  1. Heya. I thought about making a new community pitch in project. Everyone give some cool spell ideas, maybe someone wants to code them, maybe some of them will be awesome enough for their own spell book. Be creative ? Familiar Soul: Can controle other people for a short duration to open doors, pretty much how borer does now, you enter a body for a minute and have like a two to three minute cooldown. On it. Maybe work like the imaginary friend in between. It's a spirit bound to the wiz. Recall. Allows you to walk into the medbay when the doors are open, runs off a timer, if it's over you get zoomed back to the starting point. A bit like Tracer from Overwatch. Could make for some hilarious memes, sneaky gimmiks, spoopy stuff, you name it. You shall not pass. Same as open doors, just the other way around. Bend the airlocks to your will, bolting all around you and giving it a 30 second timer before the doors accept their original master (AI, Borgs) again. A spell to slow down those pesky followers, isolate someone for RP, just have a door between you and that trigger happy officer. Maybe make them auto unbolt after a minute or two, since lowpop sometimes does not have AI and it would be a pain for engineering. Reshape. Either like a chameleon projector, letting you hide as mundane objects, or maybe change objects around you. Is that a chair or a supermatter in the brig lobby? Only the wizard knows. Maybe you could run into maint and hide as a rat for a duration, fun stuff. Fire Arrow. A little fireball, does not explode, can be caught if you are quick, but it might just burn your hand because it's hot hot hot. Higher levels making it a shotgun like multi arrow? Frostwall. Freezes a tile in front of you, making it a barrier for balistics while the tiles around it become really slippery. It's ice after all. Higher levels summon more walls around you or increase the freeze effect range. Phase. A bit like the small teleport right now, except you just become a bit transparent and can phase through walls and doors. Bullets and melee weapons might phase through you, maybe lasers do not? Shoot some cool stuff. This community has creative heads, I am sure you folks come up with better ideas.
  2. He attack, he smack, but most importantly, he snack.
  3. https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/8153 Does what it says, I was not sure about giving the HoP a bigger gun, but Ian is a trusted member of this community and has only a small amount of notes about valid hunting antags (and only when they had food, so that's okay). As always, please leave some feedback. I hope this makes it, so we can finally accept Ian as the captain instead of those fake ones.
  4. Please provide round IDs, screenshots or other evidence. I will leave this open for 24 hours to give you a chance to provide such.
  5. One of the players I never had issues with, knows a lot of the mechanics, does great RP and has contributed to the server in different ways. Enjoyed them for a year now, ever since I started out. Nothing speaking against them in command. Has my full support.
  6. BYOND Key: Cnaym Character Names: Most known currently: Ansiba Seki (Detective), Najila Faj'iq (Roboticist), Voices of Reason (Lab Assistant), Alecto (Security Officer), Judi-329 (Consular), Sophie Cerys (Engineer) Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character: RGB 111, 21, 0 Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Been playing some "background" characters recently, mainly focused on doing their job and focusing on the stations well being. The idea to play a bound worker is basicly dipping my feet into a new whitelist in hopes of spreading their lore a bit and by extension experience the small differences between someone bound by laws like the stationbounds, by programming like the IPCs and someone who through their creation process and upbringing is simply content with their given task. I currently do not enjoy the more goofy vaurca and have no big interest to create an unbound, but that might change depending on the rest of the playerbase I suppose. