  1. General Changes Your default damage, and dodge and block chance are very low by default. Further, you take significantly increased damage. These factors can be improved by certain modifiers, but in your default state you are very fragile and very weak. Blows have a slightly longer 'wait' period between each strike. Combat Aim Combat Aim is your way of 'picking your target' in combat. It has no visible effect other than you turning to face someone. You will not turn away from that person until combat aim is disabled (or you use face-direction), either manually or by them leaving your frame of vision, and will move slightly slower than usual if you're not on help intent. If you're combat aiming at someone, it basically boosts your damage, hit chance + damage, and block/dodge chance against that person up to 'acceptable' levels. In this, dodge and block chances are higher than they are now, and damage is scaled alongside this, to make hits rarer but more damaging. Factors Factors are five numbers that change during combat depending on your intent/movement. Examples FAQ Thanks to Mwahahahaha, Schev, Exia, ShameOnTurtles, and Catnip for feedback. No thanks at all to Aboshehab. Any questions, feedback, suggestions, etc., please go ahead.
  2. I really like this. I really like this. People choose not to properly roleplay limitations, and, to be fair, it’s surprisingly easy to do: clicking on a door welds it in three seconds flat. Building a chair takes two clicks and is done practically instantly. Most roleplaying games instate limitations exactly because it is unreasonable to assume that players will always be able to fairly ascertain whether/how long it would take to do any given task, especially in a dangerous situation where tensions are high. Unfortunately, I do see a few issues with it, in relation to how prone Aurora is to a degree of metagaming. Expect people to quickly settle into harassment, both IC and OOC, of people whose skills are not at the highest level for whatever their job is. “Your surgery skill is only ⅘? I expect you to let the other surgeon handle all the surgeries unless he’s busy.”/”Your research and development skill is only a ⅗ as a Phoron Researcher?” Expect, on the opposite side of this curve, people to start using this as an excuse to start doing multiple jobs. “Why did you break into the R&D Lab? You’re a roboticist!” “No it's ok, I know how to do research, watch.” Metagaming on the part of syndicate agents. It’s been a longstanding thing that traitors are incredibly highly trained agents who have the knowledge to do anything on-station. If someone sees someone do something at a better level than what they’re supposed to be at, then they’ll immediately know that they’re a traitor, which will not be good for game balance. Though I do like this a lot, and think that we would benefit highly from having more mechanical features that benefit RP.
  3. why are people unironically rallying around ERP there are stations for blowing one another at 3 in the morning like you're two hippies watching animal planet we're a fuckin roleplay station and you guys want to legalize smacking your wet willy on your pink haired nurses ear and nutting over hte public radio and saying ';hee hee mischannel' as you giggle with y our flacid cock. mayb e we'll legislate erp when we can go one roundwithout someone dabbing also one of my many fears is that someone is going to try ERPing with a diona , and then we're going to need to incorporate mechanics for getting throns suck in your g-spot and i wouldn't wish having to code that on my worst enemy
  4. Yessir. The idea of electing a single 'community manager' (without knowing exactly what it entails) is likely to pose issues. If, by election from the community, it turns into a popularity contest, I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with someone who means well but has less interest in heavy roleplay, and less talent in managing community complaints. ERP isn't what Aurora Station is about. That said, I'd prefer that we weren't so shy about discussing sexual content in-character. As long as we acknowledge that it's not acceptable to actually act upon, then I'd argue that a lot of it should be acceptable. Anyone remember that Firefly scene with Early and Kaylee? That was pretty scary, and used sexual content in a non-erotic way. But I'd rather not know that people are ERPing sucking each other off in the maint tunnels. Please don't. Vox are mysterious. They were the second race we ever discovered. Why would they suddenly join us now? I'm not even really happy with adding the vox merchant; it felt like it removed some of the mystery from them. Fun I don't really have a strong opinion on this. It is with utter disgrace and bitter hatred at my own actions that I must unironically nominate Scheveningen.
