  1. Okay, the robotics picture is because a fuel tank got caught in the blast, making it larger. But yes, there will always be some poor soul who discovers (accidentally) the maxcap. That was me the other day
  2. Is this the one that started out as UNE and was a general clusterfuck of coups?
  3. When I said Major had a loudmouth, I mean that the character likes to speak up, not that he's outright insubordinate.
  4. I’m going to pop in as an involved party here (I was one of the Sec officers). I joined the round late, however I can attest to the fact that Ming, in running his investigation, acted like the HoS in giving out orders. Is that necessarily bad that he stepped up to organize the investigation? Not really, someone needs to do it, but it did cause some spats on the radio, if memory serves. I have two main comments on the exclusion of the cadets, specifically Major: 1. From an investigative standpoint, it makes no sense to not tell the officers and cadets who the suspect they are waiting to arrest/need to be aware of is. Yes, there is the possibility of a leak, but Internal Security is supposed to be trustworthy enough to where that shouldn’t be a problem. When you don’t, you get situations like the one mentioned, where an unaware cadet tries to escort the suspect to medical, which interrupted a sting. 2. Recall that cadets on station are in their last leg of training. Just because they’re young and new doesn’t mean they’ll go blabbing about things. Major has a loud mouth, sure, but he’s very good about keeping anything remotely sensitive off public radio. I ran, with my officer, a close to 2 hour homicide investigation that Major was involved with, and we didn’t have any leaks, so I’m not sure where you get that Major is an untrustworthy character
  5. I am very much against the idea of turning security into rent-a-cops, for several reasons. 1. It doesn’t fit the lore of the setting at all. NanoTrasen ISD is somewhere between rent-a-cops and a police force. They’re armed corporate security protecting a research and mining station, and they’re armed for good reason. Why would NT just change it for one outpost? 2. We used to have this debate a couple years ago every few days. Is security a paramilitary force or rent-a-cops? It was annoying, because the answer is neither. Yes, Security has a rich armament in the armory, but it (in theory) should be staying locked up until shit hits the fan or carp invade. On the other hand, security isn’t Paul Blart: Space Mall Cop. They are charged with ensuring smooth operations on a state of the art facility, so they have access to the resources to do that. I generally disagree with the idea that these changes have to be done via a nerf of both sides. Instead, we should be encouraging a culture shift within security players and antags. Command whitelists/sec mains need to be leading this shift within Sec itself. If it has to be, then it can be done via administrative action or CCIA action. If security valids your ass for petty theft, ahelp it. If the antag steamrolls you, the warden, as you sit at your desk, unaware of the presence of an antag (and probably afk), ahelp it. Some time ago, I recall, CCIA did an investigation of security because of the prevalence of valids. I don’t think the situation is nearly as bad as it was then, but that’s an option to consider as well
  6. I didn't think it was unacceptable so much as heavy-handed from where I sat. But your explanation makes sense, and like you said, you got more lax on it, I just wanted to hear your thought process behind it originally, 'cause it initially struck me as being odd.
  7. One thing I want to mention here is how I saw WAR act the other day. Ninja round, by all accounts the ninja had been peaceful, was mute. I spawn in, WAR right after me. I'm being told about the ninja, who's sitting and communicating in the Brig with the Cadet/FT, and WAR rolls in, sees the ninja, and immediately issues me an ion rifle and tells me to threaten the ninja with it. I didn't do that, I just kinda stood there, but it struck me as incredibly bad form to roll into a peaceful situation and start dishing out weaponry and orders that could escalate the situation wildly.
