  1. Popping, locking, archiving, all that business.
  2. I do not really have any doubts about your ability to do wiki editing. You seem very capable in that regard with an impressive history and experience, even past the point of it being a personal hobby, which is highly applaudable in its own right. However, I believe the propensity for being argumentative in an unproductive way (IE getting involved in a debate and then not ducking out or summarizing when appropriate) remains a significant hurdle for your qualifications for the position. I've observed in the past that conversations start civil, yet they can become emotionally charged later on from your side of things. There does not seem to be any recognition of when to step away from an argument or ask for help from administration either. This extends out past more than one or two isolated incidents, and on top of that, I feel there are also some other signs of not having good communication skills. Overall, I cannot support this application.
  3. I am declining this addition as I will be changing the Grim Compact already, and it does not mesh with the vision I have in mind for it.
  4. I like your answers, and your characters all have distinct impressions on me. Given your discussions on the lore outside of this, your capacity of RP, and the quality of the application, I will be accepting this application. Feel free to send any questions you have to my deputies and I.
  5. I cannot believe she actually applied. Besides what Gecko asked, I only have a few questions. 1. What baggage does Azerzku carry from the Contact War? 2. How do they view honor if they are no longer a warrior?
  6. Assault in New Skalamar: Terrorism Against Hephaestus! Earlier this morning, the majority of a troop of bodyguards as well as the focus of protection, Hephaestus Industries representative Lux Richard, were shot down in their hovercar and assaulted in the middle of New Skalamar. Sources say laser fire broke out between the guards and a rogue group, primarily Unathi and humans, tossed explosives and shot from nearby buildings to dishonorably kill the unprepared bodyguards. Before Lux Richard could be seen or this bandit group could do further damage, local Watchmen arrived at the scene and quelled the chaos. As the terrorists fled, two of the corpses revealed interesting information. Biopsies performed by a Medical Acolyte of the Healer, in tandem with a biomechanical engineer, found that the human and Unathi were outfitted with unregistered, altered Hephaestus prostheses and augments. No doubt the work of fiendish heathens. Shocked by the revelation, a citywide state of emergency has been declared by City Lord R'tiza Eyinz'k after such a brazen attack has been performed by none other than Aut'akh. Watchmen are being ordered to enforce curfew during local daylight hours, and any display of weapons of a person not belonging to the nobility, Watchmen, or Saa’Izweski will result in apprehension, questioning, and further potential action against them. Lux Richard gave brief comments on their attack: The Hephaestus Industries representative and long-time worker of the company said he will be utilizing the great benefits of his tenure to go on a sudden leave to relax with his family. He declined any questions at this time.
  7. Whitelists would be a lore thing to talk over, as a note, and wouldn't be relevant here (if you want maximum discourse though, make a suggestion thread)
  8. Is this for people who haven't played in a year in general, or people who haven't played command in a year? Otherwise, I'm all for this.
  9. Pretty easy application in my mind. All of your characters I remember visibly in my mind despite only talking with some of them once, and I do not really have any doubts on your ability to roleplay and live up to the species standard. Application accepted. Feel free to reach out to my deputies and I with any questions you may have.
  10. Hephaestus Industries Tackling Overpopulation! A major reason for Ouerea’s prolonged growth and prosperity, Hephaestus Industries announced an initiative that, should the Overlord of Ouerea Tarkart Yiztek and the democratic Synod of Scales agree, will allow the corporation to build over the underbellies of major city centers across the budding planet. Dubbed the “Cornerstone Project,” Hephaestus aims to set the foundation of cities as new shops, housing, and recreational facilities for species and activities that don’t necessarily need daylight to operate, such as virtual reality arcades, indoor sports, and space for K’lax, industry-owned robots, and their maintenance and living needs. To get the space cleared, Hephaestus is offering to hire and relocate the denizens under each city to move them to company towns to mine, chop trees, or otherwise perform labor for the company. Existing tenants would otherwise be merely evicted under the current plans for this new directive.
