  2. Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: Wowzewow Character Name(s): Wesley Miyazaki, Jeremy Hanford (formerly James Hanford), Mundy Barnes, Haleigh Albright AI Name(s): Not Applicable Discord username + tag: Wezzy, alsoandanswer#6999 Age: Prefer not to say Timezone: GMT+8 When are you on Aurora?: In the evenings, when I've got no other responsibilities. Experience How long have you played SS13?: Three to four years. How long have you played on Aurora: About three years, give or take How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: Quite a whole bunch, actually, after parsing through the code numerous times. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: No, but I can learn Have you read through the criteria thread; https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4198 - and believe that you mark off all the criteria?: Yeah Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: No Personality Why do you play SS13?: It's the interaction with people that's important. I find it immensely rewarding that there's someone else behind the screen having as much fun as I am. Either that, or some weird nostalgia of playing an MS-DOS game all over again. Why do you play on Aurora?: I find it the most mature server, I guess. My roleplay style aligns with it as well, I didn't really come in with innate knowledge of the lore, but I was able to ad-lib and stretch my creativity, which I enjoy. What do moderators do?: Make sure people play nice. And make sure people aren't being stupid. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: For the most part, facilitate roleplay and break up OOC conflict (except for roleplay conflict in acceptable boundaries) Why do you want to be a moderator?: Helping new players, actually. For such a complex game I find it actually quite fun to teach niche mechanics. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I like to give the benefit of doubt and see things from other's point of view, and I'm not afraid to ask how they feel. I also tend to avoid picking sides, and try to make informed decisions as much as possible. Having good relationships with people are important, but for me, impartiality is higher on that list. I don't like to "affiliate" with a group or another. I'm also quite confident in separating myself as a person from my roles. I'm going in understanding that moderator's a thankless job. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I say pretty well. In heated situations, I know when my emotions are getting the better of me and simply just take a breather. This includes passing responsibility onto another staff member who is more ready to handle the situation. Even if I do make mistakes, I understand that I have to sometimes take the L and apologize for my mistakes, try my best to rectify them, and not to dwell on them. Anything Else You Want to Add: (Do not put words here) Yes, some of these are the same. My views have not changed as much, so there it is. Gnome. Rat. Steamed Hams. His rifle was on stun, Cigarette Lizard. Warble warble.
  3. ...so are we going to nerf liver alcohol processing or buff alcohol power?
  4. Alcohol metabolism has been completely confubbernucked post-brainmed.
  5. I don't really like the age increase. It feels like a contrived blanket solution. Anyway, isn't this the 25th century? I argue that the improvements in technology and education effectively counteracts the increased educational load. Again, to reiterate Moondancer's point, only a general knowledge is needed. Aurora isn't about specialist treatment. Sure, I can buy the difference in species' anatomy leading to the increase in training time. But for this to make sense, wouldn't literally every other medical job get an age increase as well? For the chemists, they'd need to keep track of the different bodily chemistries and overdose thresholds, Paramedics, expected to do simple surgeries also need to keep in mind the anatomies as well. I'd rather suggest if age depended on the educational background, The well funded Eridanian Medical College would teach surgery much faster than the State-run Adhominian Military Hospital.
  6. Use this for what exactly?
  7. yes it is literally a caulk gun
  8. If cats took rad damage, it would be pretty simple to just make it so they'd glow whenever they took rad damage.
  9. Agree with Carver here. Any serious discussion realistically, would be on the forums anyway because it's an environment built to take your time and type out a well-thought out response. Discord, however, is just a typing speed competition, and whoever gets the first word is going to segway into whatever. Forums have topics and titles, with the first post being basically a coherent anchoring point. The channel you just proposed is just grabbing at straws at whatever people "feel" at the moment. And you know, feelings are terrible for coherent discourse. If people aren't discussing what you want to discuss, you're shit out of luck unless you want to derail the current conversation. Additionally : The fact we are discussing this *RIGHT HERE* throws a wrench in your entire argument. For the arguments that code_dungeon and lore_channel are existing "serious" channels is misguided. Most, if not all developer discussion occurs on the GitHub, and to a lesser extent, the developer discord. code_dungeon is just an extension of the developer discord, albeit more public. And I'd reckon the same argument for lore_channel is likely to apply as well - we have entire, separate discords for human, skrell, IPC, etc. lore. No matter how idealistic your idea of this channel's going to be, I'm pretty sure this is going to de-evolve into political-thunderdome 2, electric boogaloo. And the argument that the "mods and admins will handle it" is also idealistic, because the very same admins and mods participate in political discussion as well.
  10. can you make it clear what the steps are? like, wrench what, knife what in a nice orderly list
  11. I think it could be plausible. However, they'll be diluted versions, so only botanists can get high as a kite.

  16. I don't like the notion of having old men giving me different moods. I don't know, seems a little teetering on the edge of affecting how other people roleplay mechanically, which is a big no-no (such as the attraction mental trauma) So I'm feeling quite against it. Also, I feel like this'll encourage more "Let's gang up and kill the heads of staff" that cargo moonlights in.
  17. DEDICATED LIFEGUARD SLOT actually well just give civ department lightswitch access and we're good

  22. The 'essential' in essential oil stands for essence. Technically, chicken stock is essential too.

  23. I stand firmly that Necropolis being in Security was a mistake, and shouldn't have been in the game in the first place, i.e, Lore wasn't written for it, and they were implemented as security by accident. So technically, this is a bugfix. It's kinda stupid to rewrite the LORE because of a bug. It's like if bicaridine accidentally was turned into a dangerous neurotoxin due to a coding error, and then the lore behind bicaridine was rewritten to say it was a neurotoxin all along! Personally I think Necropolis Security aren't that good in the roleplay department anyway (with an infamous reputation of powergaming, mind you), and I think a full retcon wouldn't affect anything. We did it with the Vox, we can do it again.
  24. this seems cool at first glance, HOWEVER we've tried voices before, and they didn't work. also, this'll make our server a little more video-gamey. Which would work for a LRP/MRP server, where mechanics are more of the focal point. but this is a roleplay server, and roleplay and characters are the focal point, and it'll get pretty immersion breaking when your character lets out a DEEP BASS BLOODCURTLING SCREAM when they die. Also the fact that we have female characters too. Well, I guess it could work without the scream, but that's a stretch However, we do need a sound designer, we need sounds, so your talent's defo in demand here.
