  1. Appeal accepted. You will be able to log in and play again.
  2. I'm willing to give you another try, but you have a rather lengthy record of notes. So before I lift this ban I need you to do two things: 1. Read the rules and make sure you understand and follow them: https://aurorastation.org/rules.html 2. Be aware that you are under close watch after this unban. If you are unsure about mechanics, use looc or ahelp. If a mistake happens like that, also shoot us an ahelp instead of logging out. Lemme know here when you've read and understood both and I will lift the ban.
  3. Explain this line to me please. Afaik the system picks equal from everyone who readied up, disregarding how much or often they play or when they readied up before roundstart. Total rounds played on a given day, while readied up at roundstart for a given command role, will increase your chance to play this role more often, since you have more total rounds. Don't get me wrong, I think the idea is great, although hard to implement, but someone who readies up for every round will play more rounds in that role without it being an indication of a rigged or broken system ^^
  4. That is the issue though. There was not. I do not think taking someone in, sentencing them for murder and telling them that's it, is something that a head of security should do. My issue is not the arrest, or investigating what was going on. The sole interest was to brig them for murder, taking them out of the round and winning by doing so. You cannot just make up charges as a head of security to win the round. This was relayed to me not only by the antags, or command, but also the officers handling said people. You know OOCly that they are cultists, your character ICly has no reason to believe that there is a group of crazy people trying to murder everyone. You may suspect that, you may bring them in for searches, question them, have each and every one of them followed by an officer, let the detective figure it out and so on. Removing them from the round was not the right way to handle this. A new player does not have to be a cadet. It could be anyone who watched that, or the antags, learning that security will just make up a charge to remove them. This is not a mindset you want to display. There was a research director the entire time, there is also CCIA. If you are in doubt about doing it the right way, many heads of staff have also made use of an ahelp. Restoring the structure by figuring out what is going on and how it can be solved. Not throwing it out the window. ICly the chief engineer was acting weird and the captain seemed to be a bit nuts. That is enough to investigate. That is not enough to have someone arrested, with a charge for murder, just because they are easily grabbed in while visiting the brig. The skrell scientist was sentenced without any investigation, simply because the officer handling it had just joined and had no idea what was even the reason for the charges. They asked to be allowed to go to cryo because the round was over for them, due to said sentence without any explanation. I will await for the log dive of another admin. As I said before, the situation might have been simply misunderstood by most parties involved, but the tickets and the situation printed a rather negative picture during the round.
  5. I'm still not sure why we (try?) have to balance it. Game is not balanced from the get go, since antags can just do everything. If you want to win as antag and are able to abuse enough systems you will win. Be that building a mech in maint, making yourself ion immune as borg or just abusing chems as human. If you play to win on an HRP server you will win, simply through abusing the goodwill of the people focused on the RP part of it. As long as we allow shooting on sight, the one shooting first (sometimes with the bigger gun) will win ^^ it just happens that a good security department can be 3-4 player. A good merc team on the other hand can win with 1. Now if both sides would try to avoid getting shot by taking cover and talking to each other, there would be a lot less salt over who had the more itchy trigger finger. That being said, I don't think security is overpowered. A well functioning station is. So is a single ninja that got all the mechanics nailed. What I see a lot is a complete new cadet getting a shotgun. Usually never ends with an extensive RP situation, but I get why one might be tempted to hand out the spare guns after losing 3 officers. ^^ The issue I see with depsec is that the "sec mains" will have this figured out in two weeks top and we are back to normal. I think this is more of a mindset issue than a mechanic problem. Maybe one day it will be "This is security, we protect the good guys." Maybe that requires security getting a lot more help from the crew and not the usual "sec man bad" though.
