  1. 1. Homosexuality Is it needed? I can't speak for the intent of people who added it and approved of it being added way back when I wasn't around. You’d have to ask them. Do I and why believe it's needed? Because the factions aren’t supposed to be morally justifiable from a player standpoint. Being ostracized from society for something that is, not your own fault, is something a large part of the player base can relate to. This theme is further strengthened in the racism against Zhan, which a lot of people seem to permeate and allow without any issues. These issues should not be morally justifiable by a 2019 human, that’s the point, they ain’t 2019 humans they’re aliens cats for god’s sake Montresor. Why not just retcon it? People have been causing a big humbug over retcons for one. For two, retconning something because it is morally dubious is fucking stupid. There are plenty of issues on our server that are morally disgusting that people have zero issue with because they can’t relate to it, and so they consider it “foreign” and “okay”. Untouchables, murder, robbery, piracy, slavery, eugenics, all of these things are romanticised in our lore and roleplayed just fine by the same people who raise taj as a big issue. Yes, in the future I believe human ideas will show themselves more and more on Tajara culture, ICly, through articles and lore development. Why force me to? I’d agree if this was the default species, but you have to choose to play Tajara and understand the burden they come with. Not only that, you can play a gay/non-phobe Tajara. You just have to aknowledge it's not the norm. If you aren’t comfortable with playing a character who is prosecuted for his sexuality I’d recommend playing one of the following: Aut’akh, Elyrian, Eridanians, Skrell, Dionaea, Mictlanians, Solians, Dominians, Off-worlders, Scarabs, IPCs, Frontiersmen, Martians, Venusians and more. 2. Factions Loyalists? Nobody is forcing them to, but playing a character that is opposed to the majority of crew opinion is what provides a huge amount of roleplaying. Where gears grind, conflict arises and having a conflicting character is good for the server-culture as whole. Plus, people have been playing these characters for centuries but only now people are aware of this? It just proves that this is a fad, and when people find the next big thing to be outraged about they'll forget this. People dropping Tajara because of baggage? It’s not for everyone. Some people don’t want to play them because they’re space cats, I don’t take that away from them. PRA consular? And I have met a few that have helped people with their visas and working conditions. It’s a culture that is alien in a familiar way. I don’t see people bashing vaurca breeders for how their society is nothing more than a top-down monarchy with lobotomized slave-caste. Which I think is a fault, people can’t associate themselves with these problems, so they don’t care about them, they care about Tajara problems. That’s good! They should! It shows that people are engaging with both the good parts and evil parts of lore instead of just ignoring one side of the argument. Bad opinions? Read above. To summarize everything above: (if you don't like reading, just look at this) Factions shouldn’t be held to the standard for 2019 societal norms, doubly so if they’re alien. If people don’t feel comfortable with playing an ostracized homosexual, don’t play Tajara. People are not forbidden from playing a gay/non-phobe Tajara, just don’t pretend like it’s normal. Playing an evil/bigoted/hateful/homophobic/pirate/mafia/guwan/corporatists character is okay. If there are issues permeating Tajara lore, it’s to do with the sheer amount of lore not homophobia.

  3. Okay understandable, thanks for the reply.
  4. I know most of these questions are intended for Alberyk to answer but I just want to ask so I know the intent. Tajara have been this way for about 4-6 years back when other people were lore developers/Lore master, and you say you wanted to apply for a long time but you also say you don't like how the lore presents itself. I think I'm understanding this wrong but you wanted to apply to a species whose lore you don't like or is it something that has been recently happening/trending with the playerbase?
  5. Okay so, everyone knows that FT, Elyra, Mars etc. are factions that have been kinda left in the dust to make space to complaint about Sol for nearly two years, and you know I like that people in the new applications seem to be focusing on those and really giving it a big think. But I think there is too much human lore right now. Overall humanity is split into 6 factions with each factions having at least 1 or 2 sub-factions and Sol having a whopping 8 unique cultural factions. (Mictlan, Venus, Mars etc.) What do you think about this? Aren't you a bit worried that adding culture to FT is just going to go un-addressed by the playerbase simply because there is such a giant plethora to pick from? Do you think this should ever be addressed or that certain sub-factions should be cut out to make information flow easier? What's your overall opinion on this b...b.....bloat?
