Reporting Personnel: Stephen Degausser Job Title of Reporting Personnel: Captain Game ID: ccN-azNo Personnel Involved: - A Final Scream Of Terror Followed By Crushing Solitude, Quartermaster, Offender - Wind Over a Starless Night With Good Feelings, Assistant (?), Offender - Qilco Quvu'Qux, Cargo Technician, Primary Witness - Yukio Takano, Security Officer, Primary Witness - Usr Kzari, Security Officer, Primary Witness - Johanes Kangala, Security Officer, Primary Witness - Khazarir Prruzhulkanich, Security Officer, Primary Witness Secondary Witnesses: N/A Time of Incident: 05:30 to 07:00 Standard Galactic Time Real Time: ~2AM EST to 3:16AM EST Location of Incident: NSS Aurora Supply lobby, Chapel, Library Nature of Incident: [ ] - Workplace Hazard [ ] - Accident/Injury [X] - Destruction of Property [X] - Neglect of Duty [ ] - Harassment [ ] - Assault [ ] - Misconduct [X] - Failure to Execute an Order Overview of the Incident: Upon my arrival to the NSS Aurora I was informed by officers Usr Kzari and Johanes Kangala that a collective of Dionae in the Supply department had not only broken several fixtures in the Library, but amassed a considerable amount of biomass that consumed station floors, walls and other assets of the Supply department. I quickly made my way to the lobby and found that the biomass growth had exceeded beyond the department and had actively compromised the walls between Supply and the Chapel. Upon further inquiry as to the reasoning for such behavior the Dionae known as A Final Scream Of Terror Followed By Crushing Solitude immediately began making excuses for what amounted to vandalism, attempting to use cultural relativist platitudes and pedanticism to justify the destruction. I requested that both officer Kzari and Kangala move to acquire cameras to take photos for evidence, following them to the Security department. During this time away from Supply I noticed on several occasions that nymphs had been observing me from a safe distance, usually scurrying into the vents whenever I came too close. Having the evidence collected I presented the Dionae an ultimatum - they were to destroy the biomass within 30 minutes or I would have them charged with vandalism, with potential to escalate to an Incident Report. Insinuations of speciesism were levied against me during this time for not allowing them to keep the biomass - I ignored them and returned to my office. Nearing the conclusion of that thirty minutes I was informed with few minutes to spare that the biomass had been removed. Accompanied by Officers Kzari and Prruzhulkanich I made my way to the Supply lobby to assess if the job had been done. The biomass had been removed - however, the walls and flooring had been completely dismantled, leaving concerns of station integrity regarding how biomass consumes its surface. The aforementioned Dionae continued to smart-mouth me when I voiced that the damage was still unsatisfactory, and continued to levy speciesist allegations. Requesting Officer Kzari to escort the troublemaker to red dock I realized that the other Dionae that accompanied them, Wind Over a Starless Night With Good Feelings, was not on the station manifest. It occurred to me then that considering the amount of nymphs that had been grown during the period I was not present that this gestalt had been amassed on station, and lacked any proper authorization to be on board. With this in mind I moved to the bridge section of the shuttle where I boarded to depart for the Odin. Upon arriving I was notified that one of the two Dionae had constructed a biomass wall in front of the bridge entrance on the shuttle, effectively blocking exit or entrance. It was at this time that both gestalts split into small bands of nymphs and began harassing myself and other staff, one of which attempted to bite me in the foot. Considering that they had betrayed my good will and continued their outlandish behavior I decided to file this Incident Report. Submitted Evidence: Would you like to be personally interviewed?: [X] - Yes [] - No Did you report it to a Head of Staff or a superior? If so, who? If not, why?: I handled the matter myself as I am a member of the Captaincy. Actions taken: Threat of disciplinary action (charges, detainment) in the event of failure to destroy the biomass. This offer was ultimately spoiled when the Dionae amassed the biomass wall on the bridge, and began harassing me on the Odin. Additional Notes: Another Dionae gestalt, allegedly named "Free Free Free", was also assembled on board with aid from the Quartermaster. Allegedly the Quartermaster saw them destroyed by crushing them in the elevator when they began misbehaving. I find this kind of savagery to be absolutely unbecoming of any station crew, regardless of species.

