I don't support this one for reasons already iterated by previous posts. Command impacts the round directly, bad species players can be handled with a simple ahelp. Plus it is not particularly hard for players to return and reread lore. We have an entire discord to help with that, the lore dev log, and staff too. When I returned to aurora after a year of inactivity I sat down and reviewed the lore pages of the wiki to make sure I would not be inaccurate. It took time, yes, but it was doable. I am sure that returning players won't be as annoying or difficult to handle for species whitelists than Command.

Tajaran Religious Leader to Travel Across Adhomai In a historic first for the Tajaran S’rendarr and Messa faith, religious leader Father Valyan K’rrirran has announced he will be embarking on an international trip across the planet of Adhomai. The position of Father in the S’rendarr and Messa religion is considered to be the leader of the entire religion’s priesthood, known as the Parivara (Family.). In recorded history, these men have always remained within the faith’s holy city of Sana Sahira. With his announcement, Father K’rrirran has broken a long-standing tradition for his position. A route has already been planned for the Father to travel along and the details of which will be sent to all three governments on Adhomai. Observers and analysts note that due to the escalating tensions between all three border crossings may be impossible. Other issues raised concern the Father’s safety during his journey. Much of Adhomai’s provinces, particularly in the Democratic People’s Republic of Adhomai, face severe crime issues and reports of heavy banditry. It is expected that the Parivara will have to negotiate for guards from the armies or private entities on Adhomai to ensure the safety of Father K’rrirran and his attendants. The announcement’s timing occurs exactly with the beginning of the Coming of Dawn religious holiday. A massive ceremony of hymns to commemorate the day was held in Sana Sahira shortly after Father Valyan K’rrirran’s announcement.

That sounds like a conversation for another day IMO. But, with this system, you could argue that people would only need to have full understanding of TCB minimum to work and the crew can use others to function as translators if needed. And as Offroad99 points out, any option to remove that should seriously come with a notification regarding why TCB is used. It'd be up to the player (For now.) to determine if it's right for their character to understand any part of the language or not. For instance, Europa has a skrell population living on it but not all people would probably interact with them enough to understand some of nral'malic. However if your character's backstory involves them being on a ship with skrell they got along with, you could justify them having a partial understanding of nral'malic fine. If possible though, it would probably be a smart idea to have some sort of tooltip or small window that explains how someone might know this language like how selecting citizenship will tell you about the nation you selected.
-
Heavy agree. Hivenet requires augmentation exclusive to only Vaurcae for it to work and I severely doubt any organic ear could interpret EAL or binary properly. It would make zero sense for those languages to be available as any of the proposed 3 options for other species.
-
This would likely be up to the individual devs to determine what species could understand their language partially or fully. I could see full understanding options available for humans for languages like sinta'unathi, nral'malic, siik'mas, at higher prices than human languages if the devs sign off on it.
-
Shouldn't be changed at all. TCB should remain in as the default you cannot de-select and has full understanding. You need it to be employed on the station currently and I really don't think it makes gameplay or in universe sense to allow people to not speak it or understand it.
-
So, our language system's quite old. While there has been more slots added for different species and some new languages put in over the years, it's still very much a all or nothing system. You either are fluent in a language and know it extremely well or you know fuck all about it. There's certain exceptions to this like Tajara languages having partial understanding. What do I suggest? Swap out the slot system for a point system. Depending on your species you get more points to represent how some species can know more languages. Depending on your species you can get languages for free. Then, you have the option of 3 choices for how you would spend your points per language. Partial understanding, full understanding, speaking. Here's some examples. Feng is a human with sol citizenship. Because he has sol citizenship set, he gets SolCom for free. Now he has 6 points. Feng's backstory has him working in eridani for a time, so he takes full understanding of tradeband for 2 points. He can't speak tradeband, but he understands it. Yuiakx is a unathi who fled the wasteland. She has 6 points. She knows how to speak Azizba for 1 point, speaking is cheap due to being a unathi. Her only option for sinta'unathi is full understanding or speaking because Azizba already partially understands sinta'unathi. But because she fled Moghes and didn't spend much time in Izweski lands, she doesn't need to spend those points. When she left she did so on a trading vessel who operated in the frontier. She picked up partial understanding of Freespeak, which costs 1 point. So Yuiakx somewhat understands Sinta'unathi and Freespeak while speaking Azizba fine. Obviously this system would need a lot of work if implemented. Prices need to be figured out per species, options for each species need to be re-examined, partial understanding that already exists might have to be changed, and if citizenship and species giving discounts or free language options is allowed that'll add onto the complications. This is also to say nothing of possible abuse of this system. However I genuinely think that having a point based system will be much better in the long run for people wanting to use languages to show off their character's backstory while also resolving any possible issues about who can take what language lore-wise.

