[Resolved] Staff Complaint: Garnascus and AimlessAnalyst
Garnascus replied to Araskael's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
So, heres what the core looked like after i came back from AFK. Granted this screenshot was taken AFTER i had killed you but it does show where everything was. https://gyazo.com/1e79344b76c34e79f04810dfc839f4bc I was tabbed out and i only tabbed back in after you blew open the inner core door with some sort of bomb. Then you shot a few lethal laser rounds in at something as evidence by the carbine on the floor that has half a clip. I didn't immediately shoot you with lethal weaponry only because i was having a bug where i couldn't open the turret menu. It was just a blank screen. I tried to let the security officer in who heard the explosion and shit but after some sort of dialogue between the two of you i was told to lock you in. At this point i re-logged to fix the bug as the admin logs will show, jenn even commented on me "lagging" but i wasn't. When i came back online you where firing lethal weaponry right at my inner turrets so i enabled my own turrets and turned you into a burning cinder. If that isn't enough to justify me enabling lethal weaponry on my turrets then i dont really know what is. You where extremely ill prepared and for some reason you didn't try to change or alter my laws since you had access to the law computers and the various modules. You could have also cut a camera so that i would not have been able to use my turrets. The thing to take away here is there are consequences to being ill prepared or just being bad at the game. People like to say that their isn't such a thing as being good or "trying to win" on a heavy RP server but preparing yourself appropriately for assaulting the most secure area on the station isn't even close to power gaming. I am not a mind reader, your intent of the situation is irrelavent. Stop trying to use it as a defense. I had no way to know you had anything but my utter destruction in mind. TLDR come better prepared next time and dont expect people to overlook severe and repeated mistakes. -
[Accepted] HunterRS's Whitelist App Trial 2
Garnascus replied to HunterRS's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Application approved. Glory to Aurora. -
yeah i like how this may encourage more permanent characters. Arent the crew all supposed to at least be acquaintances or something. I wonder how me giving people name changes with VV will affect this though.

Locking and archiving since ban was lifted.

[Accepted] Unban Request ShadowGabe23
Garnascus replied to ShadowGabe23's topic in Unban Requests Archive
The ban is super old so i will just go ahead and lift it. Please refer to the rules when you login! -
We had a meeting on this date to discuss a few issues. Below is a list of staff that attended, the issues we discussed, and our resolution for these issues. Staff that attended Garnascus Shadow Skull Ricky serveris nursiekitty incognitojesus killerhurtz alberyk sircatnip trickingtrapster juani datberry tablespoon The issues we discussed 1. Who has knowledge of the nuke? 2. What are you supposed to do when hit by a staff of change? 3. Mod applications. Should we keep open recruitment? 4. loyalty implants, what do they do? Our resolutions 1. After a bit of a debate we have decided that the only person on the station that has knowledge of what the nuke is and why it is present on station is the captain. It is his omega directive and his alone. The head of security knows that the nuclear authentication disk is an absolutely vital item but he does not know its intended purpose. To the rest of the crew its just an ordinary disk, they do not know its intended purpose or even that a nuke is on station. The argument of anyone with camera access being able to see the nuke is being rectified by us simply changing the sprite to something like a terminal. The AI for obvious reasons knows about the nuke but is forbidden by its laws to talk about the nuke. nuke ops, traitors, and similar antags can know about the nuke. This also means that captain players will not be permitted to hop between different command positions or the visitor role. You can still be promoted to a captain position from a HoP or similar profession as part of your character's story but you will have to remain as a captain from then on. 2. There has been considerable debate about just how you are supposed to role-play when turned into a monster or another alien by the wizard's staff of change. We have decided not to enforce a set way to play and instead leave it up to the player. If you are turned into a slime, alien, or otherwise hostile entity you can roleplay as if you remember nothing of your previous life and thus begin acting like a hostile alien. If that means stalking and eating the crew within the rules then so be it. Alternatively if you would like to completely remember your past life and completely ignore or struggle with the cravings and urging of your new body that is acceptable as well. If you are turned into a tajaran, unathi, or a diona it is expected you comply with their speech nuances. such as rolling your Rs and hissing. 3. Our moderator and our admin roster has recovered significantly. That being said we still consider the benefits of keeping recruitment open to outweigh any negatives. It allows us to encourage potential players to go make a moderator application. indeed that is how a few of our staff have gotten onto the team. we have however decided to clarify what timezones are currently in high demand. We can end up with no staff online during deadhour times. Usually from about 1-am to 6am EST time. Anyone within that timezone is encouraged to make an application. Pretty much every other timezone is full up. 4. last but not least we discussed loyalty implants. As it stands there is pretty much no directive or communication of just how we expect individuals to play with one. The goal here is to eventually add a short paragraph into the rules stating our expectations of loyalty implanted personnel. A second thread will go up shortly asking for community feedback on a WIP paragraph of our expectations. Players are encouraged to post and offer feedback or criticism.

Funnily enough, a note wasnt even left on you about this. "policing mouse RP" is not a thing. Mice are basically glorified observers. If you want to follow people around thats fine. pointing things out and displaying more intelligent or "human" characteristics is outside the bounds of the role. I will archive this now since thats as far as this needs to go.

i am going to lock this for the time being until i get a chance to review it. Likely tomorrow.