unathi [ACCEPTED] Sycmos - Unathi Whitelist Application
Sycmos replied to Sycmos's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
1. I feel that his desire to seek out the remainder of the clan upon learning more about it from his mother, older brother and the other seniors that fled to Ouerea reinforce the family-oriented themes that clan and clan name culture are known for in Unathi society. Because it's traditional for men to raise sons and his older brother was the only male in the immediate family I feel that he took more of a conservative outlook on what clans represent due to his brother having more exposure to Moghean values. Growing up on Ouerea however has likely colored his perception of non-Unathi in a more favorable light than if he were raised on Moghes, in a more traditional family structure. In a way he is against the grain of what most traditional Moghean men are, and still retains some of those values by way of the seniors in the splinter clan. I feel that ultimately he will find himself at odds with other Unathi that are distinctly Moghean as he's likely to be more accepting of non-Unathi, but not to the point of being tolerant of Guwan. His exposure to Gawgaryn is likely limited, so that remains to be seen. 2. As most Ouerean Unathi are skeptical to outright opposed to the Hegemony I feel that he will have grown up a skeptic only to develop mixed feelings towards the Izweski. Growing up with Th'akh beliefs clearly contrasts the Hegemony's centralization of Sk'akh, and the events of the war told from the perspective of his mother and older brother will likely deepen that resentment. At the same time it is also the Hegemony's doing that they have come into a more modern age, and he is thankful if anything for the advances in technology that allow him to not only travel but to seek an education. Comparable to Moghean Unathi born in the Hegemony, however? Liberal by contrast, and likely to butt heads at the interpersonal level. Please let me know if you need me to elucidate any further! Thank you for replying quickly! -
BYOND Key: sycmos Character Names: Nikita Yutani, Cygnus Rey, Tlaloc Cuahquentzi, Adalgrimur Jormungandr, Kasper Kallstrom, Aidan O'Muireadhaigh, Andeimir Chukho, Zane Jelani, Samedi Ahouandjinou Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character: A taupe green, khaki or bronze hue - I am undecided so far, but a muted earth tone is what I'm largely looking for. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I've read it up, down and sideways since I started thinking about this whitelist. I've had the wiki tabs open for at least two weeks now, and regularly reference them when discussing it with other players on Discord. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I feel that Unathi history and culture up into leading to the Contact War paints a unique picture that starkly contrasts the very metropolitan aesthetic and values of humanity's reach throughout the Spur (outside of Dominia, of course). The distinct lack of higher technology gives Moghes and its civilization an "antiquated" coloration to its struggle to adapt to galactic society at large, which is only similar to that of Tajara if we're to compare them to any other species on the galactic stage. In the face of an ever-changing and ever imposing monolithic society it would be difficult to maintain one's values without compromising on some aspects, and I think that the dichotomy of human liberalism and the multiple clashing Unathi beliefs gives their rapidly changing and yet resistant culture its own flavor to express in RP with both other Unathi and other species. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Despite encompassing a plethora of different cultures humanity is at the forefront of the more progressive/liberal ideas (closely followed by or even eclipsed by the Skrell) in the Spur, hardline customs largely having been abandoned or diluted outside of grievous offenses to our universally accepted moral sensibilities (murder, etc.). Having only recently achieved space travel in the last fifty years and entered a diaspora stage where they are beginning to inhabit worlds outside of Hegemony space the culture and value shock that Unathi experience when exposed to life and liberty outside of Moghes and Ouerea is likely both exhilarating and terrifying to their sense of right, wrong and weird. In such a world where Guwan are largely tolerated and not thrown to the wolves, men and women (and non-binary people) live in relatively loose social structures and "honor" as a concept is largely looked upon as medieval trivia it's likely exhausting for a Sinta fresh at the shuttleport in Mendell to soak in all of how to act, how not to act and to remember that they're in a different world with different rules. While one's personal beliefs and values are important imposing that onto others is a quick way to make enemies, and finding the balance of being true to one's self and their heritage while fitting in is an act of roleplay in itself. Character Name: Turazu Zaraska Please provide a short backstory for this character (approximately two paragraphs): Turazu was born in 2435 to Clan Zaraska, a smaller outfit of carpenters and semi-skilled laborers, shortly before the Contact War. Following the Atomic Exchange of 2439 he, his