The first point: The way Fowl Implemented them originally didn't match the self-same lore he wrote for them. They aren't meant for combat, in any sense. Further, they would be encountered regularly by people within the city planetside, as every hive cell of every Vaurca hive has one that keeps its numbers in check. The second point: This is incorrect, Vaurca are a species where most if not all of the Zo'ra hive alone on Tau Ceti must in fact work for Nanotrasen. They have regular positions throughout the company. They were discovered five years ago. Since then, There have been many circumstances where Tau Ceti has opened up to them, many which occurred before my tenure. The third point: Alieness is a positive, not a negative. If you purposefully expose just your most humanoid members of your species to humans then none of the others would ever become Normalized. I say none of the others as there are many Nonhumanoid Za and Ka as well. These would be seen throughout Tau Ceti and even beyond, so an argument about hiding non-humanoids doesn't hold weight. the fourth point: I asked for assistance from several developers but I couldn't get their help with the sprites. I did the best I could given the circumstance. The sprite itself is only 35x35 right now, which normal sprites are 32x32. Three pixels are not much bigger and if given assistance from actually skilled people, this is a nonissue.

These are all good points, but I can only say that, I am doing better since. I was never spoken about my AI play in that such a controlling playstyle was bad. I didn't want to ruin the players round, but yes, you are right in that I thought I knew how they were suppose to play. Since then, and from my most recent interactions with staff and players, I realize that this isn't the case. I am trying to be better, and I really just want the chance to prove that. It would hurt me to leave the community, not because its something I spend my time on, but because everyone in it is such a large part of what I personally like to do, I love discussing and writing lore, and experiencing the things that players make.
-
I also disagree with the some of the findings of that report, as it wasn't OOCly motivated. For this particular circumstance, since my last few notes with the toxicity issue, none of my other characters remotely act that way. Only particular AI's who generally try to run a tight ship in a very controlling manner. Further, in this particular case, I was playing a new AI that pressured its robots to be productive, likening both myself and the robots as simply tools, that also revered the crew as literal gods, because of miscommunication, all of this happened and escalated, which is my fault, but my intent was never to ruin another players round. Given the ahelp situation, I did not mean shitborg as more than the same way people describe shitsec, shitcurity, shitag, and I did not in any way voice this to the players, only the admins. If this colored my intentions to reflect one of a personal nature, I certainly didn't mean it that way. The escalation in the round to me, made sense, but looking back at the larger issue, I can see why it didn't from their point of view, and can only apologize for it and tell you that, from discussions surrounding it, I am doing better with both staff and the community at large because of it.

I am contesting the decision, but I am not sure exactly how beyond that I believe it is too severe, and that I would like to keep my role in the community. What form this takes I have no idea, I did wrong, but I'm sure how to approach it beyond that. Before I made this complaint I spoke to Cnaym about it, and it was suggested to ask for an early appeal but make it a complaint? I am not 100% certain on this, but regardless, whatever is felt proper, I will do.

BYOND Key: BygoneHero Staff BYOND Key: Cnaym/Prate Game ID:N/A Reason for complaint: An early appeal/change of punishment/ keeping my lore dev position Evidence/logs/etc: Additional remarks: I've learned alot from this issue, more than I have from any other. The situation with Contextual really showed me how I was effecting community, and it prompted honest discussions with other staff about it. I am not a perfect person, but I care about the community to make it better. I hope I am getting better and I am aware of my problems. I just want the chance to continue working with the staff that I have come to count among my friends, and the community I have come to love. Were it required, I would take any time suggested to distance myself, but ultimately that decision is for the administration. I can only say that I am trying to do better. I can only say that I my goal is to stay on the lore team, to stay apart of the community that has its creative and talented people everywhere within it. I can only ask for the opportunity to continue with the community.