To start off with, i have spoken to datberry about dropping a week ban to begin with. It was really heavy handed and not at all fitting for what you did. That being said i could completely understand rushing into an almost vented room, grabbing someone suffocating, and then rushing out. That does not appear to be what happened here though. You remained inside for a considerable amount of time. That is just not ok.

[Inactive]Staff Complaint: CakeisOssim
Garnascus replied to Nanako's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
ok but look at the work he has to put to pull it off. It takes time to drag the AI out and hide it in the wall and you have to pray nobody catches you in the hall or is watching the borg on a camera. If you're able to pull it off GG for you. Like, this is a heavy roleplay server but there is also such a thing as being good at the game. -

The irony here is the crew knew where the AI was since they watched the borgs on camera hide the AI. Hiding inside the reinforced wall of the telecomms satellite is not and has never been considered an exploit. I see no reason to change it now. -

DO NOT MAKE A COMPLAINT WHILE A ROUND IS STILL GOING. THIS CONSTITUTES AS IC IN OOC. WAIT UNTIL AFTER THE ROUND! You know better nanako. -

nothing i can do until get nia's side. -
Off the top of my head i cant recall any specific ahelps about shitty ERT. I used to see them all the time about security until we started cracking down on it. Might be nobody cares to. I figure if we hold security to a certain level its fair to do the same for actual trained soldiers.

BEHOLD! ALL 11 MECH FIGURINES IN ONE SHIFT!
Garnascus replied to Absynth's topic in Denied Applications
So, i thought a lot about this one. The TLDR here is a pretty big NO. I get that this is a pretty neat moment, and i am kind of impressed that someone would spend an entire round farming the arcade game. This moment however fails to fall under the two arbitrary requirements i have set so far. Its not really at all hilarious nor is it a moment of above and beyond or really interesting roleplay. its literally just sitting at the arcade machine for a whole round. very cool and i am glad you managed to do this but its not hall of fame material. -
Hall of Fame application - God dammit Yahir.
Garnascus replied to phantomwolfZero's topic in Denied Applications
It might have been chuckleworthy during the round but yeah...not even close to being hall of fame worthy mate. sorry. -
moving as requested. My opinion on these fucking things hasnt changed in my staff tenure. I hate hate HATE them. I would remove them entirely if i could. Far far too often a captain or a HoS cannot take advantage of an interesting RP scenario because of that chip in his brain telling him not. Sure it should not happen every other round that a HoS is feeding permabrigged people to a changeling but i would love the possibility to be there and the barrier for entry being "really good RP" and not "abduct him to surgery and remove his implant and hope hes chill about it". That being said, its unlikely they will ever be removed. which isnt a bad thing. I would be all for adding LI directives that you can view just like an AI. at the very top and taking priority over all else i would add "serve nanotrasen's interests at all costs". This can be interpreted in many ways. Its clear from that wording that so long as you can justify that what you're doing is for the greater good of nanotrasen then you're alright from an OOC standpoint. The exact directives i dont really have a strong opinion on past that, just so long as it fixes a lot of the issues we have with them now. So many staff arguments have centered around "can a loyalty implanted head do X when Y happens?"

Escalating to a ban simply because someone did a thing X number of months ago is really dumb. Its basically saying you are never allowed to screw up. Examine the incident on its own and if its egregious enough then ban them. Intent is super important here, its incredibly clear from nikov's responses that his intent wasnt to power game. Given that a week ban to start off with was super dumb. At the same time a three bay ban isnt looking like it was out of the question. I understand completely you think your character had a reason to stay inside a depressurized area. You have to understand low pressure isnt really something you fuck around with. its super super SUPER deadly. On top of that you do have a handful of notes about you doing some questionable or silly things. While not related it does establish of pattern. I think datberry could have handled this a bit better, mostly not starting with the week ban. So, thoughts?
-
Yeah...still, it was a really silly thing to say datberry. So i do not have to read a novel can datberry please briefly explain why remaining inside was a problem and how long he did.

[INACTIVE]Complaint on Nia Synder (Abendorth)
Garnascus replied to sonicgotnuked's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
yeah this is pretty suspect...I will wait for abe to post there side though before i make a judgement. -
Actually we do this is absolutely something i will and have punished players for when i have seen it happen.
-
Probably a dynamic IP then. Which is fine. I will go ahead and lift this ban. Make sure you familiarize yourself with our rules.
-
Its not just a disagreement with me though. Its also how all of our staff operate. The reasoning of why we made the rule in the first place is considered much more important than the actual wording. Most of the time though situations are pretty straight forward. In this case though i discussed it with a few admins on discord chat and we all pretty much agreed "yeah you deserved a warning here". Having huge sheets of notes and warnings isnt necessarily a bad thing. We look for patterns of consistent behavior when we ban someone. After about three months or so a note or a warning becomes a lot less relevant. Unless you're an odd case where you have months of inactivity and then you go back to being a massive shithead. Cases like that are super rare though.
