  1. As funny as 30 as a requirement for bridge crew is, I don't think it's strictly necessary. 25 I think would still be reasonable. Do I think it's a major issue at the same time? No.
  2. BYOND Key: DanseMacabre Discord Username: DanseMacabre#6742 Character Name: Iliasz Jajszczyk Item Name: (if you are applying for multiple items, it should be made into a list with the description, name and appearance together): naval pilot's jacket Item Function(s): It's a jacket worn over a uniform, with two slots of storage space. Can also be zipped and unzipped. Item Description: A sturdy nomex-lined jacket, flame-resistant and sleek. A garment of choice for anyone who might be in the cockpit of something with a risk of catching fire. There's a name patch sewn onto the breast of this one, reading "JAJSZCZYK". This one seems more rugged than most flight jackets would be, and also appears to have some waterproofing. A Solarian flag in miniature rests on the right sleeve, the colors faded and worn. Why is your character bringing this item to work?: Iliasz previously wore a similar jacket to work aboard the NSS Aurora. With his pending transfer to the SCCV Horizon, he has opted for a more durable one that's better suited for field use, and the risks that come with being aboard an exploration vessel. That aside, he's been wearing these jackets for the bulk of his adult life, and to him they're very comfortable. How did your character obtain this item?: Prior to his employment as an EPMC, Iliasz was enlisted in the Solarian navy, working as an exosuit operator. Flame-retardant jackets such as this are standard-issue for mech pilots all over the spur on account of the risks that come with operating an exosuit, and this has been in his wardrobe ever since he first enlisted. What value does this item have to your character, and what story does it tell?: This jacket holds immense sentimental value to Iliasz, one of the few remaining momentos of the life he lived before ending up in Biesel- he was exceptionally fond of his trade and cherishes the memories he made while wearing it. It reminds him of where he comes from, and is in many ways a symbol of better times. It also has substantial practical value, being a rugged, well-insulated jacket that'd serve him well in his day-to-day work as a security officer. And who knows - maybe he'll pilot a mech or two aboard the Horizon, if he's lucky. Sprites: pilotjacket.dmi I still need to make the unzipped sprite, but that shouldn't be too hard. Additional Comments: Sprite heavily edited from a Baystation 12 sprite.
  3. I am reviving this thread. Technomancer also sucks. It's time to move on. Remove Technomancer from the secret rotation and replace it with meteor, now that we're switching to the NBT. This setup will work better and will actually be fun.
  4. I think nobody can deny that Faye's probably one of the community's most passionate when it comes to IPCs and IPC lore. In fact, I imagine if you polled the server to ask everyone who they thought the biggest synth fan around was, Faye would probably be one of the first people to come to mind for most. Their writing is solid and generally I think they have all that it takes to be a good synthlore deputy - the only thing I have approaching a concern is that they may need to be mindful of keeping a cool head in whatever heated lore discussions come up. Consider this post my +1. Here are some questions of my own: 1. In the past and perhaps present, IPC lore has been fairly ambiguous about things such as the true nature of IPC emotion, personhood, etc - it's up to interpretation on a person-to-person basis. How do you feel about this narrative choice? 2. How do you feel about lore discussing the role of IPCs in the militaries of the spur? Would you like to work on this particular subject? 3. If you were forced to remove one thing of substance from IPC lore, what would it be, and why? Everything is on the table here. 4. What are your thoughts about biosynthetic shells, as previously outlined in one synthlore proposal document?
  5. Some thoughts: Due to the importance of holding the bridge on the NBT (for multiple reasons: it actually controls the ship now, and it is also the only way to open the crew armory) I think it would be fair to add a locker to the BC prep room that can be opened only by real command, which contains armor and helmets for the BCs. Just an extra little something to help them hold the bridge - because if push comes to shove and the mercs are breaking down the door, they need to fight! An alternative would be to add a second way to open the crew armory somewhere on the ship. Speaking of the crew armory: There aren't enough helmets and armor to go around. If that's intentional, I don't mind - I do think that there should be some clothing item within that the regulations require anyone in the crew militia wear. An armband, or something - what I personally always thought would be cool was hardhats and hazard vests with a specific color scheme instead of armor. I also think the armor within should be the generic grey armor and helmets instead of the navy blue corporate armor and helmets - just a small thought. The addition of diagonal walls here is good, but I also think that this wall should also be made into diagonal ones. Kind of a nitpick, but I think the pods still look too blocky.
  6. Minor suggestion, but corner sprites could stand to be used here and on the other side instead of full walls.
  7. Very big fan of the code red lights. I would also consider re-adding the code blue lights, but making the tint much more subtle. Also happy we have the light randomization, I think getting rid of 100% white lights is absolutely a step in the right direction.
  8. this message is an infohazard that causes cysts to form in your earlobes

    1. Lucaken

      Lucaken

      SCP reference.

      Can we ban Danse?

Go ahead, ban me. It won't get rid of your earlobe cysts.