  6. Big essay, very nice, not really my thing personally but it's not badly writen and it's cohesive. Although big question everyone is going to ask, do you plan to change anything about IPCs? There is a lot of talk about "uniting themes", about "limiting player freedom", where do you stand? More in favor of retcons and enforcement of lore to make IPC's have their "Own identity" or are you more about the "IPCs are fine right now they just need some fixing here and there"?
  7. Cheers Tesla Trooper Did you invite me on this station just to make fun of me?
  8. Yes, what skull said essentially. Rewrites are from my experience, rarely employed on a large scale. Usually they involve a bunch of smaller steps in changing the trajectory the projectile was taking initially, specifically because large scale rewrites get people angry. In this way, It would be better to establish what constitutes as "large enough" to warrant an announcement. Dionaea are a good example of this, but same can be said about the wasteland rework or my S'rrendar and Messa rework. Filling in the blanks can be just as much of a rewrite for some people as is just redoing text. So the question is, do we announce it for those kinds of people too or not? Also what would happen to lore_canonizations, quite a hefty amount of those are rewrites but they are left out on the lore_can forum for weeks, months or even years and having to spend another week seems redundant. On that note I'd like to specify how this would be done, another discord server? Announcements on the server itself? A sub-forum where these changes get announced beofrehand? Putting it into the lore_diary? I am not opposed to this idea but I think the suggestion that is up right now is too hasty and not fleshed out.
  9. What would this encapsulate though? There are a lot of things that get changed in lore which could be considered "soft" rewrites or retcons which can still chuff people. Sometimes even slight wording changes can make a difference in how people view things. If something like this were to be considered, then I believe it would also need a clear defined line of what is to be reported this way and what not, or at the very least a guideline by the heads. Since having people announce every few weeks they're rewriting something in lore channel or lore diary is just going to lead to people muting it.
  10. I think this is an important lesson about impermanance.

It appears the steaks have been raised.
  12. Alberyk can be fairly hard to communicate it, I appropriate a large part of that to the sheer scope of responsibilities that lay on his shoulders and so whenever he views something as "minor" or "unimportant", he tends to get dismissive which can come off as uncaring and insulting. Yet this dismissivness gives a sign that he actually does care quite a lot about Tajara lore and server, but he chooses to show it by simply shutting down arguments that could spiral out into drama with a no-nonsense attitude. Further, he remember a lot and while I personally believe he sometimes impacts themes for the sake of things being fun or station-integral I ultimately cannot say that's a negative thing, in the end the lore serves to service the game and server and making a fuckton of lore that cannot be linked back to the station is completely pointless. He has an intensive backlog of work, every aspect of Tajara lore he has introduced has been welcomed by the Tajara community as positive, his characters often link back and use lore in a manner that is engaging and whenever me or mofo introduced a part of lore he's made sure to shape his vision around it. To summarize, while his no-nonsense attitude can get annoying, I've never found it egregious enough to complain in any major way or for it to impact me or my work. Alberyk has the drive, the skill and the know-how to drive Tajara lore forward in the right direction and he's been a big part of tajara lore development for a major time.

