The emergency softsuit helmets work similarly without the need for a breath mask. They're fairly easy to acquire.
-
Sure. Only problem is that this may end up phasing out gas masks from viability if people just choose to enter voidsuits or hardsuits instead which only need the helmet to have a closed-loop personal atmosphere, so effectively people would gravitate to start wearing alternatives if the gas masks get nerfed due to how power creep works. Why wear a gas mask when you could just wear a voidsuit helmet and turn on internals?

Don't post/participate if you're going to come into threads like this, then. Okay, great! Everyone else in this thread is waiting for you to add something of notable value to the discussion because honestly your attitude is way out of line in what is reasonable in a civil discussion, because you've not really done much to argue the case that security officers/engineers/etc should be like Sterling Archer and dress in tactical turtleneck knock-offs because they want to look special and cool, and have only levied passive-aggressive insults towards the other thread participants which is very uncool-beans of you. Maybe check yourself and don't post if you feel the need to act like a dick to other people? There are many ways to ensure one's character looks very particularly identifiable for their role and for their character, but being able to somehow walk past the CentComm clothing portal in anything other than your standard uniform just seems very inconsistent with the IC rules that CentComm has put forward in enforcing uniform regulation. If it wasn't an issue then heads of staff could never enforce it in the first place, which is the opposite of what Whiterabit has confirmed in the thread here. Personally I think a very large reduction in the amount of Sterling Archers we get onboard the station would be a very welcome change in terms of the server climate. . It's time for the meme to die.

Then it'd be a completely useless fluff feature very few people want to devote time into implementing on their own code-wise, as there's no point implementing a feature like this when player narrative choices between multiple individuals can already influence if two characters are already lovers or etc. Giving Randy Rando #432 a gun yet no antag status is also a recipe for disaster.

You cripple roleplay freedom by forcing these circumstances onto people rather than allowing these escalations of character decisions to come by naturally based on the situation.
-
How about your completely shit attitude, you ever think maybe for once it isn't everyone's fault but your own for how you talk to other people? You've totally zero room to tell the entire community what they need to improve upon when you suffer from the same issues yourself. You just come off like Diogenes, I'm sure he had interesting things to say but he still stank up the place and lived in a barrel. Also notable, his method of criticism of other social concepts boiled down to holding up a plucked chicken and proclaiming, "behold, a man!" to make fun of Plato for comparing people to featherless bipeds. While funny, it was still coming from the guy who lived in a barrel and screamed at people on the street as a living. Just something to consider, you're not really someone in the luxurious position to be telling people what they should be doing when you're barely an authority on such things in the present. Not judging you on what your past was, because honestly you haven't showed any meaningful improvement to say anything about yourself is "just in the past." Get shafted, mate. You felt plenty enough mad to make the OP to lecture staff on "taking their job too seriously" for giving you the righteous boot. If you didn't care you wouldn't have even posted this.

[Denied] Moderator Application - AmoryBlaine
Scheveningen replied to AmoryBlaine's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
Unfortunate this hasn't gotten a ton of attention. Gotta say, Amory would definitely be an excellent candidate for a mod based on what I've seen currently. I've not seen them explode in any fantastic capacity and they're a great holder of conversation with a level head on their shoulders. They're an active command staff player and they've done well enough to contribute to a better atmosphere for security players. I've never seen frustration or anger be a problem for them, it'd be silly to even mention it especially considering the staff members with spotless records will on occasion lose their patience and say something out of turn. So I'm happy at the least to see the applicant rises above mediocrity there. Not much else to say, I don't enjoy wasting time on paragraph-long tirades just to tell the staff to give this one a shot. -
If I might cluck like one of the hens of the peanut gallery here like someone already has, might I point out the issue was that another character literally force-fed someone who was suffering from extreme toxins, only tea, and not attempting to get them medical attention either by transporting them to medical themselves or by calling for a medic. That's the issue. No one cares if people know that tea fixes toxins damage, that probably makes a little bit of sense but what does not make sense is someone forcing that down someone's gullet and calling that first aid treatment instead of getting them the medical attention they need. These are bad roleplay priorities, awful roleplay execution, and would only fly on the other lower RP spectrum servers. There is no 'well the intention was good', the execution is all that matters. You can't say you had good intentions and then bomb the brig, for instance, because that's clearly not an act with good intentions. Staff also need to stop using the "this ruling is final" as a cop-out to avoid being told they're probably wrong in their first assessment of the situation and also avoiding doing more work. You literally volunteer to look into these issues and hear testimony from other players. Why are you in this volunteer position if you're not willing to go the extra mile to investigate further?

Memes are meant to be funny. It's not funny.

I should probably note that I had this discussion with Bokaza in the past over this very same issue during my tenure as a staff member during the course of July when I issued a discord strike over this behavior on the 28th. I was convinced off from permanently removing you from the discord for harassing other staff members over a long period of time before that. If this is still an issue almost 5 months later then I don't know what's going on with Bokaza especially since he doesn't even play on the server in any dedicated capacity, just looks like he's around to shitpost and troll. . . . . . . Context: These screenshots are from July 28th to provide context for how bad this got some time ago. You're a fool if you take it out of that context, read the entire post. While one thing that certainly hasn't changed is JB's lack of tact since then, and often JB creates these issues on his own by simply not being smart with how he communicates with criticism whether snide or not, it doesn't warrant any further harassment from Bokaza. It's surprising to say the least that Bokaza is still doing this, but I already know how this story ends.