Marlon Phoenix' Unathi Lore Deputy Application
canon35 replied to Marlon P.'s topic in Developer Applications Archives
Breacher suits being the end-all be-all upon the Unathi battlefield only to be bested by 3 aut'akh with a welder, the fact that Unathi had their own rifles and yet charged a flaming K'lax Za'Viax into melee, the introduction of the Izweski as having had airships for centuries despite it being stated that the Traditionalists were the ones to begin using air power, not the Hegemony. It ties into a greater issue that Unathi technology and tactics shifted and changed too much depending on what the article or lore piece was going for instead of just remaining on some written level of consistency and internal logic. One moment the Hegemony was using modern weaponry given to them to fight, the next they were fighting with spears and travelling to places on foot. Dominian Unathi had to be rewritten in order for them to fit into Dominia and Unathi lore without causing too much friction and to actually try to tie them into the struggles on Moghes. The Grim Compact for months was a topic of contention as writers had to re-examine it to figure out what to even do with that area of unathi lore. Honor had to be written down in full and developed for players to be able to fully understand the topic and how it relates into Unathi society, making it easier to be used ICly and showing that it extends past nobility/warriors. The Izweski Hegemony was given its own page so that its information wasn't so scattered and didn't take up a significant portion of the species' page. It also had to be changed to better accommodate how figures like Not'zar were able to work against their own vassals despite it supposedly be a feudal system and to give women more roles to play in the Hegemony. Many of these were problems that cropped up during your tenure that went unaddressed for years or simply left alone after their introduction besides a few small changes that were demanded or heavily needed. When you left and the writers changed, they finally addressed them and began to rework these writings so that Unathi lore wasn't dragged down by it. No. Your previous behaviors, as outlined by other posters, towards members of the community and how you acted when you were in the lore position leads me to believe the same problems will likely just crop up again even after you're given the position. You argue against retcons that are needed like the Biesel and Sol parties being changed and continue to justify older lore that were legitimate problem spots like ATLAS. -
Marlon Phoenix' Unathi Lore Deputy Application
canon35 replied to Marlon P.'s topic in Developer Applications Archives
I do not wish to see you back on the Unathi Team. While you were instrumental in the early stages of lore and did legitimately great things with Unathi, your last years on the team have made me incredibly wary towards the idea of you coming back even in a lore deputy position. Your writing resembled just hopping on one idea to the next with no care given to actually connect them or return to these lore pieces later, leading to the teams after your departure to pick up the pieces. At the same time you also signed off on several pieces of lore that went heavily against your own pre-established writing. IE Unathi suddenly having more colonies than just their home system's, a constant inconsistency on what technology Unathi even use militarily, and the most glaring issue: The original iteration of Aut'akh. Yes, your style is different from other teams as it resembles a soap opera or space drama and that's lead to some great moments and writing for Unathi. But, much of what you wrote before doesn't fly in our setting anymore as it tries to be more consistent in theming and other aspects. This is especially true for the other species lore you wrote before, but even with Unathi there's been a need for rewrites and retcons of your work in order to make it all actually fit together. -
I'd be up for a change like this. It strikes me as meme-tier that flesh and bone species can just pull a superhero stunt and snap metal handcuffs like they're nothing. Limiting organics at the very least to having to do the usual 2 minute cuff-picking would be preferable.

