  1. We should have a proper shadow system similar to what /tg/ has, so low-light environments don't cause issues with baked shadows.
  2. Re sprites: It would be better to split the shield "ring" effect from the machine rotation animation. This way we can move it to a seperate layer. Perhaps even make it greyscale and we can use one of the color filters.
  3. Worst case we can use this lore with a new name. We -do- actually have the /tg/ syndicate symbol in the game for the antagonist UI, so I doubt that alone would mean this would be rejected. Though personally I'd prefer a custom icon for that.
  4. @ReadThisNamePlz In your opinion, should we remove these existing limitations?
  5. This is now a feedback thread for this PR: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/17182
  6. If you want bioweapons, use an angle that integrates into our existing lore. We have several factions and corporations that has a horrific track record when it comes to ethics and weapons development. Zeng-Hu, Necropolis, Nralakk, Sol. All of these would be likely to take such an organism, and think "how can I kill people/make a profit from this?" That would remove the problems of them having been designed from scratch for the purpose of consuming. Their nature is, well, natural. But it would still allow you and your team to explore that angle, by integrating it better into our corporate focus.
  7. I ended up cutting all of these, incorporating a little bit into the main sections but most of it is gone. Some redundancies were cut down as well for brevity's sake. The Navy's being handled by Farofafeijao. In addition, I have rewritten the history section to just expand the smallest section of the history section on the main page. It does delve into the paranoia of the Himeans, and the incorporation of the new defectors into the main army. Primarily though it serves to expand the situation the frontier faced after the war. Overall it should be much easier to digest:
  8. The plan was a breakaway page. However, I am fully concious of the need to cut stuff. Some of it also could easily be incorporated into the main page. Really the history of the armed forces is the history of Himeo itself. Honestly after Xanu was released, I was concerned this might be too long. Farofa convinced me otherwise however. It's designed to show that the syndicate itself is a bit of a pragmatic adaptation of the ideals of syndicalism. It was formed not long after the COC itself was formed, so it was pretty much formed from paranoia that Sol would attack them. However, I am tempted to agree the nitty gritty of organization is probably a bit much, and should probably be cut. Tempted to agree on the army, thoguh Farofa worked on most of the navy divisions so he can give his opinions there. Some of it yes, though some of it no. Mainly though I'm more concerned about those on leave using them for training, which I based on the Swiss model. We can probably headcanon the contents just fine. This is existing lore, I didn't make this. However, I did note that the animals would need specialized equipment to handle the surface (insulation and whatnot). I would imagine that they would need to be swapped out every so often at an outpost as well, while humans and tajara can get by with just voidsuits designed for the cold (and any potential radiation hotspots in a crashed vessel). This might have been a bit too much detail to spell out directly though.
  9. This was a collaboration between @Farofafeijao and myself. I worked on the integration with other species, the army, and the politics. @Farofafeijao worked on the Navy, the format for the equipment, and gave a lot of pointers and got the ball rolling with this. Lore Impact (Small/Medium/Large): Medium/Large Species: Human and tajara, with some IPC involvement Short Description: This is a comprehensive expansion of Himeo's military, and its branches and structure. Himeo is a unique place, and this is reflected in its military compared to other militaries (including the All-Xanu Armed Forces). How will this be reflected on-station?: Two things mainly: It provides a new background for Himean characters as veterans of the Planetary Guard (primarily enlisted), as well as formalizing a ban of Himeans veterans joining the EPMCs (equivalent to Hephaestus due to their position as the official military of the Eridani Corporate Federation, the antithesis of everything Himeo stands for (and it helps Hephaestus has a seat there)). It may also provide characterization for the Frontier Rangers, and expansion opportunities for the XDS down the line. Does this addition do anything not achieved by what already exists?: There is little to no lore on the Himean military. This was primarily made before the Xanu expansion, but we felt it was a good time to continue this anyway due to that recent project. Do you understand that the project may change over time in ways you may not foresee once it is handed over to the Lore Team? Yes Long Description: https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vQzSOOI1ZZ18rGJo_2qPZkirhWDlvdRSV37jZFN0kUJDBphaUqzFeN7xiRjP3690a5NyGTRJJ7vZ2C9/pub We'd like to note that names are up for debate, and we're more than happy to discuss any feedback. We in particular disagreed on the naming of the voidguard, and questioned whether renaming the entire syndicate to the Unified Planetary Guard was a good idea.
  10. Luna is old enough you could say the non-cantoned flag is from before the Sol Alliance was a thing. It'd be positively ancient at this point, but it seems valid to me.
  11. Should probably have the Solarian flag in the corner like all other Sol flags. If that's added, I would not mind seeing it added. To Rose: A template exists for this in the sprite file.
  12. Personally I believe all executions by non-antags should be disallowed. You are ship security following the laws of a state that bans capital punishment. You are not the judge, jury, and executioner. Any such case would likely fall under, at the very least, voluntary manslaughter. Possibly murder depending on the situation. Changelings can be excepted as non-human entities. Antag execution guidelines are fair though. I like them.