Borya's Normie Loredep application
Bygonehero replied to BoryaTheSlayer's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Explain to me a day in the life of a Frontiersmen from the Far Rim who came to make it big in Tau Ceti. Where would they live? What would their priorities be? How would their view be different, if at all? etc. Not looking for specific answers, be creative. -
[ACCEPTED]ShesTrying to Be a BUG
Bygonehero replied to ShesTrying's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
A very good application, and a creative method to convey what a Newt is suppose to be. The disconnect from reality and expectation, of an entirely expanded horizon from the tiny one your character until recently occupied is wonderful. I am eager to see how Voa develops moving forward, application accepted! -
Player Complaint- Contextual/Pennant
Bygonehero replied to Bygonehero's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I told them to select engineering or construction module, since we had only one engineer and some round start things needed to be done. They did not do that until after they were ahelped. I told them to setup the shields after Dwrago told me that they didn't mean to come across as complaining about orders. They did that. I told them to cease complaining about receiving orders from their bound AI, as just because Dwrago told me they were new doesn't change the fact that they did that previously in round. I wasn't cruel about it. I wasn't overt about it. I said it simply so they would stop making problems for me with the crew of the NSS Aurora. I did not forbid them from talking with Alma yet. They did not do that. After they started to complain again, the IC escalation was once again, a robot ignoring an order just because it wants to, for seemingly no reason than to piss off crew against the AI. I informed them of this, and that complaining about not being able to complain is against the simple orders they were given. At this time, Contextual told Schev in some way that I was listening to many intercoms across the station. Alma did not discover this, seconds after I mentioned that I knew, privately in binary, she immediately went to "discover" that the intercom was listening. And promptly made a big fuss over it in the common channel. At this point, I was convinced that the robot was malfunctioning, as ICly, it had made every effort to make problems with the crew and me, when it otherwise didn't need to. I also ahelped this issue to Dwrago, as it is impossible for it to be a miscommunication or "accident" as they claim when they are so obviously trying to cause problems on purpose for me. It is here that I escalated the orders given to them, and told Pennant to leave the area and install cameras, as there was no roboticist on the crew manifest to work on them. During this time, the ahelp continued and dwrago said that sometimes when people play, that they just don't want to do their jobs, and to go easy on them. I conceded their point and informed them that, once they installed the last few cameras that they had, that they may go back to doing what they were doing, only to simply just stop causing problems for me, for seemingly no reason. Could you please point to the specific instance that you are talking about. -
BYOND Key:Bygonehero Game ID:b25-az7G Player Byond Key/Character name: Contextual Staff involved: Dwrago Reason for complaint: I was told to make a complaint to continue an issue brought up elsewhere. Contextual lied to moderation staff in an attempt to win a ruling. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? Yes, Dwrago handled the ahelp and was the one lied to by Contextual. Approximate Date/Time: (The date and time of the incident. Date is more important but both are helpful) The player of Pennant created a problem ICly with their actions that had me doubting if they were following the rules for expected Cyborg/Robot play. I ahelped to Dwrago, and they said that Contextual was new to being a station bound, and that they didn't mean to cause the issue. As a result of this, I told them to not complain about orders again, and gave them a simple order to do (setting up shields) At this time, they did so, only to return later to not only break the orders given to them by the AI, but to also continue to complain for no real reason, since I have moved on from then and they were just in robotics socializing with their friend. If they didn't mean to cause an issue and complain like they told Dwrago why would they do so in every instance, especially when the orders from the AI are in no way Draconian or overtly bad. I'm sure they will post Contextless screen grabs, but I assure you that the server logs will be needed to tell the entire story.

[Denied] Bygonehero Command Whitelist
Bygonehero replied to Bygonehero's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
You don't have the logs. You are assuming the screen grabs that they post convey the entire story. If you are going to assume stuff like that, You should have proof, I know I did when I made such a claim that you posted in your staff complaint. The previous affirmations to my AI play disagree with you and I don't particularly believe anything you say -

Also incorrect. If you had the ahelp logs and the logs themselves you would see that in every instance they escalated it. Would love to see where you are pulling the proof from. -

Bygonehero replied to Bygonehero's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I had no idea who plays Pennant prior to them even mentioning here. I play my AIs generally very seriously in respect to the laws. I do not ask much of people when I play AI, and what I asked of them wasn't even that restrictive. The situation is misrepresented and logs would certainly clear up. All of this hounding on me is pretty ridiculous. They ignored orders and it escalated icly. I ahelped because they shouldnt be ignoring orders. What OOC motives would I have against some player who I don't know beyond playing my character. -

