  1. Just gonna drop a +1 on this. From what I witnessed in the pass, Soul's command characters have been both competent, accommodating and human. It's a shame to see their role taken for non-command issue related events, but still I hope to see them back in the role. He's definitely the type of person I'd like to see in command more. Each of his characters has something grounding them, like his captain actually bothers to make breakfast when possible instead of just sitting in his office, eating donuts and screaming at security.
  2. Chameleon kits got removed from prolathe, you can't get the illegal levels as high normally now.
  3. Personally, I have yet to see the Ta on station besides a single occurrence in the lobby, so my experience isn't as detailed as the others. However, I do believe that the Ta should remain on the server, they're a interesting concept and imo better than just 'lol i am from the guvernments'. Like, they're actually unique compared to the others and can drive more interaction than your typical Consular. I'd like to see em kept, though I would like to also see people play them more.
  4. Turns out I can't have two spoilers in one post, outstanding formatting. Pixel art is at the bottom of the traditional art section.
  5. Hey-o nerds. I've been trying to pick up art, I'm not doing too well at it but I'm drawing more and more. I do both 'normal' digital art, and pixel art. To help hopefully improve I'll be taking any suggestions here or on Discord (Xor#1100). I'm open to doing both digital or pixel art. Though, I limit my pixel palettes to 100x100. I can post stuff here, or on Discord upon request. Here you go nerds. Traditional Art
  6. No thanks, I like having options on what to wear. I have two officers, one that wears the corporate uniform and one who wears the white and tie. I don't see why removing it has any benefit besides the personal opinion of a handful of players.
  7. So I was directly involved since I play Tii'Aei. The 'baldie-thrower' comment was made off-handly in jest and was already bwoinked about and I assume a note or such given. Thus it doesn't really matter anymore. Last I checked there isn't any reason why engineers aren't allowed to create a sort of structure? They refurnish areas all the time and create things. I've seen them do stuff like make a set of doors and floors outside in a hallway - engineering that is, not the specific engineer - so I don't think there's an issue with a engineer...doing engineering things. As for the Berko-Mutema thing...there isn't really anything to say about saying a name? Me and the Engineer had some Dyn-Wine (With the tipsy messages) and came over to the lobby. As soon as Berko arrived, the engineer told me to just say 'Mutema' when they say 'Berko' and I played along given the tipsy state. I tried to adjust it a bit so it wasn't just mindless spam hence why you can see me talking about addressing them by their last name and such. Honestly, given that I was involved in literally all three situations, I don't see how TrickingTrapster did anything wrong. Were you expecting him to hand out a warning for a off-hand comment, or to bwoink people over making a corridor or saying a name a few times?
  8. Some issues I've noticed with the new records. Physical is spelt as phisical status. There's no option to change physical/mental notes, changing one to deceased, etc. There's no option to print records.
  9. Going to give this another nudge - yes it's from 2018 - but I really, really feel like security needs to have a break room, and trim a bit of the excess. I.e why do they need two briefing rooms...? Every other department has a place where they can settle down and use a drink and food vendor. Security has a small office with a single hot drink machine and cigarette machine. Medical has two breakrooms and even cargo has a break room.
  10. I've interacted with Borya on his Hasam character once or twice, and Vesper. I think they've got a pretty solid understanding of the whitelist and the lore and I have no doubt about their ability to roleplay or apply the lore to a character. +1
  11. I think you're confusing utility vests and hazard vests. Utility vests are there to hold items in various pouches and pockets like a webbing, a hazard vest is there to identify personnel in hazardous environments. I.e bright reflective clothing at night or hard to see conditions.
