  1. Partially copy pasting what I commented on the PR here. There's a total of around ten welding tanks on the entire map. A good chunk are inside of locked rooms or in maint. Most of these can't drop anyone into space or cause venting at all unless they're on the further end of the starboard/port wings or are one of two that are present on the hangar deck. In terms of gameplay and being interesting, I'm not really sure if many engineering players would call dealing with fire more interesting, as the standard response to one happening is already just venting the room because a fire is either ignorable or reaches pressures so high you can't realistically siphon or cool it down without it taking the duration of an entire round or more. There's nothing really complex or thought provoking about that. Removing the chance entirely just seems to be less options from my perspective, since a fire that isn't going to get snuffed out by space is what typically happens, it just doesn't tend to go out of control due to happening in more open areas. Removing the ability to make a hole at all is ultimately means less to do for repairs and less falling into the hangar, which is funny. I'm also not really approaching this from the angle of "antags need the boost" and just find it cool to take advantage of the increased verticality of the Horizon map when someone chooses to actually use the few fuel tanks available at the moment. We have that in some of the more open spaces, but I'm a big fan of people making holes, intended or not into spaces they want to get into. I've seen that used to good effect sometimes and it more than outweighs the chance to vent a room, which is something both antags and sec can frequently counter anyway. There is no need to change how anything works is my final thought here.
  2. I don't think it being an alt-title would be a bad thing really. I think the name of your position is always going to be an important part of your character and even if an assistant can do the same things, I'll have different thoughts on a "recreational-attendant" versus the more general purpose assistant. So, I don't mind this. More alt titles for assistants specifically could be cool.
  3. Hello, sorry this took a while. Regarding the apology being genuine or not, that is not too important really. The reason the strikes happened and then the ban was because you went beyond not taking things well, even when you weren't directly involved at times. The explanation you gave in your appeal is a point of concern due to that. I will post the sentence from the appeal. You're saying it's just an explanation, not an excuse, but it does make it seem as if you're shifting the blame to others or still implying after multiple complaints people were just lying. That is just not really what happened and Garn was even agreeing with you that spreading propaganda wasn't what you were actually doing. There was a clear pattern of not dropping things and insulting other people. So if that is still how you feel about it, it would make me kind of concerned that it might happen again. For that reason I don't think Mel was wrong to deny the appeal. If you appeal again though, it does not really need a longer apology or anything since I agree, that is pointless. You would be better served elaborating more about how you went the wrong way about things and how it could be handled differently on your part next time if this happened again. I'll archive the thread in a day or two unless either of you want to say something.
  4. I think it would be fine to remove them from most roles in sec other than maybe warden, which I think is kind of fitting to a degree.
  5. I'll move this to completed soon if there's nothing more and any potential further suggestions could be discussed on the code channel in the maincord should they come up.
  6. Prefacing this, didn't see your last post because I posted at roughly the same time as you. That aside we will just have to disagree on how detrimental we think it's for the rest of the server at the moment but I do ultimately agree we can take steps to bridge the gap, so to speak.
  7. Forgot to mention I also think it wouldn't be a problem to make it so the xenoarchs/bcs/the pilot can mostly setup and refuel the shuttle alone. The idea of a refueling port has been shot down in the past, but it continues to look pretty good to me if we're imagining the ideal future where people lollygag on expedition prep and there's confusion on who does what to help who. Someone who goes on expeditions can also tell me if I'm wrong, but at this point what I've been noticing is that instead of trying to get more fuel/supplies from a department like they used to, expeditions generally leave ASAP with anything they can procure themselves without relying on others that might potentially delay them. They typically don't suffer for this, as the fuel consumption of the secondary thrust was lowered by a lot and they don't burn enough to run out of gas for now.