  8. I’m not sure a -1 because I refuse to retire a character as some form of “apology” is the best kind of feedback, but I respect your opinion
  9. Your work was legitimately scrutinized in the original complaint against CCIA, before any stupid decisions made by me happened (aka before Pryce). I’m sorry, but that work has a right to be scrutinized in a case where someone feels that the punishment/decision was either wrong or too harsh, as in that instance. I haven’t been advertising this in OOC post rounds, mainly because it hadn’t crossed my mind to do so. I’m sure if you were on when I am, you’d notice the differences in play with my Security character. However, I’m not going to sit here and “trade” a character that I think could have a good arc and story after the suspension in order to get my whitelist back. There have been plenty of others suspended for extended periods in ranking roles that have resumed service. Hell, one of them even got promoted to a captain. So why should my character have to be retired, in your eyes? Because I did something incredibly stupid OOC’ly, that had no affect on the character IC’ly? My point here is, what’s stopping me from showing that: 1. The acts by me were due to a stupid lapse in judgement, and 2. My role play has improved, with Price
  10. I was going to quote specific parts of posts, but I figure that'll get too messy. Instead, I'll just divide this response into sections. Regarding my previous behavior: Obviously my behavior in surrounding the entirety of the incident that led to Price's IC suspension, as well as the subsequent strip, was completely unacceptable. It has been mentioned/asked by a couple people why I did the whole Price with a Y deal. It was a "screw you," I suppose, born out of frustration from what I believed was an incredibly harsh penalty that only got reinforced after I felt that a member of the server's staff had intentionally done something to weaponize an IR from another incident. That is not an excuse, and I don't want anyone to think I am trying to make an excuse. It was an incredibly immature thing to do, regardless of how frustrated I was at the time. I understand that the staff was simply doing their jobs, and were not out to get me - I never felt they were, anyway. I think the frustration of that, coupled with the increasing amount of shit I had been getting OOC'ly from people in the previous weeks, caused me to lose my cool in a very dumb way, instead of simply accepting it and getting over it. Regarding Price I've never been opposed to feedback on characters. Yes, Price leaned on being aggressive, which is required in some cases, but not all the time. I have plans for him to have a different mindset, considering his suspension and 4 month absence from the station. He's not going to be a completely different person, obviously, but he's not the same. My plans were for him to be less aggressive overall, as well as more understanding (where in the past he wouldn't give a fuck about your excuses). He's fallen back into some of his old personal problems, as a result of his suspension. I would like to know what notes I have on Security play, because I don't really remember what I was talked to about, nor do I recall it being something that happened often, either. The last thing I remember before the incident was being told to not shoot someone who was stabbing someone, and that warning was reversed after making a complaint. Communication Obviously this was an issue with Price, as he's a more "hands on" leader, though I do believe that I could communicate well at times, it was definitely lacking more than it needed to be. I do believe I have the ability to communicate effectively, as I have in the past, just not consistently. Hell, my IRL job involves constant communication, though that is much different than an online roleplaying game. I tended to work well with other heads, (generally speaking) including heads that Price did not like. I'm aware that Price is not a perfect character, nobody's character is. Obviously, I lost my whitelist due to a series of very dumb decisions, and in the past couple weeks I've played, haven't had any issues. I believe I've done a lot better with Caruso of being less aggressive (different character anyway, but I mean in general). From what I've seen, whitelists now have a trial period anyway, so what harm is there in giving me a trial? At worst, I fuck up and we come back to this later, at best, I show that I have improved, and put people's concerns to rest.
  11. I’m on my phone, as I’m traveling, so I will get to the other posts later. As far as I’m aware, Price was suspended because of his actions during the Bound incident. At no point did anyone, or has anyone, ever stated that Price was “a bad command character” being involved in that decision at all. Further, were that not the case, I was never talked to by staff about such an issue, period. The entire reason the whitelist was removed, from what I’ve been told, is because I then tried to circumvent the suspension that stemmed from that IC incident. At no point was it ever said “Price is a bad character, and so we are removing their whitelist.” It was “you attempted to evade IC actions, so it is now an OOC issue, and you are losing your whitelist.” If that’s wrong, then there has been some major miscommunication
  12. I would love an example of acting “mad with power.” I don’t believe I was ever even talked to about stepping over boundaries, and I certainly never acted in such a way with that character. As for the seditionist part, I recall the round you are talking about, and it wasn’t the nonviolent solution that was the problem - it was that regular crew members were going around the Head of Security in trying to negotiate that situation
  13. BYOND key: CampinKiller Character names: Marc Price, Matt Price, Brian Caruso How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Since 2015 or so Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Always enjoyed playing in a Command role Why did you come to Aurora?: HRP server Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? Yes. My whitelist was stripped in August as a result of an immature decision made by myself to play a character that was essentially a copy of my suspended character as a form of protest. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is acting out a character who is playing a certain role in a world/story/whatever. This includes acting out a character's thoughts, emotions, actions, etc. It should be about creating an interesting story that isn't just fun for you, but for the people you are roleplaying with as well. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The OOC purpose of a Head of Staff entails multiple roles. On one hand, new players will look to other players (esp. the head of staff of their department) as a role model, and as such a head of staff needs to act as a role model. On the other hand, the head of staff is sort of like a moderator on an IC level, and needs to ensure the people in their department are doing good roleplay and not being a graytide. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: To provide a great roleplaying experience by being able to make decisions that further the roleplay of a round, and provide the management of the station. They also serve as rolemodels for newer players when it comes to roleplaying properly and performing the duties of managing a department properly. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? Well, with the ongoing Lii'dra threat and the Frost attack, tensions are high, and nationalism/patriotism is on the rise. Marc Price is a company man, who owes his status in life to NanoTrasen, considering where he was before coming on with the company. While he has always viewed the Vaurca in a suspicious manner, the recent problems have only caused that suspicion to become almost outright distrust, as his mindset has migrated towards a more "human-first" state. How this will affect his opinions and career with NanoTrasen in the long term is yet to be seen, but in the short term, his views on Vaurca working on the station are not pleasant ones. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Head of Security, maybe some Captain with a Captain character, should I make one Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Marc Price - Head of Security How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 8/10. I feel I'm a good roleplayer, but have room for improvement. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes Extra notes: I was told some time ago that I could simply C&P from my original application where applicable, if that changed, let me know.
