The only time I've ever seen it OOCly enforced was back when we had separate rules for contractors. Other than that, I've never seen anybody really care and removing it would just make it official. Especially as sec has gone from having some of the best uniform sprites to some of the absolute worst since the changes, I'd be more likely to raise my eyebrows at folks using them than not. I also think the people getting uppity about skirts and feminine wear for security or otherwise have zero actual idea how a) women work and b) how women's clothing works due to the sheer amount of BS that they come out with, but I've died on that hill already and some arguments just aren't worth it. That 'let's relax uniforms' always leads to 'but then people will wear skirts!!!' is also pretty damning as to where thoughts come from in these cases, but hey. Plus, so many of the arguments of why sec should use their uniforms work for every other department, where it seems character freedom of expression and lore is much more important, as it should be. I'd much rather see some cool outfits the player has come up with to show off their character's personality and heritage than boring jumpsuits for 'muh realism', which is very much not the reason I'd imagine many people play Aurora for anyway. So long as it's identifiable as security in some small way, I don't see any problem. Though I am against corp colours as a new goal post. A lot of them are pretty garish and unfortunate, so forcing that would just recreate the issue with a new taste - some kind of beret, emblem, whatever should work just fine.

-1 or me for a few reasons. - Unless I'm mixing you up with someone else, which is entirely possible, I seem to remember some pretty snide dchat comments and whatnot from time to time? - This is more for CMO than anything else, but seen a lot of 'wordlessly grab, drag to machine, force feed pills' level of interaction when people come into med, which kind of sucks for the person on the receiving end. Fairly limited RP given to things, though I think that's often a pitfall of constantly rolling antag. - I don't think I've ever seen your other characters, so it's possible I'm judging you too harshly on the above and it's just this particular character that's problematic.

I can respect the mass effect title reference, assuming I'm on the ball for that one. Otherwise I'm not really supportive of this app either. My interactions with Rising have usually been watching him run around screaming profanities at things which seems to conflict with general dionae lore? I might be wrong, but either way not exactly command material. Not being very kindly or whatever isn't really a massive bar to command characters, but also mechanics have been lacking from what I've seen. I distinctively remember watching another character being stuck in the OR for like 30 minutes after you didn't take a scan for whatever reason, which then led to yet more angry screaming, which then I think bled into the main discord a little? Seems that sometimes IC frustrations is rooted in OOC frustrations which isn't a good look and can make it miserable for other people too. -1 for now, albeit with potential to improve.

[Resolved] Action Complaint - Issued warning

Complaint stands for itself tbh. Nothing to say from my side. -
Peppermint96 Staff Complaint
Peppermint replied to Herpetophilia2's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Don't agree. - I have no guarantee you didn't only search the security areas simply because that's the only place you have access to lol. - Taught other people to powergame, including new players (the cadets) who don't know any better. -This is the kind of thing that causes OOC bad blood as well as IC frustrations, and is a big reason why we often have so many issues and discussions regarding sec play. - Your attitude in discord about it was really bad, and I don't have faith that a warning would have been enough - as we've seen here a bit with trying to state a minimized effect. Not changed my mind in a job ban, which you can appeal, being all too much. -
Ok that makes more sense

Cybs has mostly echo'd my thoughts tbh. You were told there'd be consequences for it, I just went ahead and delivered said consequences as the first person to get to it. From my POV: - You admitted to it in the general discord, including so far as to say you'd stop 'if it was removed or the loot table fixed' which is pretty darn bad to my eyes lol. I don't buy it was a joke. - There was discussion in mod chat about your sec play and how this was a pretty big deal so a ban should likely happen. - I said in mod chat that I'd apply the ban when I got home if nobody else had. Greeted by crickets at the time. - Got home, ban given. From what I saw there and here, you'd already been spoken to by Cybs that something would take place due to it and nowhere was that stated to be just a note. I also do not agree you were unaware this was an issue. Even if you have stopped doing it, that doesn't erase past actions and none of the discord discussion hinted that you understood the problem. I'd have been more willing to reach out and get your side if you'd not come across how you did in those logs. Tone doesn't translate over text very well even if you were just trying for laughs. EDIT: I didn't say anywhere on the ban that you were the one encouraging people as far as I know, (Oh wait, yeah I did) just stated that it had happened and why I agree with the others that there needed to be heavier handed punishment. However, the fact you've admitted to teaching it to other people absolutely stays in line with why I feel this play is awful enough to warrant a job ban. After looking through the mod chat logs that were discussed this morning (this is mostly to garn so I'll not be linking anything) I see where the confusion has come from and why I should have directly messaged 'em to let them know what was going to happen, but I absolutely stand by the ban being justified. -
Out of interest, why was this a discord thread? Very obscure place to discuss things and find any kind of info. Anyway yeah, these sprites aren't great. We've gone from fairly intricate (as far as ss13 goes) uniforms to these blocks of colour that are a lot more 'ss13 style' than much else. Can't say I'm a fan either and do not really follow the logic behind them.

