  1. They can be bypassed, and by default are bypassed, so it's not actively a problem unless someone gets ahead of themselves and tries to muck around with them without knowing how. But I think that they don't really add anything, either. From a purely simulationist perspective, they make tremendous sense - they create a pool of 'sub-reservoirs' that can be filled up and can provide power to local sub-grids in case of a failure in the main grid. But tampering with the power system is under some pretty heavy restrictions, and there are relatively few good ways to damage the supply of power (which is, IIRC, permitted) without damaging the source of power, ie causing delamination or meltdowns (which is forbidden because it's a TPK.) In actual fact, I think the best legal way for an antag to cripple the station would be to blow up the main SMES, but that would be almost impossible to do - it would probably be possible to identify and repair a breach in the main power cables before too many APCs ran out. Without the threat of actual damage to the main grid, and with the actual APCs able to carry so much charge, substation SMESs are just an idle diversion. If we reduced the amount of juice in each APC, then they might become more useful, but APCs have enough juice in them as it stands that it's just another layer on a system that's already redundant enough to foil antagonists. At some point in the near future, though, I'd like to experiment with cutting power as a traitor without damaging the SMES. They do add something very very useful as a mechanic - An additional charged SMES buffer if the main power goes out.
  2. There's also this that I put together some time ago that summarizes the contents of the two employment/promotion tables: http://bts.sierrabrown.me/ranks.xlsm
  3. Since dallowallo says he'll be putting up a new thread, I'm going to go ahead and archive this one.
  4. Some lockers you can hide in, some you can't. I haven't bothered seeing which are which.
  5. As an antag in round, you can be a sydicate, or syndicate sympathizer as part f your gimmick for that round. It's not mandatory to go that route though, fully up to you; That subforum is mostly to give people some things to try doing/potential 'objectives' when antagging.
  6. The main concern people had with getting into the /captains office/ from space can easily be rectified as well. Just because the command section is connected to space doesn't mean every room in the command section has to be. The teleporter, HOP office, and command break room were more inward and didn't have walls facing space on the old map, for example.
  7. Now posting as a player, as I was the AI for this round... Finding out you two were /not/ antags is actually a surprise to me, because you two were the most antag like people on the station that round up until the random suicide bombing of security. Just a quick list of everything I remember. I can't remember exact characters names, so I'll just call you Junior for the grandson and Senior for the grandfather. This isn't necessarily in order, I'm posting these as I remember them: - Junior and Senior are in the psych's office. - Junior cracks Senior over the head with a bottle and knocks him out - Senior gets up and starts beating the shit out of Junior with a cane - Junior says things over comms that sound like some sort of BDSM cane-whipping fetish - Junior shows up in the dorms with a sword, attacking a station-bound synthetic - Junior and Senior both show up in the brig, stealing all of the armory weapons - Senior pulls a gun on a random botanist in the hallway and uses him as a 'hostage', even shooting him once - Junior and Senior run down the departures hallway, /murdering/ a security officer the moment they see her during the evacuation Care to explain why you did these things if you weren't antags?
  8. Both complaints involve the same incident and players, and are directed toward the same staff member. Threads merged after confirming with Garnascus.
  9. Using a trauma/burn kit on a wound /will/ eventually bring that limb's brute/burn damage to 0, it just takes some time. Goes faster if the patient is asleep. Any EMT worth their salt will have already used burn/trauma kits on all limbs that needed them /before/ moving the patient, so by the time the patient's brought in, scanned, and placed on surgery, the damage is healed.
  10. Thought there was something about being able to execute if Central Command gives the go ahead, but okay. It's along the lines of if CC authorizes/orders it, it's CC that's willing to bite the bullet for it.
