[Denied] Rataca's - Vaurca application
Bygonehero replied to a topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I'm having difficulty seeing your character beyond an objective base. I get that Vaurca are indeed extremely objective focused, being born for a duty to the hive, but unbound are still people. What I am trying to get at is that your character as it is written would be no different than any other character that someone else decided to make. Look at the outline, Za Unbound 1111 is born Za Unbound 1111 assigned to train for combat Za Unbound 1111 assigned to work security for Nanotrasen Za Unbound 1111 arrives on NSS Aurora What I am looking from you is a way to make the character your own, as it is now, you are detailing them working for Nanotrasen. What I was suggesting before is that you insert a subjective viewpoint into your stories outline, something like above could look like... Za Unbound 1111 is born -objective Za Unbound 1111 assigned to train for combat by emulating human battles. (How did he train, what did he do?)-objective Za Unbound 1111 develops a fondness for human history-subjective Za Unbound 1111 is removed from Virtual Reality before training is complete-subjective Za Unbound 1111 realizes training outside Virtual Reality, indeed the real world in general sucks.-subjective Za Unbound 1111 nearly starves, as their broods food stores dwindle.-subjective Za Unbound 1111 volunteers to work, (Why did they decide to volunteer, as a way to escape their situation or for their hive?)-subjective Za Unbound 1111 is assessed to be fit for Nanotrasens security programme. -objective Za Unbound 1111 begins cadetship.-objective. Simply put, you need to expand beyond simply listing what your character did, and explain more about why and how they are doing it. Why they do what they do. Why did your character choose to study insurgent behaviors? What did they experience that created this interest? How did they train themselves to study human behaviors? -
Merge Virology And Pharmacist Into A New Title: Bio-Physician
Bygonehero replied to a topic in Archive
My suggestion was to give Virology the same access type as genetics did on the Exodus, the middle ground between Research and Medical, where a part of Virology is medical based, but another part of its base for research this would mean that actually developing new viruses is treated under the protections of Research directives, and you would not be beholden to just the CMO viewpoints. The research and medical sublevels could easily be linked together. As for your relation, its false as one could argue that virtually everything in existence is chemistry. I'm not talking about the fact that chemistry plays a role in viruses and their incubation, no I'm talking about the staggeringly different fields of chemistry and virology. -
No, This is really dumb. The only thing that needs to be done with Virology, is that its research and medical purposes need to be fed into their appropriate departments. Virology should be a science/medical profession and have the accesses therein reflecting that.

Merge Virology And Pharmacist Into A New Title: Bio-Physician
Bygonehero replied to a topic in Archive
I don't like merging the duties and expectations of a role into one. You're making desperate fields come together.instead, I feel merging Virology into a science/medical role is more sound, and infinitely less power creep than taking two separate jobs and making up some bullcrap about them coming together. -
It's never been that destructive, while it sounds destructive saying it, having actually seen the event happen many times, I cannot recall it ever causing more than one area from depressurizing. Its even hit people before, and it does not gib them, but it most certainly does damage.

[1 Dismissal] Remove Random Viruses from Random Events

No. I don't like this, at all. Your middle ground isn't a middle ground. -
[Accepted] Sleepy's Skrell Application
Bygonehero replied to SleepyWolf's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I've only ever seen good role play from sleepy. They have a tendency to subvert your expectations in a character in the best ways possible. There is not a single doubt in my mind that they could reasonably role play anything they decide to, including skrell. -
These have been around for awhile but vanished around the time of the second bay merge I believe. Immovable rod events would happen, being signaled by CC announcing: What the hell was that?! Then an immovable rod would move through the station, creating a perfectly straight line. This event could be adapted to take advantage of multi-z stations by making the rod able to hit the station from its sides or from its top or bottom. It was never an overtly destructive event, but it was an interesting one. I think it should be readded.

Progression is not something this game is designed for. It is designed for roleplaying by simulating a workplace. Why then do we gate abilities, any abilities at all behind a progression line? Let me be clear, I am not talking about removing limits to power totals, as in the case of wizards and their spell slots. No, what I am talking about is the clear progression of abilities from low power, to high power. It makes little sense to force an antag to achieve an arbitrary goal to simply gain new abilities when it's those very abilities that assist the antag in facilitating roleplay. This is why cult research was removed, progression simply doesn't make sense. Its time now to do the same to all other antag types with progression.