Do you have any ways in mind for antags to be able to change their skills? IE changing out your skills on spawn as a ninja/merc, or paying for something that gives you a skill with telecrystals.
-
As much as I've enjoyed RANDOM AND WHACKY GOLEM ADVENTURES before I have to agree that the event-spawn should be removed. Golems do little to really contribute and are just a LRP tool. Xenobiology and antag roles having them is fine, but the random event spawn needs to go. Whatever lore we do have on golems is so irrelevant that no one really mentions it in-game or finds it on the wiki, and it hardly factors into their in-game play at all. We don't really have a lot to lose from cutting them out. If people enjoy whacky golem hijinks so much, that energy can be better spent on making a jokester character who actually has character.

They exist to play into new themes with Zeng-Hu which exist as a draw to the corporation. Removing them is counter-productive to that. I'd prefer to see more regular generic augments added or other corp-specific ones (Within reason.) as opposed to just making all the Zeng-hu augments generic.

Democratic Revolution and Liberation Day Celebrations Held across Adhomai and Beyond! The anniversary of the declaration of the Democratic People’s Republic of Adhomai has finally reached its fourth year. While it has been a short time in our people’s history, the gears of revolution turn fast, and the toil of the common Tajara has accomplished much under our government and army. In just a year and a half of peace, we have sewn our ideology of freedom for the Tajara peoples across the stars to Gakal’zaal and continue to provide Tajara abroad with assistance for their own struggles. Refugee families, clergymen, workers, soldiers, politicians and commanders have all gathered to celebrate this auspicious day in their own ceremonies. Shastar City has rung in the holiday in the typical fashion: With fireworks and fire bombs alike. Pro-military government riots began at approximately 8:56 AM local time with a crowd setting fire to several warehouses before beginning a march west through the city. Shouted slogans of the ALA preceded the wave of violence that these rioters brought to the boroughs of Shastar City. Police response was heavy to try and contain the riots, but several groups of counter-protestors were assaulted and battered before law enforcement could assist. In spite of these attacks President Harrlala and her cabinet took to the Heroes of Gakal’zaal square for her address. The freshly-built monument resembled more so an army camp than a park. Riot squads and barricades were put in to prevent any clashes from protestors. In attendance were hundreds of members of the Free Assembly and invited citizens. Taking the stage and standing between two massive banners of our nation and before a impressive statue of a liberator, the President opened the ceremony with a speech: Following her address the President began to hand medals to civilian heroes from the Republic. Notable recipients of the Adhomai Hero of the Liberation Medal this year include documentary filmmaker Ianna Rarrr-mak and anti-child homelessness philanthropist Timak Ojakrr. At the ceremony’s end, the President entered a motorcade bound for the city railyard. There she joined with Supreme Commander Nated to attend a gala organized by Crevan mayor Mazula Azaula in a luxury train. Invitations to this gala were also sent to the Rrhaza-Akhran who opted to instead attend their local festivities for this year. Northern Ras’nrr’s Rrhaza-Akhran, Ahem Kah’nirir, has once again denied any requests to hold celebrations in his administered lands. Citing that the holiday was a distraction from reconstruction efforts, the commander ordered his troops to stop any celebrations from taking place for the day. Ahem’s ongoing blockage of routes to the protected Rhazkjara Valley has also dampened spirits among the workers and resettlers there. Despite that, small feasts were held and dedicated to Commander Hro’rammhad for his assistance there. The isle of Amohda has for the second time this year been awash in cultural fervor. Swordsman lodges held massive tournaments for the day with local army officers both officiating and participating. The regional capital was filled with cheering crowds as Rrhaza-Akhran Rahman Hadjuk directed a vast military parade in the streets of the city. Displayed in it was a great number of captured royalists and hadiists found on the island. These prisoners were pelted with stones and trash as they were forcefully marched in the parade. Rahman later delivered a two hour long speech speaking on his wishes to grant his children a unified Amohda and discussing the significance of the Amohdan heritage. He had also taken the time to decry the civilian government and President Harrlala for ordering the army to stand down during the Chaniska border conflict. Southern Harr’masir’s people had a day filled with festivals and fairs. Celebrations organized by Rrhaza-Akran Muhr’fal’s administration took place to commemorate the victories of the Second Revolution. All denizens of the continent were free to enjoy the festivities of drinking and shooting competitions, concerts, and zhsfram races. Rrhaza-Akran Muhr’fal himself participated in some events in Dolor, at one point wowing an entire crowd of on-lookers as he fired precise shots into distant targets with a repeater rifle. Following that the Rrhaza-Akran retired to a nearby lake to fish with his extended family. Incidents of banditry were expectedly low this day. Local authorities say this is likely because of criminals choosing to celebrate the occasion with their families rather than continue their raids. Abroad, Tajara commemorated this day with the same patriotism as any citizen on Adhomai. The planet of Gakal’zaal had smaller personal celebrations in their homes. Parties gathered to drink, dance, and listen to once-banned music from home. The military on Gakal’zaal were unable to participate in the day however due to the continued raids of the Yizarus Brigade on the planet. Spirits were also high among the Tajara of Biesel. At the “Little Adhomai” district of Mendell City, local community leaders organized their yearly party at a local plaza. Among the numerous events held there was also an impromptu concert by the band “Bloodstorm”, who reportedly showed up uninvited by organizers and took a stage meant for a rival DJ. Supreme Commander Nated himself met with researchers at the Shastar Technical University to congratulate them on advancements in tank technology. Before the Supreme Commander departed to join President Harrlala at the Shastar City railyard, he spoke with the press gathered at the university’s campus.