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The speech pattern, the hivenet, the mechanics. The relations between the different hives, even queens. The difference in how they perceive and interact with the world around them, the fact that bound in their case really means bound, the scavenge hunt for K'ois due to lack of credits, the natural mistrust coming from other species, their creepy forms, their different equipment functions like the internals situation, their strict specialization and lack of inter department knowledge, their hard counter to the diona mentality by disliking light... there is a ton that makes them really alien and hard to RP as. Character Name: Ka'Viax'Amur Zo'ra Please provide a short backstory for this character Amur was born in 2459 as part of the Ta'Akaix'Athvur'zekt'azi Zo'ra brood. It's batch was to fulfill a simple task for the new goddess of offering simple services to the wide public at low prices. They where only trained in basic tasks required by their new environment, like agriculture or freight transport. Amur himself was designed to clean and navigate the different workplaces of Phoenixport without even bumping into one of the other species. A show of not only how efficient, but also easy to handle her bounds are even to alien species. Over time Amur became accepted in Phoenixport, not seen as a person, but rather as a mop on legs, some humans working in places that Amur cleaned have taken up the fun activity of placing a sticker on it's clothes, or putting a cap on it's head. Those items and clothing were always returned the next day, cleaned and in a bag. Working almost without a need for rest, never complaining, never questioning orders or speaking about it's work, Amur was a perfect candidate to be send as a Janitor to a NT facility like the Aurora. Amur continues it's work, efficiently, calm, sometimes even described as happily by others only having his purpose and queen in mind. What do you like about this character? It's by all intends and purposes a stationbound without a lawset. The idea is to provide another background character and having the playerbase decide how they receive and treat him. Amur is a simple minded creature, but that does not make him stupid. He will simply focus on his task at hand, only straying from his path when ordered by either command or one of the unbound vaurca. My hope is to provide a bit more of insight into the fate of the bound, their daily routines and how they handle situations that would require a lot of thinking, which they by definition are not able to perform. That does not mean Amur will be a suicidal bucketbot, but rather a on demand cleaning service showing how a designed worker would fit into an open minded and crazy workplace as the Aurora. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'd place myself up there with the pros by now. Staying in characters, staying calm, just enjoying the game. That's what matters most to me. Creating extensive records and backstories for the crew to figure out, giving lengthy exploitable information and so on. My characters are known for being rather calm and having a private life instead of blurping out everything on their first shift. LooC and OOC are for the memes. Notes: Ask away, give feedback or suggestions. We are all here to have fun and improve. I hope I express that throughout my interactions.
  7. Yus. My two cents: Grabbing someone with a spear? Bad idea. Having to struggle them to make them drop it? Good idea. Maybe make it a disarm, click on them, which locks them in for a stamina based struggle, which can be broken up by anyone else deciding to go in. Grabbing someone with an esword from the front should auto cut off a hand tbh. Disarm a ninja is currently the best meme around, since tajara and unathi have a solid shove that just wrecks their entire strategy if used correctly. Which brings me to the next issue with grabs and disarms, IPCs. No clue how to implement stamina into them. They seem to drain energy on disarm spam currently, maybe that could be used to show how hard melee combat is for a shell for example. The simplest solution to the issue would be another grab step, or a longer windup until grabs are reinforced. But that would be the famous duct tape over the entire grab spam issue I think. Maybe making grabs fail if the other party is also on grab, or disarm intend.
  8. That is why we are talking over this. We could go stun revolver instead. The sprite is amazing, it is none lethal and fun for everyone ?
  9. I did. The small sidearms are fun to use and harmless as fuck. A tool for RP, a cheap alternative to a 12 TC gun to take someone hostage and so on and so forth. I also asked for feedback. The points Brayce raised are pretty good, let's see what the rest has to add.
  10. There is no reason to bend character and feel forced to use them. They are simply suggested as an option. You can hand them off to an officer during lowpop for example, maybe give it an engineer going out to repair while carps are around and such. I can see the issue with the laser pistol though, since it has been buffed recently. The .45 plus a single rubber magazine would be an option imho. Simple enough as a defensive tool and can be repurposed by antags to be dangerous. I'll obviously wait for more feedback, thank you two for the posts. ?
