1. Closing due to lack of response.
2. Lets begin with this real quick- to clarify, I and another administrator personally witnessed you hand over a handcuffed antagonist to a doctor to be taken into surgery, before immediately walking to the chair outside of surgery and disconnecting within the minute. Perhaps you personally define 'finishing off' the antags as having taken them into custody, but regardless, those were the circumstances. Now, onto the main issue. You've largely outlined exactly why you received the ban. This is beneficial, if you acknowledge the issue that resulted in the ban you're far more likely to avoid it again in the future. There's just one more issue. You do, indeed, have an extensive history. To be exact, you currently have 76 staff notes, 12 distinct warnings, and 17 distinct bans over the course of your time here. This makes me severely call into question your specific statement, "but after I deal with Antags?" To be frank, at this point, what does it matter? Does this imply you intend to break each individual rule until you've hit the limit, before moving onto trying the next? You have been given an obscene number of opportunities to rejoin the community while following the rules. You have been given a significant amount of leeway with each of your punishments. Yet, each time, there is a different issue- how many times are we expected to assume this time there won't be? You have 7 distinct notes, warnings, bans, for this exact topic, ranging almost your entire time-frame on the server. On top of your 69 other entries for other issues. You should know well, by now, to ahelp if you are going to be suddenly removed from the round, particularly as such a vital role as a head of staff. If you're aware you cannot rely on your internet under these circumstances, why do you play the role? Barring that, after having been talked to, warned, and banned for this exact issue prior, why do you still fail to appropriately inform staff of this, if you happen to have enough warning to begin moving to cryo? The permanent ban is not specifically because you logged off in the middle of the round after dealing with the antagonists. That event is, metaphorically, "the straw that broke the camel's back". The permanent ban was applied as a result of both this, and the fact that you have failed to learn from previous punishments over the same issue, or any other issue, and continue to break these rules. Once again- why is this time different? Why should we think this will not occur again?

Misconceptions

Korinra You seem to be using an odd snippet of evidence in favor of your view on the captain. I'm not 100% sure where it's from, but I believe that's an excerpt from the Captain guide page, correct? An OOC "you should probably do this" note does not equate to a hard IC regulatory/legal stance. Yes, a captain should generally follow regulations and generally CCIA/station command would authorise a warrant against a captain massively abusing their power (or they'd just get bwoinked,) but that is not expected to happen considering the vetting NT's captains go through. Instead, captains are given the authority and regulatory lee-way to be able to do essentially anything they need to in order to maintain effective operation of the station. Essentially, the CCIA notice trumps an OOCly suggested guideline.
4. Where's the bathroom? I also agree that the lobby should remain facing north, and the emergency entrance to the west. Yes, that means the emergency entrance is more easily accessed than the lobby-- that's the point. I enjoy this in the new layout. It makes sense and isn't overly debilitating to play.
5. Cultists can already summon dead players, though as far as I am aware they cannot put them in constructs- If this were possible, it seems like it would be very easy to steamroll the station with large numbers of constructs, and cult does not need this buff. Certain wizard types can already do this, such as Druids summoning familiars and Necromancers summoning skeletons. Vampire does not need this buff. Xenobiology can summon adamantine golems. Player-controlled blobs may or may not be considered in the future, it is an idea that has crossed the dev team's radar many times but has not been implemented yet. pAIs already exist. Research can print positronic brains, and can perform experimental surgery to implant them in human bodies (theoretically), or simply construct a cyborg. While it's understandable that the game may not be fun after you have died, a large amount of these suggestions would be straight buffs to the antagonists or roles that create them, and would drastically affect game balance if it were this easy to recruit dead players into their folds. Even despite that, it's an unfortunate reality that you can and likely will die on any given round, and you are free to either disconnect or wait out your respawn timer to rejoin the round as a new character. These changes are largely unnecessary. -1
6. I don't see why Crossfire is singled out, besides simply being a recent event. This could theoretically apply to any voted gamemode with a pop cap. While I agree with the concept, I'm concerned with how this could affect voting meta in general- as it is, any vote besides extended or secret is relatively rare, because it is generally accepted that it's difficult to get the server to agree on a single gamemode. This would exacerbate that problem by not only requiring a majority agreement, but a majority agreement that also reaches a certain size. While that's nice in theory, I feel it will only result in further driving people to vote nothing but secret or extended.
7. Appeal accepted. I'd encourage you to read the rules once more before you hop on the server actively, just given the time it's been. And, if you have any further doubts about character actions while you're playing, remember it's always better to ahelp before than get bwoinked after.