Rrhaza-Akhran Rahman Hadjuk Ordered to Stand Down By Supreme Commander Nated, Border Conflict Cools The Amohda border stand-off has come to a halt as Supreme Commander Nated, along with President Harrlala, have issued a joint statement to Rrhaza-Akhran Hadjuk to de-escalate the situation and pull his army troops back. The statement is as follows: Rrhaza-Akhran Muhr’fal has declared that while he continues to assist in safeguarding the DPRA, the orders of the Supreme Commander are absolute. Troop transports from Southern Harr’masir have stopped and soldiers that were to be sent to assist in any defensive measures have been returned to their original posts on the continent. No word has been given from Commander Hotak, who was also requested to assist with the border situation. Rrhaza-Akhran Hadjuk is reportedly withdrawn from the public eye for the time being. Officers close to him have stated that the news has put Rhaza-Akhran Hadjuk into a deep fury. This sentiment has also been shared by the civilian population of not just Amohda, but across the nation. Massive protests have broken out in the regional capital of Amohda over the de-escalation order. Local police and military have joined in as well, and unconfirmed reports have come of suspected civilian government supporters being arrested or assaulted. Districts in Shastar city are reporting violent protests in the capital spearheaded by the Followers of Nated and the Free Tajaran People’s Party. Many of these protestors have been shouting slogans decrying the President and their rivals in the assembly, claiming them to be weak and influencing Supreme Commander Nated’s vision of Adhomai. The government has already called in additional guards to protect the President and other politicians for the time being.

Adhomai Liberation Army Continues Build Up, Massive Air fleet Assembled at Chaniska 17.05.2463 Chaniska has turned into a hub of military activity as the Republican Army, Navy, and People’s Air Force have gathered to counter possible Adhomai Liberation Army offenses. Across the border, terrorist leader and warlord Rahman Hadjuk is amassing an invasion force to seize Chaniska from our Republic. Clearly offended by his failed plan to devastate the city, Hadjuk has rapidly deployed more troops to the border in a display of unwarranted aggression. The warlord has even claimed that the ALA cells within the city are royalist forces, ignoring evidence put forth by the People’s Strategic Intelligence Service proving otherwise. Headmaster Tyr’adrr has remained in the city to coordinate probes to find any remaining terrorist holdouts. Several generals from the Ministry of Defence are expected to arrive with detachments of the armored corps and Division Experimental Exosuit to assist with the border defence. However, the decisive factor for any upcoming battle may be the warplanes of the PAF. The aerial fleet at Chaniska’s strip is one of the largest assembled in the history of the air force. Hundreds of fighters and bombers have been gathered on the crowded strip, flying daring drills in the airspace of the contested land. While this is a certain morale booster for our troops on the ground, one could only imagine the fear in the hearts of the DPRA terrorists as they see the aerial might of the Republic. The Adhomai Liberation Army may be a challenge on the land, but the seas and skies are firmly in the control of our brave military. The Chaniska lockdown has been extended indefinitely. Only cleared military personnel are allowed to depart or arrive at the port. The Resettlement program is still accepting applications, which will be continued following a de-escalation or victory at Chaniska.

