[Denied] Simfantic's IPC Application
SatinsPristOTD replied to simfantic's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I like that response. As of right now, our IPC's seem to favor the "nicer" side of things, or what I like to refer to as the "German Workforce" approach. I don't think that needs to be explained ll One that's a bit sarcastic and cynical might be a breath of fresh air if done properly. It gives them a chance to develop. +1 based on the application. I don't really know Simfantic OOCly, so bear that in mind with my plus, however I'd be willing to see this in action. Have you seen the upcoming IPC rework? I'm assuming DEU is a baseline, so it might not effect them much. -
[RETRACTED] Satins CCIA Application
SatinsPristOTD replied to SatinsPristOTD's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
1) I forgot to mention this in my app but, CCIA also does audits, ensures directives are being followed, and they maintain company performance ON server. Off server? I'm not 100% sure I understand the question. Answering questions about regulations and forum work is all I know. It's not exactly wrote down anywhere, so I can't be certain. I'd have to learn, which I'm open to. 2)I think a prime example of this is Rev rounds. CCIA has to go along with gimmicks when it comes to answering faxes... but I think that needs to be done within reason. If the Rev gimmick of "All women get back to the Kitchen." comes up again... well.. that's not exactly the sort of memery I'd expect to see on a hRP server. Sounds like something that should be taken to admins. We had one a few months ago where it was a visitor that claimed to not be on the manifest due to a glitch, and that their records were still in transit. Naturally, a company would know better and keep better records, but it helps the gimmick if CCIA goes along with it and answers the fax with a confirmation to the visitors story. Same thing can be said for "Can you confirm this CentComm message is true?". Why question our messenger system. You don't even have to address the message. Simply fire back that the CCMS is stable. 3)Quite a bit. Hypatia's CCIA did not have "open complaints" the way Aurora has them. There wasn't a forum system. There wasn't an automated system to state the case was being opened. Interviews weren't really as a "sit-down" approach. Usually, CCIA on Hypatia ran more like a detective than a paper-pusher. Hypatia's CCIA was a literal extension of admin power to IC. Players didn't make the complaints. CCIA saw fuckery ICly as their characters (or while ghosting, or through ahelps) and handled it that way. CCIA made SoP enforceable by law. (Similar to CCIA notices, but SoP was a lot more strict.) It wasn't a good system. A "complaint section" was added at a much later time, but I was leaving and Hypatia didn't last much long after that. I doubt it saw any sort of action. I can't speak highly of it, and I was the person who ran it. So that should really say something. It hit a lot of resistance with the community, since Hypatia was always extended. No one wanted to give up their eRP, but they didn't want to be dealt with by their boss for neglecting duty every shift they worked. Aurora seems a lot more open to IA and that's refreshing. CCIA is smoother and has found focus in the right area: putting some of the power in the hands of the players. -
[Denied] Simfantic's IPC Application
SatinsPristOTD replied to simfantic's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Then why not play DEU as a robot or a cyborg? IPC's are robotic, sure, but they still have a bit of personality behind them. Playing an IPC just to be "as robotic as possible" kinda feels like a way around cyborgs not having hands. Can you go into more depth about DEU's personality and future goals? Being owned doesn't mean it doesn't have plans for it's own life. -
+1 I don't know much about the player OOCly, but I can confirm they do some pretty decent RP and they hold a Command position well. I've placed Braun as my Interim a few times and I've never really been disappointed. The player can lead a department, and help push the rounds narrative. You should ghost some time and just watch him RP Braun when Braun gets injured. It's some pretty legit stuff.

