  1. It was a mistaken judgement that I needed to fix the foundation here before building on it. Rather than putting out fires as I go, instead focusing on putting out the whole fire first. I realized in hindsight that wasn't exactly a great idea. There are a couple of articles I've been sitting on because I felt like I had more I should fix before releasing them. It's also my belief that other teams feel similarly about this. It could be the same reason why there aren't many updates from the human and dionae teams too for example, but I don't want to put words in their mouth. Most of lore just feels very focused on a season of internal consistency right now. To clarify, Alb looked like he was talking about my frequency of creating lore. I'm still around on the lore and staff servers often and read the chats, reply to pings in a timely manner, the whole nine yards. So I am still around if people need me to ask questions and such.
  2. Ckey/BYOND Username: Haydizzle Position Being Applied For: Deputy Loremaster Have you read the Lore Team Rules and Regulations wiki page?: Most certainly! Past Experiences/Knowledge: My last year and a half as a deputy-then-developer for unathi; a strong collegiate background in communication and writing; relevant for this position, being a shift leader and running a floor of anywhere up to a dozen people at a time, coordinating meetings with my supervisors, and helping vet new hires, roughly two years doing all that. Examples of Past Work: My work is documented on the Aurora lore Discord! Most notably besides that, I have authored the Aut'akh rework and additions, added and contributed to the Izweski Nation page with DeadLantern, added Dominian unathi content, revamped the Th'akh religion fully, added verbiage and slang for the species, and various other additions and edits. A full history can be found in the lore Discord announcements channel. A brief note (such as a roadmap with additional descriptions) identifying the course and creative direction that you'd hopefully like to pursue: I would ideally like to do three things: - Expand on interspecies/national relationships; - Make species more prominent in setting, ideally through marriage with megacorps; and - Increase the number of canon events held in round. Regarding the first: species relations are important! Every species exists in the same space, yet how the C'thur hive views dionae is not something readily expanded on. Similarly, where the lore could very much intersect and collaborate, areas remain and feel too separate. I'd like to explore where this could be developed. Regarding the second: a strengthening of countries by tying themselves more to a megacorporation would help give them a leg up in the Spur and increase their relevance to the setting as a whole. Going to Adhomai would be interesting, but the premise is bolstered if there is something NT needs our characters to do for them at one of their outposts there. Similarly, there is more OOC interest as anything that benefits the country would benefit the megacorp, as well as the opposite being true, so some people may watch to see if a megacorp becomes screwed over in some way. There is more promise in benefiting both parties by developing these bonds. Regarding the third: I touched off on this in my last application. Read about it there! Criticism of the current state of lore: Currently, the lore feels stagnated. Not in the sense that there is no development, but instead that there are no events for characters to get passionate about. I have realized the biggest mistake in my career as a unathi maintainer is not doing more to give the species current topics to talk about over the last year. Exciting developments can inspire, and it is hard to call a development exciting if it is not a present change, but rather a retcon. I also think this ties back to hosting more events; we should push out more articles and events for people to discuss and utilize themselves. What you believe you can bring to the team as Deputy Loremaster: I think my best asset is the ability to think critically and make tough calls. Ideally, I like to be gentle with making a choice, but I am not afraid to be firm with a decision either. I have a very technical background in writing and journalism that I have brought to the table in the past: most notably, editing Schwann's work (mister post-collegiate level writing, which I say in friendly banter as he has called me 'undergraduate' in the past); helping with the speech in the post-Mars destruction article and proofing KotW articles; helping edit other projects wherever asked. I would like to offer this to the team as a whole should they want another pair of eyes for any missed misspellings and syntax errors. Additional comments: I applied for this position before! I was brief here to avoid rehashing everything there. You can find the previous application and more of my elaborated thoughts here: If anyone from the last application has new commentary or feel their opinion on me has changed, please do comment below!
  3. I will be """denying""" this application. I say this in the sense that the main goal of what you were trying to do with this application (create a culture around sports) will not be implemented. I do think some flashy sports for Ouerea would serve well however, so I will likely be drawing on this submission in that regard. Application closed.
  4. Thank you for applying! I and the staff team feel that, while not perfect, your application shows promise and that you would make for a fine deputy. I will go over the particulars with you in private. Welcome aboard. This application is accepted.
  5. Thanks for applying! You are insanely talented when it comes to hitting the drawing board and generating ideas. Brotendo, Coalf, and Desven come to mind in this regard. You also (ostensibly) have experience with both the genre for which we write as well as interacting with the lore. However, I must deny this application for a few reasons. One is that, as stated by others and now myself, it is felt that the direction the lore is heading does not match your visions for it. We simply would run into too many differences of direction when it came to a road map. Another reason is I am wanting to give other people chances to impact the lore. You got to spearhead and build the foundation for almost every species; I want to give fresh blood a chance to inject their own ideas, sprinkle their own seasonings, add their own mix to the universe we play in. Additionally, your conduct and lasting impression on the staff team was a mixed bag. Finally, and this one is more personal, I feel it would be incredibly awkward to have to discuss potential changes or new arcs as the boss of the person who wrote the lore rather than the other way around. Nonetheless, my gratitude for applying and sitting through the slew of questions and commentary from other people. This application is closed.
  6. I just want some good Aemaq lore
  7. Canon: Canon Event Type: Visit, Celebration Event Scale: Small Assigned Admin: Arrow768 OOC Event Description: The bazaars of Moghes come to Aurora! Festivities are commenced by Unathi merchants docking with shamans Who knows about it: Everyone is aware there will be a celebration of some kind happening. Host/participants: Haydizzle Notes: no violence is planned.
  8. Following the wishes of the applicant, this application is being closed. I'm available for any questions.
  9. As an addendum, please keep things civil here. If people end up being hostile with their posts and replies, I will ask an admin to delete or hide it. Anyone reading this thread if free to come to me as well if they have any concerns.
  10. It doesn't need to go through the lore canonization process, no. Any submissions tied to a deputy application do not necessarily need to be in the pipeline or even planned to be added to the wiki (if you do not want to submit it if your application is denied, for example), just proof of concept of ideas.
  11. The wheels of fate turn under the rivers of time, and unfortunately, sometimes the monotony of the motions can be deceptive to how quickly time is passing. Sorry for the late reply, your application is accepted. Feel free to shoot my deputies and I any questions you have, our DMs are open.
  12. You are definitely a great roleplayer and take into account a lot of aspects of unathi lore for your characters, so in my mind, I have no doubts about you there. However, a whitelist application also serves as a means to convey your understanding of the lore and what you can do with it. I have a couple of questions regarding your character: 1) Why is Yeqol a strong follower of the Qeblak faith? This implies that they are very devout to the religion's ideals and tenets: which ones appeal to them? Are there any aspects they disagree with? If not, how does their faith impose a challenge in a multicultural workplace? 2) How does Yeqol's colleagues and peers view their job as a drill technician? 3) How does Yeqol view the Federation as a whole? How do they feel about the refugees in Biesel?
  13. Thank you again for the time you put into the application. You have a good understanding of the timeline of events, the mindset of Unathi, and gave fitting answers to the questions. However, my team and I feel the themes of the species are properly grasped. One important example is that you consistently refer to Dorviza as "they"— not that this in and of itself is an issue, but you barely touch on Th'akh, the religion that such notion of gender comes from, or any underlying reason for why they identify this way in the application or questions. You mention that they are traditional and what the wiki says this means and is like for sinta, but conversely, you do not take it and make it your own. What does being traditional mean for Dorviza? I am denying this application. You can reapply in a little less than a week due to my slow replies in processing this application. I strongly encourage you to do so again as I think you are capable of getting this whitelist on the second go. Additionally, my deputies and I are more than happy to answer any questions you have and give you some guidance, should you feel stuck at any point.
  14. My team and I enjoy your application and answers to your questions! Application accepted. Please reach out to my deputies and I on Discord if you have any questions or concerns.
  15. After some discussion with the team: Kha'alzri appears to have a deep care for her clan. Does she ever wish to return to them? Do you have this as a potential end goal for the character? Queendom Unathi, besides Aut'akh and Guwan, have it worst on station, for the most part. It is a jarring change IC, and the Queendom is looked down on for its views. Do you think Kha'alzri would get into scraps or fights about this, should anyone be provocative enough? Th'akh is a very open-ended religion. Do you have any ideas for Kha'alzri's own ideas about it, such as unique spirits she pays tribute to, any rituals or prayers she has?
  16. Alright. Your character's backstory section is a little short, and usually I use that to gauge a character's personality. What are some character traits Dorviza has that can aid or hamper them? Go for at least one good and one bad trait and talk about them a bit. Does Dorviza ever wish to return home? How does this affect their time in Biesel and their own culture? What is are some aspects of Unathite culture Dorviza that are probably not leaving them, for better or for worse? Think of the species themes here! Thank you for your time in applying.
  17. Hello! I will be going over your application later today.
  18. Hello! I will be going over your application later today.
  19. Thanks! My deputies may have more questions, but that satiates me for now. I will try to process this application as soon as possible.
  20. It is not just another sport, but a very similar concept that is being executed. More about it can be read here: https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Crosk
  21. I will be looking over this over the course of the week, provided school and work are permitting. What makes this stand out from Crosk, whose identity has similarly put stock in racing events?
  22. After going through applications for a while, I decided to draft a guideline on how I view the whitelist application process and give some pointers to prospective applicants.