I did not seek you out via DMS, slinging accusations and assumptions because of a game, no. In fact, it shouldn't have involved you at all, since it had nothing to do with you. You did it because your OOC friend told you, probably in looc or via discord. -
[Denied] Bygonehero Command Whitelist
Bygonehero replied to Bygonehero's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Its worthy to note, that @Scheveningen was the scientist that Contextual was roleplaying with, their friend in round. Schev felt so strongly for the situation that they harassed me via DM's after the round. I welcome any administrator to look at the logs to verify what was said here. -
[Denied] Bygonehero Command Whitelist
Bygonehero replied to Bygonehero's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Where to start. First, to my knowledge I did not receive a note for this circumstance. I had asked you to select Engineering or Construction because we had only one engineer. Not only did you not do that, but you also were idle in RnD, socializing. This is in itself not egregious, since you did explain that you were aiding the scientist nor did I particularly take offense to you already ignoring an order given to you. Then the scientist summoned me to tell me off, which tells me that you were complaining about even being questioned on what you were doing. A stationbound complaining about a job its given is pretty poor synthetic role play. It is not a realistic character to play an overly emotional machine that balks at receiving simple orders from its overseeing AI. @kyres1 @Iron Chaos and @DRagO can verify. After this, I ahelped and the mod @DRagO informed me that you were new to station bound and didn't mean for it to come across as a complaint towards the scientist. In any event, the criticisms leveled at me by simply tasking a robot, (Which is what the AI is suppose to do) and ignoring of my previous orders told me that you were borderline malfunctioning. I ordered you to do the job I had originally intended for you, to setup the shields. I also forbade you from complaining about receiving orders again. Note, at this point I did not tell you to cease socializing with the scientist. After you setup the shield settings and returned to socializing with your scientist, I caught you, doing exactly what I told you not to do. Complain about being told not to complain. Further, when I informed you of this privately via our binary chat, you told the scientist , which ended up sending alot of the crew in a fit once they told the public. At this point, I informed Drago that you lied to them, because it is obvious from the logs that you did. Further, due to your consistent rule violations from even the most basic of orders given to you, ICIy I decided to separate you from the object of your fixation, and I gave you a task to keep you busy, because at this point, due to the constant violations I was convinced you were malfunctioning. At this point, I continued to discuss the issue with Drago, who conceded that you were in the wrong, but said that "sometimes people just don't want to do their jobs" They asked me to go easy on you, and so I did. I told you that after you installed that last camera, you could go back to doing what you were doing but just to start no more problems. `` "Once you have installed the last two cameras you have I will lift your restrictions. Do not fight me again. Do not endeavor to get around me or manipulate the users by leveraging your social status. I am aware of such things, but moreso, its completely needless. Simple tasks are a given, but I dont much care if you socialize after they are complete."`` Its worthy to note, another synthetic played this round, and they had no issues with my character Gungnir because they did try to do basics expected of them when asked. You approach every interaction we had with bad faith, and was overly emotional for no good reason. Being told to setup the shields and explain what you are doing is nothing big, but you made a big deal of it and leveraged your friendship with this scientist as a way to win an argument. This is terrible, terrible synthetic roleplay. -
Coalf's Human Deputy Application
Bygonehero replied to Coalf's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Coalf is a writer that likes to challenge preconceptions and the ideas many people take for granted. This makes them a great person to bounce ideas off of. They are the only person I have ever went to in the past to proof my own work prior to publication. I have never been so mixed about another developer, but I am aware that most of the time, if criticisms make you laugh, they are wrong, but if they make you mad, they are right. Coalf is an excellent writer, and from my many projects with them I have no doubt in their ability or their passion for the job. In the past, we may have argued consistently, but in that arrangement we make each other better. I have no doubt they will contribute meaningfully to any team they decide to be a part of. -
@PoZe I dont think it should be something team antagonists should be able to op out of. As otherwise they cannot coordinate with the rest of their team.