  6. Round ID was b6v-aHti That was why I asked during the ticket if there was anything of aiding or other crime that those cultists did, that you had a reason to grab them for. During the ticket you did not mention this point, which is why I found it rather poor to arrest 3-4 people for murder when a single person did something on the other side of the station. My example in this was arresting all miners when someone get's attacked with a pickaxe. Not the best play, but allowed. Sentencing all of them for murder because one of them did it would be overkill in my opinion. The fact that you used a security position to end the round after the first cultist and lock down the rest of the antags was the reason for my decision to give you a timeout, as this pretty much mirrored your last warning. Additional notes of ignoring other command staff prior to that warning and after that warning has lead me to escalate to a ban in this case. Although not part of the whitelist team, I was aware that it would go with a whitelist removal, hence why I urged you to make a complaint and have another staff member look into it. Which I granted you the arrest for. It is fair to assume that they are somehow connected, or that they might have helped either before or after the fact. Failing to provide any evidence to said things and going straight for the sentencing for murder, a.k.a perma brig them and remove them from the round was poor play. There was ICly little motivation to hold either of them. The skrell in this example was telling other command folks of something they found outside, doing the usual cultist xenoarcheologist discovering some strange book stuff. Instead of questioning them, they got sentenced and perma briged. My main concern here was that finding out more about what this stuff is or happened was not a thing on your mind, it looked like the motivation was to remove the cultists from the round. The Skrell and the other unathi wore the cult clothing but came into the brig without much of a fight from my understanding. Their focus was on providing RP for the round, not winning through mechanics. Sentencing them to murder when they have not even shown violent behavior and worked together with security even while being arrested is an easy way to "win" the round, something that should not be done by any security member, especially the HoS. Since the definition of aiding and abetting seems to differ between the two of us: Aiding and abetting to my understanding is actively supporting a crime. That means either providing the tools for it, fully aware of what is going to be done with said tools, or being present and active in the crime itself. Neither where the case for any of the cultists to my understanding in the ticket. Hence why I told you the best you can do with the rest of the cult is contraband for the strange sword. This would be a short stay in the brig, providing RP, sides for the crew to place themselves on yadayadayada... removing them from the round by perma briging all of them did not seem like something any HoS would nor should do. This is a guideline on the wiki. It is not a charge in and of itself. As a command member you are expected to know the mechanics, the community and show the responsibility for smoothing in new players. Your head of security was disregarding the command structure, by placing himself above other command members, which no command member except the captain can do. Not deeming it required at any point to inform central command via a simple fax of what is going on or what his intentions are. Shut down the investigation against the antags by demanding all of them to be briged for murder, removing them from the round. Doing all of the above while rolling around in a wheelchair in the brig, instead of either seeking medical attention or, given that you play a dominian, stepping down and letting someone handle the ISD who can at least walk. As I mentioned before, your prior warning describing exactly this behavior and the two notes around it show a clear disregard for the command structure. Without said prior warning and notes I would have applied a severe warning but after reading it over and talking to the other admins online at that time I decided that a temporary security ban is the lightest punishment for what happened. I decided to go for a temporary and short one, since I am a fan of second chances and hope that you will improve and learn while observing from the outside for a time and then playing as security (if that is a role you wish to play, I don't think blocking you from it permanently is a solution). I do however not think that a head of staff should set these kind of examples for new players and as stated in the conditions for that whitelist, administrative actions taken against you will result in a strip of said whitelist. I am however not perfect, investigating things in round can often be hectic and messy, one of the reasons why I urged you to write this complaint. Having another member of staff check through the logs and taking another look at the round when it's over is a good way to either make sure the judgement was correct, or to remove it if it's deemed not okay. If I punished someone to harsh or innocent, due to missing out critical points, I hope to see the ban changed after the investigation. This is one of the times where I would be happy to be wrong.
  7. This is already covered on that page: https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Guide_to_Contraband I do agree with making it more obvious that a kitchen knife is a normal item for every lunchbox though. The common sense bit leaves much up to interpretation and someone having a knife on their person should never be arrested over it. Having a clear regulation like that one: And having it announced more often during the round could go a long way in changing the mentality from "everyone is a danger" to "just a crewmember with a pocket knife." I support to change it
  8. My roboticist had some strange robes but was okay overall. Ignore the security channel, it's supposed to be secure..
  9. 100% Agree. This just adds onto the solo powerhouse that robotics currently is. The abuse is obvious, not only the powergaming but the demand of materials. I had a roboticist chase after me and my material box because I suggested to trade my first haul (which is R&D usually) for an EVA suit. The only redeeming factor ICly was that I already promised it to the other roboticist, but the LRP chase was hilarious ^^ Robotics is like xenoarcheolgy really, you get rounds that are amazing for mechanics, you get rounds on which you cryo on roundstart focus on RP instead. Think the mentality should be to make the best with what you get for that round, not min-max every round only to show up with a combat hardsuit at the red dock, not having talked to anyone the entire round. Maybe that's just me, I play miner and am usually done in 20-30 minutes and then do the RP. Same with engineering, rando events give me 10 minutes of work once a round and that's it mostly. I play here for the RP mostly so I don't mind it much, but if mechanics are more your thing, going for the scrapper and trying to put together stuff from the things you find can be awarding aswel. tl:dr Exosuit fabricator goes Brrr
  10. I ran into a stealth merc team during yesterdays bug hunt. The playing for objectives came from not understanding many mechanics and being scared of almost everything on an OOC level. I have voiced a couple issues with the current system already, but having to explain every merc how internals work should not be a permanent thing, people do learn and get more easy with doing the funny stuff. Then came tower defense... oh boy... Our team did not even manage to stay together, we just randomly shanked people for their IDs and credits. I am not saying this is bad for starters, but good gimiks will be rare with teams being that random. On the other hand people trying it out might lead to more regulars that then in turn offer good stories, so we'll see how it goes. It just feels really wrong to me, having someone try out traitor due to the random chance, then getting punished for sucking at it. Recent case would be a cadet and a medical intern both being traitor and so unfamiliar with the mechanics that everyone involved just kinda panicked and started clicking until horizontal. RP goes out the window when people are scared or laughing their ass off and I hope this improves rather sooner than later.
