  1. Unethical experiments are impossible to get a crewmember for, I doubt that anyone would like to volunteer to get their limbs gibbed. And monkeys can't get a gibbed hand. Also, you can't put monkeys in a body scanner, which is pretty much the main advantage of protohumans.
  2. I don't seem to encounter the problems with moderation that you speak of.
  3. I don't know, I'm playing a hateful xenophobic etc etc character and it's pretty fun for me. It's also fun for me when people looc "oh no" upon seeing my character, or tell me they're scared of my character. Or tell me their fantasies of murdering my character in a horrible way. Or, say, tell me that their interactions with my character only remind them of why they don't like going on the relay, OOCly. I've experienced all of these things, and it's not a bad thing, really. It's something I've built my entire character around, and something I've completely embraced as I fleshed him out more and more. It's the playstyle I have chosen, and a character I have created. However, as someone who plays this kind of character, I understand that it may be not enjoyable for everyone - for both the player themselves and for other players. Things you do may actively make others' experience less fun. You may shut down potentially fun interactions with them, you may deny them the tools they need to do their job (I'm saying this mostly as a Research main). From just fueling the fires ICly, you may shift into making someone's experience OOCly infuriating; and being standoffish and dismissive ICly may cause you to miss out on roleplay and get bored (you say "fuck off" and they actually fuck off for 2 hours instead of having a conversation with you). This are some more reasons why people don't play assholes much, I feel - people are interested in others' characters and interacting with them, and people don't really want to go out of their way to be rude to other people. I don't feel there needs to be more enforcement of racism than there is now.
  4. That isn't entirely correct. There is a deep difference, which you can find in the Biology section of the page, which I suggest you familiarize yourself with, and put a summary of the difference in emotional expression up in your app (in the "what's different in roleplay" section). Yet Skrell are an alien race. Not to mention, the scientific method doesn't necessarily mean questioning established history and moral values. I suggest you re-write your application to have a non-Federation Skrell instead. You may choose to retract this one or to edit it.
  5. To phrase the question more bluntly: what is the difference between a human emoting and a Skrell emoting? But with our Earthen nationalities, we know that we're all just people. Synthetics are a technology, and they're completely unlike an organism to the very core. Not to mention, Blorp may have seen entire dead cities emptied - not by a fellow Skrell, or something organic, but by a machine - a machine that made itself able to enslave an entire race with little warning, almost out of the blue. Thus, all sentient machines must be hated and feared, and this is something constantly taught in Jargon, a civilization where information censorship and media brainwashing are possibly the most invasive in the galaxy - whereas we, on Earth, are encouraged to voice our opinions, and are free to expose ourselves to whatever information we want, instead of government-sanctioned recommended media made by Idols. Why hasn't he been affected by this constant influence? If you want to create a Skrell that comes to terms with synths and learns to tolerate or even embrace them, why make a Jargon character if you can make a Skrell who is born in human space (something I sadly never see in whitelist apps)?
  6. My question is: what would these signs be? How do you imagine a Skrell expressing themselves? Why is it only a slight bias? They're from the Jargon Federation - not only that, but also from Querrbalak, where there are entire tomb cities dedicated to preserving the memory of those who fell victim to Glorsh's terrible reign. Young Skrell are, most probably, taught that synthetic intelligences are nothing but a great evil. How come that Blorp only feels wary, and not terrified and/or disgusted?
  7. Hello! I will be handling this application. Just for your information, Skrell aren't harmed by protein on this server, and can eat meats as well, but without gaining nutrition. They simply prefer soft, plant-based foods. In the meanwhile, I would like to hear your answers to the following questions: Your character is very eager and enthusiastic after a dark time in his life. How do you feel you would express this in roleplay? Which mannerisms would show that? What are his views on other races? Is there a reason in particular for him to choose a multicultural, but mostly human-dominated workplace?
  8. Why can't we pretend that an automatized, digital report is sent from the stacking machine to Central? Surely it wouldn't be hard to come up with such a system when goddamned AIs exist? It's just a counter of mass and amount of sheets, no difficult computing here. And it sure is better than having cargo techies slowly count it and writing it out in paper.
  9. Pretty much everything is addressed, although I still firmly insist on at least a deputy position being opened for Dionaea.
  10. Just recently we had a massive project that involved virtually everyone in the lore team, the offworlders. Almost everyone contributed, no matter what race they are technically attached to. You basically provided zero input besides playing a minor volunteer role in an event, despite being a main species maintainer. Same with a lot of projects, actually - a lot of loredevs work on a lot of things that are not just related to their race, and don't technically "involve them". Exactly, you are a volunteer. Nobody forces you to be here, yet there is a limited amount of loredev slots. If the server causes you anxiety, you disagree with where it is going, and you would prefer playing somewhere else, why are you still occupying your position? Why haven't you even opened deputy slots? That's the main point I am making in this complaint; everything else is secondary. That is completely not what I'm talking about. The thing is, the input you have chosen to provide in weeks is not even critique, it's just "Unathi aren't good anymore" which was only tangentially related to the topic at hand at the time. If you actually had productive input at other times, that would be fine. Suddenly popping up out of nowhere with it isn't. By the way, you're the one who made it personal. If only you actually ever said or critiqued something. Our interactions pretty much end with the end of that server, and a thing you pinged me with recently when I was talking about skrell lore. Which I didn't take any offense to despite it being a mild criticism of my work. I will let Paradox speak about other screenshots if he so wishes. Now as to the cheeky announcement, a PR involving Dionaea that was made recently, and what Jackboot told me. While I am somewhat glad that the complaint actually got you to do something, I fear that this minor boost of activity will end, and you will be absolutely inactive again. You've been inactive since my tenure in staff began, which is I think about four-five months ago. I just can't see you picking up a new pace so suddenly. And I also seriously don't see why you can't be a deputy instead of a main species maintainer if you truly enjoy working on lore so much, which I have my reasons to doubt. This complaint was not made to demean you or to say that you're a bad person; simply to point out that you are inactive and seemingly prefer playing another server. Considering the race that you are supposed to maintain is basically dying, something needs to be done about it. I will refrain from further replies until someone chooses to handle this complaint.