older brother, mother and a handful of other close relatives were split from his father and the remainder of the clan during the chaos of the fallout. In an effort to protect her two children and the remainder of the children that were in their care their mother and the other seniors that were split from the main body of the clan fled to Ouerea after several weeks of being unable to reach the others, where they hoped they could wait out the worst of the aftermath. Despite waiting days, to weeks, to even months it seemed that the fallout would never end, and that what was initially a matter of small deserts would inevitably become the Wasteland. Expecting the worst of the situation the remainder of Clan Zaraska would stay on Moghes and carve out a meager life in helping with the gargantuan task of colonizing Ouerea, Turazu himself eventually becoming an apprentice to a carpenter in the family once he was sixteen. Still, even as he grew up and moved farther away from the War, one question remained - what happened to his father? After several years of menial labor and restless questioning Turazu would ultimately decide for himself to find his father and begin his search at nineteen, aided by his older brother Ishask. With what little information they had of their clan's original holdings on Moghes they would spend the next year plotting and planning until they made the decision to leave for Mudki, the closest settled city to where Clan Zaraska had originally settled. So the pair saw their way off Ouerea, leaving everything they virtually knew behind, and traveled to a Moghes that no longer resembled what they remembered. Arriving in Mudki they continued their quest to find their father and their clan, each possible clue culminating into a name that had no recognition to either of them - Dorviza. As it had turned out, much to their surprise, the remainder of their clan had fallen into a loose mega-clan that etched out a harsh living in the Oasis of the Wasteland. With that information now known they made the rather dubious trip across the desert from Mudki and to the Oasis, carrying their original clan colors in hoping somebody would hopefully recognize it. With luck, there had been survivors of Clan Zaraska living among the Dorviza, having now since abandoned the name and relegated its accouterments to ancestral shrines. The pair, and most severely Turazu, were shocked by the dire state of the world and were heartbroken to see their relatives living in such despondent conditions despite their excellent efforts at combating the wastes with skillful agriculture and cooperation with the local Dionae. Finally reconnecting with their father, now elderly and long since begun another family having anticipated the passing of his first, Ishask returned home to relay the news to the Ouerean remnant. Turazu, however, opted to stay. Encouraged by the hospitality of his former clan despite the hostile environment he chose to learn all that he could from his father and his new people before taking an even braver exodus elsewhere to continue his desire for knowledge - to Tau Ceti. Seeking out a collegiate education in agriculture Turazu aims to bring what advanced technology and techniques the Spur has to offer back to the Oasis in hopes of helping those struggling, and to strengthen a long war-broken bond between father and son. What do you like about this character? (Describe what you like about this character): The Wasteland provides a lot of ample opportunity for "what if" scenarios, and something that I've wondered is what happened to a majority of the clans occupying what is now the Wasteland following the Atomic Exchange. Did they tough it out? Did they fall apart? Did they become something else? The Wasteland clans are one answer to that, and I feel that in a way Turazu's exodus as a child and eventual return as a man tie together the themes of family that clan tradition reinforces among Unathi. How would you rate your role-playing ability?: God, hopefully an 8 on a good day. Some days I just feel like a wet sock and my hands can barely move. Notes: no bulli pls

Omicega -- Command Whitelist Application
Sycmos replied to Omicega's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
While I haven't had a lot of direct experience with Omi's characters I've definitely noticed their solid RP chops in passing during rounds and on the relay, and I have no doubt they'll do a great job with command. +1 -
A stark majority of my somewhat limited exposure to Butterrobber in round and OOC has been unfortunately largely negative; the few instances that I was aware they were playing either an antag or a character in round they were more interested in violence than developing roleplay, and their lack of presence outside of a handful of other antag rounds I've participated in doesn't tell me that they're interested in anything outside of antag rounds either. OOCly their repeated participation in questionable discussion in the OOC channel, as well as their past attitude in deadchat, has led to me turning off OOC and deadchat more than once. I can't reasonably support a +1 unless Robber decides to shape up and develop a character outside of a face that allows him to participate in antag rounds, because I frankly can't recall any character of theirs that is anything else.