  13. A disagreement between artists and lore is honestly a bigger problem in my mind. It is the right of wezzy et al. to enforce a standard, but if that standard violates lore then the point of Aurora is defeated. That said I am fully in support of re-implementing uniform guidelines. We're getting more distinct subcontractor uniforms which is great. Now we should enforce their usage since the need to customize is obsolete now.
  14. That was more of a reaction from myself. It was a random idea, but yes I was fully intending to pay. I'm primarily trying to gauge skill sets in all honesty though for if something does become a reality. I have a few things on the docket I plan to contract out actually, if they come to fruition. This is fair. After the failure of the layers PR, I burnt myself out badly. It's a mistake I intend to not repeat, and it still haunts me to this day that I never finished it. It's why I ended up moving to smaller projects for a bit upon my return, but even they have managed to blossom into much larger projects that need some extra work (like the drug expansion PR). Honestly I worry about large projects myself, but I am hoping the support of the team will prevent a merge conflict disaster from happening again with the layers PR. I fully intend to finish it, but right now I am aware of major map changes that will make it impossible for the foreseeable future.
  15. Ckey/BYOND Username: generalcamo Discord Name: generalcamo Position Being Applied For: Coder Past Experiences/Knowledge: Hobbyist C++ Coder (~3 years), hobby project management, open source development experience. I have limited experience with BYOND development. Examples of Past Work: A port of Emissive planes to bay: https://github.com/Baystation12/Baystation12/pull/33255 A re-do of the planes and layers system on Aurora, allow the above on Aurora (on hold due to map conflict hell): https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/16162 Several flags, with Ouerea being the most recent: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/16888 The addition of fuel and auxiliary piping: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/16141 An ongoing addition of drugs, with collaboration with the tajara and Vysokan lore teams (on hold due to commissioned spriter being busy): https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/16773 Additional Comments: I'm applying for this position to be better able to meet the needs of the server, by having a direct line of communcation to developers. In addition, I would like to tackle larger projects that needs some support (such as the planes and layers PR I abandoned a few months ago) to be a success. I am quite active in the code dungeon and the lore discords, and have worked with the lore teams in the past to ensure my own additions meet their needs and desires. I know I can be a bit enthusiastic and heated in some arguments, but I am primarily here to improve the server and the community as a whole as best as I can. I try to engage with the community for my projects to meet the needs of as many as possible, but I do have an understanding that sometimes, popular opinion is not the correct option. Especially when a "big picture" is taken into account (Such as an overall balance scheme).
  16. How do you feel the K'lax would react to the recent lore developments regarding the Hephaestus takeover of the Hegemony? Do you feel that this may change the hive's opinion on vassalization by the Zo'ra? How do you feel the C'thur would react to the Traverse rebellions? Do you see their political situation changing? Do you see yourself developing any of the hives' political situation? What about their relationships between each other?
  17. I think the ability to step back and consider that you might not be right for a job, is commendable. Even if you reconsidered, the fact you were willing to consider the idea that you should be hands off shows in my eyes that you would be a good lore deputy. I'm going to give you a +1.
  18. I will be asking other possible applicants these questions, but I'd like your take on them. 19. In the past few months that his has been open, Dreamy has shown themselves to be a talented developer, constantly engaged with the community, and has made some impressive projects. I am concerned with their recent kneejerk PR w.r.t Meteor, however I believe they have overall trended in a positive for the community. They have my +1
  20. In review of the past few months, I believe you are a greatly talented developer. You have shown a capability to work not only on complex tasks, but also to manage the backend well. However, in review of your recent whitelist app, I see myself agreeing that you take things personally. You're talented and enthusiastic, but the manner in which you engage in discussion is concerning from a development perspective. Work on that, and I will easily flip to a positive. I update my opinion to neutral, trending towards soft no.
  21. https://github.com/Baystation12/Baystation12/pull/31909 Here's the gist of this: Fax Machines have pre-defined "tags". These tags will be available for both administrators, and e-magged fax machines, and will replace the old text entry system. E-magged fax machines can pretend to be from someone else, and will receive a copy of any faxes sent to them. For instance, an antagonist can have a fax machine that pretends to be Central Command, and they can send faxes that look like they will be from Central. They will also receive any faxes that are sent to Central, and therefore can -respond- to their fake faxes. Pretending to be a command member, or central command, is sedition, and is a serious charge. While emags are rare in canon rounds, in the off-chance this happens this would be a serious issue that would likely get you terminated or worse. Mercs and raiders start with a pre-emagged fax machine. The spare office would receive a fax machine that can be used for antagonist shenanigans. Why this is good for the game: We can finally have (re-)buildable fax machines (these could have tags locked to access, so you can rebuild the bridge's fax machine if you find someone with a bridge access card) The confirmation fax meme will be dead and gone for good (meta-wise, there is no point in doing this if the antagonist can proceed to confirm a confirmation fax, and this isn't just some IC method to ruin an antagonist's gimmick on the spot). Antagonists will have additional options for gimmicks (such as providing a fax that only command can read, instead of sending an announcement that the -entire- ship can read. This could be good for "confidential" activities, or just doing an announcement to just command that you are arriving on the merc shuttle) This suggestion is done in response to the recent announcement, but this is something I have been thinking of for a while. Rather than relying on the administrators to police this aggressively, let's just kill this mechanically and be done with it, while also allowing expanded options for antagonists to play around with.