Your past defines you. It is these experiences that make you the person you are. You've insisted so many times that you are not this person that this very thread paints you as and yet you've made no change to your conduct. All of your characters are shimmering reflections of yourself. You define yourself. Nobody else does, but you cannot lie to everyone else and yourself by insisting you're not toxic. You are toxic. Very, very toxic. Embrace the truth for once and give an actual effort at improving as a person and a player and maybe you can come back. Seeing your track record I'm holding my doubts firmly like cards at a poker table, but improvement is always possible. You'll probably find a way to fuck it up on purpose though, knowing how you love to be the angry contrarian spreading their hate around.

This is my opinion on the matter. I've seen some players who make an effort to try not to intentionally create a problem, I'm a neutral party as I find myself in a state of contradictory conflict. Sometimes, I tell myself that moderation should be a little strict while I tell myself that moderation team should be a little flexible. I know not where I stand. I can see a strong aggressive coming from you over a small deal, alexpkeaton. Are you having a bad day, biased against Prospekt's opinion, or something to cause a spark? Gaslighting much? Not much else you add to discussions anyway UM. This thread was funny to read, anyway. I like when people rant on about the insecurities of the server while having much more glaring ones particular to their own character that make them much worse than the picture they're trying to paint of the community. See you next week with your ban appeal, Prospekt, you know you can't resist coming back. For whatever reason I'm glad to live in your head rent-free, in addition to UM's. Inevitably it's your mind so I'm still not responsible for anything you say and do. Funny how that works, that me focusing on my actual real life still got your no-lifer ass permabanned from the server. See how blaming everyone but yourself for your own issues works out for you, good luck, man.

How do you provide 'interesting RP' to a player you intend to kill?
Scheveningen replied to K0NFL1QT's topic in General
I don't think the major issue is providing an interesting kill, it's to not murder someone with zero interaction, and to not murder someone without at least a bit of prior escalation with that character beforehand. This can't always happen, SO, you need an especially good reason (they aren't hard to come up with, let's be honest) to be removing a character from the round. Self-defense or them being close to blowing your cover, for instance, are the only two good excuses I can think of that permit wordless killing, not just murder, however. Don't catastrophically fuck up is the actual standard being upheld here, because it's impossible for people to execute perfect murders on a consistent basis because not every situation is the same or can be executed in an ideal fashion. There's a pun there. People have a right to be upset if they get uber owned in-game. They also have the right to have an opinion that just so happens to be wrong, so put that into perspective. If your kills don't fall under those check marks, you're playing badly, objectively speaking, because you're skirting close to breaking server rules. -
Player Complaint - Bath Salts Addict
Scheveningen replied to AmoryBlaine's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
it's the head admin you're speaking to who has a heavy pro-antag bias. i don't think you'll get anywhere attempting the line of reasoning "oh antags shouldn't be able to do this because spirit of RP" garn doesn't listen to that. escalating to an extreme just to kick the round off sounds like bad antag play though. -
dont you think the armory has more purpose than to defend the station from more than one threat than mercenaries?
-
no. slugs are already being removed from the armory. no need to double down

Skill ceiling in a 2d spaceman game? If only you knew, man. you only really have this opportunity 8 times a round if we're assuming the round ends at 2:15 normally. It's not useless but it's moderately useful. Net profit of 8 pts by that time but considering it relies heavily upon proper timing and slowly building up investment points, it can be pretty rough, especially since you still need 1 point left over after investment and buying something new, so you need 30 minute intervals to use it appropriately

Player Complaint - Bath Salts Addict
Scheveningen replied to AmoryBlaine's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Is he still doing this? Last I recall there was either an unban appeal or a complaint over this issue. -
Exerting complete RP control over the experience of another player is indeed, overpowered. But until we get mindslave implants I think vampire can be excused to have this mechanic as they are the only antagonist in the game that exerts this IC and OOC power over a character and their player. It's fair. There are ways to avoid vampires. And sometimes you just have to deal with something with no counterplay. Dominates are getting nerfed anyhow. Enthrall takes 300 blood. It is fair.

Add magboots to the default EVA loadout for miners
Scheveningen replied to Catnip's topic in Archive
The priority should be to fix the space wind issue, not apply a bandaid. The space wind issue only occurs when a pressure change happens out into what should be a depressurized environment but is treated like a simulated enclosed space. If someone forces an airlock out into the mines, for instance, the space wind blowing effect occurs extremely regularly and people have to be reminded in IC to not vent airlocks out into space for this exact reason. It's apparently bugged because somehow the mine turfs are treated as simulated tiles and don't zero out their pressure despite being in close proximity to the actual space tiles. Probably related to the multi-zlevel thing since walking onto a space tile makes you fall now and there isn't anything that properly metes out the calculations in a way you'd expect them to, or there is but it isn't working as intended. -
Incentivizes stealing. Makes gameplay have more depth as a heister. Makes stealing things actually worth it, allows heister antagonists to snowball their own power by not only consolidating their own power but by gaining new stuff to introduce different flavor into the round, and gives the antag type an actual unique mechanic to how they play. Etc. It can either go on the shuttle in the south cargo hold or in the heist base, it doesn't matter, the latter would make round-trips a lot longer though and would end up wasting a lot of time.
