The thread has served its purpose and Gem already posted a potential solution. Any further discussion isn't really relevant at this point as it's just repeating earlier posts, in an unfortunately increasingly hostile way. Here's Gem's post for reference.

That happens, though eventually the blob tires out so to speak and you get more hits on the core. It's probably more apparent here though, considering we're in narrower spaces. It definitely helps it goes by faster. In the past and even now, I usually see the pattern of two engineers dealing with it, and then the rest of the department helping with the aftermath if needed. I'll say, generally I tended to have the RFD so the main thing was filling a room afterward. Blobs themselves are unchanged since they were nerfed to be less resistant to burn damage maybe two years ago maybe? Not exactly sure when.

Maybe I should time it, but from my experiences blobs still grow extremely slowly, even slower if there's stuff blocking their way that they have to break through. I frequently destroyed them alone rather easily, since all you have to do is stay at a distance and turn on one emitter. Sometimes two, if I joined into a round where it already grew out of control. It certainly can grow to be a challenge, but it doesn't happen as quick as implied from what I've seen at all, and I frequently staff lowpop rounds. In some circumstances, sure it can take a while to secure a good position for an emitter, but I couldn't really say It's usually time consuming unless there's reinforced walls in the way. The only factually true point here to me is that it needs an engineer to handle it.

I take discriminatory comments extremely seriously. So, I was always going to see if you knew exactly what the issue was and that you were able to describe it to me, in your own words. Doing the equivalent of a nod and simply acknowledging what I'm saying wouldn't have prevented this complaint from happening and the fact that your take-away is "I should lie" is interesting. You all but confirmed to me though, that you either didn't care or were trying to cover for yourself and this complaint only really reinforces it. Here's what caught my eye and what triggered people to ask you in LOOC if you were trying to be offensive or not (you didn't answer, as you didn't even care to reassure anyone). Here is the entire ticket log from start to finish. It was a pretty standard set of events. where you tried to tell me everything was in character but perhaps a little borderline, that the fact that other people were upset, was their problem and not really something to concern yourself with. That me asking you to stop with the transphobic comments meant you have to be polite 24/7 and can't play an "asshole character" at all. The fact that's the conclusion you even jumped to said a lot about you to me. Afterward, you complained on Discord and ended up banned there as well for trying to rehash the ticket. My verdict was that at the worst, you're actually transphobic and looking to reflect your views in-game. At best, you're just incredibly self-centered and uncaring about those around you. Both are reason enough to remove you from the community, permanently. While this was actually a staff complaint, if you ever decide to make an appeal, do not waste the effort. I am never unbanning you.

I have to agree with Ping. I don't really want to have the chance at a merchant every round since they can significantly change the round dynamic through what they sell.

DanseMacabre's Human Lore Deputy Application
WickedCybs replied to Kintsugi's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Danse has a lot of contributions to the server, from lore additions, volunteering, PR's and a lot of other stuff. I think It's a pretty significant edge over anyone else when it comes to the position and already shows the drive and dedication he would have for the position being applied for, certainly. Things would have definitely been worse off without him too, as I think It's fair to say a lot of these contributions ended up being fairly important to the lore overall, such as Visegrad becoming the first (and pretty much only) proper planet in the wildlands that's affected by those circumstances and controlled by a warlord or the third party ships likely not being used to the extent they are now without his contributions to get the ball going. He has an understanding of the lore, a solid vision of what he wants to do. Some of that stuff, I don't care for but overall It's good. Considering all he's done as just a member of the community, I would be interested to see how that changes as a member of staff. -
Points one and two are the biggest thing I think. I of course mean no offense at all here. The map though, it was definitely too simple and undeveloped for what the event was, making roleplay harder and things just a lot harder than it had to be. Two tile wide hallways aren't conductive to getting things going, but that's a commonly acknowledged point already. I believe It's totally fair. It's a key aspect of the event in the end, even if the map is a one-off we are having people in it. Why would it not be held to the same standards as the Horizon or anything else? I don't really think we've had one like this before, where it was just a series of hallways with some rooms from other maps put in. It didn't seem like much of a station, just a more artificial setpiece that wasn't designed for what was happening in it. Considering these events are usually prepared for a while in advance, I don't think It's a bad idea to pour effort into them, even a lot of effort. Which isn't to say the event map used for this event didn't have effort put in, I'm only saying It's not a bad thing to pour effort into these overall. As someone who does map as well, it definitely could have been different and it would have been better for it. if places like the Golden Deep's hotel, the Casino, the beach or the Clandestine had the same issues, I don't think people would have talked about them as much as they did. The map is extremely important to any event.

