[Accepted] Sorcflopter unban appeal
Scheveningen replied to Sorcflopter's topic in Unban Requests Archive
Banning staff member: [mention]Pratepresidenten[/mention] Ban reason: "Fired up the supermatter engine with no coolant, logged off after the delamination." Time of ban: 2017-09-11 07:36:52 -
That's what you agree to do when you apply for a head of staff whitelist. Don't be dumb, but be a good sport. No, they don't. They agree to be competent (or at least mediocre) heads of staff and not abuse their whitelist. Being a good sport is important but it doesn't override other priorities of a head of staff, which is to at least do their job to an acceptable standard.

Not going to happen without a complete revision of skills influencing game mechanics, so definitely not.

Knives don't give you an invulnerability in hand-to-hand combat. They offer a literal edge to do more damage than what the opposing side is dealing out. Other people are allowed to be smart in disarming a weapon from someone so they do way less damage.

[2 Dismissals] Nerf Frag Grenades or Frag Grenade availability.
Scheveningen replied to JKJudgeX's topic in Archive
The difference, however, is that one traitor may use a whole box of frag grenades for themselves, whereas an ERT needs to divide the box of frags among themselves. This does turn out in more ERT having one grenade at any one time, but not a lot of nades to avoid from one person in particular. Teamwork generally trumps everything. -

The effective killing radius of a M67 Fragmentation Hand Grenade is within 5 meters of its dispersal of fragments and shrapnel. They have an effective casualty radius of 15 meters, however, shrapnel can stretch past that range and be thrown as far as 230 meters. Assuming every character is under or equal to 2 meters tall and each tile is two meters tall and wide, the expected instant kill radius would be within 3 tiles. Further than that, an individual suffering from fragment-caused injuries can potentially survive the damage but will be bleeding severely or will be in critical condition. While M67s are typically composed of Composition B, I have an inkling that more powerful primers would be used in the year 2459, in addition to light amounts of plasteel casings being used in order to throw fragments of sharp and robust materials at longer ranges. Generally speaking, frag grenades are working as intended. Antagonists may purchase them at an uplink or they may be found in other places. ERT has fragmentation grenades to pack in the event of external hostiles to drive off and deal with in succinct and efficient methods. Frag grenades are not "overpowered", but rather, "respectably powerful." Their current in-game design is practical in terms of what to expect when haphazardly sitting on a fragmentation grenade. Contrary to popular belief, nothing short of a bomb suit will save someone from the fragments blasting from a hand grenade, given the fragments fly at such a speed that they rival a hollow point bullet's velocity. Shrapnel resistant does not mean shrapnel proof. Frag grenades are highly deadly in the wrong hands and people should learn to respect the destructive power of such a weapon. They're fine. Buff players to learn when to run and when to fight, tbh. -

Frags are supposed to kill people in that way. It's the shrapnel that murders you, not the sheer force of the explosion. Position yourself diagonally from the grenade and it will rarely hurt you at all. -
Okay, there exist drum-mag shotguns. They have either 8-12 shots (can't remember which, either amount is fair) and are magazine fed in a drum. They're are the coolest dang thing ever but they're shelved as admin spawn only weapons even though they are not that OP to begin with, comparing with weapons like the terminator flechette gun or the BFG9000. It's a very tame weapon for the most part. I suggest adding them through cargo but making tweaks to ensure they are less accurate and have more spread than regular shotguns do, and have heavier recoil. The mags themselves can be added to the autolathe to produce but they shouldn't spawn with munitions. You can then use shotgun ammo speed-loader boxes to reload through into the magazine, which is already supported by the whole reload mechanics thing so no need to worry about making code adjustments there. This would make an actual use of what are seemingly unobtainable filler weapons that never made their way into an actual form of gameplay perspective. They do spawn occasionally in the vault safes, but who opens those regularly? The last time one was spawned was during the antag contest during the final week of the event.

It seems it was around the period you were permabanned. I do not really remember what you did to get it without opening a whole new dusty book to figure out what it was that warranted the response.

