Put Revolution mode into the secret rotation.

One suggestion per thread is a rule of the forum anyway, but i also didn't want to lump this in with the ninja thread, because i'm sure people have varying feelings between these two modes.

Revolution is actually my favourite mode of all. I do always join the loyalists, but that's a personal preference.

The ability of both sides to recruit, sometimes ends up turning it into a massive bloody war. But one thing i really like about it is the fact that you can see other members of your faction, so you know with certainty who your friends are. I like that certainty, it's something so rarely found in antag rounds.

It's the only mode (when you're not an antag) where you can know with certainty who you can trust, and i find that opens up a lot of interesting RP possibilites across departments. It's a rare example of a kind of conflict which can drive people together, rather than apart.

I feel like i've gotten to know Milo Hachert a lot better after our last round together as loyalist. In fact i usually seem to make a new friend or two every rev round.

Getting a specific antag round voted for is near impossible though, so we only see it rarely. Some people have voiced balance concerns about the mode, and i wouldn't mind seeing them addressed, but that's a matter for a different thread. Even in it's current form, i think it's good and engaging, and i'd like to see it more often.

Please make it a randomly selectable mode, as part of the Secret rotation

I find revolution to be one of the best game modes when it comes to broadening play to everyone. It also fits well with the corporate grimdark setting.

I'd be glad to see this.

Viva la Revolucíon!

Revolution is a terrible, prolonged game mode that heavily favors one side (loyalists) and inevitably devolves into an all out murderbrawl, with a twenty minute shuttle timer for basically no logical reason and many recalls.

I unilaterally reject this idea. Keep rev vote-only so I can leave if it comes up before wasting time thinking it might be an actually good round type.

Further, let me point out something you seem to be missing through your nostalgia glasses. While it is possible to have a good experience in any round type, that is not actually indicative that the round type is conductive to good roleplay. Those are individual experiences, not collective ones. In revolution, any and all members of the crew can become antagonists. The more antagonists you have in a given round, the higher the chance is that you will have someone who turns it into a murderbrawl because they like it that way. And there are always going to be people who just follow a mob mentality and join in when the fighting starts. The round type simply encourages too much potential murderbone, and as neither side is given any kinds of tools or advantages, the one who grabs security (usually loyalist) already has a massive advantage over the other side that is nearly impossible to overcome without cargo or science cooperating by ordering/printing you weapons. And once you start doing that, murderbrawl happens.

Can we have mutiny? Because the objectives make it so much better.

I've gotta say. Objectives to make Revolution/Mutiny because right now for Revolution. No one knows what's going on now or why they're rebelling.

I think Revolution is an excellent gamemode but it has many problems:

  • What happens when there's no heads
  • What happens when you can't come up with a reason to riot
  • What happens when you can't RP recruit anyone and immediately get thrown in security

There should be objective, a better way of gaining recuits (re-education machine?) and possibly automated centcomm messages like in malf along the lines of "Your pay has been suspended until a time TBD" "The following employees: X, Y and Z are now terminated".

I played a rev round with no heads so I tried to turn it into a "there tekin ar jerbs" and rebel against all IPCs and cyborgs. Objectives like that could be fun.

As long as they removed the forceful conversions via flashes in Rev and it's just the purely RP-Rev verb-based method of "Would you like to join the filthy revolution, yes/no" then this sounds dandy. More interesting than cult, atleast.

For the above, if you can't recruit anyone then you need to work on your charisma, it isn't difficult to rile up the crew over the smallest shit as everyone has an inherent greytide mentality inside them. Forced conversions will just lead to people getting salty.

No, not really.

And neither cult nor rev are forced. They haven't been forced conversion for a long time.

First, you underestimate people. Truly.

Second, Cult is forced. You either suffer incredible amounts of burn damage for saying no that can be spammed to kill you, or, you're forced into a construct from which the only escape is ghosting or purposefully being really terrible at your job when you're inevitably sent to kill someone. Might I add being made into a construct permakills you, too. Everything about Cult recruition is forced aside from the people who purposefully seek and join them so they can put security to the sword or summon he-who-ends-all-rounds.

Never even played this, but it sounds like a lot of fun. Are there two factions that both recruit people to their side, or something similar?

You're on point.

Two factions -

Loyalists Vs. Rebels/Revolutionaries

Loyalists are loyal to NanoTrasen and gets the job done.

Rebels are people who doesn't want to do what NanoTrasen do. (REBEL SCUM)

Three factions, actually.

Loyalists------Rebels

-------\Neutrals/-------

The neutrals are normal people, they don't want the kill the filthy mutineers but they also want to keep their jobs, and consists of the recruiting pool for the Loyalists and Rebels.

Unsubverted synths are also part of the neutrals with a leaning towards Loyalists but Loyalists can go a bit too far with their stuff, which is fine, but also makes the synths not true Loyalists.

In this thread: Everyone agrees something very simple to implement would be fantastic but nothing ever happens.

Don't be silly.

This is probably a simple change, but it's also a big one. I'll ask skull if its okay, and if so i can make the change

I'll +1 this as well. I haven't seen a single Rev round on this server as it is. Not that I've been here very long or anything, but still...

Anyway, I like Rev because the antags depend so much on teamwork. They fail a lot because of this, but when they succeed it's pretty awesome.

Oh, but you'd need to make sure it can't be selected when there's fewer than two, maybe three heads.

I will also +1 this. The potential RP from conflicts like this would be great to character development. Especially if you already have characters that are highly critical of NT. Plus lets be honest. Not a lot of people even know what most of the Gamemodes are. Adding more to Secret would give a bit of diversity.

Secret mode rotations are decided by config files, which a developer can't access, so i have no means to implement it.

I've mentioned it to skull, but he's unsure.

Ill talk with skull about this once he's back from his roadtrip (maybe even earlier), technically I have access to the config but this is skulls domain.

I support this idea btw.

Also, it happened in the past, it will happen again, sometimes CCIA will give the crew a reason to riot.
