Kyres to remove you from the situation entirely. So I have to wonder if you're going to actively handle problems properly as a deputy for this. Going to other players and asking them to explain the concept of x's character (that the complaint is about) and continuing to do it after being told x would know best is-- rude? It's harassing other players for information they don't have. If it's because you couldn't come directly to me about the complaint, then why even take the complaint in the first place? Do you have the ability to be unbiased? Because, as someone who has pointed out lies in your ahelps (and pointed them out to other moderators), I'm not quite sure you can be unbiased towards people who have a (rightful) reason to be displeased with you. -
This is a good topic to bring up, actually. We have a lot of synth lore that is just-- ignored entirely. Sunshine hasn't made an appearance since she was first wrote, and the Golden Deep is vastly under-rated, to the extent it's difficult to play my Golden Deep IPC. Will unused and abandoned synth lore be dusted off, or removed/reworked?

We have a lot of blue already on station. Blue Sec, Blue Command, Atmos techs are teal. Medbay being green gives it a breath of life. That isn't to say we have to stick to THAT shade of green, however, Green is as broad as yellow and as deep as blue.