Note that you were not given forum warnings, nor discord warnings or the like on-server. Note that any statements made prior to Garn outlining whatever in the thread I made, were made after I told you off. So nothing else can be done retroactively beyond me telling you, "Okay, just kidding, pranked you hard there, I'll just abide by whatever guidelines the head admin states now." Since it wasn't clarified before. So the way I dealt with you (if it can be called that beyond passive-aggressive conversations that didn't last beyond a few lines, which is seemingly common between the both of us anyway?) was simply because I had no particular basis to work off of someone 'peanut posting' (basically, alongside other people, adding something not of particular worth and appears enough inflammatory that it could cause the guy to reply, had we not banned the guy quicker). Okay, hold your laughter there. It wasn't a threat. It was a guarantee provided you decided to go on and post like I warned you to not post in such a fashion, i.e. posting in worse faith than the original poster. As you know, you're on thin ice even after your unban and repeat offenses even under sketchier conditions, for the person who is repeating the offense, aren't particularly tolerated. A threat implies it's empty words being said to try and deter you from saying anything. Even taking into consideration what Garn said was fair game, you're probably better off not replying though you're not strictly disallowed. That was the point there. So, what this mean? Absolutely nothing. Retroactively nothing can be done, my word was overridden by an admin, and you weren't handed out a sliver of punishment. The matter you take issue with, in particular, was the matter of me "threatening" the ban. In particular, I made mention of that because you of all people should know when to control their temper and how they should respond to people. Garn's putting a lot of faith in you and I may not like it but I may as well damn respect it. So it's in your interest to not go further than where you've gone in this thread here. You do have a habit of flipping out at people, do you not have a history of that? Do you not see why people would be cautious in dealing with you, especially when you come out of left field with that original post there? Were you really surprised that you were dished something that you tried and dish first? Not that my response was justified. Looking back, it was a frustrated reply and it added absolutely nothing useful. I'm still adamant in believing you really need to chill out and avoid overcomplicating threads like I was outlining to be very bad to be participating in, and I also should respect when not to respond in the same manner to an extreme post like that in the same respect, because it seems like when the either of us come into play in 'discussion', for no particular reason it gets awfully personal and I'd rather not dwell on that nonsense from now on. As to the accusation of rudeness, pretty much not a lot I can say. Whatever people constitute as rude is a very flexible definition, if I offend by getting straight to the point and being frank then as part of my personal way of doing things, I won't really apologize for it. It keeps me on edge, properly able to respond and deal with an issue with a sense of urgency and dedication. Since I consider those things more of a virtue than being super squeaky nice and clean and sensitive, that's generally what you're going to get even if you have a distaste for it. And yeah, I flew off the handle calling you an asshole. You do tend to exaggerate and act alarmist to certain issues that demand more caution rather than it being thrown to the wind, otherwise you're going to be hollered at back so that you actually hear something that isn't fueled by your own irritations. I do have a distaste for the way you respond to issues, especially in which, displayed in the OP particularly, you have a penchant for invoking the mention of genitalia for some reason to drive your point? Which is not something I particularly resonate with. Since mama raised me the way I am, I did think it, albeit incorrectly, appropriate to holla back with the same intensity. Wrong, yes, but already established. As for the other screenshots you seem to have held onto for a long time. Why did you hold onto them for that long? Why did you even use them as an attempt at proving something? One is from, like, February (7 months ago), from either whatever happened with the ACN or the minecraft server or whatever you did to piss off GarnItzal at the time to earn the permaban. The next one was a statement that was said out of turn, I admit. From a month and a half ago. So that's almost five to six months of in-between there that you held onto. Everything else I've already covered. If you wanted to prove the two of us clearly have some underlying sexual tension personal issues going on, you sure proved it. Not much else can be garnered there.

The reconverting should not be optional. If a cultist has gotten themselves caught it's largely their fault, like it is for those who get converted to the cult. It should just be less reliable with a bit of risk to it. There should be a 30% chance of converting the person after a 5 second timer with the null rod. If it passes, the person is deconverted and loses all memory of them being a cultist and any of the actions they performed, in addition to forgetting who else was a cultist. If it fails, it should add 10 brain damage. Which, overall, is a 11.76% chance of a cultist potentially dying if all six attempts fail.