Due note that this is entirely from my perspective and experience over the years and other lore developers may have different opinions than me on the subject. Commenting is left on in case elaboration is asked for in any areas!

I appreciate the write up and the effort that went into it. By and large, I agree with the points. The only statement that I disagree with is the following:

“I look for characters with depth, that struggle with the beliefs of their species, that have their own views, and that are willing to challenge the norm in their own way.”

Now, I don’t disagree with you looking for these kinds of applicants. I’m simply stating my own thoughts on the matter of “challenging the norm.” I agree cookie cutters are lame, but die-hard lore characters that adhere to the norms and traditions of their species can be just as interesting as those “challenging” characters.

obviously, both camps need to create a character with some actual traits beyond “I’m a traditionalist” or “I’m a rebellious gamer” to be good characters. But more often than not, the characters that stick to their guns while on station, even when their traditional beliefs are unpopular or even considered wrong in Tau Ceti, are the most appealing to me. Mainly, because this drives conflict with lore at the center. But, it can lead to fun RP and learning about the lore.

A traditional character is an equally great option; however, in terms of the application itself, one that runs into no issues with their own culture, their species' beliefs and tendencies, and/or the desires and wishes of their peers could be seen as too on the nose for an application. I want to see a player's creativity in regard to the situations they can create with characters since I am judging one character out of potentially dozens they will be making.

That is my reasoning behind it, at least!

  23. This was a wonderful read! You make good use of imagery and locations and people in the lore, and on top of my experience with you as a roleplayer, I have no doubts in my mind that you will do wonderful things with the whitelist. Application accepted. Feel free to approach my deputies and I with any questions you may have.
  24. I originally wanted to put it all in the complaint, but realized as I was combing through conversations that it would have bloated the post to a ridiculous size. I wanted the complaint to be short and sweet seeing that all of my evidence was searchable on Discord and context was a click away. The image was added because I felt it showed intent and couldn't just be shrugged off as a joke.