  12. Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: CommanderXor Character Name(s): Can be seen here. AI Name(s): N/A Discord Username + Tag: Xor#1100 Age: 17 Timezone: AEST / GMT+10 When are you on Aurora?: I play on Aurora most often after work/school, and on my days off and holidays. Typically during 'low-pop' on a normal day, otherwise when most are on. Experience How long have you played SS13?: Probably about four years now. How long have you played on Aurora?: Three years actively, though I think it says I first connected in 2015? How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I know a great deal of various stuff. I pretty much know how to do most mechanical things besides atmospherics and plasma bombs. I also struggle a bit with chemistry. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: I do not. Have you read through the criteria thread; https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4198 - and believe that you mark off all the criteria?: I have read through it, and I believe I meet the criteria. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: I've been banned three times in total. The first time was for being aggressive in LOOC/OOC and was for 1440 minutes. The second time was ramboing a malf-AI that resulted in a IPC-CE being killed/EMPed to death. Not sure how long that ban was for. Last time was in 2017, and was for racist ingame remakrs that got a little too out of hand. But it was two years ago and was only a 2880 minute ban. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I play SS13 because I was looking for a game that was heavy on the roleplay, but wasn't any sort of weird voice chat program. I played a lot of Clockwork HL2RP and was looking for something similar in terms of roleplay, but wasn't some spin off weird server, thus I settled into SS13 and its HRP community. Why do you play on Aurora?: I play on the Aurora because it's one of the few HRP servers that is around and somewhat decent. I've dabbled with other servers but often found them lacking, ultimately returning to Aurora. It's one of those servers that mix a good blend of roleplay with mechanics and action, without having one factor overwhelm the others. What do moderators do?: Moderators are there to help enforce server rules, while also there to help players with any complaints, questions or concerns on various fields such as mechanics, rule clarification and any other issues. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: It means that you have a set of responsibilities that you have to abide by. You are there to help make the experience for the player's of the server a better one, through a mixture of answering questions and resolving disputes and tickets. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I've been playing on the Aurora for over three years now, and I've enjoyed pretty much my entire stay here. The community, staff and mechanics have been an absolute delight. So, I've wanted to sort of...give back, so to say. I basically want to become a moderator so I can help keep that experience going, and make sure that others are also enjoying their experience with the server like I have. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: Well, I use to moderate non-SS13 related things. I was a moderator for the People of Gaming's 1942RP, along with a HL2RP server known as Shockcore Gaming, I also work in sales/retail so I guess that. Basically I enjoy working with people and I'd think that would help bring over to the server. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I'll be honest, it's not my strong suit and I didn't handle them well in the past but I've uh, gotten better at it, since then. I believe that since then I've managed to handle such things in a better manner, and typically cool off instead of reacting to it. Anything Else You Want to Add: I understand that I have quite the history, with notes, warnings and bans. But I've been trying to rectify these issues and I've had a rather long sort of empty-period where nothing has happened, I understand if this may negatively affect my chances, and I simply wish to prove myself with a trial period to see if I can handle this, and prove it to others that I can handle a role with more responsibility.
  13. I dunno, isn't the point of a hazard vest to be bright and eye-catching?
  14. If we're so adamant on removing the stunbaton, we need to replace it with a ASP baton. Otherwise we've been doing nothing but slowly stripping security's equipment and nerfing it into the ground. First we made flashes no longer stun, then we removed the pepperspray stun, now we've removing the stunbaton. Is it going to get to the point where the average officer is going to have nothing actually useful and be forced to flee to the armoury at the first sign of an assistant breaking bottles over heads?
  15. I don't see how holding the shuttle for other players to have the chance to get wounded onboard can be considered selfish, infact waiting for others to get onboard almost seems like the opposite. I'm happy with the PR however, just a little concerned about what sort of precedence making up a rule on the spot and saying 'we can't have every little thing written down' can cause.
  16. The complaint or the replies? Because the complaint is a valid thing. I was typing it up after the round ended and only got around to posting it a few minutes after yours by coincidence.
  17. Where is it written down that it is disallowed? People can't obey something if they aren't aware of it, nor if they can find it.
  18. BYOND Key: CommanderXor Staff BYOND Key: Garnascus Game ID: Round before b12-bDfE Reason For Complaint: The round is changeling, I join half-way through and observe the entire round. There's a horror form ling going around murdering everyone and most of sec is dead or unable to contain it to the point that command calls for an ERT. I spawn in with four~ other ERT troopers and we board the station. I crashed relatively early on so I wasn't sure what was happening for the most part in terms of combat, but that is not part of the complaint. The point is, later on in the round a emergency shuttle was called and I rejoined about two minutes before it docks. I make my way up there to oversee that everything went well, people evacuated and no trouble started from crew or lings. Point is, people were trying to get to it and the captain decided to hold the shuttle for medical which was rushing to the dock and just stepped off the elevators. This is where the trouble begins. Literal seconds after the shuttle is held, with the airlocks open, the shuttle launches. For seemingly no reason, despite command swiping to hold it, it gets launched. The doors are wide open and I get knocked to my feet. I'm not sure if it vented the shuttle but I was downed and nearly got sucked out as I was one tile away. He then proceeds to make an announcement not to hold the shuttle and goes on in OOC saying that shuttles are never to be held and that they were never allowed to be and it's against the rules/'is your headcanon they're allowed to be held'. My issue stems from the fact, that this is not written down anywhere, nor noted, nor in the official rule list. It's just...something he's made up on the spot. It has never been a thing and no one has ever actually stopped the shuttle from being held before. Infact, Garn has even been on when it has been held in the past. It seemingly has come out of no where...for no real reason other than he felt like it. Unless I am mistaken and he has enforced it in the past, I have never seen it before and several people said likewise in OOC after the round ended. Evidence: Logs can be found here. Additional Remarks: I don't quite want Garn to get in trouble per-say, I want a official ruling on holding the shuttle and if it's allowed or not, and if it has always been allowed then why Garn seemingly made up rules on the spot for no reason that negatively affected players and the ongoing round.