  9. Aforementioned Bay randomized light tones: https://github.com/Baystation12/Baystation12/pull/29924 It's subtle, but I think this subtle difference is EXACTLY what we need to replace our sterile white lights.
  10. I feel like we need more colored lights, not less light over all. Most lights as-is are just plain white. It'd be nice to have many more tinted lights. On Bay, iirc, a random slight tint is assigned to the ship's lights at round start. It might be worth looking into.
  11. It's very labor-intensive to do one of those sprites, as you are essentially spriting an entire ship from scratch while also having that work with the ingame shape, and that sprite will only ever be used in one place. The new plan, to my knowledge, is to make faction-specific walls and parts that can be put together to make new shuttles. That is how the Intrepid works, for example - the antag shuttles I imagine have placeholder walls instead.
  12. I'm going to interject to say that presenting screenshots of Kyres saying "nibba" two years ago is hardly a fair thing to use as evidence of "slur usage". I think there are legitimate concerns and criticisms you may have of Kyres as a deputy loremaster, but that is just reaching - it's simply unfair and I don't think it can be considered a legitimate knock against Kyres as a candidate. In most contexts I would consider dredging up logs from years ago solely because of their potential to be damaging to be acting in bad faith - not saying that this is the case here, but I am saying that I don't think the practice is a good one.
  13. should stop being called the foreign legion and should just be the legion
  14. Another thing - If the command roles shown all start wearing sneakers, I would recommend giving them oxford shoes instead. They look much better and more formal. Captain with brown sneakers is very bizarre.
  15. I hate to be the sole voice of dissent, but I feel like the shading style is very inconsistent. If I had to guess this is because there are different artists at work here. Security in particular has an extremely bad case of pillow shading - operations and engineering also have it bad, with command having it depending on the department. Some sprites look like they belong on CM instead of Aurora, in that regard. All in all I think that service and medical look best - science also has the same issue but it's not as bad because I think the colors make it look less obvious.
  16. I'd support this for the same reason I support the command whitelist removal. If someone hasn't played in a long time, and that time is measured in years, they're completely out of touch with the community, the lore, the game, etc - and species whitelists rely on good lore knowledge even more than command whitelists do.
  17. I think my reply was removed for reasons unknown. I can only assume it was because it was "too short" but other people have given replies that were essentially the exact same. Maybe my message didn't go through - either way, I think someone should probably be notified if their message is deleted, even if it doesn't result in a warning. With that in mind, let me be less brief: I think this is a good idea. I see absolutely no reason to let people who have no present investment with the server and the community come back after years(!) of not being present and then play command roles. Even from when I first started playing Aurora towards the end of 2019, the server has changed massively - the lore is more different than it is the same in regards to content, the server map will be wholly different, mechanics vary wildly... With the potential for a mass return of players who have been gone for a while, I think the NBT necessitates a wipe such as this. It isn't fair for the playerbase of the now to have to deal with people who don't even know what the SCC *is* or other countless changes to what Aurora is as a server coming back to Aurora and taking up very important slots that usually dictate the direction of a round, especially taking those slots from players who *are* invested in the server and active in the community.
  18. While originally this thought was wholly unrelated to this application and was just something that came to mind while people were talking about Coalition politics, you did mention this application in response to me saying it, so I figured I would repeat it here - I feel that generally speaking, the Coalition's internal politics should be based less around amorphous political caucuses and parties and instead be based largely off of planet-lead factions. For example, the Himean faction would be anti-corporate, etc. I feel like this would underscore that the Coalition is not a true nation in the sense of the word, and instead a group of many competing nations with differing interests. Parties that transcend planetary divisions give the false impression that there is a sense of Coalition unity, when really the Coalition should only be unified on one subject: They don't want to be part of Sol.
  19. This is a very nice post, I am glad you like it! Personally, I feel quite strongly that we need at least one more wildlands planet, ideally in the northern wildlands. The planet ban makes this impossible, unfortunately, and I fear we may never see another canon wildlands planet. In a perfect world I would want a planet for every warlord, but that's a tall order - one more would get the job done.
  20. Let's say that by host decree, a substantial chunk of the lore needs to be destroyed. A quarter? A tenth? It does not matter. What do you think is most superfluous in regards to Aurora's lore, and why? Is it underdeveloped? Isolated? Irredeemable? Irrelevant? Unnecessary? You can remove anything, but you nonetheless must remove SOMETHING.
  21. I personally feel like it's questionable to expect the sub-teams to contribute to other species' lore. There's not necessarily any problem with that, but I feel like it's odd to make that an expectation. Someone who signed up to write Vaurca lore should not be expected to write Human lore - why should they? Alb writes Taj lore because he is the Taj loredev, not the Human loredev or the Diona loredev.
  22. Overmap will technically fix this.
  23. It is in my opinion that no other Aurorastation player is better-suited for the position of deputy loremaster than Alb. I think it's no coincidence that under Alb's leadership, Tajara lore has become pound for pound the most cohesive, highest quality, and oftentimes the most fun to engage with. I held out hope he would apply for the position the last time it opened up: I am glad to see that he applied this time around. Alb's work with the lore has produced some of the most entertaining stuff I've had to deal with on Aurora, and he is level-headed and clearly quite dedicated to the server, all while being quite attentive and approachable. Giving this application a +1 is a no-brainer, and I hope to see him in the job when this application period is done. I'm confident he'll do great things with it.
  24. I was involved in this conversation. As I explained prior, I deleted my posts after the fact because having a loremaster call me an identitarian rattled me deeply. While that compromises it to a degree, I am nonetheless sure someone else involved can corroborate the fact your posts were directed at me and I was, in fact, involved.
  25. I certainly hope so. This thread is not about my and Jackboot's relationship, nor am I seeking any re-evaluation of it. As such, I would like to dissuade any discussion regarding this subject matter for the sake of not clogging up the thread, and would like to keep things focused on the subject matter at hand.