  11. Just remove the SM out of your settup and pour in oxygen as needed. If you start with hot enough phoron it does the entire maxcap game inside your pipes. Brayce and I had a good laugh from that, think Cybs watched on cameras. Honestly though, 1 to 1 phoron and shoot until you feel it tingling in the monitoring room is what I do nowadays. Legend says you can throw in Oxygen anytime you want as long as you keep the walls from melting. But that is not something for the faint of heart ^^ Zippo engine is a waste compared to the power of oxygen and heated phoron. Then again some races need oxygen to breathe, so not sure how they react to you burning it all for the glory of the engineering department.
  12. Saw you the first time playing a grey assistant who did a ton of RP as a vampire and was baffled to say the least. Next round you played the bridge assistant and command enjoyed your presence a lot. Learning the tropes of the whitelist ICly is always a smart move, but usually people ask for interim instead of assistant positions. Your antag play was stronk and fun, the RP was there and you showed that without antag status you are still a fun person to interact with. Getting randomly put sunglasses on your face to match your outfit was just a simple little nudge I did back then, but your reaction made me giggle a bit to hard ^_^ This app has my support
  13. Good characters, good RP, good player. I might be late for the admin party under your app, but it's a pleasure to have you in command ICly and in the round OOCly. Good luck with your trial, shouldn't even be a small problem for you to pass ? You have my full support for the command whitelist ❤️
  14. Hey dropping in the admin side and "sometimes" hacked IPC side here. We did that a couple of times with mercs doing the posi emag swipe and then giving the player the antag role. Usually only requires both sides to be cool with it and an ahelp and there is little in the way of supporting this. A mechanical item would still be very useful to make it more accessible to those who do not like to ask the admins or want to force it onto someone in an evil fashion. I would imagine doing it with a multitool and having it take a long time makes sense, maybe even announce it to stationbounds and AIs, like some kind of emergency protection message. Maybe not a name and a location, but something like "Illegal Posi Access in process" would spice stuff up I suppose.
  15. M E L ? So far nothing bad at all, saw you active a lot and you played an able CMO who even interacts with the rest of command. You know your stuff and have a general feel on how to direct a round without taking it over, good candidate for the whitelist imho. Also a great thing to see some fresh CMO, lord know we need them.
  16. I have taken some time to think about the issue at hand and come up with the following. The ban will be lifted on the 03.04, we usually do not do month long bans but I am a firm believer in second chances. You have a long history of promised change which did not come about and led us here. I have hope that the month of absence will not only show the severity of the situation, but lead to a better respect towards our rules and general atmosphere once you are allowed to return. After your return you have the chance to show this to us by staying out of trouble and keeping a clean record. I can only talk for myself in this regard but actions weigh a lot more than words to me. The appeal can be considered accepted with an unusual condition. I will close this within 24 hours. If you do not agree with the decision made you are free to post a staff complaint to have another member of staff look into it.
  17. In this case the issue of logging out in a locker (70+ minutes, a small discord DM would have been enough to solve this or an ahelp ala "not sure if I can be back soon, please cryo me if I do not return.") itself, nor the fact that you made some small mistakes is not the reason why I banned you. The issue is that you do not stay out of trouble, nor have improved after a lot of promises of doing so. When we put a warning or ban on people it's always with information on how to avoid it in the future and why exactly this was placed on you. In this case I read through your notes, warnings and bans and just found a massive amount of them deeply disturbing. You got one from 29.1 saying to stop handing out warnings and notes but instead start banning since you already collected a large amount of both. On the same day you got temp banned from antag, two days later you got temp banned from the server. 16.2 a warning clearly telling you that if you screw up within a month you'll be perma banned. 21.2 Temp banned for abusing malf powers after death and lying to staff 23.2 Asked for a week ban from antag, collected notes for abusive language in OOC and stripping a wizard instantly in that week 02.3 Warning for turning people into vampires without RP, once more saying that the next infraction will result in more than a warning. That was a day before I applied the permanent ban and what brought us here. I have left out the notes between each of these events to not make the list even longer, but every time you told staff that you would improve, yet you do not seem to stay out of trouble for long, which is really concerning to me and the main reason why I invited you to the forums with the ban itself.
