Possibly some more rat mechanics?

okay, i know this is kinda silly, but i'm sad sometimes when i wanna observe or be a nuisance and everything as a rat is just so limited. i know that it's not a serious role, but i don't see the harm in making them just a touch more believable.

one of my biggest pet peeves is that people love picking up rats and just... crushing them to death in their hands. i can get that maybe for someone with a hunting instinct, like cat or lizard folk, but humans? you would think a rat would at least be able to bite someone who picks them up, right? i sure as hell wouldn't go picking up some random rat that just happened to crawl out of a vent near me. it gives the rat a chance to escape (because right now once you're picked up you're at the mercy of whoever is holding you) and it gives incentive to not just run up and pick up a wild ass rat ohmygod

also more things to mess with crew, like not immediately dying upon trying to chew some wires, would be neat. then it'll be like maintenance drones vs rats. just a suggestion, don't really care about that too much.

does anyone else have any suggestions? i had some talk with some folks in deadchat (after being crushed to death) about rat mechanics and ways to improve them but, well. i kinda forgot.

Although I try to accommodate mice when they hang around, 80% of the time I've found that they prove to be a nuisance whether by spamming the chat by bumping into doors or eating boxes. I feel like giving a bite ability to mice will take away how a mouse should behave, which would be wary of anything that moves.

As far as I'm concerned, the only thing that should be done with the rat role is that it should be completely removed from the game, because 9/10 rats you see are just shitters. Why we have a role that exists solely to enable shittery I don't know, but yeah. They don't need mechanics to make them even worse, no thanks. -1

To be honest I'd rather they were changed to a different creature and given different mechanics.

Picture this: Slurgs - a species of mollusc from Jargon that thrive in space stations and ships. Depending on what we prefer they can leave a slime trail which is what makes them a pest. When squashed they leave a gooey mess. The slime and goo lore wise make you ill (vomiting). Mechanics wise they can attack each other but no other mob. Eating gives them "biomass". They can lay eggs which mechanically can be used to spawn as a Slurg. They lay eggs after they've acquired enough biomass. They can use biomass to create nests. Nests can be broken and their pieces cooked into a dish perhaps, perhaps they can be grinded for biomass. If picked up and grinded down they leave the biomass they contained thus while a pest they can be utilised by the crew. They can't chew through boxes or anything. They can squeeze under doors and through vents.

I'd like it if we took away the ability to pick up mice and crush them or wear them.

Maybe a short action timer to crush them people don't just spam it and kill them instantly.

This. I've always wanted the things gone for the above reasons, only barely tolerated them in the past because I enjoyed the RP touches they added to certain (long gone) characters who were a joy to interact with (and that was those characters being great, not the mice themselves). A majority of them are greytide-tier annoying and absolutely don't need further buffs than they've had.
