My two cents is that this is a wonderful idea of solving the mechanical issues that plague Cyborgs. Even if this does not solve the lore or roleplay implications, it is definitely a step up from what we have currently. Personally I feel it is too much to ask for ONE PERSON to solve a major roleplay issue, which probably requires a lot more input from lore devs. So, I'm up for implementing this.

I sure hope reactions are disabled for sections such as ban appeals...

The Aurora Style Guide And Sprite Contribution Manifesto
wowzewow replied to wowzewow's topic in Guides & Tutorials
On Contained Sprites 1. Abolishing contained_sprites as a folder altogether. Contained sprites is going to be our de-facto way we do sprites going forward. Therefore, as the default, it shouldn't be put aside into one folder since it's our new standard. Custom items are an obvious exception to this. 2. Try to match the OG path as much as possible. This'll save time digging around in .dmis looking for their paths when you simply can copy paste the in-code path. Works both ways. 3. Try to sort similar categories together As above, easier to search up. Plus, might as well use BYOND's inheritance thing. Good example is the sweater accessories. Thus, we can knock out the contained_sprite = TRUE out in one shot rather than manually setting each and every one. 4. If it is an image or overlay, put it with the object it is supposed to be overlaid with. If not possible, use path of object overlaid with instead. For example, the Skrell projector, the overlay effect is in the same .dmi for convenience reasons. -

Above looks great honestly. Finally, crayons will be an essential kit for all EVA missions

I guess you could re-use some of my ideas from here. Some new ones : Departmental Exchange Program (self explanatory) Musical Chairs (I've implemented picking up chair code and there's plenty of jukeboxes...) Spin-The-Bottle

Yeah, honestly I was just spitballing with lawyers. Maybe a corporate police of some sort? To make sure for example, a Zavodskoi Officer wasn't unfairly treating a Hephaestus employee. As for the commissary, I was thinking more of making it semi-official those shops Assistants sure like constructing an awful lot. They should not be handling weapons, or anything of significant importance.

The vestiages of the past have come to haunt us again, whispers of a department called 'Med-Sci' bring shivers down people's spines... With that out of the way, with the introduction of "Command Support", it got me thinking about other jobs which don't particularly fit in their departments, but not in any other either. I feel like they can be the intermediaries encouraging interdepartmental play. Anyway, here's my proposal. "Command Support" renamed to "Com-Srv" (Command Service). Technically holding none of the power of command but acting as the bridge (har har) between command and everyone else, I feel like this is a good existing example of what to expect. All heads of staff are part of their own categories as well, the HOS being Com-Sec, HOP being Com-Srv, etc. With that example in mind, here are the suggestions. Note that there will be mapping changes as well that puts them inbetween both departments "Med-Sci" Chemistry They really have nothing to do after stocking the medical fridge. Putting them in science encourages to go after secret chems and actually have something else to do. Also, giving scientists sulfuric acid, I guess. Map changes : Moved inbetween medical and science. Machinist They heal robotic limbs and organs, hell, even have a dedicated surgery room. I find it kind of weird having them be in Ops. They don't really fit in. Map changes : moved inbetween medical and science. There is a shared operating theatre between medical and the machinist. Probably only used by medical only if other ORs are unavailable. "Med-Sec" Forensic Technician/Detective Map Changes : Instead of having to bug medical and then drag the body all the way to their own dedicated morgue, they just share medical's big morgue. First Responder/EMT They don't particularly do any fighting, but they're always near the front lines, and need as much authority and access as security to do their job. This simple title change will give a little nudge to take them more seriously. "Med-Srv" Psychologist The least medical-like-medical job. They do not have any capacity to heal anyone whatsoever. Hopefully this change will shift away some responsibility for them. "Eng-Med" Atmospheric Techs/Engis A bit of a stretch. They keep everyone alive with air. In a perfect world they would be in charge of cryo tubes and keeping the sleepers hooked up properly instead of them having magic chems. "Eng-Sci" Engine Technician/Anomalous Materials We sure do have a lot of interesting methods of power generation. You know, in the movies when the nuclear reactor melts down, there's always scientists running away and stuff. So long as we follow standard insertion procedure, we should be fine... "Eng-Srv" Janitor It's been tried before, and it's definitely possible for Janitor to be with Engineering. This is the middle ground instead of flat out putting them in Engineering. "Sec-Srv" (Corporate) Lawyers (and similar) Honestly, makes sense. Would be fun to see some legal shenanigans, especially for a HRP server like ours. Service Officer (NEW) The desk jockeys and camera watchers for Security. Good for the unrobust or disabled characters. Or the characters who simply "are not ready to retire!" Typically not allowed to do combat unless in DIRE emergencies. "Sci-Srv" Xenobotany/Botany In an ideal world, hydroponics would be a much more important job, being in charge of oxygen generation, water recycling, etc. But here we are. A lot like chemistry in that regard, being allowed to be their own job without being chained down to the chef in this regard. "Ops-Sci" Mining A relationship unmatched even by Romeo and Juliet. Materials go in, presents come out. Xenoarcheologist They go out in the field as well to dig up cool science stuff. 'Nuff said. "Ops-Srv" Commissary (NEW) The on-board merchant of the ship. A more casual version of cargo, selling snacks and trinkets. Also to make deals with merchants too.