I was the Chief Engineer, Adalgrimur Jormungandr. The events of the round proceeded as is from my perspective: 1. I joined thirty minutes into the round to set the power. Prior to my arrival the manifest was largely security personnel, with two visitors and a bartender as the only other staff. No medical personnel were present for the entire duration of the round. 2. There is some mild public communications discourse about an "entertainer", named Proz-Lore The Invocator. They used some kind of magic in Security lobby that aggravated the otherwise calm security staff, to which the Wizard led ISD on a manhunt. I was still setting up the engine at the time so I could not properly respond. 3. Promptly after finishing setting the shields, about five minutes later, I was notified that Officer Cherni had burned their eyes out handling a device that the Wizard had. Given that there was no medical staff I hacked into a medical vendor to access basic medical equipment. It was at this time that the initial combat began, and Investigator Razla (Mel) left to aid the other officers. 4. I shortly chased after the Warden who had run out of the armory with a rifle and demanded an explanation as to what was going on. Before he could however we witnessed the Wizard assume a corrupted form and beat Razla to near death as she lay on the floor. At this time we still remained on green alert as there was no immediate cause for concern, and everyone continued to use non-lethals. I escorted Razla to medical where myself and Investigator Lecubarri attempted to provide aid, to no avail. She passed shortly after. 5. This prompted me to dash to the Captain's office and assume acting captainship, having suffered losses in Security with more losses on the way with Szsk and Takano grievously injured to already dead. I dashed back to Security after doing so to having found the Wizard confronting the Warden, carrying a laser rifle, and the Investigator whose disruptor was still locked. At this time I went around and finally unrestricted weapons. After three had already died, we finally switched to weapons hot. I made repeated demands for the Wizard to stand down, each one he ignored as he bided time for the animate skeleton of Takano's body to attack the Warden and Lecubarri, who I had given a singular laser rifle. I fled after he and the animate skeleton downed the Warden, being only equipped with a disruptor pistol lifted from the captain's locker and the baton, knowing I would need to attempt to reach Central somehow. 6. Sometime between then and me reaching the captain's office, Investigator Lecubarri died. I was wounded from being attacked by the corrupted form Wizard briefly, and could not run. At this time I realized that all of security was dead. I skipped making another fax (I had sent one earlier alerting Central of the goings-on when I became acting captain), and sent an EBS instead. It was at this time I called for Visitor Zeke Quirin and the Bartender Anna Kulikova to come to the bridge to swipe the extra ID I had made, and to secure them from the Wizard behind the blast doors. 7. Despite repeated attempts (the two were inexperienced with using the authentication device), we were unable to call for an ERT before the Wizard and his skeleton entourage broke into the bridge using cult magick tile corruption. A skeleton and the Wizard cornered me in the Captain's office, demanding that I submit to them. At this point I had virtually nothing else to lose, so I refused in an attempt to buy the other two time to escape. 8. The fighting began almost immediately with the Wizard opening with a Fireball. Throughout the fight, and it was long due to the Chief Engineer's hardsuit being very suitable for fire and melee damage protection, I counted the Wizard had hit me with 8 Fireballs while I was conscious. These are the only ones that I could see in the log; the Wizard had clearly hit me with 3-4 more while I had blacked out, though they did not register as I could not hear. The Wizard became so crazed with the Fireball spell that they unintentionally roasted their already-incapacitated skeleton. This went on until I eventually succumbed and died. Pictures of registered Fireballs: Pictured are the repeated attacks after I had gone unconscious by the Wizard to kill me, and his admittance of friendly-firing the skeleton: The way in which the events unfolded tell me that the Wizard never planned to engage staff peacefully during a lowpop round with no medical staff, and their insistence on needless escalation and violence ruined the experience for everyone involved.