  22. For acting captain, they did fine. +1 from me.
  23. I had planned to add glucose solution bags to medical, which would resolve this issue.
  24. I only read that it was a condition. I did not know it was genetic, though I should have realized that. Let's replace that with another issue then, some long-term issue that needs expensive treatment. It doesn't really matter what, even aging could be it honestly. Well, the PRA defeated his parent's revolution, and they're led by a Njarir. It was not his revolution per-say as he didn't live in it, but he's heard stories about them as well, but he also knows it is the most stable part of Adhomai at the moment. He can support their ideas to get rid of the traditional caste systems, and unite the tajara people. However, he cannot abide by such an undemocratic system that elevates a Njarir and their family as rulers but under another name from pure nobility. Overall his opinion is mixed. The DPRA is probably the one he most likes. While maintaining the ideas to unite the tajara people and abolish caste systems, they also practice a more democratic system to represent his people. He does not necessarily see a problem with humans per-say, but being influenced by Himean thought, he can understand their distrust of the megacorporations. However, the biggest issue is that the DPRA is tainted and heavily influenced by the ALA. The ALA are a bunch of warlords who often resort to terrorism to get their way, and break the democratic system of the DPRA to fit their own, xenophobic and warped views. Oftentimes they seem more similar to the PRA but elevating Nated instead of a Njarir, while also not caring about any form of long-term stability. The NKA... I mean, any system that tries to revive the nobility is a definite no in his eyes. I don't think I need to elaborate on that. I'm not sure how -open- the various factions are about their support for the FTC factions, so I am going to assume that this is unknown factor, and will judge them based on their merits alone. The Revolutionary Old Guard is his parent's faction. He was raised in it, born in it, but he never set foot on Adhomai. He was also trained as a Himean planetary guard, and can see how powerful a single human planet is despite their previous oppression. How is a small group going to hope to retake an entire planet alone, even if they are only half the power of the Himean guard? It's a folley, though he wouldn't betray their principles by openly stating their plans. After all, he still cares about his parents. The New Tajaran Assembly, he can agree with their terms. Though their plan to return to Adhomai with conquest, isn't necessarily something he can agree with, he can understand their principles and ideas. He's concerned about who they seek as allies though, as the ALA would be a dangerous ally to have for instance. The Adhomian Bloc wishes to seek direct integration in the Adhomaian nations, and completely reject the form of democracy that they share with Himeo in favor of a more centralized system, similar to the DPRA and PRA. This would throw away everything his parents fought for, and potentially trash their relationship with Himeo. He cannot support that.
  25. I've been brewing over this for a long time. I'd like to get it in a thread form for discussion, especially amongst lore developers. There are a few issues with our background system as it stands. Key ones include: Dual/multicitizenship is not supported. This causes an issue as, since it can only be reflected in records, it can cause issues where CCIA is concerned if this is discovered later in a case. This also bans certain species, such as tajara, from having Biesel or COC citizenship even though lore-wise it is allowed, as the tajara team (rightly) wants to avoid "neutral" tajara. Citizenship for alien species is not allowed. Guidelines exist on humans getting a citizenship within the Nralakk Federation, but it is mechanically impossible to do so in-game. This is because the teams do not want to deal with an unwhitelisted species having access to a whitelisted species' mechanics. This is soon to cause an issue however, as we now have Ouerea in-game. Residence is not reflected at all. Refugees and people who moved to another planet for work or similar aren't given their options, even if they would reasonably have it. This makes it difficult to reflect your current situation as well. I have thought over a lot of these, and have come up with a solution that I believe works for everyone: Multiple citizenships can be selected. These will be mechanically restricted to legal combinations (For instance, if you select a Biesel citizenship, the Sol citizenship is grayed out). They will also be reflected in official records, and on the web interface. Alien citizenships will be locked behind whitelists. If you as a human, select a Nralakk citizenship for instance without following the proper guidelines, it becomes a whitelist issue that the lore teams can properly police. This avoids the issues behind having a non-whitelisted species able to select whitelisted options, and potentially be able to play a "lite" version of an alien species while having no real understanding of the lore behind it. Residence will be split from origin, and will be reflected in records. This will allow you to have in your records that you are a refugee originating from Mictlan, but now living in Sol. Certain items -may- be allowed for residents in addition to origin, however there will be the option to add mechanical restrictions between origins and residencies (for instance, no-one from Sol would ever be allowed to reside on Gadpathur, and this would be blocked). This should be discussed further. The primary idea here, is to allow our players and characters extended options to roleplay their characters, while allowing for full policing of these formerly records-only options. No more will the teams have the headache of dealing with what to do with the Eridani citizen who just so happens to have a Biesel citizenship too, that was only discovered late in discussion. We can also finally get citizenship lore and residence lore reworked, and have it mechanically reflected in-game.
