  1. I've played a Tajara for upwards of two years now, Xel. It'll happen, whether you want it or not. The best thing is to just ignore it on an OOC level until it becomes harassment. Then you can talk to the admins about it. It's always going to happen, but there are people doing it who otherwise wouldn't because of the public view of Taj players currently. I'm going to do my part to try fixing that.
  2. Edited this some. I am going to be working on getting a sprite for this before I let it continue.
  3. So I don't come across wrong, I wasn't attacking you or your claims/story. I don't want to tell you you're "wrong" about anything as it isn't my place. I'm no longer a moderator. I was mearly point out why the topic was valid in our conversation about how Tajaran are being viewed. In the end, your actions happened and you've come to learn from the wrong, that's awesome. But, as a community and a group of whitelist holders, we need to figure out how to fix the bad air everyone has with Tajarans. I'm one of the Taj players now, or soon will be when it gets added to the server, so this matters to me. I don't want to be hated upon OOCly because I'm yet another Tajaran, I want to be minorly distrusted and expected to serve in my low level civilian job with no further chance for promotion unless I spend some serious knee time with the Corporate heads.
  4. I was reading the PMs between you and whomever handled the situation. I didn't witness the event outright but yeah. Given what I read and your statements here, I agree that your character had a right to defend himself and incapacitate the human character. However, killing them once they were down (which was the large portion of issue the staff member had with your actions) turned you from being agressive in a defensive manner, to being a murderously aggressive Taj, one that isn't helping the Tajaran aggression that everyone is talking about. It's perfectly fine to stand your ground, it's not cool to escalate that aggression any further.
  5. As someone who recently read our existing wiki on Tajara and got his whitelist accepted, I'd like to point out something. https://gyazo.com/2e392e57a3cb6f5c049943b3458ceec5 The first couple of sentences here are the only in the entire page that I see dictating anything about male/female roles... And it does NOT support gender bias in any fashion. In fact it very explicitly states the opposite. I've also seen people arguing the homosexuality bit, but that's for another thread I think. I just want our lore and our wiki to match so I know what shitstorm I'm walking into. If Taj are racially gender biased, make it say so. Our wiki is a quotable source of information and is, sadly, not up to par with what we need.
  6. I'm pretty shit at CS:GO and I'll admit to not really knowing what any of your abbreviations mean, but I'd play if you want.
  7. This made me smile. thanks Meow. I appreciate the opinion, though I'm curious as to the "snowflakey" part. Everything in my backstory pretty much came straight out of the written norm from the wiki.
  8. So relevent or not due to timing, my suggestion was technically helpful? Whoo!
  9. Skull, I'm no coder, but maybe have a look at the Circuit imprinter and see how that allows liquids in?
  10. For it to display a date we'd have to anchor the round to a timezone, which isn't a problem, just a general complication. I use whatever the date was when the round started in my time. (So if a round starts 10/28 at 11pm and rolls over to 10/29 at 1am, I use 10/28 the whole time.) Anchoring the date for it might fall in line with another suggestion I saw. http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3846#p37919
  11. Thanks to both of you for the awesome words. I really do enjoy my characters, though in my opinion I play rather plain people. I exist for the mundane and the boring. =P But my wife tells me I put myself down too much and that means I probably feel the same about my characters. >.>
  12. BYOND Key: Xelnagahunter Character Names: Eric Derringer, Qwerty, Harrin Traft, Derrik Hosttower, Vel Carin, Xel Carin Species you are applying to play: Tajaran What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): White Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I have. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: This is where I'll be stunded as paragraphs aren't my forte. So, moving forward, I want to play Tajaran because I feel the desire to do something different for myself. In the long run my goal is to better myself as an RPer making moves like this where I learn to RP something that is radically different enough from what I know. Learning to keep a Tajaran mindset and to deal with the status they are given will be something I enjoy, I hope. