  1. I have had two pleasant experiences with having an additional chef. One of them ended with the person going to cryo, but they were still a cook that actually cooked and communicated. Too many times someone seems to pick the chef/cook slot to self antag or be a complete troglodyte. I've had chefs come in, say nothing, make a bunch of burnt messes, then start rapid firing profanities, ruin supplies, threaten my character, and proceed to do a bunch of stupid crap until the HoP showed up to remove them. It's no fun sharing a kitchen with complete idiots most of the time. It's already hard enough to keep the crew fed and the self-antags harassing the kitchen from outside. Also currently the exodus kitchen is too freaking small for two people. How are two people supposed to use the oven, microwave, and fryer at the same time, while getting supplies for each. It's a nightmare. Even when I had a competent other chef (or was being a competent other chef) it felt like we constantly ran into each other all the time. Thankfully we were almost always set to help intent so we just passed through each other. Still it's very annoying to be constantly displaced or displacing another person in a room clearly too small for two people. I don't really know what the kitchen in the Aurora II is like. I really haven't felt like playing most weekends and after a long history of being self antagged as my chef, I just stopped wanting to play kitchen for a while. I still feel that it would be better to limit the chef slot down to one, to help eliminate the chances of people getting doubled up with a psycho. However this does open up to the problem: What happens if a psycho joins first and just ruins the kitchen? Well I've seen bad chefs removed before, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a way to open the slot again. Just my opinion on the matter.
  2. It looks pretty good and I believe Nursie is a competent roleplayer. Phoebe Essel has been interesting to watch in action and talk to (even though she's another catlady medbay person). Nursie is also a pretty swell person OOC. The app looks good. Sadly, I'm not too familiar with Tajaran lore, so if I missed something major I don't mean to be giving it a pass. However, the backstory looks fine, I like the sense of adventure and desire to escape that Alissa feels. The thing is, what will Alissa do now she has escaped? Like what job will she do with NT (since that's your defacto place to go once escaping) and I always love hearing how a character actually ends up finding a job with NT. +1 from me.
  3. Paradox is pretty cool and good at making interesting characters that seem to have genuine personalities, instead of being the character that is needed depending on the situation. They have several other whitelists and have shown good grasps on the lore before. They know what is needed to make a character work. So with that I give them a +1. Still I would love to hear more how KC got into NT? It's just they get to human space and bam they are here. I think that might be fine for the whitelist backstory, but I'm genuinely curious.
  4. Thuy Huang is such a fun spontaneous character to interact with, while Kim Lowe is a more serious hardworking but fun loving individual. Lia is a relative newcomer to your roster and is looking to be as pleasant as your other characters. Your RP skill is solid and you're a pleasant person to talk to in and out of game. As for the actual app I like the backstory and it seems to fit the robotic nature of the character. I'd like to see more robotic robots in our midst as opposed to humans in chasis. You've put in a lot of thought for how the IPC will act and react around the situtations, and seem to have put in a lot of thought for how synthetics should work in general. It's nice to see that you genuinely care how a synthetic would act, even telling us speech patterns a human would have that your character would not. You really seem to take this serious and I like that a lot. +1
  5. Thank you for your comment. I really wanted to have Thrive working in Hydro because Hydro seems kind of fun to me and I don't think I've seen an IPC actually working Hydro (if someone glances at this and they are a hydro IPC I'm sorry). I thought it would be interesting to have an IPC running around checking the plants, wordlessly making produce. It would also be fun for cooks/chefs to basically use Thrive as a request console for certain types of produce for cooking. As for the Frontier, from my understanding it's literally the Wild West of the universe. It has a sort of "anything goes" with lore for it, so long as it follows basic in-universe logic. I like Wild West things and use the Frontier a lot for my characters. I will start looking into more stuff for characters as time goes on, but right now I'm content. Also still pretty new to the server and overall setting.
  6. Good question. I will not lie and did not think of it like that. In my head the family was part of a poor community living on the frontier who banded together to buy a synthetic to help get them some more money. I will say they were hired as something like indentured servants, where they must live and work in a place until they have earned enough money for their boss. With the IPC they were able to earn the money much faster and leave. Also I'm very slow at making backstories for a character. Perhaps I should have spent a bit more time on the backstory to give it something a bit more spicy. I'll definitely consider that in the future.
