New! I made a Skrell Tarot Card projector thing for Olivia, again. Also, an addendum, I can do some light coding, if you want. Need a feature that you desperately need? Right now? Give me a ping. Or whatever.

I think that would just confuse more people when Deck One and Deck Three is suddenly swapped around after a few months of NBT. I would understand the switch if other people have this problem, but this sounds like a problem that only you have.

So, anybody who's worked in any capacity in the military or goverment has definitely had to deal with classified documents and things. And hence, in these areas, "Red Zones" if you will, for security and privacy reasons, things like camera phones, GPS, internet connections and etcetera are disabled. Maybe for places such as the offices of the Heads of Staff, where inside there's a area mapped where suit sensors become *CLASSIFIED* and the only cameras are on the outside. I think this will be a reasonable and believable addition to give antags a bit more leeway.

Although it's in good faith, I think giving the moderation team more work is not advisable.

Niennab - Spriter Application
wowzewow replied to niennab's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Nienna is a cordial and polite member of the community and I no doubt think they'll be a welcome addition to the developer team. Their sprites are pretty good and the fact that they taught themselves how to use Git and make pull requests is already a major plus. Give it my +1 -
Seeing this picture, I'd even start advocating to stop Unathi from wearing shoes other than slippers altogether. Honestly, I don't have any strong opinions on way or the other. It's just we aren't committing fully. I'd like some input from the lore team whether we should double down on the Unathi/Tajaran accomodations or forgo them altogether, because right now, we're kind of at a unsatisfying midpoint where nothing is really enforced. Unfortunate fact of the matter is that being unique means having to deal with the consequences of being unique. Which means less customization options for players, and people will definitely start the lynching once the loadout gets touched.
-
I'm not removing anything, if that's what you're thinking.
-
This was supposed to be an interesting feature to make Unathi and Tajarans unique by limiting their clothing options. But at this point, it's useless because you can just go on the loadout anyway to get special gloves/shoes which immediately makes the preceding moot. So I'm gonna get rid of it. Less overhead maintenace from having approximately 3x of every single glove and shoe unique for every species. As well as saving loadout points for more important Xeno paraphernillia. (Except Vaurca, because they are special boys.) Immediate benefits : Sneakers and Hightops for Unathi and Tajarans. Any strong protesters say your objections now, or forever hold your peace.
-
honestly this boils down to tweakign the values, it makes sense for tajarans to collapse because they are coded to have high taste sensitivity and weakness to hot food
-
This is honestly a balance thing rather than a realism thing. SS13 is mainly balanced around storage, and keeping your ammo, and whatever, in check. We already have many, many, holsters and webbings which already do this exact purpose. I'm going with a hard no on this one.

So. You want to contribute sprites to Aurora. But you think you have absolutely no talent. Well, contrary to popular belief, the beautiful part of spriting is that you absolutely do not need any skill in traditional art at all to succeed it in it! It's an entirely different ballpark! I'll be going through each way to contribute, each with their own diffuculty level. 1. Porting (Beginner) At this tier, you don't even need to make a sprite, let alone *touch* an art program at all. So long as you know how to commit and push a PR, you'll do well. If you don't, there's a very useful guide here too. Although you may be asking to yourself, where should I port from? Priority on replacing sprites are as follows, and are subject to change. 1. Age (i.e. has not been modified in a long time) 2. Obscurity (Something people don't typically see.) 3. Looks (Based on discretion. Codersprites and placeholders for example.) 2. Tweaking/Modification (Novice) Now, let's say you've found a few good sprites to port, and you're just about to finish your PR until you realize you sorely lack a sprite you need. Don't fret! With a few minor modifications, it can easily be filled out. Here's some examples. Sometimes, it doesn't hurt to trawl around and repurpose some sprites, and sometimes you'll need to do it anyway to keep it consistent. But don't be afraid to experiment! 3. Spritebashing (Intermediate) Now, lets say the sprites you're porting, or making, both look out of place. What do? You make children, of course. (Wait, not like that.) You take two sprites that are along the lines of what you're aiming for, and take the best features of both. Something like your biology class. For example, for our recently updated first aid kits, I've taken the handle and overall shape of /tg/ while incorporating the design of Bay. What's come out is a completely unique Aurora sprite! It's much better and faster than starting off from scratch, and I highly recommend anyone that wants to dip their toes in spriting for real. It's recommended to do this method rather than make sprites completely from scratch. It saves a lot of time and headache, and allows you to borrow consistency. 4. Inspired Spriting (Advanced) This is definitely a step up, and a point where the training wheels *really* come off. However, techniques from spritebashing still apply here, albeit with a bit more of your own discretion. 5. From Scratch (Experienced) If I were to be honest with you, doing this is not recommended unless you *absolutely* cannot find any other reference on another codebase or on the server. However, if you really do want to do this, be sure to keep consistent with at least something else. For example, if you want to make a new, say, bag, be sure to re-use the color palette of already existing ones. Here's a good guide on spriting, which I highly recommend for further reading : https://hackmd.io/@Partheo/spriting