  19. Was wondering why it only mentioned graduating a university after ten years. Must have misunderstood it. I'll push back the age by a few more years so it lines up more with the educational requirements set out.
  20. Oops, didn't realise that. Meant a doctorate and a bachelors, must have accidentally slipped my mind late last night. I'll give it a fix, thanks!
  21. BYOND Key: CommanderXor Character Names: Fair few, too many to list. Can be seen here. Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Light Blue Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always wanted to play a Skrell character. In fact, I wanted to apply for one as my first species but I was nervous to actually attempt to apply. Eventually I got convinced to apply for another species, and from there I started getting comfortable with making applications. I've always found the Skrell to be an interesting race. They've got pretty well grounded lore that has been expanded over the time I've played. They've got some interesting concepts to roleplay out such as the entire Srom and Nlom/Wake along with the social structure in parts. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: When it comes to the Skrell, you've got a selection of things that are different to just a stock human, some are backed by mechanics and some are purely done in the sense of roleplay. The most obvious part would be the entire Psionic Wake/Nlom element. You have listeners and receivers. They're both quite common with a 50-50 ratio. Receivers are actually influenced and changed by the effects of the Wake. The listeners however are not influenced by the Wake itself and merely listen in to what others say. Some hold them with greater suspicion as they wouldn't be influenced, and partially due to the Glorsh-supporters mostly being listeners. Though most listeners do still confine themselves to what the receivers are influenced on. Another part of the entire psionic-like aspect is the Srom, as they are able to share far more than what they can with the Nlom, however the range is far more limited along with the fact some can block it out with special aluminium items. Besides the Nlom and Srom parts, there is a entire more indepth social structure than a human would. Respect can be earned or lost within the first moments of meeting another Skrell simply by asking a set of questions and finding out their age and occupation. Humour can be frowned upon by the elder, and some settings it is outright shunned. There are set titles for people in regards to what they are, from lovers and mates, all the way to a Qu'Nioh - a person they did not suspect they would befriend but end up befriending. Jargon Skrell also have to be wary of how they represent the Federation, as benefits - if any - can be stripped and they can come under the scrutiny of other Skrell of Jargon-make both within and outside of the Federation. However those that do represent the Federation well are met with benefits, a greater social stance and other novelties. Another key point with Skrell is their major distrust of synthetics. From stationbounds, to IPCs to full blown AIs. They've been oppressed under Glorsh in the past and the blood still runs bad. Some of the younger Skrell population are less horrified and angered by the prospect of artificial intelligence but the majority of the population share the common thought that synthetic life is a threat that must be culled. This is further supported as the Federation outlaws synthetics within their space, and likely push the same thoughts and opinions on social media via Idols. Character Name: Qaoki Oea'Kaei Please provide a short backstory for this character: Qaoki was born on the 3rd of January, 2416 early in the Radiant Era. His parents lived on Jargon and he was born there. His mother was a surgeon and his father was a chemist. The telepathtic bond shared between the two while he grew would strengthen and help form his early childhood interests. He was quite fond of medicine partially due to the bond with both parents. He passed through the Federation's kindergartens without error and enjoyed the teachings they offered and the social interactions with fellow students. Once he left, he followed after his parent's footsteps and enrolled in the Aliose University of Medicine to specialise in the field of chemistry. He spent many years studying through the courses with multiple field trips amongst Jargon space. He focused mostly on his studies, albeit he did not abandon all of his social life and instead supplemented it with social media, following the life of many Idols and striving to be like them as he worked throughout the course-work. He completed a doctorate in medicine and a doctorate in chemistry. Once out of schooling he found himself working as a chemist within a hospital in one of Jargon's cities - specifically Kal'lo. Working within the hospital for several more years, he decided that to help further his social standing and to benefit the Federation, he would seek out a external job to help ensure that the other species would see the good-face of the Federation. Seeking external employment he