  7. Bump. I really picked a bad time to make this app with the weekend being for mod apps now, and I haven't been on server to advertise it any yet.
  8. BYOND Key: AllyBearsley Character Names: Francis Martonis, Sheila Mortiz, Matsuo Tatsuya. Species you are applying to play: IPC (Baseline) What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes, I have. It mostly goes over synthetics in general, but I can understand since it’s technically listed as the synthetics page on the list. IPCs are also synthetics but given a lot more freedom than the bound/lawed units we have on the station. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I want to get my toes wet and try out a non-human species. Robots and robotics has always been interesting for me, even though I haven’t participated in many activities involving it. IPCs seem very interesting to me since you can play a sentient robot or a preprogrammed one without being a cyborg/android. I like the fact they seem to play more like a regular character and would love to Roleplay a bot as it grows. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: As an IPC you are not born, you are created. This means a lot of things are chosen for you at birth, more so than an organic being. How you think, how you feel, and other things are literally set up for you. Not being given true free will is a very interesting concept and I’d love to play it out. Character Name: Official Designation: Unit B-02312 nicknamed “Thrive” by previous owners. Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs There was a simple IPC made from a small manufacturing firm in Tau Ceti sometime in early 2457. It was given a processing chip so it could handle menial labour jobs. After testing to ensure the unit could function, it was deactivated so it could be sold. It was purchased for a family on the Frontier, who needed aid farming. After taking some time to get the unit to actually activate, the family found the unit to be very adequate at the simple job of farming. Over time they began to call it Thrive, since it helped the family and farming community do just that. The farmers eventually saved up and paid their way into Tau Ceti. One family decided since Thrive helped them all so much it would only be right to bring it with them. Unfortunately the family fell on hard times as they tried integrating into Tau Ceti. Every member had to find a job, and even Thrive had to find some kind of work that paid. Although Thrive excelled at farming, the unit’s programming allowed it to handle a number of jobs including janitorial and basic maintenance work. With the recent political changes and the New Republicans being more open to synthetics than ever, the family was able to easily get some takers for Thrive. Eventually NT picked up the unit. Whether this was due to a shortage of qualified hydroponicists, general care for helping a synthetic or family, or NT looking to keep the New Republicans appeased by hiring more synthetics, is unknown. What is known is that Thrive was accepted into NT with a basic pay grade. Most of this money is transferred directly to the family that owns Thrive, while only a little is kept in a company savings account to pay for repairs/upgrades to the unit. Thrive now works in hydroponics for NT on the Exodus (and possibly the Aurora II when we get there). What do you like about this character? As stated before I like the idea of playing something that resembles humans but isn’t necessarily a human or even a real person for that matter. I want Thrive to be a machine first and foremost. As a machine it has functions to perform and it will work to perform them. It doesn’t have a true personality, instead it mimics organic emotions and mannerism to better fit in. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 6/10 on a scale where 5 is average. I definitely feel I am above average but not by much. I definitely feel I don’t emote enough and am working to get better. Notes: By light maintenance work I in no way mean “engineering” I mean like real life light maintenance, which is mostly upkeep on a building/location. Replacing light bulbs, keeping an area clean, crafting basic things like tables and chairs. Things along those lines.