  5. xander, i need you to read the statement i told you to read. it will make this a lot easier, xander.
  6. YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN SHUT DOWN REGARDLESS As I said multiple times by now. Yes, I made the huge mistake of asking you for a link to the company in a final attempt to keep your gimmick alive. I ahelped in an attempt to keep your gimmick alive. I asked you in looc in an attempt to keep your gimmick alive. All of that, before I rendered my final verdict. You didnt take any of these chances i'd get annoyed too if i played a text-based game and i couldn't read i know i wouldn't have been allowed on to talk to science, engineering, or security, regardless of whether the company existed or not. i've said a hundred times i'm cool with that because it's interesting rp. you ahelped to check if your character would have heard of it, not with intent of prolonging the gimmick. i checked back my logs and you never once LOOC'd me to ask about it before we'd talked at length about it's existence ICly, and even then only after I looc'd you to tell you it was legitimate and telling you to stop acting as if it wasn't. this was yet another show that i was totally legitimate in my understanding it was a real company. Even when you did talk about it, you were literally arguing that it didn't - not trying to come to some understanding. literally the only thing this complaint is about was you claiming that it didn't exist when you verified it ICly - by the link i gave you and by saying it's not on the "reference database". you don't get to decide that. ahelp if you have an issue with someones backstory. are we clear now? EDIT: Also, is this hasn't cleared things up, we're not going to get anywhere, and it's best to just leave it to Strudel to talk to us about.
  7. I'm just going to stop responding to these until you read and repeat this very, very, very simple statement which I have made several times now. Please read it, Xander. I'M NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT HIS IC ACTIONS. READ MY COMPLAINT. Not once does the NanoTrasen page state anything about exporting raw materials. They are a research company, who mines their own materials for internal use. And: So it's a records issue. So it's an OOC issue. So direct it to staff, instead of trying to force that a company doesn't exist and shut it down immediately. This was clearly an issue with (reasonable) OOC misunderstanding and you took it upon yourself to make it IC so you could completely shut down the visitors backstory. Finally, That's not the topic of this complaint. Read. What. I. Type.
  8. Now, as I explained quite a few times already. It wasn't the link that made me believe you are a corporate spy. The crew reports, your attempts at social engineering, they all did that. Yes, by the time I got to the link, there wasnt much you could do to convince me otherwise. You already put enough nails into the coffin yourself. As I explained in my first post. It would have helped if didn't try to claim that you are from the biggest exporter of Tau Ceti. It would have helped if you would have introduced yourself before I am alerted by the crew about a possibly spy. [...] Also, I did ahelp about that company, to see if I should know about it and if your claim that they are the biggest exporter is correct. We both know how that ahelp ended: They are not the biggest exporter and I do not need to know about them ICly. THAT'S NOT THE TOPIC OF THIS COMPLAINT. I don't know how many times I need to say this before you read it. You are allowed to think I'm a corporate spy, you're allowed to never have heard of it; I was using this to say that I couldn't have changed your mind because you chose to claim that the company didn't exist at all, rather than you'd simply never heard of it. That's what this complaint is about. You didn't necessarily shut down the gimmick. You shut down the character. What's worse than invalidating someones attempts for the shift is invalidating their character based of something you have no right to choose - the existence of the company my character works for. But, the shining gemstone: I didn't see this. I'll check my logs later in the round to see when and how this was said, but I definitely would have explained my stance if I'd seen this, which may well have avoided a lot of trouble with this. Nevertheless, I still stand by my point; it's not the right of players to invalidate other peoples characters. If an antag comes on-station claiming to work for "Windeshi XenoArchitectural Designers", then you can't say "I've looked it up, and it doesn't exist!", because that immediately just invalidates a part of their characters lore for no reason. The only error I made here was the perfectly legitimate mistake of assuming that the one Tau Ceti Exporter mentioned anywhere was the leading one. Ahelp and tell staff that I'm saying something untrue and they'll speak with me. Don't try to force it ICly. This was an OOC matter.