  14. That is fair. If we're being honest, I told people I expected a ban for doing this. This complaint was really a formality, because I doubted there was much chance of anything being overturned, but I figured it couldn't hurt to try. Not that anyone will be surprised, but yes, joining as Pryce was done as a "fuck you" to CCIA. Considering I rarely play anyone other than Marc, getting him suspended for a month for reasons that I still consider to be absolute bullshit sucked all of the fun out of playing from me. I then figured I'd just sit it out and come back, never to play another canon round. Then the suspension got lengthened as a result of Jackboot's weaponized IR with a throwaway character, and that was the straw that broke the camel's back, if you will. Imposing over a months worth of suspensions against a character is just asinine. That's 5x the length of bans people get for violating server rules after multiple warnings. As someone who used to be CCIA, it has clearly changed, and not in a good way. CCIA shouldn't be doling out massive punishments like that, because it just absolutely sucks the fun out of playing. If they continue to do that, they'll start driving people away. In the end, I made my decision, and that's that. My actions are my own responsibility, 100%, though I really do hope Jackboot and LordPwner (to a lesser extent) feel good about themselves for contributing to driving me away.
  15. The problem I have with this is that you boil down the character to being a carbon copy because of how they look. A character is more than just their name and how they look. If you want to talk carbon copies, is my Paramedic Matt Price a carbon copy of Marc because he looks the same, and is the same age? They're identical twins. Yes, the name was intentional, but I would have assumed that staff would see a character as more than just their name and their hair looks the same, so that's that. The other issue is that I fail to see how this rises to an immediate strip of my whitelist. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the only note/action I have against me is one for being a dick to Queen a couple of weeks ago. I don't think I've ever, in my extended amount of time playing here, done anything that warranted a note on my whitelist. If this were a simple warning to either fix the character to not have the same name/look, I would understand your POV much easier. Instead, you have immediately stripped my whitelist on my first offense, while there are plenty of people with multiple warnings for bad behavior in a whitelisted role that still hold theirs.
  16. BYOND Key: CampinKiller Staff BYOND Key: MattAtlas Game ID: bVJ-crtZ Reason for complaint: My head whitelist was stripped for "evading CCIA actions" despite having made a new character who had a similar name. Evidence/logs/etc: I joined mid-mutiny in this round, and so never really had a chance to act "different" than Price. It's fairly hard to when you have 30 minutes of playing in an emergency and get immediately locked down by the AI after boarding. I made a character called Marc Pryce, who has quite a different background than my suspended character. This is Marc Price: Age: 39 Medical Records: Has suffered from post-concussion syndrome from ages 22-24. Check for symptoms after serious head injuries. Loyalty implantation has caused headaches and some mild resurfacing of post-concussion syndrome. Medication needed. Employment Records: Employed as: Head of Security Employment History: January 23, 2458 - Present: Head of Security August 14, 2554 - January 22, 2458: Security Officer August 14, 2544 - August 13, 2554: Security Officer August 14, 2543 - August 13, 2544: Security Cadet June 16, 2539 - February 3, 2541: Forward, New York Rangers This is Marc Pryce: Age: 44 Medical Records: Has very minor asthma Employment Records: Graduated from New Seoul Combat Training Center, May 2438 Former Military Service: Sol Alliance Marine Corps, 139th Military Police Brigade (2438-2450) -Former Executive Officer, 139th Military Police Brigade -Ended Active Service at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (O-5) Hired by NanoTrasen: December 2450 -Prior Assignments: Head of Security, NSS Apus (2450-2455)//Head of Security, NSS Ara (2455-2460) -Current Assignment: NSS Aurora II (Since August 2460) I was told during the ahelp that Pryce's behavior was too similar to Price's, despite the fact that it was only viewed over the 20-30 minutes of a mutiny, and you can't really define behavior in that time, nor that situation. I messaged Matt on discord asking for further clarification, and summed it up like this: It should be noted that the hairstyle (Cut Hair) is a default hairstyle. Additionally, I would like to point out that there is a Mark Price, played by someone else, that looks almost the same as Marc Price. There is precedent for the server allowing people that look the same. I doubt it is far-fetched to find a Marc Pryce who is working for NanoTrasen, and who looks similar to someone. If this character were to actually be observed over a normal period of time, it would be clear that he behaves quite differently from Price. Additionally, even if it were to be someone who acted the exact same, when I was DM'ing Synnono, they made it sound as if it was acceptable, but frowned upon: Overall, I don't find it far-fetched to have someone with a similar name, and looks similar to the person. Were I actually good with flavor text, Pryce was going to be described as being about 5'9", lean, and have a sleeve hidden under his jumpsuit. Far from Price's 6'2", nearly 200 lbs, former hockey player. Additional remarks: I would like my whitelist back
  17. As the person being referenced here, let me just say that what occurred was not sedition. There was no inciting of a rebellion, or "rallying" against the chain of command/conspiring against the chain of command. At worst what was committed was Failure to Execute an Order w/Serious Consequences.