  8. I'd say that I think this is a deeper problem that Aurora has had for a while now that essential stuff like (just as an example) a publicly available medical kit could be seen as an anathema and "robbing" medical of its gameplay. The reality now that you've touched on is that it's even harder to believe the crew has any robust ways to help itself when they're expected to go out and do expeditions and be independent. I'd go further and say the medical lockers around the ship could do with having way more medical supplies and more robust ones at that. We should allow people in general to use stuff like the sleeper on the Intrepid (this is a REALLY good tool to keep someone alive and it doesn't even solve their inherent problems). People can say "sucks to suck" or that an EMT should really be present but away teams shouldn't have any requirement to keep a security officer to protect them or an EMT (and medical only gets the two). Through any reasonable means possible, we should give people the ability to do their best to ensure they survive as long as possible, it's not as if a dead person is going to offer any further roleplay to any department once they're back past any grief roleplay. They would also still have long-term issues only medical can solve. The part where I differ here mostly, is that I don't think weapons should be standard-issue past the machetes, which are more of a utility tool. If they're absolutely required, they could ask for them but otherwise I think most of the time it's not needed.
  9. Which is fine and more of a reason to me to fine tune that if required. Stuff like lowpop vines happen because it counts any crew member available at the moment as part of its spawn chance rather than just engineering, since I suppose it's expected that more than them dealing with it. Just not a fan of it as it's a proposal to add something that would be mechanically stapled to the shielding, which is already a system we would do well to de-emphasize the more overmap-content we add (and indeed we have, stuff like the bubble is gone) as it's a binary thing that just no-sells most space problems. I can see that being desired for the same reason, but it's far more interesting to me add choices and customization to this stuff to make it matter. A separate system is more than fine though, it just shouldn't piggyback off of this and needs to stay separate in my opinion. I'd sooner just add a shuttle whitelist (which is possible mechanically) and assign explicitly SCC friendly entities as being able to use the interior hangar only. Also want to say that at the moment overmap ships randomly boarding without permission is an administrative issue (even if they're friendly) and likely always will be unless we get clearly marked overmap antags in. So it's not a problem I think as we're past the days of Einstein shuttles randomly coming in and begging for fuel. The way communications work at the moment is that they're still going to know the Horizon has a skeleton crew due to the new telecommunications changes. It broadcasts the common channel to anyone nearby, which they can also talk to. So they're not in the dark. It's honestly not really a problem that can be solved anyway, because either way the third parties will be staring at a Horizon that won't be doing much with them and honestly, they shouldn't even be revolving around the Horizon anyway. Maybe a lowpop Intrepid away team and meet up and rp with them, but yeah. At the core of everything though... ...I just don't think this that is what this would accomplish and in the worst case, it would be a massive problem, multiple even, because our engineering players matter too. Those don't need to be the only solutions either because it's still a reality we have managed to support lowpop somewhat in the past without totally removing an important element to engineering, and they still mattered. The other thing is that we don't really balance around lowpop to begin with and have said as much on similar threads such as this. I wouldn't say we should totally leave lowpop in the cold but all I can see with the solutions given is that it would mostly invalidate a department and end up killing highpop engineering for the sake of lower populations, while not exactly solving the issue in lowpop either. I'm personally fully willing to look into seeing about an autosolars setup and some remote valves (though that might need to be a port) for the thrusters among other things mentioned as alternatives here, as I still see those as better solutions to the "problem".
  10. I'm not really for this. The same thoughts were said back when we tried having the SMES already powered and setup on the station map (this proved unpopular). It was also an engineering effort to outright remove one of the Horizon thruster sections already being pre-setup because engineering wanted to play with the thrusters. Some call this busywork. Others don't. I personally can have an engine setup within minutes and the thrusters in less than a minute (you can just skip the burn chamber and directly inject phoron) without any real interruption to my roleplay. I understand part of that is due to my own experience in the department, but a lot of engineers do way more than they need to either because they want to or because it's the usual. I also believe jobs should have a few things to do at the start anyway because at the core, people are here for the gameplay and mechanics too. Rather than directly remove core gameplay loops I would just return what we lost which lightened the burden a bit on the station map along with other new ideas that would add options instead. We had sections of the solars that were already setup (roof zlevel) and could let a lowpop shift without engineers subsist for a while on the station. We could extend that automation to potentially giving the bridge a way to remotely turn on the thruster pumps if no engineers are awake. Instead of the reliance on having operations (they can't really do this in practice anyway) or engineering directly fuel the Horizon, there could be a refueling port for pilots to supply the Intrepid with. As for shields, they aren't really relevant if the ship moves and I'd rather have the more customizeable Bay shields than the one and done iteration. I also really do not want to link the shields to third parties being able to board or not, because that doesn't really make much sense to me compared to just having docking codes so the airlocks won't open until those are sent over. Don't like the idea of just completely stopping random events if the Horizon hasn't moved either, because stuff should still happen without the Horizon setting out to look for it.