  11. https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/8215 Does what it says. Adds a .45 flasher pistol and a laser pistol to the CMO, CE and RD locker. Those are either light tools of self defense or easy grabs for antags without having to storm the bridge or armory. The goal is to have more none lethal sidearms around. For antags and command members. You might not kill anyone with a laser pistol, but some carp or a hostage situation are now within your reach. Not the biggest balancing change I suppose, but a feedback thread was requested. Discuss
  12. So keeping the price of phoron higher than the rest would focus on that purpose even further? I am thinking about having it not nerfed as much to display that side of the lore, but keeping the rest low to show how worthless even plasteel has become.
  13. Do they though? For cleaning? Because I always see those heroic janitors with insulated gloves and such. Dunno, I always request a guest pass, or go to the HoPs for my maint access. Some give it, some don't, some get ganked in maint for this 100% agree. For the commissary, not to get lost in the tunnels below the engine. Did that a lot as cargo tech. Meeting random people in maint always makes for good RP and creepy situations. And the main reason why I am on the side of giving everyone access. It's hilarious and fair, does not take anything away from antags. Here comes the biggest thonker as HoS player. I cannot access the Smes rooms. Those are antag bunkers for whatever hilarious reasons. Like a 100% secure area for antags only. No clue why that is a thing, seems really off. Ninjas can always teleport into those and it's just astonishing. Same goes for maintenance access removal. It does not allow you to enter any department doors, so it is of little use at best for my valid hunting thirst.
  14. Oh! A hot topic huehuehue. I was thinking to go a lot different with a new layout, but yeah this one is nice. I used it a lot and always enjoyed it. I'd go for the removal of the carpet tiles because they are broken. Rearranging the bookshelves is easy and quick to do for everyone tbh. Might post a picture of another settup, but yeah this small adjustment would make it a lot more inviting already, which has always been an issue of the library imho.
  15. Whenever I see a shitty borg or AI I want to ban them for ignoring the massive block of text at roundstart telling them all their laws. The introduction to read our rules before joining and years of small work on the forums, discords and the game itself to make it enjoyable. Every time I see a security officer running at four mercs with a hostage having his fucking taser drawn I just want to wind and remove them for not giving a single fuck about HRP. I still act in good faith and try to teach them the error of their ways. I still hope that we can find new players who fit and improve the server. I am acting in good faith. As a player I hate it, as a staff member I deal with it, as a person I question mankind as a concept ^^ To the topic at hand. This is why lowpop usually runs with extendo or some vamp / taitor that does nothing for two hours except a small poisoning or such. It's a calmer time of the day, but it's a better time for RP. I will enable some antag types like taitor and vamp just to have the roundtype not result in another malf banned. We had to perma three AI players yesterday alone, during lowpop, not even antag, that's how bad the filtering process is. What you get for highpop are people like @Jupiter Storm then, who everyone can salt against ?
  16. The last bit is just wrong. As established. Antag borgs can completely disable the flashers already. They have a button for that.
  17. This would be an interesting thing for the lore team, we have four mining slots, could make a new alt title for prospectors or somesuch, maybe as NT independent who get bonuses depending on their yields (at least lore wise, ingame it should be the number on the atm or just roleplayed out).