was given two major options, to work with Zeng-Hu pharmaceuticals or seek out a contract with the NanoTrasen corporation. The prospect of working on the latest vessel the NSS Upsilon was rather exciting and he signed a contract with NanoTrasen to work for them for a period of no less than ten years. However, he has been assigned to the NSS Aurora instead of the Upsilon for the time being to help prove himself to the corporation. Thus, he has found himself on a visa within Tau Ceti and employed on the NSS Aurora as a chemist for the medical department. He quite often attempts to post back to his parents, and social media back in the Federation, trying to hopefully become an Idol one day himself. What do you like about this character?: I quite like how Qaoki tries to stick by the core-ideals set out by the Federation, trying to ensure he follows the Nlom, and tries to make himself like the Idols the Federation so-bluntly pedals. He's trying to further himself, but at this point is it because it is what he actually wants to do, or is it the not-so-subtle manipulation by the Federation's government and social media? It's hard to distinguish as he's become what the Federation wants. A hard-working Skrell, who confines to the social norms set by the government and is working to further both the Federation, himself, and the image of the Federation. Thus, I quite like this aspect to his character, I have to stop and think, 'would this help the Federation?' when making major decisions. How would you rate your role-playing ability?: I would say that my roleplay is quite well, and over the time I've played on Aurora my ability has further increased. I can spin a good character concept, I can work with them, I can adjust them as time goes on the station and have them affected and shaped by the actions and events that go on the server. Overrall I would say that I'm probably slightly above the average player as I started roleplaying on Clockwork HL2 servers and am use to more text-based game than mechanics-heavy. Despite this I am quite good with adapting to a mixture of roleplay, and the actual mechanical functions of SS13. Notes: None to really note!
  22. Out of curiosity, how will this NanoPaste change affect the Xenoarchology wing of science? It spawns with NanoPaste in it because the scanning machines for artifacts require NanoPaste to heal/function after the first scan or two. Will I have to constantly ask R&D for more paste now so I can do scans or will we just spawn more tubes down there?
  23. I'm probably one of the few players who actively play IAA, and I'll have to give my input on this. I'm against the merging of the HoP and IAA role. The IAA is tasked by Central Command to be a liaison yes, but at the same time they are there to help the Command team interpret orders and see it is done along with departmental audits and employee evaluations. They're given a loyalty implant and 'removal' from the chain of command -barring the Captain's orders - as a method of staying neutral from crew, relations and conflict. It's why they are also one of the few jobs on the station that are outright barred from playing other roles onboard. IAA are meant to be exclusively one-department/role assignment. I've been told that I shouldn't/can't play both a IAA and HoP character. Merging the two roles would require adjusting the duties of the HoP and would likely remove a majority of HoP characters given the 'no-bias' rule/requirement, unless they were to break that tidbit. But at that point what is the point of having a internal affairs-HoP? The loyalty implant is also another requirement to ensure that they're following NanoTrasen in good faith. I simply can not see this working out without massively gimping the ability to do both job's duties effectively or breaking the established requirements and responsibilities for a character of it.
  24. Now I see why the cloaks were removed, purely to charge for them. Greedy bastards. (/s)
  25. Hi, I was one of the officers involved. Basically the player in question - the Librarian - was antag baiting/self-antaging and attempting to build bombs. They had printed off communist manifestios - which isn't too bad in of itself - and started spreading them around. I was then informed by the chemist that she had given him a high explosives manual - which he proved by giving me it - and told me that they had attempted to ask the chemist for the materials to make the things in the book. She was soon detained, however when we went to arrest her we found her leaving the maintenance tunnel. We arrested her and took the toolbelt she had on her during the detainment. I proceeded to investigate the tunnel within to find that she had dragged a welding fuel tank over and had a igniter and proximity sensor right next to it. It wasn't attached but according to the text description of them when I examined, they had been screwdrivered and ready to put on. We managed to stop them but they kept generally being a pain in the ass for the rest of the shift. Normally threats would be bad enough but trying to actually make explosives is self-antagging on a extended round.
