General Complaint - Security Discord Members
Kintsugi replied to a topic in Complaints Boards Archive
The only thing that could vaguely be interpreted as being me saying something in poor form was a joke taken out of context about the appearance of a character, which was a comment made in passing. I see no reason why I am mentioned in this frankly bizarre player complaint, (which is in my opinion unactionable to begin with.), especially as apparently one of the most egregious offenders, apparently so egregious that I am at the top of the list. I have nothing to say beyond "I didn't do anything wrong, and don't know why I was mentioned at all", and would like to leave it at that. -

BYOND Key: DanseMacabre Staff BYOND Key: Itzal Game ID: Not really applicable. Reason for complaint: I had a funny idea to play for April Fools. It involved playing a character I had made bearing a strong resemblance to a movie character - problem is, the name was locked to the original joke name of "Phoron Man". I had ahelped asking to have this changed to a name that sounded SIMILAR to "Phoron Man". Itzal took the ticket, asked me why, and I explained it was for April Fools. I was told this was not acceptable, and while this surprised me (Because of the things that normally fly on April Fools day- if you're wondering what I mean, feel free to look at some recent PRs on github...), I said it was fine and asked if I could go with a totally innocuous name instead. Itzal rather curtly told me that he had "no interest in helping me break the rules", and I said that at that point, he might as well close the ticket. I later ahelped about my notes because of how unamiable the exchange seemed to be, and I was told I got a ticket for "...asking to rename a character to phoron man." I don't feel that I displayed the intent or the bad faith necessary to receive any administrative action, especially considering I have never before broken the rules on Aurora. I acknowledged that the first name I requested was unacceptable, and I was willing to go with a more normal name. I was not argumentative or combative - and, again, this was for an April Fools gag. I just don't think a note is fair, here. Evidence/logs/etc: Additional remarks: This really isn't a big deal. I just think the note is absolutely unnecessary, and I'd like it removed.

I'd like to encourage the mappers of the NBT to make an important structural change: Avoid break rooms. You see, break rooms sound good in theory, but in practice they're a bad idea - they segregate casual roleplay from other departments. By giving every department a break room, you are encouraging insularity and making it so that if someone wants to hang out with their bros, they may do it in an area that can only be accessed by their departmental clique. I would say that one of the best changes you could make with the NBT is to have, instead of break rooms, a number of varied recreational facilities that are accessible by the entire crew. A classy lounge, a gym, etc etc. Also, I'd say merge the bar and the kitchen into one area.

Now, I know this is asking for a lot - but I cannot help but miss xenomorphs. Sure, they were abysmal on Aurora-- largely because it was the flawed Baystation version, which disastrously turned them into carbon mobs. The fact of the matter is that the niche is good. "Biological outbreak that uses the crew to sustain itself" is a fascinating concept, and has a lot of potential from a roleplay point of view. In essence, what I propose is the simplest way to do this- though I would gladly welcome more advanced ones. The Greimorian queen would get a rework: it wouldn't be a simple boss mob anymore, but a queen similar to the xenomorph queen of old - it can lay eggs, plant webs, heal, etc. When a queen is active, ghost spawners would open up for players to control a number of Greimorians. In essence, the objective would be for the Greimorian hive to grow, and capture crewmembers to use as hosts for eggs. Like I said, relatively simple concept - but I feel it'd add a lot to the game. I welcome more advanced ways to do this - but for now, I think this is an easy way to get some lost themes back onto the server.

TheGreyWolf's Tajara application
Kintsugi replied to TheGreyWolf's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Having remembered you from Bay, I must say that I'm not quite enthusiastic about the possibility of you playing Tajara on Aurora - though I will say that it has also been three years since then, and it's entirely possible that you've gotten better since the Resomi days (I know I have, anyway). I'd be willing to see you given a shot, but I can't help but be skeptical at the same time. Still, everybody deserves the benefit of the doubt! -
Not my intention, but I can easily see why it came off that way— I blame grouchiness and phoneposting. Apologies to OP regardless - I will say that my original point still stands, though. This doesn’t seem constructive - it really does read like “I prefer the old stuff, and that’s that.” You’re allowed to have that opinion, but from an objective standpoint they are no less detailed.
-
Hi. I think you’re wrong and I also think it’s very disrespectful to the spriter who has put in dozens of hours reworking these suits and weapons to try and say “the new stuff is just worse, revert”

This is a fairly easy thing to code (If you can even call copy-pasting coding, at this point), and I would actually recommend you try it as it is an easy way to contribute to the codebase. Feel free to contact me on the discord if you want help with this process.
-
This image is correct. I'm afraid it doesn't change anything I said at all, however. I do find the fact that you'd include it as an attempt to "gotcha" me to be excessively petty and immature. As for the rest of what you said, I can't say it impacts my stance at all - the fact of the matter is that if need be, this process can just be a simple change of hats - and relay moderators simply get inducted into the official staff team as it is.