Oh okay, so telling them to fuck off while on a hair trigger anyway, with your history of attitude that you've been repeatedly hollered at by staff about, was totally justified, and you had no other response to give that was more polite, I'm sure you had nothing but good intentions by responding like an asshole to other people being frank with you and telling you to actually think what code language means. It is notoriously literal. You are psychologically projecting your own arguably worse social issues and assuming I suffer from the same ones. I find it really funny that I invoke tu quoque first by its origin phrase, "pot calling the kettle black", and then you try to turn it on me to sound smart? You are committing tu quoque, not I. In Matthew 7:3-5, it is criticism of a less significant failing by those who are worse that is the target of the Sermon on the Mount: "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" It is actually important to think about these things and how they apply to you before you go around accusing people willy-nilly of nonsense. I have recently permabanned a community member who thought it intelligent discourse to accuse everyone of lying while all of the proof that existed in the complaints, were evidence that the person themselves were wrong. Their attitude was extremely freaking shitty. I have zero obligation to mince words with someone with a history of viciously harassing other players, and exploding at the tiniest microaggression and claiming the slight was the worst possible offense against you. You're incredibly sensitive and your ego's fragile as heck. This shows in discussions with you OOCly and your characters appear to be on the same emotional hair trigger ICly. You outright do not care to see the effect of your interactions on other community members, if you did care you would've stopped being an alarmist, reactionary asshole by now. There is no reason for you to be flipping out at anyone like you do. What is your excuse for it, even? I will not apologize for doing my job and nipping malicious shitposting in the bud.

As it stands it is the only way to disable a diona without killing them, so it goes.

Jesus Christ. You have serious issues. Forget what I mentioned. Leaving this open any longer would be a mistake. Locked and marked as resolved. -
[Resolved] Player Complaint - Biabri
Scheveningen replied to ClearThoughts's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Yet in the same respect it's difficult to accuse someone who is providing logs and screenshotted proof of their own behavior, that they are lying, when the person calling the OP out themselves has absolutely zero intention of providing proof on their own to show the other side is lying. To lie is to deliberately be deceptive by way of fabricating evidence of some sort for any kind of agenda at all, typically a selfish and malicious one. I cannot exactly get it into my head how, from a rational perspective, that the only party that has provided proof so far is the one that opened this complaint. As part of the burden of proof, the person accusing others of lying must put forward a solid case backed with their own evidence as to whether their argumentative adversary is lying. [ cannot accuse someone of lying and just expect people to believe you.[/url] That's not how this works. If any of these particular quotes as part of their initial rebuttal are of any indication, it is clear they have absolutely zero respect for critique that involves them, or the community members themselves who are attempting to call this behavior into question in order to resolve it. Biabri has shown they have zero intention of responding to such attempts at a conversation in a polite and acceptable fashion, resorting instead to ad hominem attacks and accusations of lying flung wantonly. In combination with assaulting their own head of staff as a non-antagonist officer with more to lose, such as their own job, I have made up my mind at this point. Biabri already had this same discussion that initially led to their medical department ban for turning medbay into a chopshop, effectively doing what you're not supposed to do in your job like the SS13 wiki pages traditionally make fun of. These nuances we have on-server are what occur to most players here as "common sense", and you'd have to be pretty dang thick whether it's natural or you're being thick on purpose just to be difficult. I do not know which it is at this point, I don't care to dwell on it anymore. You're not actually supposed to fulfill the negative stereotypes the wikis make fun of, because doing that makes you extremely bad and unqualified for that job, and since this is an RP server, such deliberately stupid actions being carried out for deliberately stupid reasons shatters the whole of immersion that most people here happen to enjoy. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. It's also important to not be stupidly antagonistic and shit-talk in an open field where people can see it: . Whether deliberate or not, Biabri has not shown an attempt at improvement to their own behavior despite multiple staff outreach attempts and is seemingly repeating the same behavior despite being told they are to correct their path or future consequences will result from refusing to improve. That much is not justifiable. I will be resolving to apply an indefinite server ban, which may be appealed in one month's time at minimum. Any final comments can be made within a 24hr period where I'll lock this up and process it. -
[Resolved] Player Complaint - Biabri
Scheveningen replied to ClearThoughts's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
On top of the attitude you gave me when I informed you of the resolution, the extremely crap tone you took with me, in particular, were also what led to the 3-day server ban for you to cool off. Which is ultimately disappointing and goes to show you haven't learned anything. Or rather, you don't care to, and in turn you don't care to change how you do things on-server. So all of the effort we've put into trying to make you understand these issues we've brought up and help you come out a better player for it, in addition to me lifting your permaban in the first place, seems to have been a wasted effort. Right? -
It should probably print them out in their respective comms channels (including command), rather than like how it announces who the captain is.
-
Whatever your definition of harassment is, seems to be skewed, so assuming I'm using your definition of it, lemme provide something in perspective before you proceed to call the kettle black, Mr. Pots. Last time, on total drama Discord, episode #code_dungeon. If the above behavior coming from you isn't "harassing" then whatever I said to you from more than a month and a half ago, and then seven months ago in your other example, is not harassing either.
-
You're trivializing actual victims of harassment by thinking that a private message criticizing you over whatever happened in February, whether it was the ACN or whichever, somehow constitutes as harassment. A general comment from a month and a half ago, which, by the way, was not about the "character", but was about you. Yes they were talking about you, Klaus Eliade is your character, you confused Zelm with your statements. . Context of the image posted by another user highlighting your own behavior, which is not new, and stretches far back to the beginning of your playtime here on this server. You don't get to cry about assholes in the community when you act like one to other people. You've done more harassing than those people even deserve by themselves.