  9. I'M NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT YOUR IC ACTIONS. PLEASE REREAD MY COMPLAINT. I couldn't link it because it didn't exist. From the moment you decided that I was a corporate spy, there was nothing I could say that could change your mind. Not every large company has a wiki page, and I don't find it hard to believe that a company that only does exports wouldn't have one. This was an OOC mistake you used to immediately try to shut down a visitor both ICly and OOCly. 'Reaching out' to me would have been LOOCing me asking me for more info. Not asking for IC information pretending the IC responses I gave over an IC channel were illegitimate. lol, when I said that I was referring to when Zel said that you weren't required to know about the company. i hoped that was clear at the time.
  10. You get seemingly innocent questions along the lines of And then a few questions later you start asking if the station is up to par with its equipment, seemingly trying to find some flaw with the station. When speaking to an IPC engineer, Comms are lost, and you ask questions without much follow up, almost as if you are trying to collect dirt to help your company in another way. [...] Tl;dr I don't feel this really warrants any further action, the captain in question from his knowledge was dealing with a corporate spy, and the visitor in question was asking some shady questions. The actions taken against said visitor are a bit shaky, but from an IC standpoint I can understand, probably not the best course of action to take, but none of us are perfect. I'M NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT HIS IC ACTIONS. PLEASE REREAD MY COMPLAINT. Me believing GIlthari Exports was the largest exporter was due to a mistake, not due to me trying to write that lore. If he had an issue with that, he should have ahelped and asked someone to talk to me, or LOOC'd me to ask me about it. He instead not only shut it down but used the roleplay definition of powergaming to claim that Gilthari Exports didn't exist at all and that my reason for being here was invalid. Believing someone's a spy and investigating them: A-OK. Deciding someone's a spy and choosing to OOCly manipulate the game world to fit your decision: Not OK.
  11. You've misunderstood my complaint - I've attempted to explain properly my issue here. This is a complaint on you OOCly deciding what does and doesn't exist to fit your IC opinions and actions, not on your IC actions. Thus, I've italicised in your quotes things that are purely about your IC play, and that I thus am not making a complaint on. LONG POST: So basically it boils down to this: if I had not said "Gilthari Exports is the biggest exporter in Tau Ceti", would you have believed me? There's no right answer, because: Yes, in which case you are knowingly taking an OOC mistake and applying it ICly. There is no fair reason to be doing this at all; it is a completely reasonable and legitimate mistake to make, and I would find it extremely hard to believe you weren't aware that I genuinely believed that it was. No, in which case the problem was not with the size and status of the corporation, but of not wanting to acknowledge it's existence at all.
  12. BYOND Key: Ornias Game ID:bTy-dne9 Player Byond Key: (Don't know key. Char Name Paul Jonson) Staff involved: Zelmana Reason for complaint: Using OOC measures to shut down a visitor character's backstory and lore. First few things that need clarification. My visitor character is James Turner, a Gilthari Exports Legal Representative, who is going around various stations to understand their safety measures and precautions to avoid employees of Gilthari Exports, and the upcoming GES Agrippa, being hurt. Setup: For conveniences sake, I'll note that Gilthari Exports is an option under the character creation 'factions' menu, although I do not believe that is necessary information in this case. Earlier in the round, I'd been around and spoken with various people about their work aboard the NSS Aurora, and the safety measures in their departments. This is something I do once in a blue moon, and it's a lot of fun; it's exactly what the visitor role should be used for, IMO. Then, I spoke with a roboticist. They were playing someone who was objectionable towards my character, and I found it enjoyable. They PDA'd various people, including the Head of Security and the captain, saying that I was trying to 'inspect' robotics. This wasn't true, but again, all entirely IC; I had no issue with what they had done. Then, when speaking, Captain Paul Jonson came up behind me, and asked me what I was doing. I explained that I was here under the Biesel Corporate Safety Act, that I worked for Gilthari Exports, and