o shit waddup! This application seems a bit beyond the pale. An IPC based on the malware sent through a porn website isn't something Nanotrasen would reasonably want working in its stations. I really feel that you should tone this down. Its an emergent IPC posing as a bespoke, the lore doesn't mention any limitations on how one could emerge. i always imagined biesil as the europe of space where they let in immigrants in dozens. Not unlikely i'd guess, i dont think his paycheck as RD is enough for more premium estates in the middle and inner colonies, more danger = cheaper. Just wanted to follow the lore's "small nimble research firms that make IPCs and get bought over when they go broke"
-
You didn't even mention which side his father fought for, all we know is there was a revolution and bam, he left it all in the past. The lore involvement is so lacking its as if you didnt even read it, we have no idea what kind of tajara he even is. Lore aside, character is lacking, all he ever did was "get good grades" i dont see any pointers to his personality at all, he never took any actions on his own or interacted with anyone, might as well ship a toy off adhomai and say it was a great success in the market. Just my two cents. Ill keep it to a neutral now, if you can improve the story and character a bit ill 1+ it, doesn't need to be a snowflake, just a little bit of flavor, all i see is a stale piece of bread. Oh and, our tajara lore dev already made a thread about backstories lacking in conflict lore, any application heading towards the "space refugee" character will be denied, app characters are there to make sure the player has sufficient lore knowledge.

BYOND Key:DatBerry Character Names:Rob Oster, Gordon Armstrong, B'lad, Mok'rrad Al'Adeli, Arraja Mi'dynh and some others Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:most likely Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: they offer a flavor of synthetic RP that cyborgs and other law bound synthetics cant offer, roleplaying a machine can give many choices of character behavior, some that would be a bit unrealistic for organic races. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: you are a tin can, you were made to serve these humans and now you're stealing their jobs and pretending to have rights, these rights are very fragile, not only is your citizenship and sentience is questioned, other circles believe you are a soulless monster that could start burning their villages and stealing their womyn any moment. you're at the bottom of the rights scale, next or possibly below vaurca. Character Name: Goblin Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs What do you like about this character? he's something different than the bandwagon of "synth rights1110101011!!" he's hardcoded to favor humans, he's lacking in the personality department, only showing low self esteem in the story, but i believe he can shape one up in-rounds. How would you rate your role-playing ability? "2/10 its ok" - IGN Notes:

You're telling me this bald human roboticist is making hephaestus prosthetic hands? HOW? we already have mod kits for mechs but they're really really expensive from cargo, if you Add this, can you reduce the point cost of the cargo modkits? Right now they're at 200
-
I like this because its simpler to add, but the current list is for experience in fields, it doesn't cover physical and mental differences, but i guess it can"t be helped. Maybe after this system is added we could work on basic stats, or maybe not depending on how people like this or if we actually get it working.
-
I hope he had a good reason or that you ahelped it, thats some extreme valid hunting. As for crew, they wont care till you actually start blowing things up, if you just shout over comms they will ignore you and continue to work, blow up their work and force them to listen or deal with you, besides, most crew arent in a position to give you the disk, it has to be a head who's acting captain or the captain himself. There isn't much you can threaten the crew to give you as you can easily take it yourself, and taking hostages is extremely hard, make sure you have the upperhand with more than just the hostage and the gun to their head.

(Denied) Sevine Tajara whitelist application
DatBerry replied to Nikhil's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
This part sounds a bit validhunty, especially when our lore shows nanotrasen as the assholes taking advantage of tajaras, i dont think a lot of tajara outside of security would risk their lives for their job. How is he clan focused if he's a orphan? Making cliques and avoiding other players is usually frowned upon in here, its a sign of a bad player, try to avoid it. Feedback isn't critical, you can have your app passed on how good it is, but this one isnt looking bright, needs more adhomai conflict involvement. By the way, the small snippet you get in character creation is not our lore, go to the aurora wiki -
A family system would be great, a lot of things can be done when your cousin is working cargo, a GM doesnt seem like a great idea, mainly because most events end in salt, especially antag ones, its hard to appease everyone
-
I think a better idea would be giving constructs ranged weapons, not cultists themselves, cult can improvise crossbows/shotguns and get RnD or cargo on their side, i wish people improvised more, when was the last time you saw cargo getting the engi outpost emitter and opening some guns? Giving the juggernaut a laser canon would be a good buff to the now almost useless in a security fight, id rather not give cult weapons that require murdering 2/4 people without even having the tributes engaged anymore, atleast constructs get to keep on playing.

Edited the OP to show a basic overview of the system, more skills and stats could be added, im also more in favor of replacing skills with secondary stats
-
Yes, after you choose your character history you get extra points to spend, depending on how empty and boring your life was and how much free time you had you will get points to add in other or the main fields you excel in, so you can make a beefed up medical doctor who cant do much outside medbay and have mechanics vouch for your character's competence. We could rally up the support, then firstly work on the character history part, add in Skills and restrict a few things to them, and then slowly work on stats, the last part would take the majority of the work i'd believe, as it not only restrict things, it would modify the output depending on it.
-
For antags, they would get the [syndicate Training] skill meaning they wouldn't require skills to perform surgery, chemistery etc, but would still depend on stats, antags would get extra points to spend, but if you prefer to ignore your INT and perform surgery you will have a hard time. On the IPC issue, they will either have to make a character for each, or make a skill set loading and saving feature, which is unlikely, so if you want snowflake power rangers you will pay in character slots or change it every time. As for races, i think skills will help a lot with making a difference between them and humans, and other races, skrell would have high INT but low STR and luck, unathi would have high STR and charisma but low INT and DXT etc etc, as for powergaming, we can add demerits in lore for skrell/diona who studied too much, like skrell who have their bones break easily, and diona who lose the ability to split after making so many connections with each other.