Border Tensions Escalate in Amohda In the aftermath of a supposed ALA plot to devastate the Republican-occupied city of Chaniska, the PRA-DPRA border of the isle has seen a larger presence of Republican troops, causing concern for locals. The Rrhaza-Akhran Rahman Hadjuk has declared his intentions in a public radio address to move more of his forces towards the area. The Rrhaza-Akhran also stated his suspicions on there being ALA cells within the city still, citing that the Liberation Army had no knowledge of this. In his address, he says: Several detachments of toxin troopers are expected to arrive at the border in a few days along with a small armor division. Numerous engineers on the isle are being called on to begin constructing further fortifications there. Rrhaza-Akhran Hadjuk has also put forward requests to Supreme Commander Nated, Commander Hotak, and Rrhaza-Akhran Muhr’fal for additional troops and support. The former Rrhaza-Akhran of Amohda and wanted criminal Yaropolk Yazar remains at large on the isle; however, the administration of Rrhaza’Akhran Hadjuk now have reasonable cause to believe that he may be hiding in the PRA-controlled region. Reporters on the ground at Amohda say that Al'mariist rallies have gripped the towns and cities. Chants supporting a unified Amohda and the liberation of Chaniska have filled the squares and parks. Recruitment drives have already seen an increase in sign-ups as men and women volunteer to join the ranks. Updates continues as the situation develops.

Terror Attack Foiled by PSIS In Chaniska! Headmaster Vows Continued Protection 07.05.2463 Shots rang out in Chaniska today as a vast terrorist underground has been rooted out by the efforts of the People’s Strategic Investigative Service. Numerous Adhomai Liberation Army terrorist cells were destroyed in a mass raid spearheaded by Headmaster Tyr’adrr. Reports have indicated minimal casualties for the PSIS and assisting Republican Army components. The current number of taken ALA captives is stated to be 512, who is being interrogated and sentenced, with 54 terrorist casualties. Several illegal arms, firebombs, and other explosive devices were also seized alongside a reported large amount of Adhomai Liberation Army paraphernalia. The People’s Strategic Investigative Service stated in their report that the cells were likely planning a mass terror attack to destroy Chaniska’s production centres and factories. The city will remain under lockdown for a period of seven days until the situation is fully investigated. Until then, Chaniska citizens are urged to remain in their homes and travel to or from the isle needs federal level clearance. Full compliance with authorities is expected and recommended. The People’s Strategic Investigative Service is set to increase its numbers at Chaniska following the averted disaster. A full statement by Headmaster Tyr’adrr has been released announcing the expansion of the Chaniska office: Immigration will continue following the lockdown. Tens of thousands of homes are still unclaimed and available for settlement. President Hadii has given a 10% increase to the stipend for those who apply after today.