that I was trying to get information on workplace safety aboard the Aurora. This is where the issue began: This is enough to set off a few red flags, because it seems that he's trying to argue that the company doesn't exist by public appeal. He then asks for me to PDA him a link to the company website. Finally; Now I don't expect people to bend the knee at the Holy Visitor Gimmick™, that's not what the complaint is. The complaint is that he actively took steps to OOCly disavow the existence of the company and of my gimmick. He didn't say "We have no way to connect to the Extranet from here, and I wasn't briefed, so we're going to limit your access to a few places/put you on a guided tour/connect you with this engineer for any questions you may have". He said "the page doesn't exist", trying to RP the world completely contrary to the character I was playing. This was OOCly claiming it didn't exist by saying the website didn't exist, by saying it wasn't on the extranet. He's allowed to have not heard of a company before, sure; but claiming that it doesn't exist because you don't want to deal with it is not appropriate play for anyone, least of all a head of staff. If you have a serious issue with someones IC lore, it needs to be ahelped. Otherwise, unless we want to say that it's totally acceptable to claim that all non-approved player-lore can be handwaved away by whoever's there at the time, this can't be allowed. If someones records said they were in the "Biesel Police Vice Department, Stonecreek", and a captain said "Stonecreek isn't a real place in Biesel!", or if someone said "My favorite movie is 'The Skrellian Prince'" and someones aid "I can't see that movie anywhere online! It doesn't exist!" that would be the same problem; even if there's no mention of something, vehemently claiming anything not on the wiki doesn't exist isn't appropriate roleplay. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? Yes. Zelmana was very helpful, but advised that I make a player complaint because it was rather hard to get everything across over ahelps and it would have taken far too long. Approximate Date/Time: 3/26/2018. Don't know the time sorry :^(
  13. Even with recent updates, this is still an issue. Beyond that, I'd advise adding some more spells to actually make the class stand on its own two legs. It needs more summons (that's one of the main advertised things for this class, but there are only two summons???). Let me summon tree peeps, some wildlife, whatever, man. It needs no clothes for one point, or for free. You can't play your nekked druid with the current setup. And, finally, it would benefit from druidic transformations. Like polymorph but good.
  14. Except the other ones; Vaurca and diona (and vox if you count them). Vaurca are almost never cloned just due to how difficult it is, dionaea can't be revived when their nymphs are killed, and vox can't be cloned. IPC's just get an appearance modification, and perhaps a minor inconvenience if their job doesn't work well with a baseline frame. But you are impaired for the rest of the round; if someone isn't roleplaying the effects of having been killed then they need to be ahelped. IPC's don't have this kind of IC restraint because they're robots. So they're given a mechanical one instead. Yes. So keep your magboots on. Stay away from fires. Keep an eye on your cell charger. Punishing players for dying does make it enjoyable to play. It adds tension, it means that treating your IPC like an expensive piece of machinery rather than an infinitely-respawning tin can is vital to your continued existence. If non-security/non-antag IPCs are dying often enough that this is seriously going to impede day-to-day play, then they're not being treated with the gravity that they should. Basically: Punishment isn't bad. I for one want death to ban me permenantly so that i treat our overlord antagonits with the respect they deserve. IPCs should have some kiind of reason to avoid death because the arguement "im a robot meant to defend the station of course i shouldn't be afraid of dying to defend it" is incredibly widely used. c an i get an
  15. 27 characters too many get FUCKED
  16. ParadoxSpace didn't once mention them being unfit for their role, he mentioned them not trying to roleplay properly. Labelling your full uniform "COOL SHIT" and calling people "NEVER FRIENDS" while emoting crying isn't roleplaying. Even if you're subverted, you shouldn't be calling people 'mai waifu'. You shouldn't need to ICly ask people to roleplay seriously. That should be a given. OOC jokes between friends is fine, but if it's reached a point where ParadoxSpace has found it necessary to make a complaint, then it's being radically overdone.