  18. This thread was not made by you. It would influence a ton of gamemodes. It would only help the stationbounds die quicker. Missfire, other antags, Ion laws and so on. There are two flasher devices for the entire none security crew. They are restricted to engineering and robotics. Someone picks it up at roundstart: Ahelp Someone runs around trying to flash and destroy the borg instead of getting away from it: Ahelp Making EMP grenades as cargo tech? Ahelp Making EMP grenades as chemist? Why not? Not like they would run around trying to catch a borg, right? If they do: Ahelp https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/7093 The antag borgs got recently buffed by this. They are no longer afflicted by flashes anyway. Toogle it on, see crew and sec fail, slice them in the leg once or twice, laugh at them crawling towards medical. To come back to this and trying to word it without a personal attack against you or the thread creator. If your gimmik is "I am broken and will hurt you!" without much RP provided or heck attacking a command member without knowing the basics of antag borgs, then the flash is for you. It will force them to try and repair you because you are expensive and easy to repair. Giving you RP instead of an early dead chat. If your gimmik as normal borg is "I am CoolBot McCurse and will call the RD a cunt today" then the flasher is also for you. Sorry but failing to roleplay a borg will always lead to this or destruction. Lowpop even wipes AIs on extendo if they cannot behave. On the other spectrum anatag borgs have found many hilarious ways to get arround their restrictions or even use the perceived weakness as a trap to lure in the lonely RD with a false sense of safety. There is a lot of git gut mentality from my side, but making an informed decision requires to a lot of information into account, not only personal experience. Source: I have played for a year now, so I may not know anything about the game. I also always ask stupid questions. Oh and I play the stupid borg who wiped out entire crews, while flying under a fake Ion law. I've overwritten the internal self destruct as none antag more times than I can count, I managed to get borgs removed from expeditions, which does not work if you know how to overwrite the safety and so on. Overall I am having a good time with borgs as it is, maybe those more experienced with playing them can post here.
  19. As an antag you should engage crew through RP and after escalation combat. Even a chase without any use of force can be fun and involve more than the officers. The number of rechargers around the station is really high and you can easily lock yourself in or even hide inside a charger. I have seen borgs change their name to that of an IPC and talking to security out of a charger which was hilarious robust through an RP method. Cyborg. Antag or none. Requires a ton of game knowledge. You should be able to fill any missing slot on the manifest and if you antag be familiar enough with whatever you have right now to join combat. To the robustness of the modules itself: Engineering and Construction have the strongest stun weapon and can wall of areas completly, on top of being able to bolt doors and such. Construction is also able to vent any area they are in within seconds which makes them one of the most lethal modules. Mining module is currently the strongest range and EVA module. You have pretty much freedom of movement and are able to breach any wall quickly with your drill, giving your KA a massive damage buff and easily letting you take out all of security before they even get their internals on. Even if you only use it to escape or bolt someone into a breached room, this is again much stronger than any normal crewmember. Science module: You get the ability to teleport yourself and crew to predesigned areas, randomly into the vault, or use the teleporter to completly disable ranged weapons. Ion and bullets will simply teleport into nearby walls or space. You also get a strong self repair and the ability to upgrade yourself which makes it imho the most dangerous solo antag on station next to ninjas. Heck you can even disable your own explosive device and take the AI core onto the expedition site as a hostage for shit and giggles. Janitorial: Lube. Lube. Lube. You can slip people out of airlock, nobody will be able to follow you at sprint speed. This one combined with a VTec is complete aids to fight against. Service: Strong melee, poison and chemistry. It can enter any place without even raising an eyebrow by offering coffee. Robustness through RP is where it's at. Medical modules: Polyacid spray. Outright the strongest weapon against everything except a RIG. It can one shot EVA Helmets, again making it almost impossible to beat as unprepared crewmember. Clerical: Fake IDs. No honestly, help out others asking for access. Let security know that someone stole the spare and giggle as they follow the HuD to the poor botanist with a captain level ID. The general ability of all modules to become almost 100% Ion protected, flash protected, hide all tools and maybe some external items inside of them, all access at roundstart and the ability to control airlocks, air alarms, fire alarms and such remotely makes it outright one of the strongest antag classes in the right hands. If you ever went up against Pennant, Kaiser or Omega you will know exactly what I mean. The level of bullshit a good borg pulls of is almost impossible for the crew to deal with. Funny enough the removal or change of flashers would change none of that. It would only give security an excuse to destroy none antag borgs or those new to antaging as them.
