2 dismissals Relax the requirements for species whitelist.
niennab replied to Lordnesh's topic in Rejected Policy
I understand your frustrations however there were a lot of smaller issues that were accounted for when denying your second application. It wasn’t just the matter of acquiring +1s. In fact, although I didn't want to publicly put you on blast, I felt that you were unable to work with our feedback or concerns. This was felt both in trying to rectify the matter of the IPCs perceived lawed behavior as well as what I pointed out to be questionably passive aggressive answers from you. Sadly, this thread only further solidifies my fears. The role of a lore maintainer can be one that is mentally and emotionally difficult and so part of my process in considering any application also is a vetting process to see whether a player might become problematic. I don't want to have to strip whitelists just as much as I don't want to have to be in the situation where I have to approach a player over whitelist related issues. As an aside, we had a moderator look into your note history. I did not want to bring this up publicly in your second application either, but it factored into the matter. I, however, do not appreciate the blatant lies that I am seeing in the thread. I asked you in your original application to expand on the story in addition to a number of questions. You only answered the questions and so, after waiting the 72 hours I give every application, I closed it on the basis of my request not being answered and the application remaining bare bones. Moreover, I did not decide whether I would deny or accept your application before you responded. Although perhaps I was not clear. I wanted to give your application one final saving grace with the last set of questions and criticisms. My team struggled over your application, truly. And I like to believe that had we not cared, we would not have put the time in that we did to try and work through it with you. I am not alone in my endeavor in processing applications. However I will concede that it would help the server if we had a more concrete guide in place for writing whitelists. Such as offering recommendations on how to build a character or things to consider when demonstrating an understanding of the lore as well as the ability to apply those concepts to a character. There are a lot of uncertainties that are felt in writing an application and so I understand. -
Lordnesh IPC Whitelist App v2
niennab replied to Lordnesh's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I sat on this for a bit but unfortunately I am going to deny this application. I do think it was a great improvement from your first and I strongly urge you to reapply if you're still interested. The character concept isn't against the lore but the main issue I take from it is that it isn't very grounded. As such I think with a bit of retooling and possibly a simplification of some story beats, the character concept could work. However with the concerns brought up, a new account, no feedback from the community as well as remarks such as: I do not feel comfortable approving this application. You are welcome to reapply in 3 days and I apologize for the barrage of questions. I should have denied the application in my last post with the feedback over dragging you along. I do feel as though the application is nearly there however. Feel free to advertise your next application also! -
Lordnesh IPC Whitelist App v2
niennab replied to Lordnesh's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Sorry for the delay. Myself and the synthetic deputies were discussing this for a bit and I'd like to ask more questions before proceeding. There is a story here, but it doesn't say enough about the character. Each of these events can be elaborated on. Such as, why was Hippocrates so committed to its ideals even after many years, assuming the pirates didn't reprogram it? Is Hippocrates emotional or not? I'm not saying the word enjoy is wrong, but you talk about it acting according to its laws, while at the same time disliking certain things, making it harder to grasp the character. It's an interesting backstory, how the IAC purchased it. How did these events affect Hippocrates? The chain of custody is a bit confusing, first it goes to the Solarian agent to be given to the pirates. The pirates are then wiped out, but the captain goes to pick up Hippocrates. Why isn't the captain arrested and the IPC confiscated? What makes this IPC so special that the IAC sends a ship just for it? Why didn't the pirate captain make Hippocrates heal his crew, even without direct orders? For that matter, simply so I can understand the character better, why does it leave the pirates to die. -

Lordnesh IPC Whitelist App v2
niennab replied to Lordnesh's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Thank you for reapplying. I have a few questions pertaining to the application. What is a Solarian agent? You mention this but then refer to the owner as a pirate. Which military fleet was the IAC with and why? Why did the military ships attack the pirates or vice versa? It should be noted that IPCs are not lawed and so they are able to interpret orders given to them and do not have to take them at face value. As such it may be better to phrase this as more that Hippocrates calculated or assumed that he'd likely survive the encounter if he did not play a part in the fight. How was it given it's freedom if sold? Did the IAC purchase it only to give it it's freedom? Why? -

Burrito is gonna beep - IPC Whitelist
niennab replied to Burrito Justice's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Are you able to change this or write a different character concept? Although perhaps not required, I'd prefer the applications to pertain to believable characters that could be seen on station, as it also helps demonstrate an ability to take the core concepts of a race and apply it to the setting we most see. How would Xanandu navigate self preservation, or knowing that they would survive, in an intentional crash? -

I don't think this is a good idea purely on the basis as to why people don't charge the crew money when they work in the kitchen or bar. It's tedious and annoying. Medical as is has to deal with a lot of mechanics and will often have less time to RP as a result. I suspect that if implemented, no one will use it in the same way a bartender says "Your drinks are paid for by a food and drink fee on your pay cheque."