  18. Same, that should be an option after someone is willing to do it. Staff complaint if a shitty malf is not handled, let another staff take a look at it. Depends on what you mean with salt, for me it's a useless debate. I can defend malf for days, I can see why it needs to be removed. This entire discussion stems from quote number one though. If rework was the vote result and nobody wants to rework it, go for another vote. We do not pay coders to do what the community wants and if nobody is willing to rework it than the vote should clearly be between keep and scratch. Heck I would vote for scratch it, since it's a shit ton of work for the staff with little to no silver lining, does not mean that I will support the forum game of "He said, she said." A vote could solve the situation, this threat only generates and spreads salt. I will take the prior suggestions about improving malf and AI as example here, the best ideas will not help if nobody does the coding part. Playerbase wants their new shiny things, coders want to remove it since nobody wants to do the rework, magic contributor to fix does not pop up out of nowhere, result is everyone pointing at each other, rewind in a couple months. That's what I mean with salt in this case, there is little discussion going on about the topic.
  19. I love how most of the issues presented should be ahelped, but rarely are. Before malf it was ling, before that it was merc, before that it was traitor. It's never the gamemode that is broken, it's the playerbase. Salting on the forums will not fix them issues, ahelping them might, playing malf yourself to offer some better rounds would be even better, but nobody does that. APC explosions can be nerfed, so can the gravity slam. Cooldowns on a lot of stuff would make malf a bit better. Removing the shuttle recall and delta would solve it, so that the entitled part of our playerbase can RP in their department while the rest engages the antag and gimmik of the round. I honestly enjoyed it when a ton of people went to cryo and salted in dead chat (because I can mute that ^^) that the roundtype is malf before even waiting for any kind of gimmik or interaction. Made the rounds less populated and by extension a lot better. Maybe giving solo malf a top of 20 readied players could help with removing it from high pop as solo antag. If you want to enjoy antags though, both sides should scale back their need to win a ton. That is what ruins rounds.
  20. Swiping in with a small solution here, make it scale better. Let's say three people need to be readied up for malf, one AI and at least one borg. Reducing the damage from shocked doors would be another step to allow the playerbase to touch doors more often before salting in dead chat enjoy the round longer. Right now it's rather on the high end of damages. Instead of large scale APC explosions, I would love some small camera explosions to punish the unga people valued members of the crew. Maybe give an ability that creates camera traps, so you should use ranged options against them. I frequently find malf on lowpop to be rather great, while high pop always has a couple people rushing the escalation within a minute or the AI going silent. Removing it from secret would not really fix the mode itself though. From command and staff view point, the problem with malf really is the inability to come up with either a good gimmik, or the crew completely unwilling to go along with one. More RP focused tools might help with that, but ingame it seems to be a playerbase issue more than a mechanical one. The example of Ninja + Malf comes to mind, when the AI is hiding behind other antags, to not be silent but in concept still going the full stealth malf round for a greentext instead of making the round enjoyable.
  21. Like the sprites, but have to agree with Skull on the futuristic part. Hilariously enough Deus Ex plays in 2025, but the fashion in that game seems really far away (sadly). They did some really good artwork with different ideas for how futuristic clothing could look like, absolutely worth a look at. Armored vest anyone?
  22. One of my favorites to see in engineering. They know how to handle their department and have survived the initial crash of being in command with some really hard rounds for all command members. You did a better job than most and stayed humble throughout it. Enjoyed working under them as engineer, with them as fellow command and against them as antag. You did great with your trial so far and have my full support.
  23. As newcomer to the Vaurca whitelist, Leudo has taken the time to welcome me with their Ta, provided a ton of interesting RP and made it a really enjoyable experience. The statement that he is always going out of his way to create interesting RP for others is something I can wholeheartedly support. My overall opinion remains unchanged. A great person to pick up the mantle of command, always looking forward to seeing him on the list.