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Humans are the dominant race and playing a Tajaran opens the door for a new kind of RP where I am making a character that is socially looked down on due to race. I'm really not sure how else to articulate the difference other than directly refrencing their lore. To be fair, aside from cultural differences the actual differences aren't much as the race seems as diverse as any known human culture. There will always be members of the race oppressed and others that are lifted up and their solid history of that in the recent ages will make RPing as one a bit more fun than a radical human. Character Name: Atyos Tonim Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Atyos (Ah-Tee-Ohs) was born on Adhomai in 2410, growing up with the rule of the nobles. His family wasn't wealthy in any fashion and his parents were both hunters. When the humans came and the rebellion started his parents moved quickly to fight for the rebel cause. Atyos was brought along and sheltered with other non-combatants and refugees who were fleeing the attacks. One noble family learned of their location and bombed the cave system they were hiding, killing many. Atyos never saw or heard of his parents again after that day. The fighting ended quickly and Atyos learned that the humans came to help teach his people government. Then the teachers came and taught him and other Tajaran to read. It went on form there. With growing literacy and with education and technology on the rise, Atyos saw the good Humanity had done... His young adulthood was spent learning to mine the resources the companies found their planet so useful for. He learned to use simple tools and advanced ones. He was eventually brough to less hazardous work in the exports trade, getting the minerals off planet and to NanoTrasen. By 2450 he had learned to properly control and import/export trade as a foreman or manager. With eyes for larger income he looked to the company. Humanity would save him yet again. His employment for NanoTrasen is recent, but his background ensured he would be a worthwhile quartermaster, or a cargo tech if others were chosen for the role first, though in a pinch Atyos can easily outwork nearly any miner if he has to... What do you like about this character? He understands his races plight, but he embraces the good humanity did for them in the aftermath. While he knows he will be treated poorly, he knows it's worth more to work for NanoTrasen than on his home world. He trusts that Humanity has the answers to it all and even wishes they would be more involved in Tajaran government. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'm gonna go with a modest 5 out of 10. I'm not superb, but I'm far from sub-par. Even after all my time, RPing alongside the game mechanics still bogs me down a bit and I'm getting used to it, mostly in my typing speed. Notes: If anyone has any questions or concerns, please let me know. I'd like to fix any issues with my character lore wise, if any, and make something that can provide millions of RPing opportunities.
  13. A few personal concerns, with the first one already somewhat glossed over: What do we do if Urist McNukeop gets a ransom and transfers the funds to their account. Does that mean the character they chose to try joining as gets the money by default, because Whooo "10k credits!" Lets say naming of the character for Nuke Ops and Wizard rounds prevents that and you are expected not to put your character's real or whole name, What If I make a character named Houssam Jawdat and I get Jawdat's money and spend it all before anyone can notice that I'm not Jawdat's player. Or what if I play a randomly named character each round, does this effect my money to always be the default value unless another person has had this exact same randomized name before? It's just a few concerns, but something I'm hoping to see a solid answer for. I really want to support this as my captain would be very wealthy, while my career criminal would be struggling to make ends meet.
  14. I was online durring all of this and started paying minor attention when Tain poked you. While I don't recall all of the conversations I can attest that Tain was seeking and, in small part, receiving help and opinions regarding this event. Emotion was not something that was considered, at least not openly or heavily, during this. In fact, the only motivating emotion was perhaps frustration that we had to stop being productive in our round and RP to monitor this. The length of time between PMs from Tain were spent conversating with other staff for opinions and thoughts. That said, due to it being Tain's thing to handle, I didn't commit most of what was said to memory. So I won't be useful anymore as far as this appeal is concerned.
  15. This. we can add crates that bring in some of the non-essential items that come in a custom loadout. Those can be stocked away and when people want them they can come buy them. However I still think the primary goals of cargo should be the same. Ordering and delivery of goods. This also brings in a new level of roleplay from a job perspective. Nearly everyone will have reason to interact with cargo at this point. Love it.