8. Add it to mechs instead of RIG suits, and +1. Mechs need love, not RIGs.
9. Combat cyborgs add nothing to the round. The borgs are already in the round, they just start going around murdering the antagonists. At least when ERT are called it brings in new characters to go around murdering the antagonists. Any circumstances that would require combat cyborgs apply to calling ERT. ERT is just combat cyborgs with a slight delay and an actual possibility at adding something to the round instead of/in addition to removing the antags from it. The point is: just call ERT. +1
10. I see no points in this thread that are a result of "tea encouraging unrealistic roleplaying" as much as I do points that are "I failed to properly report unrealistic roleplaying when I saw it." My point being, we can nitpick minor mechanics in the code all day, all week, all month, all year, and it will never, ever, completely end unrealistic roleplaying. Instead, it needs to be explained to them that what they are doing is bad roleplaying and, in fact, against the rules, so that it simply stops happening in general. Adminhelp doctors, CMOs, prescribing tea/turning patients away because they can drink tea. Adminhelp people suffering from toxins who rush for and spam tea. Adminhelp people carrying around tea just to deal with minor toxins, and no realistic reason. They'll be told not to do it. They'll either stop, and in general become a better contributor to the server community and roleplaying environment, or eventually they'll get banned.
11. As of right now, there is absolutely 0 medical use for a defibrillator. No medical conditions require its use. This is better off as a suggestion for new medical mechanics.
12. I have no reason to doubt Resilynns ability to play a Skrell character, given I have always had pleasant role-playing experiences with them in the past, and their character is well-developed and unique in their application. The affinity of Skrell toward human culture is a facet that has been frequently mentioned in the news and elsewhere, but something I rarely see depicted on the station, and I believe it would provide interesting and entertaining interactions for Resilynn and others to explore through this character and their whitelist.
13. This same argument applies to all the lights, cameras, and APCs that randomly break throughout the round. It isn't necessarily a function of realism as much as giving engineering something to do besides initial engine setup and waiting for antags to break something. That said, I definitely agree this shouldn't be something that completely disables the doors. Even broken APCs don't stop power flow, they just render the interface inaccessible until fixed (as I understand it). Broken airlocks would be a massive pain. I like the idea of a small progress bar for each time the airlock opens, if that's feasible.
14. There are events that randomly break cameras, lights, and APCs to my knowledge. Creating a similar event that doesn't break airlocks, but rather makes them less effective/more inconvenient until fixed, is something I can get behind. That way it is not constantly happening to all the airlocks on the station, which would get very annoying very fast.
15. DatBerry Thanks for the feedback- I appreciate it, and I've edited the backstory in a way I hope solves the points you've brought up.
16. BYOND key: TheDocOct Character names: Lily Kadel, Halogen How long have you been playing on Aurora?: A month or so over a year. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I’m interested in the unique positions of leadership and management that come with command roles, and creating interesting characters to fill them. Why did you come to Aurora?: Originally, I joined Aurora because I was bored and exploring. Pretty soon, though, I ended up staying for the long haul. The role-playing atmosphere and general community is pretty unmatched in Space as far as I've ever seen, and I enjoyed it greatly, so here I am. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think role-play is, and should be about: Role-play is, pretty simply, playing the role of a character. You create something new, a person and their story, and you give it life by playing it out without all these other people that have created their own stories. Role-playing is a form of story-telling, and on this server, a way for everyone to come together and build those stories together using whatever wacky or horrible things happen during the round as fuel to make them bigger and better. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, in-game?: OOCly, the Heads of Staff exist to prevent a round from dragging on into stagnation. Left to their own devices, most roles are fairly content to complete their tasks alone or forgo them completely to do some other thing that's caught their attention, and little 'work' gets done. The Heads of Staff ensure the crew works, and works together, in order to create a station as a whole rather than a map with pockets of people all over it. At the same time, they are responsible for providing opportunities to that crew for role-playing, be it the RD coming up with some new science project, the Captain mandating new criteria for the station to meet by the shift's end, or something as simple as acting in a certain way to spur response from their co-workers. This extends to antagonists, as well- while the Heads of Staff are responsible for creating an effective crew, they're also responsible from reigning in unbelievable and possibly rule-breaking behavior from them, and not just security. Overall, they need to do their best to make the round enjoyable. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players are expected to uphold the rules and expectations of the server, and to be good representatives of what the server tries to accomplish. When a security player looks to a HoS player, they see what's considered acceptable enough to be whitelisted for the most important roles on the station and a HRP server. That HoS player should be acting in a way that appropriately portrays that responsibility. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Asha Weir Character age: 36 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Hailing from the Eridani Corporate Federation, Asha Weir was born on Satet in the early years of its rapid population growth to an EFN Corpsman and his wife, a local manager to the recently deteriorating Einstein Engines megacorporation. During her formative years, she looked up to her mother's relatively successful position within the primary shareholder of the Federation, and under her tutoring strove toward following her footsteps. As the discovery of Phoron sank into the galactic economy, and Einstein Engines began to collapse, the plan became unsteady. She earned a bachelor's in human resources management, and after graduation she suddenly hired into the EFN as a personnel officer in spite of the plans made with her family, eventually falling out of contact with her mother and straining her relationship with her father as she pursued her own wealth over maintaining her family connections. As Einstein Engines' economic prospects sunk and NanoTrasen continued to rapidly balloon through its new supermaterial, the upstart megacorporation seemed increasingly lucrative. With the commissioning of the original NSS Aurora in 2446, Asha turned her eyes to the Tau Ceti system, and much as she did to her home, she quickly abandoned her role in the Navy in order to pursue a human resources career within NanoTrasen, resulting in her eventually promotion to Head of Personnel among the megacorporation's Cetian businesses. What do you like about this character?: I like the idea of her background, as it has always seemed to me that Epsilon Eridani is a bit untapped. I think this also creates an interesting character that I want to play, in that her life has largely been nothing but the corporate life. What do you dislike about this character?: I’m not entirely sure how the corporate background will actually play out in practice, but I’m interested in seeing what happens either way. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: She has the appropriate qualifications for the role and has had plenty of experience in the field of employee management in her history. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own role-playing?: I would probably rate myself at around a 7 to 8 out of 10. I’d like to believe I can create and maintain a unique character fairly well, though I can’t say I’m able to do so with as much depth and detail as some other players on the server. Extra notes: None.
17. I haven't formed much of an argument for or against much of the OP yet, but I do have some additional points I'd like to raise at the beginning of this conversation. Being a decent antagonist is really hard. Not just being a good antagonist, either, but even just a decent one, is really hard. This is said from my point of view, however: as antagonist, ideally, I would involve at the better part of two to three departments at the least. Other antagonist players may not see this as their goals. While I might find it very difficult to come up with and accomplish a gimmick or goal that makes me feel like a good antagonist, other players can and probably do. This leads back to your two central points, the "selfishness" of antagonistic players. When I begin a round as an antagonist, my immediate thought is, "what am I going to do to engage people with me?" It doesn't matter what antagonist (though to note, I generally only play external ones and traitor,) I am at the time, my first thought is to find a way to, preferably, engage the largest portion of the station I can. Depending on what antagonist I get thrown, I might have no idea what to do. Having felt that myself I'm not really sure I can ever fault another group of antagonists for not being able to come up with a detailed or effective plan as to how they will do that themselves within, say, fifteen minutes. Contracts are limited in number and in scope, only available to certain antagonists who have uplinks, and to be frank, some if not a large portion of them are bad in my opinion- in this case meaning they would not help stimulate RP if they were pursued.
18. +1 For changing all headset communications to show a standard radio headset icon. Having icons in general should be kept due to the infamous radio duplication spam of having active intercoms/station bounced radios sitting around. Even if it may not be realistic to know exactly where that duplication is coming from, I wouldn't exactly call it a feature to have to deal with that. That said, there is 0 reasonable explanation for someone to know what type of headset you are using, even the AI/borgs, as that is handled through encryption keys inside the headset, not the headset itself.
19. As mentioned in the linked post here, https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=10114&p=90829#p90829, Sharp and I spent the better part of 3 hours working on a redesign of the Sol Alliance's military pages, trimming redundant or incorrect information and focusing on the unique and/or notable aspects of the topic. The redesign can be found included in a spoiler in the linked post.
20. Abos has always been pretty involved in the lore and made his best efforts to improve it through personal canonization apps or just working with the team to help improve things, and I have no doubt that as a member of it he'd contribute just as much if not more than he already has. He's already proven his writing capabilities through the aforementioned apps and his short stories, and is certainly active enough to sustain a reasonable amount of work for the team.
