  1. Thanks for the updates! It's just nice to see what's going on behind the scenes.
  2. Please god. They're just an excuse to self-antag, start a fight, and be an all round greytider. They add nothing.
  3. Still support this. It adds RP value and a way for folks to entirely avoid doing surgery if they don't want to, which is actually pretty common. The med pop took a huge dip after the removal of alt names like this and I don't really thing we've gained anything from its lack.
  4. I would mostly just like in game prices to match up a bit better. I know this is a pretty big undertaking, but it's very difficult to talk about finance stuff when money is so out of whack. Or just a 'standard cost' type thing on the human lore page would be amazing, even if it doesn't lineup with game mechanics at all. Plus, I always felt that the NT salary thing Resi did never really made much sense, as everything is VERY well paid.
  5. Fairly sure the OOC point of them was to encourage people to play ZH. Seems counterproductive to remove them.
  6. Isn't the fix to this to learn medical systems? It's not very difficult to get the basics down. I'm not really a fan of further simplifying antag kits when it's yet to really make any positive impact.
  7. This would be mechanically exhausting to deal with. I really don't see it adding much, given the 'major' damage things leave behind enough to kill you anyway, and I don't really want to be stuck with burns all round because there's no medical and some assistant shocked a door.
  8. I support this app too. They've shown a more holistic view toward synth lore than other applicants, which is great.
  9. Hi. I'm commenting on this as a player, not as staff. - All the arguments were built up throughout the round. We (Pariah and Yamazaki) only escalated after Simon pulled a revolver after an argument that had gone on throughout the shift. I'm really not sure as to why there is a suggestion of a problem here, given it was purely IC and steadily built up throughout. - When we came to medical, you were strangely hostile and told us multiple times to leave. First with the person who stabbed himself multiple times and had shown himself to be violent, then again when Simon was brought in after we detained him. This hardly won your character points. - You were told to leave security because, to be blunt, your character was getting incredibly annoying. Anytime anything happened, he ran over to drag his nose into what was going on. Whether that be the fight, previous arguments, or to 'remind us of our jobs' despite it being entirely out of your character's scope. So yes, by the end of the round, you were no longer listened to and instead told to leave. By which point an officer had been harassed to come with you despite refusing multiple times. - None of this was ahelped, but instead turned into a complaint when it turned out the IR was invalid? Which seems pretty off to me, ngl.
  10. Heya, Friendly reminder to only post if you are directly involved, or have something actionable. Eg. Logs, round IDs, messages, or something the two of us can investigate directly. If you're unsure, message one of us here or over discord before posting, please.
  11. My issue is that you seem to spend a lot of time AFK. In a smaller role like warden, this is fine. But as command...well..not so great, you know? So I suppose my question is about the reason behind this and how you'd fix it.
  12. Heyo, Thank you for answering my questions. However, I cannot support this application due to the potential issues of someone doing both loredep stuff and taking over as general deputy. This is not because I doubt your character, nor am I trying to suggest I believe you would use your newfound position to act on any biased; that isn't it at all, and I am sure I know you better than that. However, I am concerned for the precedent this may cause, as well as the potential for conflict. Eg. Two lore folks have a disagreement and ask you to handle it. It's between the unathi team and another team. Whilst the unathi team's issue has more merit and is objectively better and you side with them, the other team now feels slighted and questions whether or not it was really a fair decision, if you see where I'm going with this? To be quite honest, I also feel it's just generally the responsible thing to do. Otherwise I'd fully support this, but still wish you all the luck in the world.
  13. Hi there. You're a friend and so whilst blindly +1 your app is tempting, that would of course be biased and somewhat unfair. Soooo I have a couple of questions instead. 1) Whilst Elyra is certainly somewhat bear bones, there's a lot of human lore that is practically untouched relative to its cousin (off worlders, large parts of the CoC, Mictlan, ect). Why do you think this is and would you work toward these elements at all? 2) What do you feel your biggest OOC hurdle toward writing lore for the team might be? There's always a risk when going from player to staff in any community that things can get a bit sucky. It's not unheard of for some of our lore devs to practically vanish, after all. 3) A lot of your answers understandably focused on only human lore within its own setting. How do you feel about the race's integration with other species? Is there anything you'd like to change, work on, ect? Good luck with your app ^^. Sure you'll do great.