Axing Tajara/Unathi footwear and glove restrictions
WickedCybs replied to wowzewow's topic in Archive
It's a little hard to imagine an Unathi or Tajara could wear just any pair of shoes/boots found in game because their anatomy is just too different for that to work. On Tajara that's usually represented by their footwear sprites losing a pixel near the heel. Unathi are digitigrade too, though their sprites aren't any different in game other than their stuff typically being toeless because their claws are way more pronounced overall, just look at this. Gloves are an easier sell I think and more mechanically important, so I think that would be more worthwhile to lose if it had to be done. I do like that some of the alien races need these accommodations because it sells the fact that they're different. I don't really see it as being "resolved" by the loadout because why wouldn't you bring your gloves and footwear that works with you to the shift? It mainly affects what you can use in-round but that's only ever really been important for engineering and medical. I'm not too attached to the restrictions in the end though. Those are just the reasons I think they could still have a place. If it goes away, will probably need to give it slightly unique sprites for tajara/unathi though to keep appearances consistent for them. -
Temporary memory removal should not be the most important part of your proposal and I simply can't support this at all due to that. I would not want my round effectively griefed by being targeted with an item that has no organic equivalent in this case, because the parapen doesn't do that. The only memory removing thing in the game comes from a voluntary augment or the vamp drain, and the vamp drain is already contentious as many don't find the memory removal interesting. Just having a parapen-esque long stun might be fine, though that's still not particularly enjoyable. For the rest, due to the binary nature of IPCs, I don't really think the rest of your proposal will accomplish your goal as well. Rapid battery reduction can be hard to notice until it's too late, and you are either powered or you aren't. If you become unpowered, you're at the mercy of an antagonist and that's that. These tools won't be used to temporarily bypass an IPC. It'll just be used to destroy them with no resistance and round remove them in other ways as is already done with EMPs. Harm batonning also apparently already removes battery rapidly, so the uplink so could just get a stun baton added if it has none already. What IPCs really need is a rework so they aren't the equivalent of walking terminators a plan needs to hinge on removing. It has to be remembered that they feel no pain, they don't slow down after taking damage, their limbs are hard to hit and even if they are damaged, that don't contribute to the shut-off state (only torso and head damage do) plus the limbs don't even break, they malfunction depending on the amount of damage and that means if the IPC is combative, it will never stop resisting until it is taken offline or stunned. With that in consideration, I don't think it matters if a machinist is on or that an IPC is "round removed". People playing the organic races can't be brought back at all, that IPCs can even come back into the round is a luxury and they rarely pay for the consequences of their damages as is. Despite any additions to mitigate it, IPCs are pretty much always going to be able to walk up to an antag and annihilate them. If they actually bite off more than they can chew and don't retreat? That's on them. They should be more cautious without a machinist on.

I've always wanted this and don't really see it as much of an issue if the Horizon was to become more maneuverable.

[Resolved] Player Complaint - 7/24 5:45-8:30pm EST
WickedCybs replied to SinfulBehaviors's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I'll definitely make sure to take a look at exactly what was said. Assuming things stay on track, my next post will be on Sunday. EDIT: It'll be a little later, but not too long hopefully. -
It's under deck one, but it's best not to think of how exactly that would look considering the Horizon pictures we have. They were probably made back when the idea of crew quarters weren't even finalized. It pretty much has 0 representation and if you blew up a bomb it would lead to space rather than the res deck.