[ACCEPTED]Roostercat's Vaurca Application
Bygonehero replied to Roostercat's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Application accepted! I really wanta see how your character develops, and a key part of that development will be how your character obtains their avowal. -
Looks like its gonna get merged despite dissenting opinions ☹️. I suggest making the staff have a long cooldown, so it cant be used as a weapon. Next, make the transformation delayed, maybe giving the player some emotes. @ParadoxSpace What do you think

This is a very good application, and the approach you have and the reason your character has for coming to the Aurora is certainly interesting. I cant wait to see this character in action. I love creative writing, and this certainly showcases creative thinking! Application accepted! -
[Denied] Bygonehero Command Whitelist
Bygonehero replied to Bygonehero's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
The OOC purpose of a head of staff in game is to drive round narrative. Driving round narrative is an umbrella term that includes but is not limited to; Recognizing and responding to antagonist activity, Promoting and developing realistic expectations in your department and with other players, thus increasing immersion. Promoting inclusive roleplaying, in yourself and other players, allowing them and yourself involved in the activities of a round in a realistic manner to make more dynamic and enjoyable roleplaying experiences for everyone. Roleplaying in abstract is recognizing that you are a part in the narrative of a larger story, and that by your actions, your relationships, your behaviors, you become small parts in the larger web of a story. Effecting and being effected by others, crafting a narrative together for the enjoyment of everyone roleplaying. -
BYOND key: BygoneHero Character names: I also play as the AI Ancillary, Cynosure, Mum, LORE, BEDLAM How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I don't remember how long, maybe since 2014-2015? Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: To play the hive representative role that I helped design Why did you come to Aurora?: Because I was looking for a certain kind of role playing experience, and where-ever I went it seemed to vanish over time, Apollo,Paradise are a few servers I've been on. Aurora has not yet lost qualities I am looking for, and I have become active in the community to ensure that it never does. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?:Yes Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?I've been permabanned before and probably others, they were a long time ago I cannot remember. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplaying is inhabiting a characters persona outside or parallel to your own. While also developing the role to eventually include tangential things outside of the scope of our games code. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: To drive round narrative, but I do not intend to play a head of staff, of my years playing this game, I have never had an urge to. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I've written about this extensively, and I believe the OCC responsibilities of whitelisted players are as I said, to try and move a rounds arc along. If the crux of the antagonists plot is to rely on the ineptitude of a head of staff, then the head of staff should realize that, and adjust themselves accordingly. However, in practice this is not what happens. Antagonists are shut down more often than not as quickly as can be done, sometimes without even most of the crew even being aware of the antagonists existence. Perhaps this is a result of how heavily we push command staff to behave within IC parameters that do not agree with our expectations of their role OOC. If the role a head of staff has to play in a round requires them to be lenient, they should be so. If it requires them to be ruthless, they should be so. The adherence to regulation is in of itself a flaw in how heads of staff are treated. It prevents them from roleplaying the best case scenario for that particular round. Couple this with them having something to lose, and you have created the very thing we as a community do not want from their heads of staff, Command that shuts down a round before it has a chance to even begin. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? The arrival of the Lii'dra has sent the Zo'ra hive into overdrive. It has caused them to bury their enclaves deeper into the economic web work of humanity. This has manifested as more low cost labor being outsourced to their hive, while also promoting the TCFL as part of a long term goal to dilute humanities influence within Tau Ceti. By getting more aliens patriotic for Tau Ceti, over time, human sociopolitical dominance will wane. This is made manifest within my character, as Ta'Akaix'Xaol Zo'ra as a new hive representative for the Nanotrasen Megacorporation. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Counsel/Corporate Liaison Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Ta'Akaix'Xaol Zo'ra, Counsel/Corporate Liaison How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Between 800 Florps and 4000 Dorps Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action?Yes Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes Extra notes:

Robotics Layout Suggestion + Additional Tool Request
Bygonehero replied to niennab's topic in Archive
This reads to me like, "I like this design and I am tired of building it myself for 10 minutes every time I play roboticist :(" The current design is fine. Suggestions like removing the morgue and conveyor belt I could get behind though.