Cult masks are basically cult AI's that exist in the minds of cultists and ethereal plane, Their job is to direct the cult to an ultimate purpose. They cannot be killed as they do not have a body, but they can be rendered unable to interact with the physical world if there are no cultists.

[Denied] Rataca's - Vaurca application
Bygonehero replied to a topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
You are on the right track and have given your character an interest. The human history of warfare is rich with detail, these details can be recreated perfectly in VR simulations. What if your Za was part of a recreation of a famous human battle? How surreal would it be to see a Vaurca attempt warfare in a recreation of D-day,Gettysburg, Stalingrad, Midway, or going further back to the First Crusade, or Battle of Cannae. To be clear, you don't need to edit your original post with this, these are just some ideas to help you develop your character, you need to understand their motivations, and a prompt like this would definitely help you out. As it is, you still need a bit more detail about your character, and as always keep on asking for feedback! -
[Denied] Rataca's - Vaurca application
Bygonehero replied to a topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
It's a good start, but I think we can expand a bit more on their backstory. If you could, try to think of what your Vaurcas training would consist of. Za are specialized to be mentally prepared for combat, unlike workers, and their jobs typically involve a weapon of some kind. Many things can be considered weapons, such as information, computer programming, etc, so a generally trained Za is unlikely. Try to specialize your Za, it doesn't need to be a grunt, but if it is one, try to think about what kind of training a direct fighter would undertake. Unbound Za who are frontline fighters would likely be in charge of a group of bound warriors. Try to think more about your characters motivations during this, and if you wanted to really go the extra mile, try to think of their lives in the real world. The real world that the Zo'ra hive finds itself in is a panoply of bad and worse situations. How would your character see its situation? What would your character do to overcome their or their hives situations? As Jam said, you could write about a famine, and how its affected your character and those around your character. Additionally, it really really helps me when you get feedback, keep on advertising in the round for feedback! -
Naming plants is a must, the crew will love the taste of my butternut squash.

That's understandable it was a clusterfuck. I never attempted to ignore you, but I also didn't consider you were acting in such a way to gain my attention. All in all I think unless a mod/min disagrees we can close the complaint

BYOND Key: BygoneHero Game ID: bTR-c3fG Player Byond Key:Elohi Adanvdo Staff involved: ReadThisNamePlz Reason for complaint: Completely unbecoming behavior of a command staff. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? No, I did not because the round demanded my full attention at the time Approximate Date/Time: 4/13/2018 6:20 EDT Notes: The character R.I.P made it impossible to enjoy the round with their rude remarks and unprofessional behaviors. They were having power trips while the station was falling apart around them and then continued to undermine station command communication while an ongoing emergency occurred. This is not behavior that is expected of a command staff whitelisted player.

It looks wonderful, just make sure to include the cargo transponder nodes for the pathfinding units at the loading area, most of the map has them forgotten about right now.

Now is the era of human+ In all seriousness I am against this, you know why cake.

Except when people use the OOC nature of secret chemicals, ' the fact that they are not on the wiki' to dictate their IC actions. You are telling me, that the RD cannot know EXACTLY what their scientists are making, and exactly what they used? You are telling me that ANY doctor cannot know EXACTLY what they are injecting into a person and whats inside it? What if this person had an allergy? Medications IRL have a standardized system of identification to avoid exactly this, but beyond that, people ignore IC reasonings in favor of keeping the secret.
-
Elitism shouldn't exist in this game. Secret chemicals/recipes, as well as the active effort to hide them from other people, is stupid. It breaks game immersion when your scientists refuse to tell their boss anything about what they are doing.Secret knowledge people refuse to share, even when they icly should is cancer. I would rather it be revealed, but secret knowledge or mechanics should not exist in this game.

