Merge Pharmacist and Physician
La Villa Strangiato replied to BLUNTFORCE420's topic in Suggestions & Ideas
I'm honestly more inclined to just remove physicians. You've kind of pointed out they're a superfluous feature in this line right here. That isn't what this thread is about though, and if this merge happened, I'd prefer physician just get an extra slot and an alt-title so you could pick what you wanted to do. -
I played as a first responder under Lucius Volvalaad during a wild and wacky ninja round, and not only did he effectively delegate to engineering, security, and medical by employing interim heads, he was present, communicative, and overall wasn't just an empty vessel of a character. It was the kind of conduct you'd expect from an experienced command player!

Reporting Personnel: Dr. Sralza Kassaka Job Title of Reporting Personnel: Chief Medical Officer Game ID: cod-dMbt Personnel Involved: - Myself, Sralza Kassaka, Chief Medical Officer, victim - Ben Donitz, surgeon, offender - Helena Artigas, Captain, witness Secondary Witnesses: - Yekta Nazeri, pharmacist, listened to my admonitions over communications - Ren Hartfort, surgeon, listened to my admonitions over communications Time of Incident: Roughly 00:00 to 1:30 Real Time: 9:30pm EST, ish Location of Incident: Medical Bay Nature of Incident: [ ] - Workplace Hazard [ ] - Accident/Injury [ ] - Destruction of Property [ ] - Neglect of Duty [ ] - Harassment [ ] - Assault [x] - Misconduct [x] - Other: Repeated inability to concede to comfort of other crewmembers and follow orders from a superior Overview of the Incident: Dr. Donitz repeatedly insists upon using nicknames for personnel in the medical bay, which so long as other staff have no trouble with, I was otherwise content. However, prior to this particular shift, I mentioned to him I did not want a nickname and would prefer to be addressed by simply "Dr. Kassaka" or just "Kassaka". I also stressed that I did not want to be called by my first name, as he suggested some variety of nickname based on it. As I am sure staff are aware, it is offensive to refer to Sinta'Unathi by their personal name if one is not close, akin to establishing a far too personal relationship with someone too quickly. This was elucidated to Dr. Donitz previously, as he has had similar incidents with another Sinta coworker. However, this shift, Dr. Donitz chose to address me as "Sralza" while speaking to me about an emergency. While he did not say it over communications, fig. 1 shows my response, and his response thusly. I decided to let it pass as I was later busy with directing a few minor responses. Later, however, I asked him to stage in the OR as there was a workplace accident in xenobotany, and he responded with "as you wish, Sralza". Fig. 2 was my response. After the workplace accident incident had passed, he addressed me on communications with a shortened version of my first name in fig. 3. I admit here is where I lost composure and, as the images of the archived communications say, I did swear and call him an "insolent cad". I regret my loss of composure immensely. As his immediate response was to try and push back against me, I spoke to Captain Helena Artigas and requested that she stop him from continuing to act disrespectfully. Artigas' message to Dr. Donitz is as seen in Fig. 4. Dr. Donitz proceeded to remain silent, as requested, for the remainder of the shift. Near the end of the shift, I took Dr. Donitz into my office and told him in no uncertain terms that it was offensive for him to continue to use my first name, and the fact he had continuously ignored my requests to stop doing so began to cross the line into deliberate xenophobia because he refused to acquiesce to my cultural norms. I also told him I did not want a nickname, and it was not a debate. He continued to try and argue against me, refusing to agree to my terms of calling me "Dr. Kassaka". I decided to send him out of my office and begin work on this incident report, as his defiance does not befit how he speaks to both a direct superior and the captain of the ship. Submitted Evidence: Fig. 1 Fig. 2 Fig. 3 Fig. 4 Would you like to be personally interviewed?: [x] - Yes [ ] - No Did you report it to a Head of Staff or a superior? If so, who? If not, why?: I am a head of staff, and I requested aid from Captain Artigas. Actions taken: Dr. Donitz was verbally reprimanded by Captain Artigas (fig. 4), and near the end of the shift I took him aside to explain why his behaviour was unacceptable. As he continued to combat the request of a direct superior, I made the decision to file this report. Additional Notes: N/A