  17. Behind the Mask: Fareeda Del Nova, Entertainer with a Deadly Background! - Writen by Sceeter Heldin, a Journalist Mayor from the College of Biesel - Edited by Tumar Kor Fareeda Del Nova (Nova) Dangers are ever present on the frontier, be it hazardous flora, fauna or pirates and the lack of a truly united government is the most evident in these cases. This opens the way for third parties, looking to gain a money and win some good reputation for themselves too. The Colonial Protection Service also known as CPS, stood out among these as they also provided a live-feed from the cabins of their pilots, turning their danger into peoples entertainment. Eventually as tensions settled the CPS took on safer and safer jobs, basically becoming a reality TV show rather than a protection firm. This resulted in them hiring less and less qualified mech pilots, instead focusing on entertainers and influencers instead. Fareeda Del Nova, going by the nickname Nova online, was always a very prominent influencer. Her Spacetube channel entertained thousands with both her looks and her knowledge of cars. She joined the CPS as soon as she could, as she reckoned that cars were not that far from Mechs in terms of driving. However, soon afterwards the Unathi Hegemony had decided to expand and CPS was required to adhere to its contracts and protect colonies which had signed an agreement with them. This forced many , pilots which had no real prior combat experience into, deadly situations, one of these pilots was miss Nova herself. Many pilots were wounded or killed in action, said to behave like headless chickens. In an attempt to protect their reputation, the CPS decided to broadcast "Edited" streams of these mech pilots, intertwining dangerous and lethal situations with canned laughter and humorous captions. This did not go well with the general public and the CPS was disbanded shortly after. As of now miss Nova helps raise charity for the society of "Soldiers without Banners", a solidary group that helps veterans coming from private millitary backgrounds or security firms which were dispanded. Despite her popularity, miss Nova lives in squalid conditions, divulging on camera that her days on the field made her "get used to it" and that she "preffers it this way". Further her popularity has proven a deadly trap, as a stunt pilot in her mech dubbed "Hopper" she is required to keep her neural arm implants, leaving her with the growing chance that one day she might wake up with inoperable arms. If you want to help folks like miss Fareeda Del Nova, please donate to one of the many charities or help raise awareness by sharing this article. Hopper ( Cossack Mark. IV) The Cossack Mark. IV combines high speed and powerful energy shielding into a deadly combination. Often reffered to as "Frontier's Doorknockers", these mechs are best utilized in urban situations, cave-systems and speedy scouts. Nothing is perfect, and the Cossack is no exception. Its speed and shielding drains the battery very quickly and it also has, what at the time could be considered a boast, an arm neural interface. While this interface provides perfect feedback and hand-to-eye coordination, it also means that the pilot can take 5-6 minutes of unplugging before he can safely leave the suit. This naturally conflicts with the safety system, which is a simple ejection system that automatically activates if the mech is compromised, shooting the pilot out of the mech immediatly. Further, the sensitivity sensors implemented into these machines that provide feedback to the pilot are told to give off an "unpleasant feeling" when the arms are damaged, and as studies show pilots with such implants run the risk of losing feeling in their hands and fingers. This one is modified by the pilot to feature red cushioning and a spray painted symbols specific to the pilot.
  18. Very cool
  19. what Could you elaborate, do you mean like players don't play the species so other players don't play the species? Wouldn't be that the result of the lore/idea of it being un-interesting because there is not even that initial spark of interest from curious people on the server? Also do you ever plan on expanding on the idea of how Dionaea actually integrate into society, get doctorates and who like funs their colleges and stuff? That whole subject has been mostly avoided and as a result a lot of dionaea backstories end up with "And then he did a thing and was in NT because a reason". Which is really hard to from a command/security/medical perspective.
  20. Sleepy is a very exciting person to work with, they're capable of taking very barebones ideas and ping-ponging them around with others until they take a full shape which everyone is satisfied with. While I've worked minimally with sleepy on the official lore team, I've talked to sleepy in private multiple times and can attest that they're a very good person when it comes to understanding themes and establishing story structures/overarching ideas. However, if I remember correctly, Sleepy has a bit of a habit of jumping into lore and jumping out every so often. So I'd like to ask, can we expect that here or is this a more mainstay application? Second, suppose that right now some mysterious skeleton appears and says that all of your mechanical proposals are outright denied right here and now due to would you continue with your application or would that be a deal breaker?