Please don't get mistaken. NO LOUNGES ARE GOING TO BE REMOVED. ONLY SMOKING ROOMS (and even then, there will still be some in far-off places in the ship) WILL BE REMOVED
-
There can't be both, though. The problem is that, at the end of the day, it'll mean people will just go "hey, there's a smoking room RIGHT HERE. Why the HELL will I go to the other smoking lounge?" Anyway, there definitely will be small smoking rooms - just in more secluded areas of the station where it is too inconvenient to use the new, main smoking room. Some will be removed, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
-
So, basically. I was looking at a smoker's corner and thought to myself, "Hey, smokers usually make friends with other smokers." "I also have a former smoker friend who can attest to this." I also thought, "No shit, sherlock." Anyway. I've been thinking of reducing the smoking corners and just making them into one big convenient room. Like one of those Japanese smoker rooms. Something like this, but with some proper atmospherics and stuff. Also, makes sense, since we're on a spaceship and all and can't risk blowing something up. This'll nudge people who probably will rarely interact into interesting situations and encourage roleplay. Also enforcing the "no smoking" rule to be general across the ship. It doesn't really add much to roleplay by walking around with a lit cigarette in your mouth, but it definitely will if you're chilling in a lounge with someone. (Before you yell 1984, you still can vape outside the smoking room, at your own risk and discretion.) So, if you wanna look cool and light up, be prepared to make some friends.
-
Yeah. Unique stuff will be removed from the generic snack vendors. Or else there won't really be much reason to visit the special vendors. Might have to clear up some vendor corners that already exist. An unfortunate side effect, but a sacrifice i'm willing to make (The alternative being them being shoved in a corner no one goes to, which will probably suck for everyone.) Feel like the Bar/Kitchen should be mainly human centered. We've got a lot of unutilized human lore, after all, and it's the de-facto default hang out place. I thought of putting Skrell near the pool. It seems fitting.

So I was thinking, fiddling with vending machines, makin' the TCFL MRE vending machine and thinkin' to myself, hey, see, I could put a lil' recruitment poster, maybe a lil' table here to make a sorta "shrine" of some sorts. A little bitta lore paraphernalia. A fun little hangout spot for the TCFL folk. And I thought, hey, how about making this for each species? And maybe stop typing like a bad imitation of a southern man? Anyway. Here's the idea. For example, Zo'ra soda. We could have a dedicated corner for it filled with Vaurca knick-knacks and decorations. Sort of like a hang out spot for Vaurca. Now imagine this for each species, hell, even some Human stuff too (Mars and Konyang come to mind.) So, like, Tajara could have a vending machine called the "District 6 Goods" and have like..."Canned Shlorrgo meat suspended in emulsified blubber". The thing about these machines is that there will be typically only one, too. So those of the same species can bump into one another and drive roleplay (outside of their own departments, for once). It also helps to have a centralised place to dispense lore tidbits. (e.g. the Tajaran Vending spot has some PRA posters added about their recent triumph over the NKA or something.) Hope some loredevs and whatever can contribute some ideas too.

Don't think this would be an issue, really. There's two probable outcomes whenever this happens. 1. It undergoes the Jumpsuit treatment and nothing changes. 2. It gets seperated into pants and shirt which was going to be genericized anyway as it's already re-buildble from other components.
-
This is me basically spitballing here. If a maintainer wants to throw me off a cage and into an announcer's table, so be it. Seperating the under/uniform layer into seperate shirt and pants slots. We've got a rather robust clothing system, so it should not be too much of cock and ball torture to implement it (however it still will cause sore cock and balls at the end of the day, for a lack of a better term). We've already got a million and one pants already half-added as accessories you clip on, so we could just port them over. Oh yeah, skirts too, those exist. As for shirts, same as above. Problem lies in our existing uniforms/undershirts, which I've got a rather decent solution, I suppose. You know hoodie hoods, and how they flip up to cover your head slot? It would be the same for jumpsuits. Put on the jumpsuit pants, and zip it right up, and your shirt slot is occupied. Simple. Has the added benefit of being finally able to roll up your pant legs, since there won't be 3^2 states for every single jumpsuit. Very nice. Anyway, this is looking to be a fancy dress-up game with a space station minigame, so I'd like to hear any other suggestions.

Desven's Vaurca Lore Writer App
wowzewow replied to Desven's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Desven is a reliable person and is easy to work with. I agree with making them more prominent and being more linked up with the other species in the lore. Vaurca are such a unique and interesting species and I'd hate for them to go to waste, and I think they'll be a good fit. +1 -
I'm quite surprised we haven't had a vault all this time. Not a bad idea, IMHO.
-
Yeah, definitely easily made. I'll look into this

Yo. I'm basically making this thread so people can request what kind of clothing stuff they want so they can express themselves while still remaining in uniform regs.