[Accepted] DeadLantern's Vaurca Application
Bygonehero replied to DeadLantern's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
The whitelist application simply exists to see if you can roleplay a species to an acceptable level. Bound or Unbound, each is simply a different way to play the species. From what I have been able to gather, you have encapsulated the bound mindset fairly well, this is good because it is hard to really describe. This is why my predecessors and I discourage people from applying as bound, it is difficult to understand the nuances between them and mindless robots. Using your feedback, character history, backstory as well as your reasoning for wanting to play Vaurca, I have to ask myself at the end of this application, can DeadLantern roleplay Vaurca to an acceptable level? The answer is yes, yes they can, all other considerations are irrelevant. Application Accepted! -
No. Virtually all problems said so far are solved by ahelping bad AI play. Powergaming and Valid hunting are as just a valid reason to ahelp than anything else. I believe that if a limitation should exist for the AI role, a timer that counts the number of days you've been with the server. Theoretically one could simply wait this out, but anyone that committed to griefing would be rare, and rarer still to not be caught yet, after something like 30 days. You've no idea how many times, usually at the very start of the round that I identify or locate antagonists. I do nothing about this information because it isn't fun to immediately shut someone down (also against rules). I very much enjoy interacting with the crew and station as little as possible, a spiderweb of information fed to me various ways acting as a way for me to advise command. I normally only act on overt antagonists actions, and I never really look for antagonists unless someone asks me to.

We are all "messing" with the code for an entire playerbase out of our own self-interest. We are all volunteer coders, and even if our goal is so noble as to make the game perfect and beautiful so everyone can have fun, our methods are more often than not shaped by our own interests and observations. You say that the post isn't about the PR itself, but I think that is not quite true. PRs made "selfishly" before did not merit similar complaints because they do not merit similar complaints. The fact of the matter is that the PR itself was bad, and the community did more than hate it. We do not need to crucify the PR author as a scapegoat to remedy this - as I've said before the dev team is always looking for constructive feedback and suggestion on how to better organize our efforts. These past few incidents already have spurred the dev team to consider and undertake some changes to better facilitate community outreach. The dev team is by no means inflexible in these regards, so we do not need to resort to such base considerations as "repo-banning" someone that made a single bad PR. Yep, the more people who give input through git, or forums, the better. Burger has had hit and misses with their PRs, but they find things in the game that should be or could be and develop them. The reason why isn't really as important as the discussion about said change. It's through discussion that some of the best mechanics are made. Do you think any species dev pushed species PRs for purely selfless reasons? Even when it fits the lore, it's only to better fit their vision for their species in the game. That's what PR's do, and that's why a discussion about them is so important. They are a collective vision of how the game should be, and frankly, I would rather have more controversial PRs, as it gives impetus for the players to see someones vision of the game. Agree or disagree, the input is valued, as it allows a better compromise between all parties. Take, for example, the psych PR.

BYOND Key:Bygonehero Game ID: bTB-doxw Player Byond Key: Unknown Staff involved:Datberry Reason for complaint:Repetitive validhunty behaviors Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? : I did, yes but it was deemed that the issue was more in line with a complaint to bring issue with the whole of their behavior, not just the moments I have witnessed. Approximate Date/Time:3/28/2018: 8:00PM EST Comments I enjoy some of JAIS's roleplay, but what I enjoy and what I do not is few and far between, too often do they take on the role of some medbay nanny that protects everyone, without regard for their actual characters abilities or the context of the situation. Otherworldly, dare I say, COSMIC forces at work fighting the entire security department? JAIS goes at it with a crowbar, injecting herself into the situation when she shouldn't.A hostage situation or a Pig-faced Ghost killer appearing from nothing and murdering people? Fearless JAIS protects all. This, including frankly poor IPC play that borders on powergaming makes me dislike interacting with them. I HAVE had good interactions with them, but this is far from the norm, and the examples I gave do not include a litany of other examples, from what I understand they were spoken about before this complaint.

[RESOLVED] Character Complaint - Paul Jonson
Bygonehero replied to Ornias's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
https://wiki.baystation12.net/Gilthari_Exports This is a holdover from the baymerge that should probably be removed, or lore made to justify its existence, as it stands currently there is no such company in our lore, and it only exists as an option because of the baymerge.