[1 dismissal] Let xenos species and synths speak SOL.
SatinsPristOTD replied to Yonnimer's topic in Archive
Languages don't work that way, however. It gives you "identity" in a loose sense of the term, but SHARING your language doesn't take away the identity it gives you. Really, what sets everyone apart is accents. The dialect a region uses and the phrases we use daily. I'm from Alabama. I confuse my Floridian friend all the time when I use "southern slang". This is true for many regions of the world. It's safe to say Solarian is going through the same thing. I'm sure Martians have slang that those living on Luna just shake their head at in confusion. Yes, the words can be understood, but do they mean anything to you? Solarians don't get their identity from their language: They get it from their culture as a whole. Sharing bits and pieces of your culture doesn't make you any less special. Unless speaking Solarian somehow makes you develop the Solarian accent, understand the Solarian culture, start eating Solarian foods and forces you to move to Luna..... All the languages are foreign. ALL of them. Basic (and yes, I'm fully aware it has it's own alphabet and grammar) still probably carries hints of Sol in it, due to the fact that Ceti itself is so close to Sol and was under Sol's thumb for quite a while. It kinda feels like the English of the future. I don't mean it sounds like English, but more that it's a melting pot that robs languages of words and phrases, jumbles them up in it's own alphabet, and spits it back out in such a "familiar" way that people can easily pick up on it. It'd explain why so many aliens can pick up Basic (even if their grasp of it is well.. basic!) Also: Saying "Well it gives the Solarians identity" still doesn't explain why Solarian IPC's can't speak Sol. What I'm trying to get across is: Having a "special language" isn't what sets the characters apart. It isn't what gives Solarians their "identity". Sharing the language doesn't, in any way, rip something from Sol. Letting some filthy cat Tajaran slurr out Sol and butcher it isn't going to rob my character of her identity. -
[Accepted] Goret's Moderator Application

Goret's handled a few of my tickets now and I'd just like to say--I really like this person on the mod team. They're funny, they know the game well. Goret knows how to lighten a mood. Hope this trial makes it. -
[RETRACTED] Satins CCIA Application
SatinsPristOTD posted a topic in Moderator Applications Archives
CCIA Staff Application Basic Information Byond key: SatinsPrist666 Character names: Calanthia Demos, Tatyanna Atkinson, Asclepius, Stella Carr, Zune Carmichael, Scarlett Moore Age: 27 Timezone: CST What times are you most available?: 8am-9pmCST Experience How long have you played SS13?: Since 2012, on and off. How long have you played on Aurora?: A little more than a year now How active on the forums, discord and/or server are you? I check forums daily. Discord daily and I play daily. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: Never been banned. Have you ever volunteered as moderation staff for any other servers, SS13 or otherwise?: I was a host for a server, a Game Master for Hypatia, leader of Hypatia's CCIA, and a brief stint as Moderator on Aurora. Do you have any other experience that you believe would be relevant to a position in the CCIA?: Well.... I'm not quite sure I'd count Hypatia's CCIA as experience for this. While yes, both of them did (or do?) basically the same thing, Hypatia's CCIA was a lot more cringy. IR's were filed and handled. CentComm messages were made. Faxes were responded to, but all in Hypatia's typical--err-- fashion. So theoretically? Yes, I have experience in this sort of thing, just from a different server... a much more dramatic server. (Which, I openly admit that at the time, I played a huge part in keeping that theme going. People grow up. I've gotten older.) Personality Why do you want to join the CCIA?: The concept, or rather goal, behind CCIA has always been a baby of mine. Hypatia's was ripped from the hands of someone who was abusing the idea for their power-gaming, one off CC character, and built into a checks and balance system (that didn't really work well in Hypatia's community.). The idea was to enforce role-play, and to try and curve out unsavory PLAYER actions ICly instead of OOCly. It felt a bit silly to constantly hand out OOC punishments for things that SHOULD have been handled in character by a HR department (or an IA department.). I'd like to still help contribute to that thinking. Yes, some actions do demand admin intervention, but for the most part... handling things in character is what a hRP server should be reaching for. I've been tossing this application around in my mind for a bit, wondering if I really want to try and re-enter the IA aspect of the game. CCIA seems like it may need a bit of help with the onslaught of new players, and I'd like to help shape the community. It isn't about handing out punishments and being some kind of white-knight justice system. It's about bridging the gap between RP styles and subtly nudging characters/players on the right track. What do you think are the most important qualities for a CCIA Agent to possess?: Professionalism (amusing coming from me), and a sort of charismatic nature. CCIA has always felt like the Men in Black. People fear them. (Characters. I hope players aren't out there fearing 2d spacemen...). An agent should be open to hearing someones side of the story, even if it (at first) sounds a bit crazy. You get more flies with honey, not vinegar. What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is in an ongoing round?: Answer the faxes! and do so in a way that gives ANTAGS breathing room while still making Command happy. That's a very tricky balance and an art that can only be perfected with practice. Don't be too vague in the response either. Command shouldn't be berated for acting as they deem fit towards a rather vague "aloof" fax. There's people behind those characters. Mistakes are made. What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is outside of the server?: Help streamline the complaint section of the forums. If you take an IR, get in contact with the players. OOCly, ICly, whatever you choose, but let them know it's about to be handled. How do you handle stress?: Fairly well. 7/10 at least. How well do you work autonomously?: I work best when gave a little freedom, actually. Additional Notes: -
Unless this has happened multiple times, this occurred under my CMO status (Whether Asclepius or Cala, I can't remember,) While I do remember bitching about it to a Skrell, (because that's just how my CMOs are) it was an IC issue and it was something my CMO allowed. I don't see how this should come into play with their Command application when the CMO that allowed it was willing to witness how they work. Soul isn't a bad command member. Have they done a few questionable calls? Yeah... but Every command player has done so. We're human. We make mistakes. I've mentioned to Soul the things I, personally, thought was a mistake and he has always been willing to hear me out and, most of the time, see the error in his call. Command is a learning process. We're not all born to do it properly. I've been playing ss13 Command for literal years and I still fuck up.