21. I'm almost always available to communicate via text on Discord, thanks to nearly always having my mobile on me, however voice chat may be a larger issue, particularly on a weekly basis, depending on scheduling. Weekends would be the most likely availability, and even then what parts of the weekend I'm free is a very nebulous situation. I can certainly do my best to organize ahead, however, if there is a set schedule for these meetings. I would focus mostly on the clarification and expansion of NanoTrasen corporate lore, particularly some of the more day-to-day factors of it, such as the Odin and how it functions compared to that of a government-run city, more detail on the overall corporate operation of the company such as the oddly sparse amount of structure above the individual station, and the standard services of life that NanoTrasen has enveloped as they became landlord, mayor, and governor of civilians, such as civilian emergency services, utility services, and quality of life differences under NanoTrasen residences- simple, but important details of life spent living under your own employer's roof. At this point, I've had my say and that's about it. I don't have to personally be happy with it or believe it is the correct direction to go, but in the end I am the deputy, not the developer, and not the head developer, and so that decision is not mine to make regardless of how strongly I might feel about it personally. If it were something incredibly unwarranted that I don't believe is an issue of my taste alone, such as the recanonization of clowns and mimes being standard on all NanoTrasen installations, it might warrant staff complaint, but I don't see that happening. If you're not online, then the next step in the chain would be Jackboot, and then Skull. Assuming this is happening in official channels it would be relatively easy to point out, and if it were in private messages, I could present evidence to the supervisor in question. Either way, if it were happening to such an extent that I found it aggressive and disrespectful, I'd be directing the higher-ups to it. If no-one is immediately available, I'm patient enough to wait for someone to come online- I'm not particularly interested in making the situation any worse than it already is. Much like the last question, if it got to such a point that there is open fighting, there's not much for me to do on my part that I likely haven't already tried. At this point it would be best to try and de-escalate the situation as best I can, likely leaving them to keep their edits that they want (and directing someone to the wiki edit logs if necessary), and to wait for someone to come online to actually make a decision rather than to try and fight over the results each of us want. I'd explain this fact to them as I saw it, and try to suggest alternatives to their suggestion that might carry the spirit of suggestion without any of the questionable bits of personal favoritism, if possible. If not, I'd unfortunately just have to inform them that that suggestion wouldn't be able to be added because of the narrow focus on their own characters, and that they should probably focus on a broader topic that might cover their intended subject but not solely benefit them. As a lore deputy- not my lane. If it's rulebreaking-ly bad, as the question seems to imply, I would proceed to alert administrative staff. Given, though, that I am said staff, I would point it out to another present but unrelated staff member if possible, and if not, handle it with a "tone it down" verbal warning and summary strike if they failed to do so, as having this continue to go on in a public scene just because I happen to be the subject is not as much of an option as in past questions.
22. I play engineering alongside Evangeline semi-regularly lately, and pretty much any time there is a situation, their advice and direction is accurate and efficient. On occasions it's managed to beat back and repair pretty catastrophic situations, and I have no doubts that as a Chief they'd be able to fulfill their duties as needed. I can speak against the concerns of prematurely leaving the round, as I actually can't recall a single instance of this in my memory, having played with them fairly often.
23. Ckey/BYOND Username: TheDocOct Position Being Applied For: Deputy human lore developer Past Experiences/Knowledge: I enjoy writing and have written several articles of lore for previous communities I've been involved in, that of which I've been able to save is included below. I have also written campaigns for role-playing games similar to DnD reaching several months each. Examples of Past Work: Lore writing for a private sci-fi roleplaying server run by friends (written about four years ago, now) found here; https://docs.google.com/document/d/1e7tWiB21ZEpEvLcEXEzkFUH_WHcIGy9gLO2frx4ZdkY/edit?usp=sharing Additional Comments: I'm very eager to be able to work more closely with lore; I like working with developing settings and being able to just talk about the concepts of what could and might be, especially when it is a subject I have always had a vested interest in such as the lore's corporations and our immediate setting, the Republic of Biesel and NanoTrasen. I like to ask questions about content and for clarification, which I think to be a good thing in the development of new lore in that the more fleshed out a piece is before publicizing, the better. I think that, recently, lore has taken a good turn toward involving players with character-affecting situations such as the Mendell City phoron incident, and the new development of slice-of-life news. However, these have been few in the past six or so months I have been dedicated to the server and I'd be happy to put effort into the development of more substance that can be more readily absorbed by the playerbase's character, such as the potential writing of articles or the development of more casual topics to populate the lore side of the wiki with.
24. It's good that you've taken the steps to understand you messed up- it'll get you a lot further in the future if you're willing to learn, and it seems like you are. The main issue here was your disconnecting after you were contacted in admin PMs. If you did not notice it, I suppose I can't blame you for that- there is a very small amount of time between the point I began writing to you and the time the message sent, but anything's possible. Given this was mostly a ban to force you to come forth with an explanation for your actions after disconnecting, and you have, I see no reason to keep this ban in place so long as you understand that you need to read the rules and try and follow the higher standards for role-play that we have here, more so than other servers, and that further issues would be punished as they come up. If you're ever in doubt, admin-helping is always a good way to clear up confusion before you do something you're not sure is allowed or not. All that, said, appeal accepted.