  9. actually it's the opposite of my vote, but the doom I must face for the majority
  10. 1. isn't the embargo over? 2. let the meme die already. 3. bus fare is usually cheaper by a significantly smaller margin 4. please let the meme die already
  11. Hey there, sorry I don't know your character and generally go over if I believe someone is ready for a whitelist by their RP skills more than their ability to make something up based on the lore. Not to say that being good with lore isn't necessary, but for my own views I need to know someone has a solid idea for a character. You seem to have the lore bit down, though I must admit to not know too terribly much about the Tajara and their lore at the moment. As for the community, I'm pretty new myself and it can be a little hard to get noticed when you're still new. You are coming into a group that's been around for years and many of its members have had time to get to know each other better. Most people aren't just ignoring you or don't care to meet you, it's just that they don't know you yet and have a hard time just jumping up to meet new people. I suggest you get as active as you can, socialize. Meet people IC and OOC. Discord is a great way to kind of interact with more people for both IC and OOC. There is the main discord (if you haven't already joined) and a number of other ones. I don't even know all of the specific discord servers. I do know there are two IC ones that are ready to be linked should you just ask. Lastly, Aurora moves slowly sometimes. This is just a fact. Whether it's good or bad is up to the person. Don't get discouraged if your post goes unnoticed for a few days. Just periodically bump it and post a link in game or on the discord to try and lure more people in.
  12. Well I'm going to be the bad egg and disagree with others. I do not think Drake Costle is a good character, at least right now. Drake Costle's character seems to change from round to round and from how Dronz is currently feeling. Sometimes he is a perfectly acceptable quatermaster. Sometimes he's a pretty princess who needs to nab/order costumes and play dress up with his best friends. Sometimes he's a heroic saviour to his less fortunate friends. He also seems to be a character who pulls random skill sets out of his rear. Now I understand that certain characters have deep histories which can give them a wide set of skills. However, when Drake pulls out combat/engineering skills it seems more random and less genuine. I believe a character should have a limit on what they know, which is often times less than the player. I wish I could feel the character was more on a solid lock down on who they are. I believe Dronz is working toward that now, but I do not feel they are fully deserving a whitelist. -1 as of right now.
  13. Oh if there's an obvious origin machine and this can be solved by fixing that. I'm totally fine with this. There's just the problem of going afk in certain rooms and having a vending machine gun you down while you're gone. I don't like the sound of that, but the overall idea of making this a real event that needs work is good. I'd love to see more events that aren't antag related and involve cooperation within the station.
  14. Alright Para, ya know I like ya. I like your chars and general attitude. Plus your RP is pretty on point, it almost always seems like you're playing a genuine character and not just something that's an excuse to do certain things. I'm not the best lore junkie here, but I'm liking what I'm seeing. However, gotta say the backstory gets a little hard to read toward the end since you repeat a lot of words and need to just kind of proofread/edit the last couple paragraphs. Still neat seeing a Diona "born" in such conditions. +1 from me.
  15. I really don't have too much to add to the complaint, since things have been explained in a pretty good way. However, I have slightly more than a little to say about things expressed here. First I really don't see Coalf's point in pointing out "I don't like how this character is designed" since I believe someone simply saying that could bring up something further; however, it can also just show that maybe it's just the person talking's perspective is off and the other talks around the complaint can help. I don't see nuke's point in just making a PM/DM is because sometimes you don't even kind of know the player of another character and we have this board for a reason so why not use it? I don't see having your character on this board as any huge negative. It's simply a place for someone to make a complaint on a character and hopefully have it resolved. Now that's not to say that maybe they couldn't have, or I believe that PM/DM's are useless. I'm just saying sometimes using a board for its designed operation is fine too. And for Elohi, I am a guy who is learning that sometimes "find out ICly" doesn't always work for char dev to others. Sometimes you're working on something for a character, but others perceive it differently or completely incorrectly. Sometimes people see glaring flaws in it that simply hasn't been expressed further in IC and need it cleared up OOCly before proceeding. People will meta regardless of what you do. Sometimes for character development it is good to plan with others how you want to reach your end goal, so that the end goal is actually obtainable.
  16. While I have had several interactions with "Sid" and can say several of them were interesting, I can fully agree that his character often comes off as less of an Unathi and more of just a human who exaggerates his s's. I can understand an outcast trying to get on well with humans, but that's all "Sid" seems to try to do. He just uses his Guwan status as less of an exile and more of an excuse to just be around as few Unathi as possible. The actual backstory around the Guwan title seems less of an actual part of the character and more of an excuse for people to feel sympathy for him. Now that being said, my biggest problem with Sid isn't really Sid himself, but the atrocious metaclique that has formed around him. There are too many people who will flip their shit and basically lynch anyone who so much as brings up the fact Sid is an outcast. Call him "Guwan" they remind you his name is "Sid". Refuse to simply to do this, prepare to be on their shit list forever. They are extremely aggressive about making sure every negative action done to Sid is avenged tenfold, even if it is just a minor one. Threats have been made, fights have happened, and I feel this attitude is very poor for overall RP and general interactions on the server. It's fine to be upset that someone insulted your friend, but show a bit of restraint and basic understanding.

