  1. I more or less agree that "breeder" is a bit of a yucky term. Gyne sounds a lot better, if you ask me, so I support this app.
  2. you can already do this https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/6940
  3. Let me just point out to my fellow feedbackers ahead of time that it should be kept in mind that these turf sprites don't exist in a vacuum - they're just part of a larger respriting project. Obviously they're going to look out of place as-is - the rest of the resprites aren't in. I'm going to echo the concern that the rivets take up too much visual real estate. I would recommend only using them on certain turfs/adding the rivets as a decal instead of as a part of the floor tile sprite itself. That way, you can sprinkle them around. Otherwise, they should be made smaller. I will also echo the sentiment that things are too bright/saturated at the moment. I've always felt that Kyres had a good point when he maintained that a darker background is best, as it helps make character sprites pop. At the moment, the floor tiles are as bright and eye-catching as the sprites, which is a serious problem. My other primary concern is that the plain-jane plating clashes badly with the normal floor tiles and grates. This is especially obvious in maintenance. Plating should be changed to match the palette of the grating/floor tiles.
  4. Not that my word means anything here (Schwann is actually on the lore team, I am not, and I'm biased in the first place as he's a very good friend of mine), but me and Schwann have talked pretty extensively about Schlosser's background/the NDF as a whole/etc and I think he's definitely very committed and invested in this character, her backstory, and the lore he's working with in regards to this character. I think it's definitely fair to give Schlosser this item, and on a personal level I appreciate that Schwann is working with a piece of lore that doesn't come up very often.
  5. I don't really have a strong feeling either way regarding this, but I will say that G2s are not the ideal species for a team-focused role like security officer. You are supposed to be able to respond quickly and to be able to keep up with your team, wherever they may go. G2s are slow and struggle to achieve either of those things. What G2s are good at are soaking up damage, however, which makes them very oppressive to antagonists, who are nearly always outnumbered and at best have slight equipment superiority over officers. Even fighting a lone officer in specialized armor can be a difficult task for an antagonist - going up against an entire department can be nearly insurmountable. Mix in G2s, which are difficult to kill and immune to pain, and you're sincerely fucked. Not for nothing, but people make a lot of fuss about antag G2s, when security G2s are a far more difficult threat to counter for whatever goes up against them than an antagonist G2. And that's not even considering the age-old fact that security has a far easier time of recuperating from their injuries than antagonists do. G1s are less of a problem, but their .8 brute modifier is nothing to scoff at. So what are we left with? A frame that isn't suited to being a team player, but absolutely dominates whatever it goes up against. Something has to change for sure. Not sure if this is a joke or not, but non-staff can't vote for dismissal. The problem with claiming there's no issue with G2s because certain situational counters exist is just that: they're situational. Ion rifles are low-capacity, a waste of TCs for anything except fighting IPCs or draining laser weapon charge, and large enough to carry that the storage cost is immense. The same goes for the PEAC. Emp grenades are, again, essentially a waste of TCs and are finite in numbers. They're also not foolproof: it's fairly easy to throw back an EMP grenade, or to walk away from it, and it's very easy to misuse them in the first place. I think you're just proving the point this thread is making: if an antagonist needs to buy niche weapons only effective against one type of enemy in order to have a chance at all of countering that enemy in a reasonable fashion, there is a problem. The fact of the matter is that TCs are far too precious of a resource to be dumping into something like this.
  6. A well distinguished man is walking through the hood, as people see him walk down the street, a group of thugs eye him down and decide to follow him. The group of gangsters follow the man into the elevator, where they take him into their secret lair. When the man arrives, the harsh organization of gangster's that run the hood strip him of all his belongings, and hold him hostage in their secret lair. It is now up to the town sheriff to rescue the man, and arrest the gangster organization for their crimes against the town.

  7. I would much rather we work on the readability of the new sprites as opposed to reverting them outright, considering how much of an improvement they are in terms of art quality and stylistic consistency.
  8. Hey buddy I think you got the wrong door, the LRP club's two blocks down
  9. I don't really have many outstanding concerns, but this equipment room is absolutely too cramped. The round-start rush to get geared will be a pain in the ass when you're hemmed in on all sides by other officers, having to force your way through them to get to your locker or to get out of the equipment room. I also think the holding cells and isolation cells are too cramped as well, but that's less of an issue. The equipment room needs to be at least one tile taller.