  16. I'd love to have someone do something like this for me too. But I'm pretty shitty in the fact that I'm too broke to pay for anything.
  17. Of course the AI wants more intercoms on station. >.> But seriously, fix pl0x?
  18. Some of them. You don't wanna know how I know.
  19. Derringer- 6 Qwerty- 2/8 (Being an IPC he can forcefully ignore emotional emulations) Xel Carin- 3 Vel Carin- 2 My other two characters are new and I'll leave you guys in the dark about them. ~_^
  20. This is actually a really good idea. It can help prevent a premature cryo action for a disconnected player. HOwever we will always have players like that who may have used their entire loadout and don't wish to change it, but this gives everyone the option. I prefer an attachment that won't take up a whole slot.
  21. At this point I'm not going to continue kicking the horse. My opinions were expressed and I think you understand my views even if you disagree with them and for the most part I see yours. The only thing I have to add is that these opinions I have stated are exactly that and not those of our active staff team. I shouldn't have to say it, but I'd rather not have anyone thinking that I am speaking for our administration staff in any way.
  22. I fully suppport this. As a captain I've given her nearly complete CMO status, letting her control the medbay. It worked pretty well. This gets my endorsement. Emily, if you are interested in learning the command side of things, join as an assistant with a captain or HoP and ask to be made their direct assistant. More often than not they are going to communicate with CC. Continue to use the "I'm learning to CMO" bit because then they have reason to teach you regulation responses and what documents to properly fill out from a command pov.
  23. If I'd not seen this firsthand, I'd agree with you that it's not a good way to think. I hate thinking like this and I know every group is different, but this is a theme I've seen too often and simply dislike. It's become ingrained to me that this will happen, every time. If a group can prove me wrong, I'll gladly stop arguing this point. I was going to mention something in my first post about trusting staff, but it hit me that many of our users don't trust us, which complies on to Killer's post a bit about someone messing up can take the whole team down, even if it was a mistake. I wish we could be trusted to handle the issues in a way that we deem fit and not be criticized because we didn't perma ban a guy who made a mistake in game. Not to be rude or anything... but I don't know you, how can I trust you? I'm speaking both of you personally, who I've seen around the forum a bit and that's it, and the staff in general. Don't get me wrong, I like several of the staff, and in the handful of times they've spoken to me in an official capacity I've never felt they were being unfair, but trust is a strong word. The fact that the server is both growing and hasn't turned into a festering drama-hole are enough to convince me that they're generally competent, but beyond that I really don't know. This one is a bit harder. I had thought of ways to combat it then remembered I'm a lot more trusting/forgiving than most people. I was gonna say that you might trust a cashier to give you the correct change, but people do the math, check receipts, and count the change anyways. So it turns out, while I type, that I learn I have no rebuttal here that isn't directly from my personal views of the world.
  24. I was, at the time, the only really active staff at the moment and the shuttle had already launched. It was a pretty hectic round and I was struggling to keep up with a few things. The shuttle had docked with the odin by the time your logs cam through and when I jumped I didn't have much time to register everything. It started with you messing with SSD characters and then the fight, so my reaction was to ban you both at the start of the next round. I want to apologize and I am willing to lift this immediately.
  25. The reason Im "implying" is because I heard straight from the horse's mouth that it's almost happened before. While actually lacking the information necessary to make a substantiated claim. Do you know why they didn't wish for said action to go through? Cause the main chatter I hear between the admins and DOs is about a silly papertrail not being left or protocol not being followed to the tee somewhere, and that gets actions scrubbed. It's like bureaucratic red tape. If you didn't file such and such properly, the actions filed for don't take place. The admin team, from my mostly uneducated stance, is acting as the people who check that t's were crossed and i's were dotted. They then be sure everything was triple stamped and notarized before allowing relevant authorities to see it so that they can consider letting it happen.