  11. Reporting Personnel: Ariana Eshlian (SierraKomodo) Rank of Reporting Personnel: Nurse. Also employed as Forensics Technician. Personnel Involved: - Edmond Holloway (Bedshaped) - Security Officer, offender - Gale Russell (Chada1) - Security Cadet, witness - Henry Fisher (Nethros) - Security Officer, witness - Sarad Amrapurkar (ChevalierMalFet) - Chief Engineer, witness - Alexis Sutton (Whiterabit) - Detective, witness Time of Incident: (If unable to provide, leave blank) Real time: (E.g 0500GMT 24/11/15) Location of Incident: Central primary hallway, fore starboard section, just outside the starboard bridge entrance. Nature of Incident: []Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property [X]Neglect of Duty [X]Harassment [X]Assault [X]Misconduct []Other _____ (Place an x in the box that applies. If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: Someone who I believe stole or was making use of a hand teleporter was in the bridge, with the Chief Engineer, talking. Security personnel were crowded in the hallway, watching through the window, when I was walking by to get to medbay. I stopped, asked what the gathering was about, and watched the scene for a moment out of curiousity. I was vaguely informed this person was some kind of religious visitor that the chief engineer supported. A moment later, this visitor startled me by teleporting into the hallway next to me. One of the security officers, Holloway, taped off part of the hallway but didn't say anything else. While security and the chief engineer continued to discuss with this visitor, I pardoned myself to head to medbay. In the process, I had to step passed the tape Holloway had set. The next thing I knew, I was shot with a taser and left in excruciating pain as I tried to call out and ask what had just happened. I was wordlessly handcuffed, then told that I broke the law by stepping past the tape. Other officers, and the Chief Engineer, came shortly after the taser fire. After a discussion among the officers, where one tried to say I was breaking into the bridge (I'm not sure which one), they were ordered to release me. I'd already managed to work the cuffs off my wrists and give them to the detective at that time. Holloway later told me this, over the radio: "I have threat myopia, it's a serious condition and I'd rather you not make fun of me." I don't think someone that has a mental disability like that is fit for a security role, especially when it results in him violating regulation by shooting a crewmember on code green without so much as a warning. If I had a heart condition like some members of this crew, that could have gone from a simple violation of regulation to manslaughter. Did you report it to a Head of Staff or IAA? If so, who?: The Chief Engineer was the only head of staff and was a witness Additional notes: OOC note: Skull cleared this for posting as an IR, despite the slight involvement with an antag.
  12. Well it matters to me personally, it's a niggling annoyance when playing a doctor it should also be fairly trivial to implement, so i don't see triviality as an argument against it If past experience is anything to learn by, what you consider trivial turns into a month of fixing everything because the one string that used to say 'Brute' was tied into a bunch of stuff and everything broke when it was changed to 'Trauma'.
  13. I'm ready for ERP. I release my Dwayne Johnson.
  14. To be fair, that one round with the mice was more the 5 or 6 ghosts that kept spawning as mice, emoting screams, and scurrying about.
  15. I tend to call it 'brute force trauma'
  16. Old thread is old, and I don't think there was any discussion here about making lawyers a job on the station
  17. Regarding resetting the server.. The only person who can do that (Skull) isn't up. We're stuck waiting until he's around.
  18. Moved to the proper subforum.
  19. I'm reminded of this time I made the station go under code red for mass murders after identifying the gibs of about 4 different mice in engineering.
  20. I disagree. I've seen several AI units, including my own Qwerty and the Katana series, work across several platforms. Katana's value as an AI does not decrease simply because she is in an IPC compared to an AI frame on the station. It SHOULD be the software that costs the most. Remember that programing unique AIs is still something being researched, mostly because I image things like identical codes behaving differently is a thing. I'd say an AI can run on any mass produced machine that costs next to nothing to build. Hence you would use the card to remove programming information and store it to keep it safe. As snow flakey as this sounds, Katana and Qwerty may just be special cases in a world of mass-manufactured AI systems (Which is what Centurion originally was, as an example). I can see the argument of the core itself being an expensive piece of equipment, and the value of an AI varying widely depending on its source
  21. Yep. You can ERP in peace off station as well. Yes. Plenty of ERP there. Katana x Centurion Ariana x Chance Ziva x Every male zhan khazaan she meets
  22. Typically, antag rounds are considered uncanon for the purpose of 'This isnt properly in character or something that could have actually happened if this character still exists'. Alot of us do some form of off-station RP in one form or another; I tend to poke other people to say 'Hey, XXX did YYY with ZZZ right? Cool.'
  23. I don't believe the byond account linking is setup yet.
  24. Discord, since it doesn't require voice to still be a chat platform.
  25. Right so, ignoring the cluster**** of posts above... The main issue I have is that it went from one side of the fence to the other without word or warning; Not everyone checks the wiki on a regular basis (Hell, I don't normally look at it except as a refresher for new characters or something I'm not 100% sure about). While I do have two characters in homosexual relationships, one of them you'd probably never know (Kylan Lo'Rah and Naiim Yar'kiy). The other one is a bit more open/obvious about it, particularly due to being married (Rasine and Jo'Zah). The change doesn't really affect any of my existing characters any, but I can see how it could have affected other people's characters if they built them around a previous note saying homosexuality was openly accepted. It's similar to how I built Miraj Zi'Ad around the lore saying that tajara were discriminated against, treated basically like modern day mexican workers, weren't considered intelligent, etc etc. And then none of that actually holds any bearing or effect, rendering all of that backstory/effort basically useless/inapplicable.
