Roostercat Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 The dance floor refers to the tiles in the bar, shown here: But Why? Personally, I think its an eyesore. It doesn't fit the wooden floor red couch aesthetic of the room, and when its turned on its sortof just painful to look at. This would be fine if it saw regular use, but I personally have never seen someone actually use it outside of making a dick with the lights for the funny. A LOT of visual noise for not much in the way of RP benefit. Obviously, I can't suggest we just flat remove it and leave it at that, as it leads a TON of empty space in the middle of the bar/kitchen area. So, some suggestions to replace it include: - More smaller tables, to complete a dining room aesthetic. - One BIG table, similar to the big feast table in the holodeck, for gatherings (bonus points that its right next to the kitchen too!) -A pair of couches that make a circle, to make a sort of lounge spot These are just three recommendations, though obviously anyone can suggest more. Hell, if people REAAAALLY want a dance floor, you could just move it to the secondary bar room here: No idea what the general consensus is on this, so its gonna' be a suggestion and not me throwing money at someone to make a PR. Yet. 3
Ramke Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 The dance floor is good at giving you eye strain. I would like to see it replaced with literally anything else, personally. A random idea, but a mini holodeck to set up a few tables/a large "feast" table/piano/etc would be somewhat cool, but not sure if that's too much. 1
CatsinHD Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 The only interaction I have had with the dance floor beyond ignoring it is making an H for Horizon. During the remapping, the idea of putting a tree where the dance floor is was thrown around. I would love the return of Patience, but if that isn't being considered then some more greenery or a mini-holodeck as Ramke said.
Desven Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 Probably unrelated, but why is the new bar so hidden from this room? I wish it had a door or something so the bartender could deliver your drinks while you chill at the big room.
WickedCybs Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 I liked the original design that had the tree where the dance floor was atm. 1
Roostercat Posted May 3, 2023 Author Posted May 3, 2023 I think Big Tree™ is also a pretty good idea, if not the big feast table.
Dreamix Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 (edited) https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/16290 Put up a PR to replace it with a bigger table. I don't like the look of the tree being put there, cause like. Tree in a dining room. A big tree. It's weird. Edited May 3, 2023 by Dreamix
niennab Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 I like the open space of the dance floor but we could do with simply having a different tileset so it has the vibe of an open space without the RGB lights or bring back the tree. Personally I'm not a fan of the weird long table in the center of the room.
Dreamix Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 If anyone has any other ideas, or better sprites for the dance floor, I'd be fine with it. Personally I do not like the tree there. It just looks silly, in the middle of the dining room, with how huge the sprite is. It looks as if our rooms had absurdly high ceilings, like 10 meters or something. If someone made a smaller sprite for the tree, I'd be fine with it I guess. I'd love a small holodeck with different service themed rooms there (dining room, piano, dance floor, etc), but I don't really feel like code digging to figure out how to add a third holodeck. Anyone else could also open up another PR with the tree.
Carver Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 I think it's the perfect place for Patience. That earlier remapping thread that had an iteration with patience, some grass/shrubbery and a bit of water was perfect. It gives it an open, natural 'atrium' sort of feel that is precisely the place my characters would like to hang around. 4 hours ago, Dreamix said: Personally I do not like the tree there. Consider also that the bridge above it has a very raised center floor, and the thought of tall ceilings in that service area isn't quite strange at all.
DronzTheWolf Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 While I do have some complaints about the new bar design, the dance floor is the largest of them. Anything else in it's place would be better.
La Villa Strangiato Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 I agree with GMR on the idea of an atrium space; I miss Patience dearly and I think putting it right in the center would be a great spot if it was more of a little garden. I honestly don't see a lot of the side tables getting used either, so I'm not opposed to some of them being replaced with plants and stuff. I drafted up a little floor plan here to see what it might look like. I think you could take out the wall in the back and just have a floor transition to the area to make it feel more open. 2
Sheeplets Posted May 6, 2023 Posted May 6, 2023 Please don't put a massive tree in the middle of the room. It's just going to take up space in one of the common areas where you'd expect people to be end up packed into more often than not. I like Dreamix's idea of just replacing the dance floor with the table. It's practical and it makes sense for where it's at. 3
Fluffy Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 The PR has been merged, the dance floor is gone, and therefore this suggestion is considered implemented. Locking and archiving.