  14. Hi. I unfortunately also have to -1 this. I'm less concerned about the answers, but more feel you need to put some time into playing departmental characters away from just comedic value/quick gimmicks. Whilst your merchant is a step in the right direction, still got a 'lil bit to go.
  15. Hiya, I echo Matt's concerns regarding the bias issue between being both a maintainer and a deputy. I have no doubt you have the mentality and attitude to do well at the role, but I can imagine so many potential issues regarding that combination even if you do not act on them. This isn't a lack of support, more so a concern. For more direct questions, a lot of the changes you suggest are all really interesting, but would require a lot of work from multiple different areas of staff as well as the player base. How would you put these forwards in a way that are sustainable? Secondly, for the stuff regarding the phoron crisis and it impacting the station, how do you plan on balancing mechanical realism and enjoyment?
  16. I dunno. I'm torn. On one hand, sec antags are one of the few that get off the ground and there's a lot of potential for interesting things. On the other, it usually just devolves into getting shot in the back in the middle of a firefight by someone who emptied the armory 20 minutes ago and is now packing all their gear. There are so many factors that add up to sec antag being miserable. Between decent starting gear, easy armoury access, and full comms, people would be fine could they be trusted not to abuse it. Unfortunately that often isn't the case so you get rounds where the antag has take every advantage they possibly can before going full TDM without a hint of resistance. Then throw in things like warden antag with no command and it's just a disaster.
  17. This will just kill highpop times in return for more lowpop rounds. People voting transfer are less likely to want to play the current round, so they're not going to join, so pop stays low, and it repeats. May is always a dead time for RP spaces due to exams and the like. There's also the issue of people not having the slot they want, folks not wanting to play certain manifests lineups/gamemodes, or those who late join. This would cause plenty of problems in return for maybe fixing an issue for a smaller part of the populace.
  18. Been enjoying traitor AI, honestly. I don't support this at all, given anyone messing up/breaking rules is just asking for trouble given the whitelist.
  19. Bear in mind that science is a lot of weird, old code. I seriously doubt the wiki is up to date, so expect some trial and error. That said, xenoanarch is one of those departments that are best experienced as a surprise. There's a lot of really cool stuff, and learning the systems before going in will just sap the fun.
  20. Despite a propensity to murder me in every game we play together (co-op and otherwise), very much a +1 for Omi's OOC conduct. They've settled into Aurora very well and seem passionate about it, which is pretty darn lovely to my eyes. Likewise their general play is great, and I seriously doubt they'll have any issues with their command app - at least going off of the HoP round I watched.