  11. BYOND Key: VTCobaltblood Staff BYOND Key: Neinbox Reason for complaint: I don't know what to put here. Evidence/logs/etc: Dionaea are the least played race. Actually, they were the least played race. Now that three Dionaea mains that I've known (BurgerBB, EngineersDream and LordPwner) are gone from the server, they're a completely unplayed race. Here are race stats from the last two weeks that confirm this. One. A diona has been played one time over the last two weeks. It's pretty much safe to say that except these three people, nobody played them. A factor that I feel contributes to this very strongly is that their lore is bland and pretty much dead. They are not involved with other species except Skrell. There is not much you can write about them, since they are "mysterious alien observers". They have little to no reasons to work a 9 to 5 on a huge research station. Frankly, I'm all for removing them (since people seem to not like antag Dionaea, and therefore it's probably not wise to make them an antag race). But this is a complaint about Neinbox and not a suggestion to remove Dionaea. Neinbox is about as rare as a Phazon on the lore writers chat. Here is the amount of posts on the staff server from Nein over this month. For comparison, here are the amounts of posts from lore developers which I consider the most active. Over the same month. Here is, say, amount of posts from Jam, who also posts pretty rarely. Unlike Neinbox, however, Jam can be seen in-game pretty often, and when talked to, they talk about lore with quite some enthusiasm. What about Nein? Nein moved to Citadel and isn't shy about that fact there. Screenshots courtesy of Paradox. Nor does he cover up the fact that he cannot work with other lore staff, and even has the server muted. Or that he immensely dislikes current lore. Here is a fun encounter that I remember. There was an ongoing discussion in #lore_writers where a bunch of lore people discussed species blurbs. Neinbox pops up to provide valuable input on... how much he hates Aut'akh, and how Unathi as a whole are now just reskinned humans. There could be also some more concerning stuff here, but that server has since been deleted, and I have no screenshots. Perhaps Nein will talk about it. I have approached Jackboot with Neinbox's inactivity before. He told me that Neinbox is involved in some very secret work with Bygone. Now that a few months have passed, I have issues with this. We are a lore team, and the idea of keeping things secret is actually just a little bit terrible. Particularly when a person does nothing but secret work, and is a main maintainer of a species that has no deputies. I don't think this person should be a species maintainer. A deputy, maybe. But Dionaea are in a very very pitiful state right now, and we need someone to actually work on correcting that fact before involving themselves in secret arcs.
  12. Oh gosh, this is terribly overdue and I'm sorry. The only gripe that I have is that the suffix in your name is separated by a space instead of an apostrophe or hyphen (Ziiq'Luu Xrim or Ziiq-Luu Xrim). All in all, your responses to my questions are adequate, and I don't really have problems accepting this. Archiving.
  13. You named your character slightly incorrectly. Skrell do not have a dash or an apostrophe between their names; their two names are written like a first name and a last name, i.e. separated by a space. In your case, it would be Ziiq Xrim. Same goes for parents. The dashes and apostrophes are for suffixes, which written after one of the names (first one or second one), e.g. Ziiq'Luu Xrim. I would like to know more about the following: Ziiq was born between the Supernova and the Radiant eras. How did this affect her values and her character? How did her Abyssal era-born parents bring her up? What made Ziiq leave her promising career so suddenly? Why would she abandon a prestigious job at her homeworld to work at a human-dominated megacorporation? What does she think about the races that she studied, besides simply wanting to know what makes them tick? What attitude does she adopt toward them?
  14. This is fantastic and inspiring, and honestly, I think a lot more planets need to be described in this manner. Looking forward to see this added to the wiki.
  15. Just make rigs properly hackable already ffs
  16. Hello! I am very happy to announce that I am opening a third Skrell deputy slot. Your application must include an essay on one of the following topics: Skrell's place in living lore and galactic politics Skrell culture Skrell psionics Skrell history The essay must outline or contain an addition to or a rework of the chosen aspect of Skrell lore. There is no upper or lower limit on how much you need to write, but the longer the better. Although it's not a requirement, you'll make my life way easier if the essay is hosted on Google Docs. The application also should include your activity times in the GMT timezone. This will affect my decision very heavily, and I'm unlikely to accept someone who is not active in my timezone (GMT +3). Good luck!
  17. And toxins. And security. And robotics.
  18. That is significantly worse than the original. Dude, do you even shade?
  19. I don't like these, but I will come up with something in an hour or a few.
  20. Can this be made available in the primary storage, i.e. the one everyone has access to?
  21. Okay. I hope the CCIA leader talks to you about it.
  22. Okay, I accept the explanation for your inactivity. Though I would like to notice that CCIA is not limited by the amount of slots, and if you're going to be inactive, you can resign and re-apply later. Especially for a time like four months. Everything else that you said, however, is only slightly relevant, and I have no reason to believe that you still care about the server, or your position. This is not about you wronging Paradox or me, and I can't care less for you blocking me, nor blocking you myself. This is about your overall attitude to other server staff and the server itself. Maybe you have applied while still caring about the server. However, people can change and burn out over time, especially with being put on a blast. If you take no enjoyment in doing it, you can quit. It's a volunteer position, nobody is forcing you to be here.