Eh, I'm not a fan. I'm a sucker for four letter acronyms. This would also mean we'd have to annoyingly scrub and modify every mention of the TCFL from the codebase, as well as the Wiki. Which would be extremely annoying. I'd prefer if the TCFL was a subdivision or at least part of a larger, Tau Ceti Army. This would explain why the TCFL gets involved with Horizon and Aurora : the TCFL mostly sends ships abroad to deal with intergalactic affairs while the main Army is back home to deal with local affairs.
-
Ah. Then that's fine then.
-
Hard NO to the additional language slots. Other than that this idea is alright.
-
I would agree with standardization. Maybe with more different sizes, though. Small/Medium/Large. Would help with variety. We've already had a near miss with the TCFL ship getting a ad-hoc dock. It's time we clamp down on this before the whole Horizon becomes a mess of docks.

You know. Other servers have a "change direction" proc. May be horribly ass to implement. But it *is* possible.

gem has put in a lot of effort to ensure their PRs are clean and work well, and they're a pleasant person to work with. +1.

New! I made a Skrell Tarot Card projector thing for Olivia, again. Also, an addendum, I can do some light coding, if you want. Need a feature that you desperately need? Right now? Give me a ping. Or whatever.

I think that would just confuse more people when Deck One and Deck Three is suddenly swapped around after a few months of NBT. I would understand the switch if other people have this problem, but this sounds like a problem that only you have.

So, anybody who's worked in any capacity in the military or goverment has definitely had to deal with classified documents and things. And hence, in these areas, "Red Zones" if you will, for security and privacy reasons, things like camera phones, GPS, internet connections and etcetera are disabled. Maybe for places such as the offices of the Heads of Staff, where inside there's a area mapped where suit sensors become *CLASSIFIED* and the only cameras are on the outside. I think this will be a reasonable and believable addition to give antags a bit more leeway.

Although it's in good faith, I think giving the moderation team more work is not advisable.

Niennab - Spriter Application
wowzewow replied to niennab's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Nienna is a cordial and polite member of the community and I no doubt think they'll be a welcome addition to the developer team. Their sprites are pretty good and the fact that they taught themselves how to use Git and make pull requests is already a major plus. Give it my +1 -
Seeing this picture, I'd even start advocating to stop Unathi from wearing shoes other than slippers altogether. Honestly, I don't have any strong opinions on way or the other. It's just we aren't committing fully. I'd like some input from the lore team whether we should double down on the Unathi/Tajaran accomodations or forgo them altogether, because right now, we're kind of at a unsatisfying midpoint where nothing is really enforced. Unfortunate fact of the matter is that being unique means having to deal with the consequences of being unique. Which means less customization options for players, and people will definitely start the lynching once the loadout gets touched.
-
I'm not removing anything, if that's what you're thinking.
-
This was supposed to be an interesting feature to make Unathi and Tajarans unique by limiting their clothing options. But at this point, it's useless because you can just go on the loadout anyway to get special gloves/shoes which immediately makes the preceding moot. So I'm gonna get rid of it. Less overhead maintenace from having approximately 3x of every single glove and shoe unique for every species. As well as saving loadout points for more important Xeno paraphernillia. (Except Vaurca, because they are special boys.) Immediate benefits : Sneakers and Hightops for Unathi and Tajarans. Any strong protesters say your objections now, or forever hold your peace.
-
honestly this boils down to tweakign the values, it makes sense for tajarans to collapse because they are coded to have high taste sensitivity and weakness to hot food