We play 2 hour rounds, theoretically. If I get attacked by bats in the warehouse (which is pretty common as my cargo tech), half my round is sitting in medbay with doctors like *REDACTED*, who wouldn't even give a TRAUMA patient the time of day, let alone my "recovering" character in the secluded sublevel. It'd de-evolve into sitting alone in the sublevel while Medical attempts to catch up to the steady flow of antag related injuries. That's probably the biggest problem: Medical can't sit there and do a lot of heavy RP because we're the only people keeping you alive after the malf-AI blows half the station up, or when the ninja saws off your foot. Hell, half of us have to do macros just to get in surgery actions/IV use/shots. And, theoretically, you wouldn't just be roaming around medical as a "healing" patient. You'd be in your sub-acute room, laying down, resting. There's--no RP you can do, realistically, and that's the point of this change: Realism.

[Accepted] MissNatcula's Command Application
SatinsPristOTD replied to MissNatcula's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
+1 I don't even look at many applications, but this one gets my Plus. Why? The character ICly is up for the promotion. I know some about Lin to realize she's ready for it, and it's a REALLY good fit for HoS. The PLAYER is a great RPer and someone I'd like to see in Command. -
I've had several of my ahelps answered and dealt with by Para. They're were all positive experiences and I felt like they did the job right. Para has toned down a lot since I got here (which compared to some of the old coots above me isn't much, but it's been a years worth!). I... would love to see Para be a full mod.

Reporting Personnel: Scarlett Moore Job Title of Reporting Personnel: Captain Game ID: bZZ-bK1G Personnel Involved: (Name, Job Title: Offender/Witness/Other) - Scarlett Moore, Captain: Reporting Offended -James Warren, Head of Security: Witness -Marlowe Caldwell, Warden: Offender _Chloe Welsh, EMT: Witness Time of Incident: (If unable to provide, leave blank) Morning Shift Real Time: around 9:30CST, 4/28/2019 Location of Incident: Head of Security Office Nature of Incident: [ ] - Workplace Hazard [ ] - Accident/Injury [ ] - Destruction of Property [ ] - Neglect of Duty [ ] - Harassment [ x] - Assault [ ] - Misconduct [ ] - Other _____ (Place an x in the box that applies. If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: With little time left in our shift, Commander Warren asked over Command for a demotion of their warden because the Warden had called him an "asshole" during a private meeting. (I am unaware of the meeting in question.). I arrived at the Head of Security office with a filled out Demotion form and got Caldwells ID to demote it in the Head of Personnel office. Once I returned to the Head of Security office, I laid the ID down on the desk and took a step back to the door. Note that during the altercation, Mr. Caldwell was acting rather rude and hostile to Mr. Warren, to the extent that he walked to the side of the desk Mr. Warren was at and made Mr. Warren feel uncomfortable with how close he was. Caldwell then moved back towards me, raised his maglight, and... beat my face in with the maglight screaming "FUCK YOU, YOU BITCH!". I received multiple wounds to the head and I may require facial reconstruction surgery. The swelling is still going down. Mr. Warren got between Mr. Caldwell and I, and tazed him, effectively getting him off me. I then received medical treatment to the best of the EMTs ability. (Medical had already left on the shuttle and Chloe stayed behind to help me with my wounds.) I do not think Mr. Caldwells actions were appropriate for a crew member of the Aurora. Perhaps I am not use to how things run here, but on Upsilon I never got beat in the face. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: The Commander was there to witness the situation. Actions taken: The shuttle was on it's way (and we missed it due to the incident), so I am unsure if Mr. Warren got to properly handle the situation due to the time crunch, but he was in the process of being handed a mark for Assault of a Head of Staff. Then I feel like this should be a complaint about that moderator, since this probably is the "straw that broke the camels" back, so to speak. I play a lot of command, and I play a lot of IPCs. There is a lot of subtle (and not so subtle) racism/species-ism/sexism that goes on. Just because you, yourself, aren't hit with it doesn't mean it's not in full force. Furthermore, "enforcing" racism/species-ism/sexism is a really... questionable slope to peer down. It's wrote in the lore. People are choosing to make characters that defy all odds. There isn't a server rule that says they can't, and the characters certainly aren't "unbelievable." Simply put, you can't force people to RP this kind of stuff. You'll kill the whitelists. There's a few that like it (VT and you being some of them), but if your to be believed that this is a problem, the majority rules in favor that they don't want this sort of RP tainting what could be the only few hours of "break time" they get a day. It's a game. RP believably, but it's a game.