bobbob212's command application
Peppermint replied to Afya's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Not massively impressed really, for some similar reasons outlined above. Your RP seems fine, but the vast majority of the time it's being hijacked by constantly going after antag gimmicks that tend to involve taking over the bridge, then killing yourself. It's gotten pretty old. I think you need time playing and integrating actual characters rather than shells for deathmatching before going for a WL. -
Could it be made to be similar to the old kataphract one, for the above? Where it has some background lore faction able to spawn in and interact with each other - not exactly riverting gameplay, but adds a little extra so you're not stuck doing nothing.

Yeah, agree. It really doesn't fit well - nor does it roll of the tongue all too nicely. Even the director alternative is better.

I Want To Bring Back Goldman
Peppermint replied to SleepyWolf's topic in Character and Concept Feedback
Goldman was fun if you weren't on the other side of it. Too many rounds were just plain miserable due to his tendency to entirely take over and be the protagonist. I dislike the character and don't want him back as he entirely derailed rounds and made absolutely everything revolve around him. The obvious one that comes to mind is where he held the round hostage for hours due to 'not wanting to embarrass himself to NT'. Sure, okay - but the issue there is this is a video game and it affected people's ooc ability to restart the darn thing and move on. I have very limited trust in how he would somehow be better in a representative role, other than the fact he'd be easier to just ignore I suppose. However, I feel the same tendency to try and dominate rounds and become the centre of attention at the loss of other people would still be a thing. Likewise 'it's just the character' doesn't work to my eyes when people have a choice over what kind of character they are willing to play, and sometimes that just doesn't work in a group setting where everyone needs to contribute to the round. -
I feel we should keep them as antags, honestly. We didn't have that many issues when we had burgalar occasionally spawning outside of when it was supposed to. Allowing them to play as EE spies doing whatever, imo at least, would make things more interesting and add more stakes to rounds. Just give them limited arms and make the spawn rate really, really low - removing hostile ships and whatnot is just going to lead to things like the TCFL one, which people have already stopped using. Likewise being too limited on what the spies can do such as only taking pictures and whatnot sounds really boring and nobody will use it. I think they should be kept in, but told they have to stick to their role. Perhaps a disclosure to run overly hostile stuff by staff or something before going hard. I'd personally be fine with keeping them canonical, but can understand if people would prefer they get the away site treatment instead. Seems wasted potential to do much else.

The warning was written kind of shit, but I stand by that it was a justified. - The record itself wasn't okay. You agreed to change it but doubled down on doing the work anyway ' if you got bored'. It essentially gave you free reign to do cross departmental work. - You were running out to hunt down anomalies rather than just coming across them. This is science's job, not yours. You have a history of this kind of thing, hence a warning. - If we use the 'I mechanically can' argument due to the items you're provided, most departments with medical kits can do FR's job, most can do security's job, most can do large chunks of engineering's - it's not a good enough excuse and you should stick to one lane. I'd have maybe left this as a note if you'd not essentially doubled down on 'I'll be doing it anyway'. Miners shouldn't be crossing over the annomaly job on purpose, across multiple rounds. Likewise I have no log IDs, ticket info, or evidence during this build up of IC reasonings you've given me here, in the same vein I have no evidence your character was continuously breaking IC regs and the latter was therefor discarded and I will be doing the same for the rest listed here. I stand by the warning and have no intentions of lifting it.

Permanent Ban Appeal - FireNightPower
Peppermint replied to FireNightPower's topic in Unban Requests Archive
I am never lifting this ban. You have had too many chances and insulting another staff member for zero reason after it has ensured that. Appeal denied. -
I maintain that the removal of the previous alt titles was a mistake, as they allowed a lot more character growth. To be blunt, if I want to play ss13 medical to do mechanics, I'll play CM or paradise or something similar where you just have to worry about said mechanics. Removing RP and character flavour on an RP server is not a good move imo, and just letting staff know if a surgeon is overstepping and being an asshole is a much better idea. Further removing medical flavour is not the best plan, and all the issues will still exist -seems a department certain people love to feel superior over anyway (med students, admittedly, as it tends to be) and they'll manage to figure it out. Surgeon overstaying their lane? Let staff know instead imo.