head of staff DasFox | Command
La Villa Strangiato replied to TheSleepyCatmom's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I played a recent round with Sefiya as my physician, and I found they were really quiet and didn't seem to be that present on comms. Mind you, they could have been more obvious on command comms and I just didn't notice, and it was also a moderately hectic round, but I think she could stand to be a bit more present in making herself known. Neutral on this one. -
I agree with GMR on the idea of an atrium space; I miss Patience dearly and I think putting it right in the center would be a great spot if it was more of a little garden. I honestly don't see a lot of the side tables getting used either, so I'm not opposed to some of them being replaced with plants and stuff. I drafted up a little floor plan here to see what it might look like. I think you could take out the wall in the back and just have a floor transition to the area to make it feel more open.

[ACCEPTED] Goolies' Fish Application 🦑
La Villa Strangiato replied to goolie's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Many are saying this. I think Goolies would play a really good fish person, and I have a soft spot for Skrell characters that end up being failchildren just because of the restrictive nature of their society. It's always cool to see people playing Skrell who are a little more wacky or "out there" and I think Goolies could pull that off in an interesting and compelling way. +1 from me -
I don't really like this layout and I'd second all of the concerns expressed above. RND is fine as it is, IMHO.

Okay, time to collect all my critiques into one post here. From your post on the GitHub: I am having a bit of trouble parsing this. What is the "formerly-really-important" roleplay location? Is it the rec room, the holodeck, or the CiC/self-destruct? Are you saying that the holodeck should be in the space that the CiC/self-destruct was? I feel like "contribute roleplay" is doing a bit too much heavy lifting here. I find the location of the CiC/self-destruct convenient because it means that a command member doesn't have to walk themselves across three decks to reach a very important location where you can continue to do Command Things if the bridge is compromised. Its central position is because it is on the command deck and needs to be accessible to command. It's also close to medical, which I will get into more shortly. To elaborate, I find this PR makes the third deck feel a lot more cramped, and I am mildly annoyed that the space that was in the third deck rec area got shaved off when a lot of the space could have been used to make the holodecks a lot more accessible and fit Patience, the CiC, and the self-destruct in. For example: These points on the holodeck entryway are massive chokepoints, and they seem like the only way to enter the holodeck. The holodeck as it currently is is a lot more accessible because it has three halls surrounding it, which are all fairly large. This version makes it a lot more crowded and choked to get in or watch what's going out without obstructing traffic. Two-tile hallways to observe happenings are probably not gonna cut it, given some of the rowdiest rounds where all of the crew was watching what happened in the 'deck meant that three three-tile hallways got very full. Speaking of obstructing traffic, I know it's a kind of a niche route, but this PR makes the holodeck (and the third deck in general) a lot less accessible for medical people too. One being the crowding/chokepoint issue that I already brought up (when I play first responder it's sometimes a hassle to get people to move out of the way in a three-tile hallway, nevermind a single doorway), but the other is that third deck medical is nicely close to the elevator, the stairs, the CiC,, and the holodeck. It's a nice, broad route from all four mentioned locations to the safe zone of medical, and the proposed new map (WIP as it is, I understand) makes it a lot more roundabout to get from the elevator to medical, and because of the singular door, would make it very painful for someone in cardiac arrest because of a spar to be transported to medical. This may seem like not a big deal, but I prommy when you're trying to drag someone from point A to point B, small hallways and paths that require you to take big turns are a huge PITA. Overall, I think space could be a lot more effectively utilised in this PR. I understand it's a WIP, but I feel the need to put my two cents in given the points that I brought up about accessibility, which are admittedly easily-missable unless you're taking a good look at how the maps are laid out. A couple other notes: The residential deck page on the wiki states that there are no recreational facilities on the rez deck and the rec area (the gym, the pool, etc) are the only places on the ship that have them. It's easy to fix by just saying there's a gym on the rez deck, however. I want to keep the pool for purely selfish and biased reasons.

Adding a delay is probably better for applying nanopaste here; playing as a synthetic in a violent round without a machinist can be a serious pain in the ass, and I would really rather the roleplay of IPC players not be hindered by damage that takes a long time to repair or is impossible to repair in round due to a lack of machinists.