Thank you for applying! With Schmidt's passing and Edie's sale, does Edie still pursue literature? Does Edie have any personal opinions or resignations pertaining to Schmidt's death? -
I thought I'd upload a few images that I like, but I'll likely never finish. Sentiment (gun) Locke and Aubrey (in disguise) Zenith Brandon

Merging the Borg Clerical Module into others
niennab replied to Chada1's topic in Discontinued Projects
I don't agree with giving the clerical borg a CSI kit as it will turn the stationbound into a pseudo security role. The role of a forensic technician or crime scene investigator is one of analysis, investigation and a doctor of death. As such it doesn't really make sense for clerical to have that role. Moreover without a CSI/FT, no one in security can do anything with the evidence unless they want to be bwoinked for job hopping. Moreover I can imagine if I were the forensic technician on board, I'd inevitably have to scream at the stationbound to leave when it gets to the site before my character and spams evidence gathering before I even have the chance to do my job. -
Being More Specific About Disabilities
niennab replied to TrickingTrapster's topic in Accepted/Implemented Policy
I haven't been following the larger arguments related to deafness and muteness however, would the easiest solution be to make it that if you select either disability, you automatically spawn with hearing aids or a text to speech box that you are required to have while on duty? A text to speech box that can preferably interact with the radio channels as well. While visitors aren't required to use these devices. -

I like the vision cone a lot. There are times I have to catch myself from turning around and interacting with someone despite my character facing the other direction prior to. It's easy to get in a habit of responding to what one sees, despite what one should see realistically. If someone takes an axe out behind me, I shouldn't be able to know just because it's in the chat or in the visuals. I am a bit worried what this might mean for people walking away from someone who is typing to them. There are tricks people sort've do to wait for a post, and the cone may cause people to walk off unknowingly. I don't use the bottom bar so I don't have the typing icon. Nonetheless I wanted to suggest possibly extending the cone a bit however. It feels strange to me that the diagonal tiles behind my character are lost. I feel as though a persons peripherals shooouulldd at least give them those diagonal behind tiles. Example below. With the tile straight behind me, I found it a bit weird that while dragging someone on a chair, I couldn't see them. However I understand if the team wants to keep the behind tile hidden.

human Sherman Fixes The Map - Human Lore Dev Application
niennab replied to The7thLain's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I am really glad you applied and I wholeheartedly support your application. You are incredibly creative, amicable, level headed and I am certain you would be able to navigate through the conflicts that can come with being a lore maintainer. I think it's crucial to just have someone on the team who is professional, easy to work with and a pleasure to have around and I personally believe you fit all of those definitions. Now for some questions. The human team has, in my opinion, far more work than any of the other lore teams. As such, do you believe you will be able to navigate it with a healthy work/life balance? The role can sometimes be emotionally draining. Do you believe you can navigate the stresses or any burn out that may happen? -
Without the story expanded upon and 72 hours passing since the whitelist was posted, I am going to have to deny the application for now. You're welcome to apply in 3 days however.

I've removed the rev portion of the original suggestion but I think it'd still be better if we adjusted the antag exploitable portion!

Icedcabbage's IPC Application
niennab replied to icedcabbage's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
The application demonstrates an understanding of IPCs and the ability to apply the lore to character creation. Accepted. -
I sat on this for a bit but I am going to have to deny the application for now. The application is nearly there, but there with a lack of feedback, a new account and a few questions, I am on the fence about it all. I think this is a very interesting point however. I recommend fleshing out the backstory and reapplying. As an example of concerns I still have, if 81 was able to pull themselves and another miner to safety, how were they damaged enough to warrant being sold all together? Nonetheless feel free to apply in a minimum of three days.

Sorry for the partial delay. What do you mean by this? How does the sense of humor manifest and why is it interesting? Moreover although Heph hires a lot of Unathi, there's no mention of them on Mars. What chassis is the IPC?