  11. Ouerea Overcrowding Amidst Declining Population? The yearly census of Ouerea by the nobility have concluded that the official number of residents has gone down. Despite the overwhelming growth of central areas of urban residence, this is the second year by official measures that the population appears to be shrinking. Life on the city surface, however, tells a different story. Overcrowding in the lower levels of the city has increased over the last few years, local inhabitants claim. Prices for renting basic cubicles have gone up despite quality taking a drastic downturn. Sundries, by other interviews, have claimed a great increase in profits and new, regular customers becoming more frequent. Statistics provided by liaisons on behalf of the Izweski Hegemony have also provided some interesting news: an almost exponential growth in immigration to Ouerea since its colonization premiere date. Despite the population going down, more people are moving in— and more of them are flocking to the lower levels of its metropolitan cities. Registered largely among these immigrants are Unathi lacking strong affiliations with the Izweski, typically traditionalists with outdated citizenship identification. However, there have been notable increases in other species as well. City Lord R'tiza Eyinz'k gave a comment regarding how they will handle the growing underbelly of Ouerea: The Eyinz’k clan has deployed Watchmen to enforce an expanded census and registration process, the revised results of which are projected to be seen by the beginning of Kasavakh.
  12. I think there could be more diversity in languages, but as it stands, besides a tongue for Elyra, I don't really see any more human languages getting added. I'm not opposed to adding more in the future, so I guess it comes down to a case by case basis. There are so many humans on station that I could reasonably see there be more diversity to them. I think tajara have like, what five or six? So I could see adding a couple more for humans given they have four currently (Tradeband, Freespeak, SolCom, Freespeak I think?) and have one on the way, and they are the most played race. I also currently think most of the species don't intend on adding more languages for the time being either. I wouldn't mind easing up on TCB being a requirement and instead using translators, but I don't think that might be feasible from a developer standpoint, so currently I feel it may be best to keep it as is. Maybe some stipulation that, should something like Canon's proposal get accepted, full understanding and no speaking is fine should they be able to nod and write back if needed (for jobs without disability restrictions). Again, language availability I would like to see made more available like in Canon's proposal, but unless the system changes, I think things are pretty alright how they are.
  13. I remember saying something like this to Cael before, back when he was the skrell maintainer. I was discussing against adding too much depth to the skrell planets (giving them a bunch of divvied up territories and such like how it's done on Adhomai) because each tajaran region is the equivalent of a human planet; the only difference is population and scope. For example, each planet within Dominia can be counted as a "region," with Moroz being split into two notable regions, as each planet has the same intended development. Putting every planet on par with Adhomai wouldn't be a great way to do things: the setting is more like Star Wars in this regard. And before people whine and moan about the Star Wars comparison in sci-fi, it's largely true. 99% of the planets in Star Wars have surface level development because there are literally thousands of them. While the two settings vary greatly, our planets manage to have around the same and sometimes more depth because our setting is greatly smaller in scope (and maybe with less writers at any given point in time). We should stop comparing human lore to the rest of species lore, honestly.
  14. All things considered, there wasn't a twenty-message back and forth, so I wouldn't see it as hijacking. The breakdown of pages to maintain by system/planet is extremely misleading. By this measure, anyone would wonder why we have three people on a team dedicated to three planets when there are three times as many planets named in Sol alone; it is with a closer look under the hood that someone would notice that tajara, skrell, and unathi each have around 20 pages to maintain and put lore into, a lot of which are some of the longest pages on the wiki. With the Elyra work on the horizon (and I've gotten to help proofread some of it, it is quite thorough and well done), human lore is about to hit a point where they are starting to go after smaller fish to fry. They've worked on Dominia and Elyra to great degree; the megacorps and the Republic of Biesel are being worked by the greater team's contributions and coordination; Earth and the timeline of humanity was also brought in line with the current state of lore too. I reiterate my point from before that we don't have to go back and keep reworking things if the lore is all made consistent. The human team has done a fantastic job and I hope that I can continue to help them with their efforts should they need it. I honestly don't really know where these numbers are coming from, but for the most part (or perhaps even entirely), all of the locations in human lore fall under an existing factions. I think it's safe to say that things be considered "old lore" when it hasn't been touched up in a while in comparison to the rest of the lore. This can come from either content size or