[DENIED] Faye - Synthetic Lore Deputy Application
Peppermint replied to Faye <3's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I don't really see who else would be better set to take this spot - between passion for the species, general lore engagement, and previous contributions, everything lines up. No questions though, I'm afraid. -
Player Complaint -- ImmortalRedshirt
Peppermint replied to Omicega's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Hiya, After looking through the entire round log line by line, the exploitable and what they've been changed to, as well as the resulting ticket and outcome, we do not feel like the player is defending the viewpoints their character presented. Had we come to that conclusion, it's very likely they would be permanently removed from the community but this does not seem the case. That said, the way the round was dealt with was incredibly questionable due to the impact it may have had on other players. Namely encouraging the use of the character's deadname for a 'psychological impact' as well as linking real world laws in an attempt to give it IC basis is entirely unacceptable and disregards the thoughts and feelings of many of the playerbase, as well as the lore writers. Whilst roleplay is a great medium for exploring identities and struggles and we're glad Aurora can provide such to players, doing so at the expense of others is not at all okay - to both the lore team who first wrote the piece, and those in round who had to deal with it. Due to this, we want to make it clear that there will be zero tolerance for any further repeats of this kind of thing and, as such, whilst both the relay and in game issue were handled by staff at the time, further action will be applied due to us looking at the entire picture across both mediums as opposed to just isolated incidents. Unless there's anything else, we'll assume the matter is dealt with. Thread will be locked and archived within a day or so. -
Player Complaint -- ImmortalRedshirt
Peppermint replied to Omicega's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
This should be resolved by tomorrow (or this evening, depending on one's timezone). If anyone has anything else to add, please do so between now and then. Either here or directly to myself/Faris, but otherwise I'm going to assume everyone has said their piece. -
[Resolved] Character Complaint: Claire Tarson
Peppermint replied to CourierBravo's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Okay. A lot of hearsay here about what people have seen, or have heard, ect. However, if people wish to make these kinds of claims, they need to post proof. Round IDs, screenshots, conversation logs; any further posts without them will be removed and strikes handed out. Especially given the seriousness of some of these allegations, I expect to see something concrete. Anything without it will be disregarded. -
[Resolved] Character Complaint: Claire Tarson
Peppermint replied to CourierBravo's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Myself and @Faris will be taking this. See my previous post. If you're unsure if what you have to post is relevant, ask one of us first. Deeming this fine as a player complaint given it's more on mods than CCIA to deal with the issue being reported - that being a character being entirely unbelievable on an OOC level, rather than acting out ICly. -
[Resolved] Character Complaint: Claire Tarson
Peppermint replied to CourierBravo's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Not necessarily going to be the one handling this, however: Just going to remind people to only post on complaints if they have something actionable or are directly involved. Opinions, thoughts, and preferences as to how things are handled should be taken up separately. I handled the original issue of Tarson a while ago back during the super whacky microwave deathway stuff, during which it was retconned and the player spoken to. The character was allowed back so long as she cleaned things up and acted more reasonably. So whether or not she has or hasn't should be the focus here and the more recent the logs, the easier this will be. -
I really like this, haha. Fits the asteroid scenery of being out to space that much more.
-
Agree with it. Far too many people throw themselves right back into command roles, and it's incredibly selfish in my opinion. It very often disrupts rounds and makes life harder for other people - folks prove over and over again they do not put effort in to catch up on their own. It's not like getting the WL is difficult either, so the standards really aren't that high. Still distinctively remember the finale of the old tajara arc where someone who'd not been on in years took the hos spot, burning someone else out who had also queued. Upon finding out how much things had changed, they then went straight to cryo. Things like this are too common and I do not feel those people commenting here who have not played, and have shown no real interest in playing, for upwards of a year have a leg to stand on. Just play a round here and there if you think you might want to keep it - you have 365 days and all. if anything, I'd want this to be a semi-regular purge, and this is from a gal who takes lengthy breaks every few months.

Put new human restrictions in character generation
Peppermint replied to Marlon P.'s topic in Archive
I like this fix more. Good idea.