So you're laying down at the holobeach, minding your own business and then someone just walks up and somehow manages to "shake" you awake. I propose a rework of this mechanic. Perhaps if you are the one that put yourself in rest, you can only be removed from it if you unrest or if someone grabs you on yellow intent. "Shaking" a person awake would give a prompt asking if you want to be moved from a resting position. I'm looking for suggestions on how exactly to rework this. The "shake that guy! he's laying down" meme is old. We got rid of hugging. Moving towards heavier RP mechanics might not be a bad idea.

[Denied] Dark1Star IPC Application
SatinsPristOTD replied to Dark1Star's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Was he a robot before he was an IPC? Modern IPCs as we know them didn't show up till around 2440, and the Skrell leak that created positronics happened 2437. You have his creation set at 2433. -
We actually did have the issue of "no warden, No HoS" when I was Captain. It meant the Captain of all damn people had to process criminals. It was really.... shit. The biggest concern I have with this is the test merges were meant not only to test the map/code, but see how well it fit with the gameplay of Aurora. The execution of the new offices and Brig are so poorly done, that this right out of the gate has a bad taste in everyone's mouth. I'm really hoping the feedback here is taken into consideration and this whole concept gets a second chance.

Hi, HoP player here as well: So the HoP would have Supply, Service and IAA under it's wing? As it stands, the HoP is the Captains secretary when shit hits the fan too. That's... quite a lot for one job to have, considering Service is THE area where most new people/ greytide go to. -1

BYOND Key: KingWolfwind Character name: Gabriel Autumnmour Item name: Dominian Priest Jacket Why is your character carrying said item to work? Item function(s): The Dominian priests are supposedly wearing white, yet there isn't really any clothing that gives them this option. A white dominian coat would help Dominian priests fit their descriptions better. Item description: This is a great coat in the style of Dominia Priests. Our gift is the Divine, theirs the mundane! Item appearance: Literally the Dominian nobility coat, just sprited white. How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? As stated, the priests should be in white. It helps with his entire Chaplain RP. Additional comments: ((I have put this custom in for KingWolfwind. He's my husband and flat out refuses to make a forum account. You can contact me for information about it.))

Cooking/Hydroponics Reform - The Death of Black Boxes and Generic Reagents
SatinsPristOTD replied to Kaed's topic in Archive
Nothing mentioned here is really... that difficult. Ya'll are talking about it like he's suggested piping out a new distro loop to churn butter. Adding a few extra steps (and making sure the wiki is up to date) really wouldn't hinder teaching. If anything, it'll shove new players into the hRP mind-set more. I like it. -
+1, Thea is wonderfully roleplayed. Don't see a problem with the player having a command WL. HOP IS the HR department. It's not just about business administration. There's a lot of people skills and working with disgruntled employees. Honestly, Thea could pick up an OAD class and an econ class and be pretty okay in that job.

[Accepted] IPC application by veradox
SatinsPristOTD replied to veradox's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
+1!!! I like that his name is J-4, and your picture is Jhin. ? Vera's RP is some of the better stuff on server, so I don't an issue with them properly RPing an IPC. I kinda wish your first IPC wasn't an almost strictly antagonist character. Medbay has it's share of IPCs, and most of us are rather blunt, cold and nonchalant. You'll have several medical IPCs to start your own master race robo team ??? -
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/29/206 To use a first world country's own labor code. No company would be caught actually paying people less based on their gender. Women tend to work part-time, which means they get less hours, and thus, less work... and thus less pay. Men also typically pull over-time more than women, because women pick family over career *usually*. So unless you want to start a whole system about part-time jobs/full-time positions on the Aurora and get childcare into lore... (because fuck, we need that realism, right?)