  20. The incentive to bring and use flashes is there. Security has a big pool of them, it enables crew to run away instead of getting chopped to pieces and allows you to safely pull it somewhere. Yes it may burn out, but the stun is long enough that you can conserve it and call for help. Optimale way is a roboticist helping ISD to get it flashed then removing the power cell, draging it to robotics for repairs. It is also currently the only way of one borg disabling another one. Either antag or not. Heck, some borgs fake getting flash stunned to get repairs or show that they are not malfunctioning. It is overall a tool that has promoted RP, instead of ranged combat with the Ion. Would be a shame to see that lost. About the efficency of being blinded instead of stunned. You can still run, the AI can still bolt you a into another room safely for example.
  21. Yep. Neither is the staff complaint closed, nor are you involved. If you think this is a general policy to put a note on people for LRP behavior and that it should not be the case post it in the policy suggestion forum. I am locking thing. Refer to the original complaint for the result.
  22. There is the issue that antag borgs get that. The robots also cannot push anyone, or even resist getting buckled into a chair. The flasher is often the only thing protecting a bad borg player from getting ioned out of the round. A malf gives it to the borgs, robotics can give this to the borgs, anatag borgs can enable the flash protection whenever they want. You want to know who the flasher is for? The cadet and the roboticist. They have to deal with Ion lawed borgs, so I always saw the flasher as the one backup implemented, in case anything ever goes wrong with a stationbound. Ion laws are common, so it makes a shit ton of sense to have a none lethal way to bring the robot in and repair it. This is another thread that is missing the point of RP. The flasher may suck because it disables you (as a none antag only, honestly why would we want none antag borgs more efficent in combat?), the fireaxe to the face might be a worse alternative because it takes you out for good. It is also the only way for antags to capture a borg and emag it. This would get removed with that change. Giant NO from my side. None antags do not need it, antags already have it. It is frequently the only thing protecting the crew from an Ion law or a hacked AI, while also the one thing saving the borgs from getting shot on sight.
  23. There needs to he a clear cut between what the items itself are worth and what NT sends to cargo as bonus for doing their job well. Keep in mind that they not only pay the miners, own the asteroid and station, but also need to send the stuff across space. If a miner makes 5000 credits a shift and gets 1000 as bonus from the HoP it makes a ton more sense then if he made 50.000 credits. Focusing on the idea that cargo does not directly sell, but merely exports items to central command.
  24. Pickaxes and drills are pretty much the same as the default KA, if used in the right way. The mining module of the borgs is a good example. With the material meson thingy they get it can outmine any other starting thing just by having the right direction to go. Same goes for a pickaxe and mining pad build. The KA is just the most obvious choice and many miners still give me the looc "where did you get that" when I drag in an artifact. Those get destroyed with KAs and lead to mining being the same every round, while the pickaxes offer a chance for round changing stuff to happen. There is a ton of pros and cons of every mining tool to be made, but I would prefer the community to figure them out themself instead of just getting a list. The resonator for example has a really fancy side effect almost nobody picked up on because it does not make the same amount of materials. While creative folks like Aimmo frequently build railroad networks over the entire rock for a hilariously fast movement, others RP out finding the big veins and going for a single mining charge to collect it all. This PR will mainly change the first mining haul by making the other tools more viable (you can steal a drill from xenoarch, no clue why mining does not start with them, it's a one minute walk over there) and allowing people who dislike the KAs to roleplay out creative mining characters without breaking their mouse (diamond pickaxe really needed some less clicking, you still can do it, but you can also just bump into rocks with the PR ).
  25. https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/8036 This one requires a feedback thread for reasons unknown, so let me explain the details while nobody clicks the link ? The goal was to make the different mining tools easier to use, more viable as compared to a KA (if your character for whatever reason does not use them i.e. roleplay) and stop the overflooding of the cargo account by a single miner who does their job decently. The example I'd like to use is the 20/20 method which many miners have seem to picked up. You go out for 20, bring to science and get the KA, you go out for another 20 and sell whatever you found. This was often ranging from 20.000 to 50.000 credits, an amount that you honestly could no longer spend during the round except on supermatter crystals or tactical armor for every cargo tech (as has happened). As with every feedback thread: Discuss