  11. Something that's peculiar to me is that another Stars alt was banned recently, and they sent us a picture of them talking about it on a private Discord. I looked back at some of the other stuff that's been posted about this cord, including your own picture here now and identical role colours are being used between omega and the evader. I'll be re-stating stuff that's already been said here to an extent. It's known some people are prowling through the Discords trying to start problems. Zulu himself has said he posted pictures to a private discord. We know omega is outright trying to "rile up" others to act on his behalf and subsequently, a bunch of people who have no real recent activity and little community presence went in to talk about him. Now, it seems to be the case that Zulu is likely lying about not interacting with Stars and that stuff is being left out here. I hope you can see further what I mean now when I say I'd really like to believe there's just been a series of coincidences, but the way It's all been stacking up makes it impossible to share that view. Your position would come off as a lot more reasonable if more care was taken by your friends in how they presented themselves. LATE EDIT: In fairness, it was pointed out to me that colour is the Discord standard for a new one, but yours is still the same in both as well and you're talking about related subjects.
  12. Well, if you want to talk about it I don't mind being DM'd. I don't really view this as relevant enough to continue in the complaint itself, even if there seems(?) to be an implication I have some ulterior motive to it.
  13. You were far more coherent than the rest of your friends who could only really say "fr" or short sentences. You also managed to hold a decent conversation with Peppermint earlier. I ultimately chose not to discord ban you for that reason even if you had a big part to play in this. That and I'm not exactly eager to perma people. For the future, if you really want to earnestly talk to lore or other people in this community it helps to not join in a dog pile with people that you evidently know, as it only makes you look worse. You joined last November, were a rare presence in January and only returned two months later (on the discord) just to comment on omegaTracing's ban and the lore discord conversation. Returning just because you saw what Zulu posted isn't really being around and that amounts to the bulk of your contributions here at the moment. Your posts become less legible the more petty you make it and the more you shoehorn in that you're studying a law degree or something. It generally helps here to be concise and stick to what's relevant.
  14. OK. So do you actually want this thread archived?
  15. There is pretty much nothing factually incorrect about noticing that you made a funny reaction on Matt's post early in the thread and then getting upset when you got ratio'd soon after. It's because of incidents like that, where people like you will abuse them to make a thread even more of a joke and then act the part of an aggrieved community member when it subsequently backfires. However you try to spin it, that's the hypocrisy that continues to define your posts here. I'm not really sharing this complaint or even talking about it to others as this is just business as usual. Now, the interesting thing to me is that this isn't even the first time you've done this with emotes/reactions whether it's on the forum or on the Discord. Just yesterday even before the incident where you harassed human lore, you and your buddies were also shit-stirring in the maincord. It starts off with you reacting to the ban the way you typically do to Matt's posts (I'm sure you would love it if someone constantly did this to you) along with the other guy who then proceeds to randomly echo your opinion roughly half an hour after it already happened and then another guy who has never really been active in the community posts about it again. Almost all the same people you brought to the lorecord sans the guy who was already banned before, but I'm sure you're going to tell me you just mentioned it in to your group and that these were all purely individual actions that happened to closely resemble each other and do not reflect on you. This is one of the least veiled and most immature attempts at brigading I've seen in a while. Mel didn't deserve what you directed onto her. Matt didn't deserve your continued harassment. Schwan didn't deserve being a random target. The community shouldn't have had to deal with your hostility and constant attempts to make issues where there are none. Harassment however much you feel that it's righteously justified will never be okay. If this is upheld, you are welcome to appeal in the timeframe I specified when you feel you can be trusted to practice more consideration for other people over Discord.