inconsistency with the rest of the written lore. Pages don't really decay, they're a test of time to what was written before, after all. I think Elyra is a good example; it's clear that it's current state hasn't been added to in a while because the content size is much smaller than the rest of the lore. If there were no reworks or major tweaks to the lore, then writing lore would just be about making sure to update the different factions equally rather than writing a bunch of lore for Sol, for example. And to this degree, I think that this is very doable. I'm going to cherry pick some other ideas to respond to before going on to Matt's question. Lucaken is correct here: not all reworks are of the same quality. When I overhauled Th'akh and Aut'akh, there was very little criticism I received from it (besides "remove Aut'akh entirely lol" and "I miss old Aut'akh"). Our community also has the benefit of being pretty thoughtful, and the current atmosphere around lore encourages constructive talking about the lore and how it can be better. There will always be small fish to fry that we may miss or otherwise have the power of hindsight to want to fix later, but I don't think what the human team has done in the past two years will be quickly thrown out the window. The biggest thing that species besides humans have going for them is a more detailed narrative that is smaller in scope. The actions of their countries won't be felt across the Spur most of the time, but it gives writers the chance to stick to overarching themes and ideas due to less content to write for. Skrell and unathi have adapted to hardship; vaurca and synths struggle with their own rights; tajara are fighting for what they believe in. Human lore is a realm unto itself that needs its own policies and strategy. The moratorium on new planets is a good measure, and otherwise, I think leaving small details for the playerbase to headcanon regarding what happens on specific planets in a faction is more appropriate to leave the team to write for the important, overarching ideas for each faction. To touch on this somewhat, perhaps Lucaken and I differ here; I want to be there to offer my help, whether to proofread, offer or build on ideas, or help round out efforts when it comes to writing lore. I want to be involved with the teams and engage with them so I remain up to date on as much of the new happenings as possible and be knowledgeable about them. Otherwise, I do think it's important that I'm not striking down every little idea that comes to the table with the lore. The teams should largely be autonomous, and while I would enjoy being able to help edit drafts, they should be able to stand on their own for most of their work. Probably could have worded what I said better. I don't want to write relations for every single country and species— that's tedious and not useful most of the time. I used the C'thur and dionae example because they both inhabit the Jargon Federation primarily, but from what I recall, there isn't much on the wiki about how they both interact. There are a couple other sections of the lore that do this where there is surprisingly little on relations between groups. These could be added to the wiki in the form of putting relations on faction pages for its own header. It's not a huge task, but it's a small one that can make the setting feel more entwined together.
  15. I've had the pleasure of maturing alongside Faye in the community and enjoying jokes, conversations, and quality time with her. I definitely think she has the mettle for the position, and I've noticed too a lot of feedback mentioned on the last app has been put into practice. While I can't say we talk every day or are close friends, I nonetheless am happy to interact with her or see her pop up, and I would definitely trust her to take my ahelp. The amount of times I've seen her handle a conversation with a stern hand and grace afterwards is impressive! Anyway, enough gushing. Taking ahelps means sometimes giving people you dislike a fair shot, for whatever reason you may dislike them. Have you considered that this position means being open and accessible to everyone? Do you have any methods of dealing with or recognizing bias? Good luck, Faye.
  16. This is a misnomer. We have the Sol Alliance, Republic of Biesel, Elyra, CoC, and Dominia. Five major players in the spur. To note, this is not nearly as many as your post is describing. Most of this can be accredited to being wrongly defined (Solarian warlord factions are, for example, not meant to be represented on station or be long-term). Regardless, human lore is still the largest sect of lore. I would like to offer my help in "picking up the slack" so to speak; human lore has been working very hard and it is inspiring to see, and I would like to help round out their efforts as a deputy loremaster. There is already a moratorium on making new planets and factions, so there is not really a need to say "stop making new stuff." The ruling is already in place. Lastly, I will say that human lore has the feel of being bogged down because they are trying to play catchup; this won't be a consistent issue for years to come if lore writers keep building on the foundation that is there. There won't be a need to rewrite things in the future again if we continue to do quality work, so with that, I'd say that this maintenance is a phase rather than a perpetual cycle. The best thing anyone can do is work with the team to help them perform this maintenance so there isn't a need to go back and fix major inconsistencies, only worry about small ones and additional writing for our factions and planets.