Later toward the time the shift was ending he told the Head of Personnel on duty, “You suck” before running away to departures. Once at departures we he threw banana peels every tripping people up. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?:No, see additional notes for why Actions taken: I removed the banana peels from the ground wherever I could. Additional notes: We had dealt with a severe radiation outbreak on the science outpost, had a swarm of carp attack the station, and were having to deal with breaches across the station. The crew was a little on edge at the time and Command was focused on simply trying to get us out safely. I was unable to get a report out to command about the wild officer since the shuttle took damage from a lone carp that managed to smash a window.
  18. I don't think removing cloning as an option for non-Command crew members would be good, in anyway at all. I do think cloning is kind of a cheap "get out of death free" card, and sometimes I think cloning is just fine. Especially for people who expect to go AFK for just a minute, get caught up in something for a while, and then get back to find out they were space bear'd. I'm am actually strongly against the removal of cloning in any way, but I believe there should be strong incentives to not die or abuse the cloning system. More than just some people saying, "RP better." Maybe having a persistent bank account and make cloning cost a lot of money. Maybe have cloning give your character a random negative that the person must RP out for a duration. I'm not saying blindness or losing the ability to use limbs, I'm talking more like a message saying "You forget everything about the first person you dated and that bothers you." Maybe little stuff like that. I don't really know what will work, or if this even is a problem that can really be fixed.

Robin responded and promptly arrived to clean the kitchen. While Robin was finishing up his cleaning, Security starts calling on commons to arrest Robin for “not cleaning”. Mind you the station had just dealt with Space Bears, much of the crew were injured, and there were messes everywhere. However, the station was also still in Code Green. So when four Security Officers surrounded the Kitchen, with weapons drawn and no warrant, we refused, and requested they show a warrant. Security then tried forcing their way in through multiple entrances, including the hallway counter, without warning. I closed the shutters since I felt it was an unlawful entry. Eventually security were able to break open the entrance from hydroponics. Kiera Fairbanks threw a flashbang into the room without warning. After it blinded us, she then barged in with a weapon drawn before putting Robin in cuffs. Officer Braddock soon entered the kitchen with weapons drawn, threatening me and Cook Rill,. Eventually he hit Rill with what I assumed to be as stunbaton. Eventually they removed Robin in cuffs. I was then scolded by Sean Thomson who claimed the shutters for the kitchen were “not meant to keep people out, and it was unlawful to attempt to do so to anyone.” Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: Yes. Captain Jarod Dvorsky and Luka Brala (Ornias). Actions taken: I reported the incident to the Captain shortly after it was concluded. He informed me that he was handling security himself. I also reported the incident to Luka Brala, when he arrived on the station; however, I believe Mr. Brala had his hands full with a wild barkeep. Additional notes: I have full faith that Captin Dvorsky handled the situation to the best of his ability; however, with the station being in the state it was in I want to ensure that Central Command knows about the misconduct performed by the Security Team.

  21. What Sharp said, plus today 7/5/2017 Julian McCoy entered the station as a Psychologist and immediately had people back him up with all the authority he has. I don't like this at all. The character feels absolutely forced to be in that position, and quite frankly I don't like a person who knows they have a char complaint and refused to comment on it, stepping in any position of power. I especially do not like the passive aggressive "I won't be brought down" attitude I've seen and heard displayed IC. I don't have logs but people have told me Julian McCoy has IC said things along the lines of "They'll see what they get for not having me involved." I am now in full support of changing my complaint from character to player complaint as I was asked by another moderator to do. Quite frankly the attitude displayed by Frenjo stinks.
  22. I'm not even gay enough for this