  21. Basic Information Byond Account: Peppermint96 Character Name(s): Mercy Loveday / Gabrielle Khalen are the ones I play the most right now. For the full list: AI Name(s): N/a Discord username + tag: - Age: - Timezone: - When are you on Aurora?: I work full time so can only play in the evening. However, I do so from home with a fairly predictable schedule so would be able to leave the client running early in the morning and during early afternoon. Weekends are more variable given the whole pandemic thing, but tend to follow a similar structure - albeit with later nights. Experience How long have you played SS13?: Three years, but with heavy breaks. Consistent play is closer to two. How long have you played on Aurora: My forum account was made in Oct 2019, but I was active before that. So all in all, 18 month or so? How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: Pretty much everything security/antag/command. The vast majority of medical and the more niche science roles. Very mediocre engineering. Weakest area is most certainly service or the plain scientist role. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: Nope. Have you read through the criteria thread; https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4198 - and believe that you mark off all the criteria?: I'd like to think so, yes. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: One 24 hour ban 16 or so months back. For hacking into the bridge as a sec officer on a nations round. I’d assumed everyone came under antag roles. Turned out we didn’t ^^. Nothing else since. Personality Why do you play SS13?: For HRP and, by extension, Aurora. I wouldn't play the base game otherwise. Why do you play on Aurora?: I personally feel it's the only HRP server left. It's very easy to drop in and find roleplay and is considerably more convenient than forums or chatrooms. I also adore the community here. For SS13, the general tones of acceptance and kindness from folks has been amazing and I can't understate how precious that is. What do moderators do?: Uphold the rules and spirit of the server, answer tickets. Take responsibility for tackling player issues as well as to look after the community. Offer help with roleplay and mechanics to newer (and more familiar) faces when required. Be a friendly face who's at least somewhat active outside of the game, so through forums, discord, ect. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: Similar to the above, but specifically for Aurora: Ideally to have a vested interest in the community at large and want to see it improve. Due to the many different types of people we get, safeguard those who need it but be welcoming to all. Support the wider staff community as required and needed. Comfortable and relatively experienced with roleplay. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I've played on the server for a long time now, and have been active in the wider community since then. I enjoy my time here and want to contribute to help ensure Aurora continues to be the accepting, warm community it so often is. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I like to think I'm fairly level headed, adaptive to change, and able to step back and look at the wider picture even if I disagree. I have no issue in admitting I was wrong or changing my mind via discussion, as well as taking on feedback to improve. I feel I have a realistic outlook on what the role would entail, as well as the drive to get good at it. No romanticisms here. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I'd like to think that it's considerably more stressful than SS13 modding. Likewise spent time volunteering on crisis hotlines and the like, so very much 'comfortable' with people undergoing a lot of emotion. I'm not going to pretend these things never impact me - I'm only human, after all - but I've gotten used to handling it without too much trouble. Also not too prideful not to just ask for help from those around me when needed. Anything Else You Want to Add: - There’s another Peppermint who plays on TG that I got confused for early on. Different person. - Unfortunate timing maybe, but this isn’t an April Fools joke lol.
  22. +1, Tish is fun and a good sport, plus seems to make sense for the character.
  23. Whilst I would personally like size mods in theory, in practice I feel this sets a poor precedent and would just lead toward everyone on the station being even more of a land of the giants than they already are. There's too much mechanical significance to playing a short character like this - plus most of it can be RP'd out anyway, aside from the blood thing. It would also be problematic to certain races like skrell and possibly m'sai, which isn't ideal imo.
  24. Heyo, I wanna make super, super clear this is not a complaint or a -1 or anything of that nature, and not at all meant to be taken in bad faith. Bear with me, please. In a not-so-distant round of hesit + burglar, medical was called to the brig to treat myself (a warden) and a downed raider. I was in a really bad way after being lit up with lasers in a vented area, so had severe blood loss, brain damage, and burns. The raider was also having a bad day and dealing with blood loss, but the extent of their injuries was much more stable. However, whilst they were wheeled off chatting happily, I was left to die on the floor after nothing more than a scan and had to be dragged to medical by the rest of security, at which point there was some IC conflict over why I'd died whilst the raider was saved. Mostly as we'd been after help for a while and didn't get it, but the antag did despite being less hurt. Again, this is not at all a complaint - it was a hectic round, perhaps the extent of my injuries was missed, communication was muddled, and at the end of the day, to be blunt, shit happens. I've most certainly done worse when I played med. Nonetheless, IC bickering got quite bad and there was some OOC salt at the end (not from myself, from other officers). I would say scenarios like the above are fairly common when playing command, as you have a lot to handle - especially when playing roles like CMO where you might also be expected to do the mechanical treatment side as well as liaison with the crew, give orders, and try to move the round on at an OOC level that my leave people unhappy even when you do your best. As such, my question is: how do you deal with stress and multitasking when things get hectic, especially when OOC expectations are thrown in?