[Resolved] Player Complaint - 7/24 5:45-8:30pm EST
WickedCybs replied to SinfulBehaviors's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
It's just what I saw. It was enough to matter. People were clamoring for something to be done. In the end, you were the only member of command, someone died and the blame became divided between you and security. A death is still a death even if you apologize. I get how it feels like there's nothing you could have done but there was nothing unexpected there to me from how everyone ICly responded. You are going to be held responsible. They did hold you responsible. You are the sole member of command. The crew is unruly and blaming security, who firmly believe there might be retaliation against them. You came in at the wrong time, when that reality became manifest and they felt, perhaps justifiably so or not that you were not listening and that you were the cause behind the whole mess to begin with. The crew in general eventually came around to this line of thought too. I can certainly see why, it was a combination of the delays, reactions, consequences. Nobody helped you, since things became extremely antagonistic at that point. I understand that. You were on trial. You were the only member of Command. I've had rounds like this too, and It's frustrating but the tone of a round potentially going against you is something that can always happen. Mistakes or not, everyone responded in character from what I can tell. Nobody belittled you in DCHAT or in LOOC. There wasn't even any bad blood between the crew and sec OOCly from what I can tell despite it even resulting in the machinist getting hit with buckshot. I don't have any reason to think anyone intentionally wanted to hurt you or each other OOCly. Security and Command are always going to be under the magnifying glass. They may not have had the full picture, but they will examine what you've done regardless. So in conclusion, I don't believe the overall situation was going against any sort of rule. The main thing I'll be looking at is exactly how the in-round issues were voiced to you and whether or not it could have been done better. -
[Resolved] Player Complaint - 7/24 5:45-8:30pm EST
WickedCybs replied to SinfulBehaviors's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I'll be the main handler of this complaint. @Faris is assisting. From what I recall, the main reason security was ICly upset isn't specifically that weapons were delayed, it was that you being late (by roughly 20 minutes was repeated) caused a few people to die due to a lack of those weapons. I can't say it isn't understandable they would carry that with them throughout the entire round. It's not something you can expect anyone to get over, It put you in the crosshairs of security and the delay put security in the crosshairs of the crew over those deaths to the point where things like the roboticist rushing an officer to disarm them or an engineer stealing a pistol and drawing it on security happened. For them, you were late every time and it led to serious concerns the crew might end up attacking them. In this regard, I think the why behind why you weren't treated well in the round checks out. With that in mind, I'll be focusing on the how exactly they treated you. I'll be looking through the logs either way, but to better pinpoint things for me, do you have anything else that comes to mind of something particularly bad that was said, or would you say it was overall, their actions throughout the entire round? -

