  1. I don't think the flavor text should be mandatory, but at least have a complete record could be a good idea. There is a good tool available to write them on the forum and it's not that hard to do. For the flavor text, I don't see the point, we have visual support for most of our character appearance, after that knowing the weight if the person have scars or other, it should be only optional information if the player want to share them.
  2. Other alternative solution similar the ones mentioned, put the ID in a safe in the Captain's office. It will be a but harder too get without being impossible and unless someone go verify the safe door directly they won't know if it was open or not.
  3. After a round yesterday I realized that there currently one way to sabotage the radio communications on the station with close of zero chance to bring it back and it is by destroying the communication relay by the AI. When trying to fix the problem, I realized that there is no spare board available in the telecom storage despite having nearly everything to build communication back from scratch. So the suggestion is simply to add a board and material to build an other at least there (maybe a second board in tech storage?) so we have a slim chance to be able to restore the communication on other Z-level than surface when the relay is destroyed.
  4. As it was said it's a possibility already with the wires or by an AI / Cyborg. I don't really see why the doors should adapt the the person opening it to close faster, but I would not be against some door going into sensitive sector to have the "short" time by default. Also, if that become an option, a lot of people would be using it and it will become a bit a Meta action as you know that doing that would make the life of the antags a lot harder in some situations.
  5. Personally I like the backstory and having played mainly with Tae Su-Yeongseon, Shenaanigans have proven to be a good player. I see no reason to go against a lizard application +1
  6. I recognize a few names in the list and I had good time playing with him, I think he is doing good in a command role. +1
  7. Thanks, I am doing what I can so nobody in engineering just sit bored not knowing what to do and to keep things running, but yeah, I let my link after each round I do (about 2 each day) and there is unfortunately very little feedback.
  8. Like many others I do enjoy Cnaym characters, even when they try to kill me in dark corners. I'm pretty sure that Rin would be at good as licking her own eyes as are the other lizard people. That and the fact that the backstory seem interesting and solid enough. +1
  9. Why should it be all or nothing? Just take is as possibilities. The general ideal is not to ask people to completely ignore all these things, but to not systematically act on them. Yes it is possible cargo have contraband, that's a risk and when it's in your face you are free to act upon it. Same for the carps, people know they exist, they know it's a possibilities, it don't mean they are ready at each moment to kill them all. When the alarm occur people get ready for them and do the sweeps. It should be the same principle for cargo contraband. Yeah, that can happen, if someone find something fishy and report it the security, there is no problem for them to investigate, but doing a systematic sweep of tunnels only accessible by some personnel of the station is not necessary. Also, I don't get why people seem to fight so much to keep the systematic sweeps of maintenance in place. I could understand it could be a real threat for security if there was laser rifles, landmines and frag grenades spamming in it, but that's not the case. It just gives antag some additional tools and even in some other case give people on the station some help.
  10. That was pretty much my though, to say that it is cannon that the maintenance tunnels are always full of contraband at the beginning of each shift, would imply that between each there is someone that purposefully goes into the tunnels to drop all this stuff. It's a game mechanic in place to help some type of antags and going directly against it pretty much remove it's purpose. If this is the way people are acting about it, we might as well just remove it. Myself and many other players often play dumb on purpose about a lot of mechanics due to game limitation so things can progress, I think that maintenance contraband should be one of these too.
  11. BYOND key: Screemers Character names: Kylee Steele, Wisdom Gray, Lana Pearsall, SIR, Spark-03 How long have you been playing on Aurora?: About 9 months Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Kylee was created with a background as what she was about to become a Chief Engineer soon. But at the time I created her, I was not confident enough OOC about knowing the in-game systems of engineering to a depth good enough to assume the role. So, I played engineering a lot and learned from interactions and argumentation with other players to cover the missing knowledge in a way to make a progression toward a possible promotion. Now that I have a good knowledge of the Aurora’s engineering aspects and the policies in general, I feel that it is the time to take that step forward in my character progression. Why did you come to Aurora?: Except a few rounds, I played mainly on RP servers since I began SS13. Aurora was from my experience the most balanced server in terms of sticking to the strict aspect of role-playing while giving at the same time enough leeway to keep things fun for the players. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes, my character is over 30, she got at least 10 years experience in engineering-related field and she has a doctorate from Ceres University. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? To my knowledge, I do not have any notes or warnings applied to me. I have been Bwoink a few times for minor details or to give explanation on situations (mostly when I started playing on the server) but it was more about clarifying some actions than giving me administrative measures. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Role-playing is about performing and reacting as the character you are playing. Meaning to give that character a life of its own with a personality, preferences, strengths and weaknesses. Once the character is set, the following part is to create interesting interactions with others to make the “story” of the game progress or to just to have a good time with other people. You can develop relationships with some people and become good friends, or your feud with others because of your different points of view. But in the end, you need to try to make it fun for everyone. It is also important not to mix OOC with IC when you play, it’s not because things can sometimes go in a wrong way in-game that it should be the same with the players behind. Often, these actions can be motivated by other events you are not aware of. But, if ever you really have doubts about the person intentions, that’s what the game moderators are there for. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The Head of Staff, as a whitelisted character, should show the example as of how to act in the department. It does not mean to be “perfect” but there is a minimum or professionalism and a way to act with others that need to be followed. Being a Head or Department also put you in a position where you are the better placed to help with the integration of the new players. It doesn’t necessarily mean to personally train them in everything, but you should at least make sure they have proper support so they can grow properly in your department. It is also important that they feel like a part of it and not just a burden being sent back on the bench each time something interesting happens. It’s a game after all and being involved in the different events is a big part of the fun. The position of Head of Department comes with some authorities that help the player to steer things in a way that should involve all the department as much as possible into the action. Without forcing others to anything, the Head should at least act as an enabler for the others. The Head is also a first line to identify some player behaviour that could become problematic (especially for new players). Being that first line can permit to warn them about these actions. As possible it will be done IC or if it’s more technical in LOOC. The head is not an admin though, so for more severe issues, they should be the one to act and take decisions. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: The other players would expect the Head to have a deeper knowledge about the rules and regulations of the station as well as an excellent knowledge of the department managed by the Head. They will expect the Head to be a reference when needed and to act and take decisions when difficult situations arise. As I wrote previously, the Head are enablers for the departments and people are expecting proper answers from them. I have been reviewing all the Corporate Regulations of the Wiki recently as some of the lore to be sure I am ready for that part. As for the decisions taking in-game, I do believe I have enough experience now to make the right calls and be able to help people in pretty much everything that does concern engineering. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? Kylee is from the Sol Sector and is working on the Aurora in Tau Ceti more by loyalty to the NT corporation than any other reasons. That being said, she keeps an eye out for news that could affect her work as for example the activities of the Synthetic liberation front that try to infiltrate and sabotage NT installations these days. She also keeps an eye from time to time on the PRA activities as she had to be cloned due to being a collateral damage to their activities in the past. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Chief Engineer I plan to play other characters here and there to have some variety, but Kylee has always been the character I played the most and by far. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Kylee Steele – Chief Engineer How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Pretty decent, I know I’m not the best role player around for sure, but I’m comfortable enough to have good interactions with people and to make the game interesting. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes, I do. Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? I have. Extra notes: Sorry if ever some sentences sounds weird, English is a second language for me.
  12. I don't have one, but that post makes me thing I should. I try to play an AI more in the line of a mix between HAL 9000 from space Odyssey and Eddie from Hitchhicker's guide to the Galaxy. Normally at the start of the round I just type a message to remember people of abusive NT regulation they have to follow and giving them random facts about space.
  13. I'm also in favor to add an internal security rule to avoid maintenance search without probable cause. I don't play security a lot, but I've seen some people just rushing to run in maintenance running while dragging a crate to get as much possible stuff as possible before someone else can put their hands on it. That just yell Metagaming to me. At least these days there don't seem to be the mandatory sweep order that I have seen in the past.
  14. I support Cnaym application as my in-game experience with his characters were always good and I believe the player behind them have enough of critical view to deal with problematic situations. Despite the fact Cnaym have not been playing on Aurora for a long time, there is clear signs of wanting to be an active part of the community and if he have to time to do it, I believe everyone could benefit.
  15. I saw something interesting from @MoondancerPony while browsing the forums today that could also be a good alternative as the lines of when to call a shuttle doesn't seem to be at the same position for everyone. Adding vote to evacuation shuttle calls I think it's worth looking into as it will be the people in game that would vote to end it. Like that, people playing command would be able to say they did what they were supposed to even if the shuttle doesn't come.
  16. It would make sense to have an access level similar to the janitor one for other departments. I remember some games where I was called non-stop on the general channel to hurry somewhere while being stuck at the door of the department. +1
  17. I like the idea, to be honest since I'm here I can count one one hand the times I saw someone using the Penlight and I saw the breath analyzer used one time. Can be nice to just fit them all together is a nice new scanner.
  18. It goes against all my beliefs !! *Take a sip of alcohol free beer* "You can taste false hopes and deception" But honestly, I'm always good with more drinks.
  19. I'm not going to vote on that one as I don't know the player, but as other said. The application looks like a low effort compared to the others that are posted and there is the impression of a lack of interest emanating from it.
  20. I saw Omega around and it's a good cyborg player. The background story seem interest, ill be curious to see what he can do in an IPC body. +1
  21. Played with some of these characters, but mostly Nicola Penna and I like the balance I saw about being serious in his job and being fun to play with. I can't really think about any reason to not give him a species whitelist for Unathi. +1
  22. I mostly played with Spike Barnes, which I see a bit less these days, but Cnaym is a great roleplayer for sure and should do well in a command position from what I've seen so far. +1
  23. Thanks for the tool, it's pretty much what I was looking for and even more. I updated my Records list with it and works like a charm.
  24. Ok so being send to jail will show on your record automatically. But my question was more about accessing a medical computer with your ID, where you can review and manually change a patient file. Will these changes carry on?