[Resolved] Player Complaint - Biabri
Scheveningen replied to ClearThoughts's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I will take the reigns again, considering I know what I'm getting into what with the last one. If you choose to go this route again without remotely considering what the other side has to say and engaging in non-hostile discourse again, I will not hesitate to clap you with a permanent server ban for this, because we are tired of having to waste our time trying to talk to a brick wall. That is not a threat, that is a guarantee for what will happen. You are required to look introspectively at your own actions on server and in-character and question yourself if those decisions were the right ones and if you could've done better, if you want to continue playing on this server. I am not telling you that they are 100% right (yet nothing the OP has said was incorrect, as I am checking over the logs to confirm this), but if you're going to approach this situation where you call out everyone against you as "lying" and refusing to add anything useful in your own player complaint, I'll save everyone plus the admin team the trouble and just remove you and get everything after that squared away. I wouldn't feel bad about it because if there is one thing you struggle with, it is hearing any other voice over your own and taking it to heart. I'll wait another day or so (three at most) to let discussion continue. If, in that timeframe, Biabri screws up on-server again and does something that is worthy of another department job-ban, then staff will be informed ahead of time to skip the pleasantries, as we're not going to waste our time job-banning you from every job as this keeps up. -
[Resolved] Character Complaint - jmj99/Ashley Jaeger
Scheveningen replied to Munks's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
What justification did they have then, to specifically target the Unathi, if they were not Ashley Jaeger due to the nature of how changeling works? Not that I'm asking you directly, because the only person that can properly defend one's own actions is the person being called into question over their conduct directly. I see it as very strange to inject character motivations like that as a changeling, a lethal alien bodysnatcher whose only real goals are to infiltrate humanoid society and sustain themselves with a wide array of mutagen powers in order to further build up their own strength. They adopt identities and mimick sentient behavior patterns in order to fit in. They are not the person whose identity they are adopting. A changeling has at least committed one or more murders in order to get where they are. That is the either fluff of how changeling works, they are a malicious genestealer. They are not a typical character. JMJ99 occupied a large portion of their round just spamming transform sting and not particularly providing anything further than that, while the rest of the station was going to hell due to traitors sabotaging the engine and other lings releasing N2O into the atmosphere.