President Hadii Announces New Benefits for Displaced Citizens! 23.04.2463 In a morning radio address today, President Hadii has announced a new monetary fund to assist the displaced and poor citizens of our Republic. In the aftermath of the signed armistice and the Tajaran Citizenship Act, many of our fellow citizens were forced to leave their homes and find a new one within Ras’nrr. The costs of travel coupled with several families abandoning their lands, money, and other possessions have contributed to overcrowding in the free housing of our cities. The new “Chaniska Resettlement and Development” program solves this problem. Any citizens who live below a certain income and are willing to move their families will be given free passage to Chaniska along with a free single-family residence. An additional stipend will also be given for six months following the arrival of any migrants to the city. Chaniska’s current status has made it the perfect choice for this program. The city is well developed and only lacking in population. During the war, its disloyal Amohdan population abandoned Chaniska in order to join the rebel armies in the uncontrolled areas of Amohda. However, the rebels were unable to break the defensive lines set up there by the Republican Army during the war. As such, damage is minimal in the city compared to the less fortunate city of Amohda. There are already several factories, mines, and fisheries with vacant positions that can be taken up by loyal citizens. Several construction projects are planned for further expansion and modernization. Economists within the Ministry of Finance have also released a follow-up statement to President Hadii’s announcement agreeing with the plan and its implementation. President Hadii has also made sure to address any concerns regarding safety on the isle. Beyond the border continues a conflict involving the terrorist warlord Rahman Hadjuk’s army contending with the supporters of royalist thug Yaropolk Yazar, whose whereabouts are unknown. The Ministry of Defence is expected to double the deployment of troops along the border on Amohda and expand the airforce present at Chaniska’s air strip. Commanders in the army have urged the public that there is little to worry about, however, given that the DPRA’s tactical and technological inferiority makes the chances of any combat reaching the city itself nil. Naval officers have also established a stronger presence in the waters around the port, as replenishing the dockyards of Chaniska is of utmost importance for rebuilding the navy. The application process can be done at any local government office, online, and in the embassies within the Republic of Biesel. Citizens are expected to provide their financial information, valid government IDs, and undergo an interview before their application can be processed.

I'm in support of this. The restriction feels arbitrary (Skrell also have different hands but seemingly don't require unique gloves), and a one size fits all gets rid of the issues of unathi or tajara antags not being able to use whatever insulateds they can find for free.

32st Victory Day Celebrated Across The Republic! 04.03.2463 Today marks 32 years since the establishment of the People’s Republic of Adhomai and the Tajara people’s victory over the nobility. In spite of previous troubles over the past years, excitement for celebrating our republic and collective efforts underneath the Party remain high. Cities across the People’s Republic report record high numbers of attendance as ceremonies go underway. Numerous art galleries and amusement parks reported peak attendance, and local breweries have boosted their sales for the year. Before the unfinished Palace of the Free Tajara, President Hadii began his traditional address in the capital’s parade square with several party members alongside him. Following a rousing ovation for the President, Minister of Defense Irbaykhan Mirarkiizar took to the podium to deliver a short speech. Intense cheers of support for the Hro’zamal Pioneer Guard and Grand People’s Army filled the square. Afterwards, Zhuldyz Hadii began her speech to preface the scheduled military parade. Shortly after Minister Zhuldyz Hadii’s speech, the Grand People’s Army parade began in Nal’tor. The procession started with youth brigades flown in from across Adhomai along with a Hro’zamal youth brigade at their forefront. Following those were the newer additions. The freshly dubbed “Experimental Exosuit'' division or Division “EE” were given major attention by onlookers and media during the parade, especially when excited shouts revealed that Chief Naval Commander Qarrarhaz and Kosmostrelki from the victorious Minharrzka were piloting them. A column of tanks trailed behind, each one carrying heroes of the Republic’s armed forces upon them. In the skies, the People’s Air Force sounded a thundering salute as they soared above onlookers. After the parade’s end, our reporter was able to gather a statement from Commander Qarrarhaz regarding the exosuits. We here at the Adhomai Chronicle wish everyone a joyous Victory Day, from Adhomai to our comrades in Hro’zamal and Tau Ceti.

I'm in support of this. I'm going to repeat previous points here, but the NT Relay Discord has been used for the Bad Moon events and arc developments, along with integration with the sadly cancelled Diona event arc. Despite not being a official server, it's still had an impact on how our lore events go and their impact on not just characters, but future canon as well. It's an incredibly good tool for lore devs to use to help drive interest in events and thus the lore. We should integrate it, and we already have had several adminstaff members say their support in helping moderate or run it as well. I can't see anything but benefits from integrating the server into Aurora's structure fully.