  17. There are some good points made, but my concerns still stand. Your presence on lore is not really felt outside of group projects that Kyres and Cael led/lead, so I don't know how comfortable I am with leading the charge on getting other teams to fix anything within their lore, when I haven't seen much of your opinions on the various states of the lore, if that makes sense. There is also the finer point of: if you want to fix more generalized things in the lore, why not make submissions in the past for some of the topics you mentioned? Tajara lore has some of the most well put together species lore, so there would have been more opportunity afforded to fixing the extranet, for example. There is much more to contributing than writing. Editing, giving opinions, and discussing things with teams can help spur discussion and improve the final product. Additionally, lore writers are already expected to write outside of their species for group projects delegated by lore masters now and of the past. Finally, you put in your support for Alb's plan, but it explicitly talks about assigning projects to lore writers to get them out of their comfort zone. Is it not fair to then ask why Alb has not done the same? Anyway, these are all the concerns I have to put. Good luck with the application, Alb.
  18. I'm not going to beat a dead horse here with some of the points brought up. I agree that the hat trick of staff positions might be too much time, especially considering how many active devs we have. To bring up a new point, a concern is that, when it comes to the lore team as a whole, there are hardly any contributions or help offered to other species teams— there isn't much of a team player attitude. Additionally, outside of group projects where everyone is delegated a part to write, your contributions tend to stick solely to tajara-related lore and pushes its narratives. For King of the World, you added a tajaran insurgent group. For the PMCG, a tajaran subsidiary was made. For Biesel politics, a tajaran party was created. Based on these two facets, on top of the consolidation of power and the other positions you have, I don't know if I am comfortable with you in the position of deputy lore master.
  19. To add onto this, it would be neat if individual languages could have individual accents to them that display for when you speak certain languages. For example, a skrell could have Traverse Nral'malic (if I even spelled that correctly), Europan Sol Common, Solarian TCB, and Solarian Sign Language. Unsure if that's a feasible coding suggestion, but would reflect on characters better than a unathi having a Wastelander accent through TCB, Azaziba, and Freespeak, or something.
  20. Your application is solid, you answered your questions with grace, and people have vouched for you. I do not think I could deny you otherwise! Your application is accepted. Do not hesitate to DM my deputies and I with any questions you may have.
  21. Great answers to your questions. Your application is accepted; thanks for your time and patience. If you have any further questions, feel free to DM my deputies and I about it.
  22. Hello! Thanks for the application. Ideally, I will be able to put questions up tomorrow (later today technically) and make a decision the next day, but my work schedule is hectic so there might be a delay until after Christmas for reading through this app thoroughly and making a decision. Some brief questions: Why did Vark convert to Si'akh? It is probably the most radical jump to go from Th'akh to Si'akh (barring Sk'akh to Aut'akh): what was the most appealing aspect(s)? What are some of his hobbies Vark developed on Moghes, and what are some new hobbies he has picked up since leaving Moghes?
  23. Heya! - Planning events can take a lot of work, but even something small can spice up a round for the day. I think running things like TCFL drives, Ceres' Lance visits, embassies boarding the station from various countries, or perhaps a canon hostile presence comes aboard: minor events can be more easily devised. Ideally, I would like to encourage more staff and even players to submit event ideas to be approved and ran with them, so that way there is more to shakeup the current monotony of how rounds play out. - Are you referring to Ouerea here? Currently, my plan for Ouerea is to actually incorporate lore from nearly every species. There is justification for all but tajara on the planet, so I look forward to making it a team project for the lore. I already have some ideas as for the themes, and that will make gathering contributions easier as well. I also let everyone know on the lore team know that I am interested in collecting these contributions in the future, so it does not blindside them when I do begin on it. - The foundations for this already exist, I would say. Einstein and Sol. Zeng-Hu and Jargon. Hephaestus and Izweski. NanoTrasen and the PRA. Vaurca are already tied to various corporations as well, and IPCs play important yet different roles in many if not all of the corps. It is more about building on existing relationships and strengthening them.
  24. Does this mean Glorsh got things from the future? 🧐
  25. Speaking TCB well enough to easily communicate ideas is required to work on the station AFAIK. This of course assumes your character does not have a relevant disability, like being mute. This suggestion looks good. It would be a good chance for us to also reexamine what species get what languages and perhaps add more in.