  18. Security: ISD - Internal Security Department Investigations Team - Detective and CSI/Forensic Technician Mask up - Obtain and/or equip gas masks Gas 'em - Deploy tear gas Bang 'em - Deploy flashbang(s) Regroup - Withdraw from active engagement with hostiles and reorganize and reload Arm up - Obtain weaponry from the armory Officer down - Member of Security is critically injured or killed Hit - To have been injured Communal - The main room that connects all 5 cells, used for people who are HuT (Holding until Transfer) or are complaint in custody for extra comfort HuT - Holding until transfer, basically the same as permabrig, the prisoner is held until the crew transfer Setting up the suits - To add the magboots, helmet, and a full oxygen tank, to the Security EVA suits Processing a crime scene - To collect every scrap of evidence from every little thing present in a crime scene Throwing the book at them - To charge someone with every. Single. Violation. Typically done for people who are being shitters or otherwise noncompliant. Resisting (Arrest) - Both a crime and an action, typically performed by either running from Security or attacking Security as they make an arrest. Also known as a "202"
  19. (Insert apology for triple post here) Not sure I ever mentioned it, but a month suspension for this just seems generally excessive. Considering the only other thing on Price's record is a minor incident from over 2 years ago, to get a month suspension just seems incredibly excessive, even if he was in the wrong. I don't care about "high-profile incident," being some random factor into this. This is an IC consequence that is longer than some OOC bans for rulebreaking. And while, yes, I can still play the slot, who wants to play a throwaway character for a month? Nobody.
  20. One thing I will add about arming Sulyard (or rather, letting her stay armed), is that it was done for self defense purposes, considering she was evacuating the civilian area while the main part of ISD engaged the creature. I did not order her to directly confront the creature at any time (that I can recall), nor did I expect her to do so, and, in my mind, evacuating civilians would be something a Cadet would be up for in that situation. We were also down in numbers on officers, as one had been wounded before her death.
  21. I thought they were called much earlier (from memory/OOC'ly in the round and IC'ly) than the ERT. I know Price and others had requested/approved of them when they were mentioned, and he re-focused on fighting the creature without realizing that the borgs were never activated, and so, as the situation worsened, called for the ERT without realizing the borgs hadn't just been activated.
  22. I am well aware how the Vaurca died, and that the ERT died. Why they came unprepared to fight, who knows. I am also aware of the fact that the Captain's authority is final, but in the situation, we could not have relieved them of command via no confidence, since it requires a unanimous vote, that Jawdat certainly wasn't going to allow, considering his behavior. And if the Captain wasn't acting prideful, I'm not sure how else to describe it, other than acting stupid. I will also say that the action taken against you was not just from this round, but from multiple rounds, so it doesn't really apply.
  23. Oh, absolutely. Great conduct, great characters, great everything. +1 Also, did not realize you were the person I nearly executed during the xeno event for disobeying an order.
  24. I meant to post this the other day, but, I forgot. After playing with Paradox's Captain, I have to say he's probably one of the better Captains in recent memory. I like how he doesn't show up at every arrest that ISD makes, or that he's not 24/7 breathing down the throat of everyone on station, showing up at every opportunity. Instead, he's pulling the strings from his office. Hell, he has a spine. We need Captains with a spine. Rescind my -1, replace with +1