Ckey/BYOND Username: lavillastrangiato Position Being Applied For: Wiki maintainer Have you read the Lore Team Rules and Regulations wiki page?: Yes. Past Experiences/Knowledge: I've written for a few wikis before, but I wrote fairly extensively for Baystation's wiki before it blew up and was transported to its current URL. I edit the written works of my friends often, and I have informal experience as a proofreader. I also used to write a lot of gameplay guides on Baystation 12, though not all of them are published. Examples of Past Work: I'm not sure if these count, given that they aren't credited to me, but these guides for the Chief Medical Officer and Pharmacist in particular are more or less unchanged from how they were when I originally wrote them back in 2020. Additional Comments: If accepted, I would probably start a grand crusade against the gameplay guide articles, particularly engineering, given that they are very outdated and unhelpful! I'd also be interested in creating a style guide (a la Wikipedia) to standardise the general feel and how the wiki reads, but that will probably come later.

Eddymakaveli's Moderator Application
La Villa Strangiato replied to eddymakaveli's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
Genuinely uncomfortable how level-headed and comfortable with talking to people that EZ is. Is not your average spessmans goon in that he can actually communicate with people! Would be a good fit for a mod but I am obviously biased, and also new. -
If you automate engineering away, you will have a beautiful problem of cause-and-effect where people will stop playing engineering because there is nothing to do. Despite the fact that some people consider the setup tedious busywork (I didn't mind it, but then again I am/was a chemistry main), the setup is engineering's bread and butter. Without it + assorted projects + blobs, there is literally fuckall to do in a round for a department that has already been rather shafted. If nobody plays engineering, nobody is going to teach engineering apprentices; ergo, nobody is around to fix atmos greef + vending machines + viruses but admins, drones, and sometimes an AI. The other problem with making engineering fully set at round start is that it removes any customisability from shields, SM setup, Tesla setup, and (I look conspicuously at SneakyRanger and ShakyJake) thruster setup. If we have the default 80/20 setup going into the thrusters at round start, it will be a major pain in the ass to take out the cringe and fail gas and replace it with a superior gas mix and pipe setup. This removes the last measly scrap of joy from engineering, and almost guarantees even your hardcore engineers will get frustrated with the department. But La Villa Strangiato, I hear you lament, when we have no engineers it sucks major dick to do things and go places. The ship runs out of power, La Villa Strangiato. You are correct! Which is why, instead of removing engineering entirely, I have taken the burden of being the Ideas Guy upon myself and proposing a few ideas, in order of (probably) least complicated to most complicated to make expeditions and power loss less of a problem. 1. Make it so the Horizon spawns within a tile of an away site, any away site, all the time. Currently, this was done for Adhomai whenever Adhomai spawned, but I think it can also be done for the rest of the game as well. It means the Intrepid can make a simple transition from ship to planet surface, and if they want to go to another away site, the hypothetical bridge crew can head on over so the bridge crew isn't totally screwed for things to do. 2. Add solars. There is literally so much empty deck space I seriously have no idea why there aren't solars already. Make the AI able to interface with them, and allow a department vaguely related to engineering (operations?) to turn them on so the ship isn't in the dark forever.

I think Rusting is a very strong writer who has a lot of love for his craft, and I really think he could bring a fresh face to the Unathi lore team. This is a +1 from me, but I have a couple questions; 1. Do you plan on any expansion of the Traditionalist/Wastelander clan lore? 2. You are given the opportunity to explore a minor story arc centered around Moghes. The kicker is that it must exclusively be conveyed in news articles. What would you want to write about and why?

A HUD icon so that you can tell as a zombie who's infected and who isn't. IMHO, you don't really need a "counter" to IPCs and diona. If zombies are already incredibly dangerous to all organic species, it makes sense to deploy robots and drones against them. As a zombie I could already "counter" IPCs fairly effectively just by ganging up on them and hitting them. I also think that voidsuits, hazmat suits, and suits in general should protect against any infection initially, but if you rip a suit and attack the same area again as a zombie, it should allow infection.

Feedback thread for service remap
La Villa Strangiato replied to kyres1's topic in Completed Projects
Bar needs a sink, either somewhere in the back room or in the bar area. Also, probably put the request console over the table in the back room so it isn't putting paper on the floor. -