My reasoning in your appeal speaks for itself I think, so I'll refrain from anything more unless asked. -
Alexanderself1 Unban Request *3*
WickedCybs replied to Alexanderself1's topic in Unban Requests Archive
I did ask you to give a better explanation and I can't say I was entirely convinced. This appeal is also not your first. That you've even done multiple rather than pursue staff complaints should be because you agreed with your past judgements, so why would I believe there's always been a series of misunderstandings or that what happened wasn't quite the same when it was essentially a repeat? Even if I was convinced, the issue is that you keep getting spoken to and banned due to this. It can't keep happening again and again over another series of unfortunate events. So, if you want your antag ban lifted I again, need you to tell me what you can do better one month from now. I've already given you short snippets of what might be good to consider, like disconnecting right after you cryo if you imply a great urgency to us instead of casually chatting in dchat about the round. You should realize how what you do looks especially given your history. I wouldn't have even cared if you just said you were done and gave a reason, cryoed and then chatted but you ended up doing it in a way that was too flagrant to ignore. Now, if you can't provide an outline to me on how we can prevent anymore misunderstandings, or if you just don't think It's necessary due to your outside factors then I have to tell you, you're not getting the antagonist ban lifted. It's a big problem for any important role to have someone consistently drop out whatever the reason. Think of what you can do differently. In that case, please ask another member of staff on the list that's online, they can let me know you're looking for me. That aside, your fourm message was read and was taken into account when it came to my replies here, which I consider response enough. I can send you a message in there still if there's any confusion over how it was relevant to the complaint but I won't be doing a back-and-forth discussion. The appeal is denied. You can make another no sooner than August 19 of this year and it should have your have your outline of what you're going to do differently. -
Alexanderself1 Unban Request *3*
WickedCybs replied to Alexanderself1's topic in Unban Requests Archive
The justifications behind why you had to leave and why you were in dchat just aren't relevant now. It's happened too much (and only when you're antagging) to the point and I can't just dismiss this by giving you the benefit of the doubt. So please answer what I asked you in my last post. What are you going to do differently so something like this does not happen again if I was to lift the antag ban? Be cognizant of the fact that there's a variety of people in staff, and we're going off of your past actions here. -
Alexanderself1 Unban Request *3*
WickedCybs replied to Alexanderself1's topic in Unban Requests Archive
The most important place you can "prove" anything would be when logged into the server, where you can give me the details in our tickets. Secondary would be discord if It's truly pressing, not being able to message me there is no excuse considering I can be pinged on the main server if It's particularly important. Now, during the round you ahelped that you'd have to go quickly, within ten minutes without much of an explanation. This was fine to me, we get a lot of tickets like this from antags. Roughly that much time passes and you cryo. Afterward you spend some time in dchat chatting about security that round, how you'd never be found out, among other things. I noticed this and questioned you on it. You only told me that your friend needed to do something with cologne and then disconnected during the ticket. Afterward I reviewed why you've been warned and banned before in the past and this ended up being unfortunately similar, down to a short explanation before a prompt disconnect. So that's why I decided to go forward with the ban. This won't be lifted right this moment, but if you can give me a small explanation as to how we can avoid this happening again. It could be something along the lines of being more detailed, not spending more time than needed on the server once you already say you're leaving urgently. Up to you. -
That's not really something that's common. Mining was never consistently "escorted" on bay, that would defeat the purpose of the job and annoy people. They didn't have any KAs too, but what they did have were better medical supplies in order to survive dangers if they found them. It wouldn't always be enough, but they also aren't facing the same asteroid generation and mobs due to there being more than just asteroids to visit.
-
I agree, it's rather misleading and can give the idea that the server is empty despite having pop.
-
I think it would help if the Research EVA room in particular was transformed into an EVA expedition prep area (rather than the research EVA area that it is now) that has extra GPS units and more material that would be useful to the expedition. This would be far more useful to Research as well honestly. I might do this myself, later. . We could also really use a generic voidsuit for expedition teams and one for the bridge crew since that ends up being an oddly time consuming bit of prep at times for those not in a department with their own suits or one not at liberty to give away too many.
-
I'd recommend trying engineering in order to get a feel for things mechanically, because a bigpart of it is messing with the game map and fixing/improving/adding stuff. It'll also give a better understanding of power and atmos. Most away sites that aren't asteroid/planet ruins (though even some of those can use it) benefit from having a functioning power/atmos system.

Scarab Fixes(Warlord-b-gone!)
WickedCybs replied to ImmortalRedshirt's topic in Lore Canonization Applications Archive
I think even if Iraiya was changed, outsiders or even those within the fleet shouldn't know where she stands or how reluctant she may be. She did after all act as the spokesperson for the Coalition military deterrent to Sol and made good on it by joining the conflict in KOTW. I don't think her added details makes her seem like someone willing or able to risk anything. I don't have much of a stake in them being or not being likely to wage war other than that. I do agree stuff like them wanting to go back to earth and unify all of humanity (or at least the offworlders) was silly and at odds with their nature. -
Not in support of this when it comes to artifacts. At best maybe "silly" ones could be removed but I don't really think any of them are that bad if handled well. Golems, I don't care about and they're just another aspect of xenobiology rather than its entire thing. Arguing from the point that it could still exist, but remain non-canon is essentially the same as a removal in that it would invalidate an entire role. People are supposed to talk about their experiences here. If we still had expeditions in a state of "didn't really happen" like Aurora's expeditions used to be as an example, nobody would really go on them.

The loadout could use a better pair of recolourable pants. At the moment, it's very uniform compared to the more detailed looking pants of any outfit a job can spawn with. Leads me to another thing, since I was trying to replicate the old style of the PMCG. I think the PMCG needs their old default uniform back or at least back as an additional option. At the moment, the new one is an EPMC uniform palette swap down to the colours which are are actually identical on their pants. I'm not a huge fan and I think the old colour palette was better. It's hard to really "fit" things to the current one which also makes it a bit hard to come up with something consistent out of the loadout to match it to. Here's a comparison of the current EPMCs, and PMCG. Then, this was the original PMCG uniform, if anyone didn't see it prior.
