DronzTheWolf Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 (edited) Before you all spout 'there's too many guns already' I know, that's not a problem. The more the merrier. Now that that's out of the way, here's my gun concepts (Sprites included). Vintage Machine Gun: An LMG for Merc/Raider to use. It would cost a good amount of TCs and be about as rare as the Merc assault rifle in Raider spawns. Fires in 7.62 and had 40 round magazines. Pictured below: And the second in this post, the Semi-Auto Rifle. A Cargo orderable or Raider spawn, it fires semi-auto 5.56. 18 round magazines, pictured below: I decided to make another sprite for the Semi-Auto, with a synthetic stock and grip instead. Thoughts and feedback are welcome. Remember, it's okay to disagree. Disagreement makes progress. Edited March 17, 2018 by Guest
BurgerBB Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 They are well made but I don't think they match the style of the current guns. It can easily be fixed, however.
DronzTheWolf Posted March 17, 2018 Author Posted March 17, 2018 They are well made but I don't think they match the style of the current guns. It can easily be fixed, however. Odd. I modified them heavily from guns that already exist in-code, but I suppose minor adjustments won't hurt. Anything in specific you noticed?
DronzTheWolf Posted March 17, 2018 Author Posted March 17, 2018 I was tied between wooden and synthetic framing for the semi-auto, I might go back and change it to synthetic cover.
geeves Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 I spoke a bit with Dronz in Discord about the guns, suggesting recolouring the yellow to blue for a more sec feel, which I feel they achieved really well! I also believe that it'd be really damn neato for Mercs / Raiders to have additional ballistics, that might turn the gameplay from "Stealth until we're caught, then have a pathetic shootout in a hallway" to "Holy shit, these guys are Mercenaries sent to really screw us up!". Besides that, I also think the sprites are wonderfully done, and fits the aesthetic we currently have regarding guns.
AmoryBlaine Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 These are neat, I really would like to see them used. Add more variety to the world of guns.
Coalf Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Well the question is, what do they offer? Like why would I take that instead of the trusted Bulldog or the Traitor gun? You could make them stronger but that just results in powercreep and if you make them weaker, well who'll use them? Plus WHO will use them? Will they just sit on theirr ass in code unloved and unwanted? Raiders, I mean raiders get a fuckton of random guns already there would be a minimal chance of these spawning. WHY exactly would we get these guns outside of "I want them" and "It won't hurt anyone," because I feel like the code is already cluttered with plenty of un-used sprites.
DronzTheWolf Posted March 19, 2018 Author Posted March 19, 2018 Well the question is, what do they offer? Like why would I take that instead of the trusted Bulldog or the Traitor gun? The LMG is used with the long burst to suppress the enemy and keep them back, good for covering a retreat or heralding a charge. It's a support weapon to be used with a team, so it goes to team antags. Not for solo traitors, so it wouldn't be chosen over the traitor gun. As for the bulldog/bullpup, well, everyone knows the shotgun meta will eventually be nerfed to ass, so people will start exploring new options. This could be one of said options, a semi-auto rifle to be used instead of the burst rifles. Make it notably cheaper than the bullpup and bulldog and it'd get attention.
Coalf Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Well one bulldog isn't a shotgun and two we already have an LMG that functions exactly the same way as yours.
Arrow768 Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 I dont think that the raiders have access to the mg right now. So there could be a usecase for a mg-light that has less damage output and less ammo than the normal mg but can still serve as a area denial weapon due to its multiple shots, spread and rather large magazine
DronzTheWolf Posted March 19, 2018 Author Posted March 19, 2018 I dont think that the raiders have access to the mg right now. Only ERT has access to the SAW/LMG when admins open the blast door for it iirc, and I'm pretty sure the SAW has a 60 round magazine. My concept for the LMG is supposed to be a less impressive area-denial weapon for team-based antags.
DronzTheWolf Posted March 20, 2018 Author Posted March 20, 2018 Update: The SAW in code uses 7.62. I thought it used 5.56, but it's not really that big of a problem. LMGs can only fire in short bursts and long bursts, making them pretty useless for solo antags, so team antag only still goes. The semi-auto is supposed to replace the bulldog for Security so they can't get ERT-Level assault rifles (Which really doesn't make sense, the station isn't supposed to be able to become ERT by ordering tacarmor and bulldogs imo) and I'm still open to discussion on how this could impact gameplay. Since the meta is still settling after the new weapons update, I am hoping we'll come to a decision before it does and upset it once more.
Fox009 Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 I would like to see a greater variety of firearms and would even help to contribute them. However, on another note, we probably shouldn't be replacing anything just for the sake of replacing things.
DronzTheWolf Posted April 7, 2018 Author Posted April 7, 2018 However, on another note, we probably shouldn't be replacing anything just for the sake of replacing things. The Bulldog will still be available for ERT, I just don't want Sec getting ERT-level gear because it pretty much nullifies the need for an ERT.
CommanderXor Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Is that an FN-FAL/SLR I see? My inner Rhodie just squealed. I think some more variety in the weapons besides the usual SMG/sniper/crossbow we see during heister rounds would be nice and it's always nice to see some new rifles in merc besides the constant assault rifle spam.
DronzTheWolf Posted April 9, 2018 Author Posted April 9, 2018 Is that an FN-FAL/SLR I see? My inner Rhodie just squealed. It is indeed based heavily on the FAL, although it's going to be only semi-automatic.
DronzTheWolf Posted May 23, 2018 Author Posted May 23, 2018 The Time has come to drag this to relevancy again with another gun this time (gasp) The Lever Rifle A vintage lever-action rifle popular with hunters in the frontier. Fires .357 (or .38, I realize, is similar enough.) caliber rounds. It holds 10, and cannot be fired with one hand.
DronzTheWolf Posted May 23, 2018 Author Posted May 23, 2018 no The future is now, old man. You people buffed it to brokenness, you can deal with the consequence that most small-medium game lever-actions shoot big-bore pistol rounds.