  16. It is actually a little hard for me to believe you're shocked at all that your three buddies ended up reflecting poorly on yourself. Two of them joined at the same time (one is a banned user) and got to work. They made it evident that they know you (how could anyone possibly think you're related?), they made it evident that they knew each other and so all it was really morphing into was you guys just circlejerking and harassing the human lore team. You try to stress that this is wrong and that you're uninvolved because you merely posted the picture that caused them to join in, but that would require a lot of charity on my part to interpret it as such when they joined to start shit, backed each other up and pointed out things to you. Someone more self aware would at least own up to this and acknowledge that maybe their pals weren't right to dogpile and could have at least stopped shitposting if they wanted to be taken seriously, but you just seem to see it as a joke, so it's fine to you. If you view a conversation as pointless, don't join it? That's what I expect. I don't really think I'm wrong in considering you to be OOCly a negative presence. You were supporting a ban evader in what might as well have been an organized harassment campaign against Mel and others. You started the trend of confused/laugh reacting forum posts you disagreed with and then hypocritically got grievously offended when others did the same to you. You've had problems on server which were most evident when you played Mobius in relation to how others thought of the character. You kept finding any opportunity to insert yourself into threads that weren't for you to post in (complaints). This doesn't need to turn into listing every little negative thing you've done, but what struck me the most about everything is that there's little in the way of apology or self-reflection. You push things too far as a "joke" and you only try to take the high road when others do unto you as you do to them. If we are at the point where these post walls mainly consist of your dramatizations, loathing and shitposting I have to wonder why you attempt to remain and fight people. All in all I personally can't say I'm comfortable with allowing you to stay lurking so you can save and post funny pictures to another discord and then have random people join in to post about recent bans or other conversations you're feeding them. If you want to continue with that at least don't shit where you eat.
  17. I really dig the big hallway space personally.
  18. This part is definitely fine as is to me, but if you ever get feedback about it being a problem, I don't think it would be a mapping issue to place glass airlocks on these stairs here to further minimize partial venting. That aside I think the changes have developed this remap into something really interesting now so I do really like it as a roleplay space and somewhere for crew events to take part in. I'd definitely like to see it in action. The only thing I see as an issue is that hydroponics is almost entirely 1 tile walkways which might be annoying if 2 are playing the role at the same time. It could be worth removing a row of trays maybe but I couldn't really say as to how you could add new ones.
  19. I will lift the ban.
  20. To me the only real solution to XO being a superfluous role is either this (formally becoming the 2IC) or cutting the Operations Manager out and returning their duties to the XO. They both overlap a lot and the separation kind of ended up creating two really light-on-duties roles that have people asking why they exist at the moment. The XO at least is still often considered the natural successor to the Captain and de-facto second due to their position on the bridge, which is more than I could say for the OM. Renames wouldn't fix that. I do like the idea of a better chain of command by actually having a clearly denoted second though. I can't really think of many situations where the current "flexible" way amounted to much more than voting on an acting Captain instead of coming together for every decision, or entering a command gridlock where nobody can really agree or figure out what to do. In the situations where there is a Captain, another thing tends to be that heads are more occupied managing their own department and find it hard to collude with each other. Not a problem if the Captain takes an active hand, but if they try to delegate and be hands off I'd frequently see stuff like "Well, I told them to prepare the Intrepid, not sure why it didn't take off for more than an hour." Not really a coincidence then that most events now just directly have people spawn where they need to be. That said, that was just a random example. I know the Intrepid has problems in ease of getting people aboard, although over preparation has always been the main killer.
  21. I have to stand by my first lock of the thread and now the second. This is an aimless thread with people just tearing into each other and complaining about really broad topics or actions taken against them divorced of any further context along with rehashing of what's been put on over three different threads of complaints. It's not serving the intended purpose of what I believe is shining a light on the state of the community or staff. The topic itself isn't really a problem, though. The rehashing of is. A thread on the policy suggestions section as clem said, is the better move.