CCIA Staff Application Basic Information Byond key: Sycmos Character names: Nikita Yutani, Saulden Ramses, Kasper Kallstrom, Cygnus Rey, Tlaloc Cuahquentzi, Andeimir Chukho Age: 27 Timezone: EST (Detroit, MI) What times are you most available?: 8PM-10AM Mon - Fri Experience How long have you played SS13?: I have been playing SS13 on and off since September of 2014, with a three year break between 2017 and March of last year. I have been consistently for the last year or so. How long have you played on Aurora?: The same time that I began playing, September of 2014. It remains the only server that I've regularly returned to. How active on the forums, discord and/or server are you? I am very, very active on both the server and the Discord, usually at the times that I've listed above. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: I have a few notes and expired warnings over the period I've been on Aurora, but I have not been banned. Have you ever volunteered as moderation staff for any other servers, SS13 or otherwise?: I have not. This is my first official staff application for an SS13 server. Do you have any other experience that you believe would be relevant to a position in the CCIA?: I spent most of the last five years knee-deep in paperwork and coordinating with teams in network security positions with Quicken Loans in Detroit and Sonalysts in Colorado Springs before that, and was a data entry clerk while in college at Wayne State University in Detroit. As for nerd experience, I was a senior officer for the guilds <Aphotic> and <Rage> in WoW (Skullcrusher PvP) for the better part of four years (late Vanilla to Wrath of the Lich King), and routinely organized endgame raiding in a guild of 150+ members. Personality Why do you want to join the CCIA?: Honestly? The allure of being the administrative/investigative hand of NanoTrasen appeals to the suit part of my brain that enjoys facilitation and management. I also enjoy Investigations (Saulden being one of my oldest characters and having been a prior Detective/Forensic Tech before the Investigator merge, I just recently started playing it again), and being able to plan and conduct interviews ICly is very appealing to my enjoyment of RP and what I mentioned previously. What do you think are the most important qualities for a CCIA Agent to possess?: Patience, thoroughness, partialness. Patience to deal with the often irrational and whimsical attitudes of Aurora's staff, to uphold the standard of the unshakable authority of Central Command Internal Affairs, and in investigating often convoluted, misspoken and unresolved affairs. CCIA act as the ICly left hand to the moderator staff's right, both steering the ship that is the server in a stable and safe direction ICly and OOCly. As moderator staff are expected to behave in a fair and just manner when handling situations with players, CCIA is expected to handle ICly situations with clarity, calm and respect for those involved. Thoroughness in investigating each and every facet of an investigation, knowing that no stone should be left unturned as it could spell certain doom for a player character. It is by CCIA's hand that a character is either exonerated or exiled, and it is of the utmost importance to examine each and every shred of evidence and testimony to filter the purest conclusion possible. It is the only way that one, at that point, can execute a decision of absolute fairness for every party involved. Partialness for the two above factors is the most important, as the CCIA member is also a member of the community and not immune to bias, whether it be through the lens of friendship or disdain. Engineering favorable conclusions for friends who find themselves in trouble can lead to disaster for not only the players involved in the case, but also for the reputation of CCIA in that it casts doubt on their ability to judge effectively and fairly. For that reason a degree of partialness is required when assuming the suit and tie of an agent, and all pretenses and predetermined notions should be left at the door. You stop being yourself, your likes, your dislikes - you become the avatar of administrative interdiction incarnate, and there should only be the work ahead to be concerned about. What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is in an ongoing round?: The CCIA Agent in round is responsible for the execution of the bureau's goals and nothing else. This may or may not involve ongoing station operations, and it is important in that aspect to remember a degree of partialness in separating one's self from what one knows of the microcosm that makes the station community. Every staff member an agent encounters via fax or face-to-face is only credible as far as what the bureau is educated on, and no amount of outside interference should interrupt the aspiration's of the agent responding. There is a time for escalation, and a time for inhibition. Knowing when to do either is important. What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is outside of the server?: A CCIA staff member should know when to behave as CCIA when it is important to the image of the team, and when not to exercise their powers in maintaining a sense of humility. Keeping a distinct separation between how one acts OOCly as themselves in the community and how one acts on behalf of the CCIA is important to upholding the community's belief in its fair execution of authority, and not painting it as an ICly weapon to use against others. How do you handle stress?: I generally like to think that I am attuned well enough with how my body reacts to stress that I know how much I can take, and when I need to take a break. I routinely take breaks from playing to spare myself the constant deluge that is the everyday flood of discussion, drama and other goings-on to maintain my enjoyment of the community. How well do you work autonomously?: I worked from home for the first quarter of 2020 during the opening of the COVID crisis, and I honestly preferred it to the claustrophobic, loud setting of the office. I felt much more productive, and was able to put a better foot forward when able to dictate when to work and when to breathe. Additional Notes:Lancer no booli pls

Can I get an update on this? I realize that these things take time but it's been more than two months with no response.
-
Getting to know MccRrib via his avatar in the ever-enigmatic Ian White and OOCly through Discord has been a whirlwind lesson in not judging a book by its cover. He's funny, well-spoken and generally a blast to interact with both ICly and OOCly. I can't think of anyone else I've done such a hard 180 turn for, and judging by his essay and our previous discussions I think he would make a great fit for the lore team. +1!

Seconded. Uranium golems by design only promote griefing and are not beneficial in any way to RP.
-
Custom items being used by miners would be really cool considering the lack of permanence in the supply staff (I'm also guilty of this moving my main character out of the department soon Dx), and the HEV-3 suit has a really great sprite and idea behind it. I trust Bear's knowledge of Tajara lore will bring out the full potential of its raison d'etre and act as an essential prop to playing out Rajka's story.