The NPT discord is a strange beast - an affiliated discord in the same realm as the lore discord and departmental discord, the NPT is mentioned in official announcements (such as the one made last night) and is given quasi-official status - the NPT was provided a unique server icon to match the new icons that the lore, official, and staff discords have - and was apparently approached for private discussions about matters which the normal playerbase would not be made aware of until later. And yet, at the same time, it is wholly unaccountable to the playerbase. The NPT, despite its apparently official status, is run by a parallel staff structure which has no affiliation with the real staff team. Occasionally some members of the staff team find themselves becoming relay staff, but this is not the rule - the NPT staff team can operate as they please, and new members of that team are recruited only by the NPT staff team and by the NPT staff team's standards. A player who finds themselves banned from the NPT has no way to appeal that ban except to the NPT staff team - and the ban appeal process is undocumented and largely subject to the whims of the NPT staff team. The relay also finds itself in a situation where moderation is held to less stringent standards than the real Aurora servers are - to be frank, this system is completely unsustainable. If the NPT is going to continue being a quasi-official discord that has a real and relevant relationship with Aurora, it'll need to be administered by actual Aurora staff- and held to the same standards. Now, fortunately this hasn't really been an issue yet. I don't have any grudges or any outstanding problems with the majority of the NPT's team, and for the most part I think it's a great group of reasonable people. But the fact of the matter is that this really isn't acceptable in the long term - just because it's worked so far doesn't mean that tomorrow it'll continue working. In essence, I am requesting that Aurora's management put their foot down on this issue and integrate the discord into the official community apparatus - actual server staff should be the only people involved with managing the discord, and nobody else. Ban appeals, staff complaints, and what have you, will all be done through official Aurora methods. I wouldn't mind it if new staff roles were made purely for the NPT - stuff like relay staff and scenemasters - but for ultimately, they'll all need to be actual Aurora staff.

This thread is almost a year old. The reason for the lack of action is because this is something that the staff team ultimately controls. A player cannot untick a gamemode and remove it from the rotation, as the config file is manipulated server-side, not controlled by the code.
-
Correct. This topic exists to remove a gamemode that brings absolutely nothing to the table of our HRP server.

Law three is unacceptably vague. A horror form changeling could kill the entire crew, and the AI would be obligated to protect it from the HAPT kill-team sent to get rid of it, so long as it could demonstrate sapience.

Visegrad Canonization Application
Kintsugi replied to Kintsugi's topic in Lore Canonization Applications Archive
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1A_U-D_8ri20yVdRb4uYpfryXcF4B8b41Ei02dSFqID4/edit?usp=sharing - The following is a section that I do not want to include on the main document, but is absolutely important to Visegrad as a proposed addition. In essence, this document outlines the role I propose Visegrad would play in the wildlands, if canonized. -
Looks mad cute to me, kywes

What is the problem with “cop roleplay”, exactly?

All in all I am generally happy with the new sprites. I will say that I am not a fan of the chrome uzi, even though I know you are very fond of it, and I think the warm tones for the metal on the ballistic handguns and the shotgun looks very strange. I'd generally go with a colder tint, personally, likely more blue than red. I think the best sprite here is probably the SMG.

I really hate to see this used as an example as to the misbehavior of the security department, because it's really unfair. Let me point out that during this event, security was outgunned and outnumbered. There were seven Solarian inspectors: of those seven, six had extremely good hardsuits - the solarian military hardsuit is one of the best in the game - with those hardsuits being equipped with pulse carbine modules. The marines themselves also had potent ballistic weapons, and other hardsuit modules (like the chemdispensor). If you want to see what I mean, boot up a private server and set your human outfit to admin -> event -> heavy solarian marine. If security tried to force an engagement during this round without tons of cargo gear, they'd have been wiped- all of those characters would've been canonically killed. As it were, security was gearing up to fight the marines. They just left before they could. This was not a Solarian merc team - this was a squad of people using admin-only gear. I don't think it's fair to claim that there exists some disparity in security behaviors that is clearly demonstrated by this example, because if this was a non-canon round, I still doubt security would've engaged.