  22. "Goolies, none of this is about you" summarizes the attitudes here. How can that even be said to be objective and truthful when it was alleged that there must be bias due to our friendship. When you can see on my complaint that there are statements hinting ulterior motives due to Keala's running joke of being friends with the relay mods that often rebuff him. That I wasn't doing my due diligence by not drilling every single name dropped on my lap to see what they think about Keala's behavior. In a paraphrased way, saying things along the lines of "I'm glad Sycmos was fine, but are you telling me Keala wasn't harassing women? Did you talk to x and x?". That there were "evident" issues with Keala, so why didn't I handle it? I had to deal with comments about how I was "winning" and they were "losing" as if this is a game they were playing where I could be fed the right words to let what I'm beginning to believe is OOC harassment continue. In the end I was only handling the one incident and it wasn't relevant to do anything more. Even after revealing to Goolies in my complaint what they have been doing, they're now trying to gaslight him in this one and contradict what they themselves said prior. With Dekser I can sort of feel that they're surprised at how far LordPwner was taking this, but this ultimately ended up being a joint effort.
  23. This post is pretty difficult to parse. I'd recommend you use spoilers and put the pictures you're referring to underneath the points you're making. That out of the way. These are the events from my perspective and I've provided some links on the text you can click on to view images. I look into the Relay. Dekser is potentially OOC in ICing and you are joining them in this. I'm pretty busy and I don't like the way the conversation is going considering you two took it from kind of charged to explosive what with the harassment of women comments among other things. I suspend you two from the relay so it won't get worse and to get me time to look into it later so I can properly talk to people. You snark at me over how long it's taking and don't really have any self awareness of how rude you are. Mel reminds you that I said I'm busy. Pre-emptively, Dekser sends me two weeks of logs of Nalikas allegedly problematic behaviour. Once I actually got to talking to you two, LordPwner also started sending me the same images. Why this was prepared to be sent now rather than far earlier or why you two thought it would change anything. I'm not too sure. The reason why I suspended you was clear enough. That conversation. If you wanted me to comb through the out of context logs I would have done so if it was sent beforehand, not as an excuse. DM conversations happened. I won't cherry-pick out anything else within them as like Dekser said. Things got frustrating and I understand that. We do not need a tit-for-tat exchange. While I repeatedly made it clear your suspensions came from the environment you two were creating. It became clearer this just isn't the "IC issue" it was being claimed to be either. You say so yourself in the complaint that apparently Nalika's behaviour fits the bill and could have been acted on earlier... but you didn't do anything, the person who did not want to be named didn't do anything, Dekser did not do anything. Nobody was reached out to and you didn't even attempt to talk to the player that you two and I assume more people at this point have been piling on the logs about. I don't even think you've talked to many of the people that supposedly take issue with this character either really. That's just disappointing and I don't see how you can say you even tried to follow my advice about pre-emptively going to staff. It's ridiculous to hinge a lot of what you're saying on coincidental stuff that feeds into some possible idea that I'm favoring Goolies's character because we're friends. If I was afraid to do that, I wouldn't stay on staff. It's also ridiculous to act as if I for some reason am out to get you, a person I don't know or really care about. The IC strike that got you bothered was conducted because Bridge Crew are subservient to Command and it's just incredibly unprofessional to complain about the CCIA sending them to training due to that evil Fisanduhian Commander (you managed to bring this up again in the Nalika conversation as well.) I also don't know how you can even say I'm threatening you with a ban to say there won't be any strikes from this point on either. That's just telling you what the score is so there's no surprises in the future. I was initially feeling a ban would be more appropriate for you (LordPwner) but argued myself down to just a strike. Now I just think I shouldn't have tried to excuse your behavior. If the strikes aren't removed I will be advocating for a temporary discord ban on you. While I've tried to handle it to the best of my ability this was also a late night thing for me and Mel was busy too, You can't just get staff on demand. We are people too.
  24. Other than what Sneaky said, I'm not really sure how you can say this when an ahelp can be as simple as... pointing out a BC is not listening so we can look into it. I've always found the time to be able to make a ticket despite playing Command even when I wasn't staff. I know this isn't hard and it did not detain me forever. Given the wiki page on BC's already makes it clear they are subordinate to Command as well and essentially need to be allowed to do anything our minds are also fairly made up on what they can and cannot do and we handle them accordingly. It's still up to you on whether or not you think doing something is worth the effort but I'm going to view it as dishonest if that reason is supposedly anything other than "I don't feel like it". Let's see what it actually says, as you're quoting that out of context. Just another extension of the whole "You serve Command and can expect to help them out" and a note for the no command rounds that essentially states "If Command isn't available you can still make yourself a little useful but you have zero say over what the other departments do."