  12. To be fair, I think last event's lackluster roleplay situation was definitely in part perpetuated by Aurora regulars, and not something we can necessarily dump on the backs of hub players.
  13. Some will call it elitist, but personally I think we have to do something to prevent pop from snowballing during events. The influx of players attracts more players on the hub, and more players means a LOT more lag - which is very noticeable during events. As a potential alternative to this, I would propose just taking the server off the hub for the duration of the event. That way, only those who would join in passing after seeing the high population count on the hub would be excluded, while everyone with an actual interest in the event will be able to participate.
  14. I don't really think you have the temperament or right mindset to be a server moderator. I personally feel that you have a tendency to always argue a point no matter what, with the end goal of proving yourself right, even over minor disputes or disagreements. I don't think that is the right sort of mindset for a moderator to have.
  15. I am making this thread as an alternative to - The fact of the matter is that I think the fear over having a member of command outrank the others is unreasonable and I don't feel it presents any meaningful problems. I think having a more concrete chain of command will create a better dynamic within command and also make more sense with regards to the XO's position aboard the ship.

  17. Ever have an amazing round that was so much fun you wish you could go back and watch it? Or have you ever played in an event round and you want to share what happened in it with people who couldn't make it? Maybe you saw something incredible that you wish you could show the playerbase? Or perhaps you've been caught on the wrong end of a ridiculous player complaint and want to be able to show staff what exactly happened? Record your rounds! It's simple! It's easy! And if you carefully manage your recordings, not too heavy on your storage. First thing's first - forget what you learned when you tried to record your Minecraft Let's Plays and Roblox Funny Moments videos in 2011. No FRAPS, and definitely no Bandicam. Everyone these days uses OBS - it's free, it's open-source, and it works like a charm. You can download it here: https://obsproject.com/ Once you have OBS installed, you can open it up and it'll look like this: To be honest, I don't use pretty much anything OBS has to offer. Actually, I barely know how to use the program. But thankfully, it's really easy. All you have to do to set it up is click this button, in the sources section: This will open up a menu. From there, all you have to do is click "Window Capture" You can call it what you want. I always keep it as the default. Afterwards, it'll bring up this menu. You'll want to set the "Window" to match what is here (in order to do this, you'll want the server and game client open). Note that with the default options, you can use this method to record other servers, too. If you want to record a game other than SS13, you can just change the window, as well.) Click "OK" and you're all set! Once you have OBS open and your window capture properly set up, all you have to do to start recording a round is clicking this button in the controls section. Note: while OBS will only capture this window and this window alone, all of the audio on your computer will be captured, as well as audio from your mic if you haven't muted it. Once you start recording, you can stop at any time, and once you do your recording will automatically be saved to your videos folder. Now, the one downside to recording your rounds: Videos are fucking big. A full round can be anywhere from half a gigabyte to ~2 gigabytes in size. Usually a normal two-hour round will be 750mb to 1gb for me, but mileage varies. As such, it is good practice to go back and delete your recordings if there's nothing worth saving in the video immediately after round end. If there's only a little bit worth saving, you can use a program like VLC and its "record" function to make a clip, which conveniently will also be saved automatically to your videos folder. If a round is worth keeping, I would recommend uploading it to Youtube either privately or publically and deleting your recording unless you REALLY want to keep your hands on the original, for whatever reason. Have fun and good luck!

  20. Cybs states my thoughts more or less exactly, here. There is no reason why we should cut BCs out of the loop and create an entirely new channel just to support this one solitary job. While delineation of responsibilities is great and all, this is just too far.
  21. Sure - While Inkwell was originally fairly deferential and impassive, close collaboration with their owner over the years in the field of investigative journalism has lead to them adopting a more driven and focused personality (both at their owner's behest and with their own understanding that behaving in this way is the best way to achieve their goals in the course of their work). Inkwell as they are currently maintains an affable and amiable disposition, and with a genial and generally out-going nature: Inkwell is generally very social and goes out of their way to talk to people as much as possible. Nonetheless, they're somewhat unprincipled and at the end of the day, their number one priority is always going to be getting the best story possible - and to a degree, their relationship with other people can end up being superficial as a result, as their ultimate priority is going to be doing the best job possible on the behalf of their owner.
  22. BYOND Key: DanseMacabre Character Names: Iliasz Jajszczyk is the one people will know and the others aren't really relevant. Species you are applying to play: IPC Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Character Name: Inkwell Please provide a short backstory for this character: What do you like about this character: How would you rate your role-playing ability: Stupid question, I’m not going to answer it. Here’s the quote from my Taj WL app explaining why: Notes:
  23. Nope. That would be a reference.
  24. As the final hour begins and the end of the server draws nearer, I wanted to take the opportunity to make a thread for us to all talk about the good times, and to share the love we had for Aurora. Though only ten of us will remain here and the rest will scatter to the wind, Aurora has long been a fantastic server with a fantastic community. It breaks my heart to see the only server I played continuously for years die, and I am not sure I will have the same passion I had for Aurora for any other SS13 server. I may quit the game altogether in light of the passing of this community. Here's what I have to say about Aurora: Never forget Aurorastation. Gone but not forgotten.