  17. The trend with this is "it's useful mechanically". Yes, it preserves resources. Yes, it makes things easier. But poisoning shouldn't be easy to fix. It requires special medication. And the fact that CMO's, doctors, and even regular civilians are just telling people to drink tea after being poisoned in some way just takes you out of the moment. Also: lmao i wish. https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=9636&p=88228 It does sound like good RP. I really wish it was. But it's not providing any kind of roleplay at all - it's being prescribed by CMO's as a legitimate medication, instead of just being something they're advised to do alongside their treatment. Only you can just. Drink a ton of tea from the vending machines for practically no cost, and clear up large amounts of poisoning. I agree it could be interesting, if done very tastefully and applied with other medication, but it's not; it's becoming a part of server culture that "oh, this is a quick fix to toxins damage", and is being used instead of properly treating the individual from a realistic standpoint.
  18. Remove the toxins healing effect from tea. It's currently being used as legitimate medication to toxins cases such as irradiation and scrubbers poisoning, rather than the individuals in question actually being treated for the severe poisoning they've received. It's reached a point where certain medical staff are using it as their first response to someone being poisoned, rather than treating them with actual medication. And before anyone says "but tea heals you IRL"; yes. It does. Over the course of several months it can remove long-lasting toxins from your body, and can over the course of a few hours provide certain health benefits. It does not immediately cure serious and painful toxins from venomous spiders, radiation storms, and poison. It doesn't provide RP value to anyone, and only detracts from our atmosphere.
  19. I've never thought of this before, but it's such a good idea! I'd argue this should be added alongside increasing the likelihood for tables to block projectiles, because as it is they're very ineffective, and strongly decentivises taking cover.
  20. This is a really good idea. I'd suggest having it completely replace spiders, blobs, and carp, because none of those allow for roleplay in any meaningful capacity besides "let's kick it's ass". More interesting peaceful events would spice up extended, and would be less likely to interfere with antags.
  21. Pictured: the offender. This was my fault. There is a limit to runes you can place, but it's probably about 60 or so. I wasn't aware that the limit extended globally - I thought it was as you were suggesting, in that it was a purely geographic thing to prevent people from piling too many runes into one room. You won't realistically see this in a normal round unless it very specifically comes about by someone trying to do something similar to what I did. Making the limit a personal thing (you can have X runes) or a geographic thing (you can have X runes in an X area) would fix this problem. But there definitely needs to be some kind of limit - if I were able to keep expanding the area of runes that I'd drawn there, I could have made a death field all over the sublevel.
  22. you can pay 50 credits to have a tajara give you a piggy back to anywhere in tau ceti, or your money back
  23. As far as you took action to gather. The captain did order the arrest, and taking the time to actually interview either the captain or the officer would have revealed that very quickly. The fact that the Head of Security didn't see it is irrelevant, the issue is that you did not properly investigate - due to bias or just not being good at the job - and your report incriminated someone who had followed the captains orders. From my understanding, your public statements also indicated that he was incompetent, which would have given reason for the HoS wanting to demote the officer. I'm not complaining because you came to the wrong conclusion. I'm complaining because both ICly and OOCly you seem to be playing to win and you refuse to consider your actions or think about how they were wrong. Few things to clear up: This is false. I don't have access to the conversation because I closed it after you blocked me, but if you'd like to post it then it will show that nothing of the sort happened, and that you blocked me after I sent two 'groups' of messages. Otherwise, please stop saying that you blocked me because I was being somehow unreasonable or cyclical in my criticism. Also, I didn't want to make trouble about it. I wanted to talk to you about how to improve your mindset during play so you don't end up repeating these kind of mistakes. You forced me to make it public when you blocked me instead of listening to my criticism. EDIT: Nevermind, I was able to get the logs.