[Accepted] Whiterabit's Head of Staff Application
DatBerry replied to whiterabit's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
1+ from me, as i usually play assistant i interact with officer stutters a lot, although a barbie doll waifu, she does her job competently enough, even when lazing off they have a laptop to check on valids where ever they are. They're one of the officers i dont have to worry about getting arrested by for taking down a table. too bad i dont get to interact with their hot bimbo catineer a lot, but ive seen them enough to know they follow standards. I believe ribit can handle a head whitelist, probably. -
[Accepted] Taintedglorys head of staff whitelist
DatBerry replied to Taintedglory's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
While the character is a blizzard, i dont think tainted is the kind of person to make cringe interactions with, all their characters are somewhat normal, and i believe he will make a good head of staff, he already does great in semi head positions like warden and quartermaster 1+ -
Im a fan of roleplay via mechanics instead of emotes for various reasons. If any of you have played mount and blade, you would know of its character creation system, you choose your father's job, your upbringing and why you went on a journey etc, and those choices effect your starting stats and items, and then you're given a few extra points to add yourself. So why not add a system like that here? A mixture of skills and stats, you would need the surgery skill and enough INT to perform surgery, and depending on how high your INT is, you can perform steps faster. If your character lacks the skills to hack an airlock, you would stab the screwdriver into the panel, jamming it and shocking yourself, someone who' cant cook would make poorly cooked food, and straight out burn complicated recipes. If someone joins without setting those skills he would get a standard set enough to do his job. If someone tries to game the system by going for the highest skill set possible he would be forced to choose a demerit, like being a spoiled child who would not touch items stained in blood, or having crippling autism that forces you to move away from people. The merits of such a system is not only helping you remember your characters limits in high stress times, you can RP being bad at something a lot easier and less awkwardly. E.g grabbing a gun and trying to shoot newcops, doing surgery as chemist, trying to bend a metal airlock with an axe as a nurse. I can make a more fleshed out system for this, but im on mobile, and i would like feedback on the idea before bothering making one. EDIT: the system's basics: Character history: you choose your family's history and class, your upbringing and education, depending on these you will get a set of skills and stats. A descendant of a long line of mechanics > mid class family > went to community college > got apprenticeship Will have decent stats and enough skills to do his job as an engineer, and maybe a hobby or two The bastard child of some thug > low class family > worked in a port Sketchy snowflakey cargo thug, he might not have any real skills but he could be good with his hands. Skills: These are required to have any hope in doing some complicated work, like RnD, chem and surgery, and are aquired when making a character, depending on your character career, race and age, you might be able to add extra relevant Skills. Some examples are: [Chemist] without this, all chemicals would show as ??????? In all the machinery in the lab, good luck making imarazzledazzledine as combat nurse. [surgery] without this, everytime you try to perform surgery you will get John Smith Cuts cluelessly at John Doe' s arm with the scapel! [CQC] this would be for security members, antags and ERT, this isnt your average gym guy, you would have to have a dedicated history in self defense to have this, it would increase your push, disarm and resist chances and punching damage. [Lazy] this is achieved by having no real skills at all, you will gain halloss faster but can sleep to heal faster, you will randomly get sleepy. [spoiled brat] this is less of a skill and more of a demerit for making a very high class snowflake, you will be unable to Touch items stained in blood other than surgery tools if you have the [surgery] skill, you're also unable to fire guns without falling down unless you have [high weapon training] skill. Character stats:this will be the harder part to add, it will have a bit more freedom than character skills and will effect if you can do something and how good you do it Strength: your character's muscles and body weight, it will effect how strong you punch people, how much weight you can carry on your back and how tough you are to melee, having high strength means you punch harder, and your bones break harder etc etc. Inteligence: most jobs depend on this, medbay, Engineering, science and so, having high INT will help you do steps faster, and in combat, give you higher chance of dealing damage to organs, cutting arms and damaging cyborg, rig modules and exosuit modules. Dexterity: reduces your chances of failure, you will be able to strip people faster, and if high enough, pick pocket people, this will also help with gun handling and tools, with a high DXT you will hack airlocks and construct things faster. Charisma: for a good time at the bar, i cant come up with any real ingame effects with our current features, but i expect heads of staff to have a high level in this, it may also reduce vendor prices. Luck: the most important stat, everybody needs some luck, this will effect all your RNGesus based checks, you're less likely to break bones or get organ damage, unlikely to get the virus event, with extremely high luck you might succeed in things you lack the stats for.

[Accepted] Miruka's Tajaran Application
DatBerry replied to Miruka's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
2+ i said it before and ill say it again, nina is my favorite antag character, i can see miruka using catbeast lore to give her antag (and non antag) RP a new depth. The app looks solid to me, the character's personality is a bit unclear but that can be built with shifts and interactions. I just wish you made more characters in other departments, rare to actually meet you ICly as non-sci/sec crew. -
Im too sleepy and on my mobile to reply to every point, i do agree that its been feeling a bit less heavy than i used to remember, but one thing i want to point out is that you only need to know the lore summary of humans, not every character has a PhD in each species history and follows their politics up to date, playing ignorant of a race's trait is fun too, like tajara's 3rd person habits. Most new people start of with empty/bland characters that start to shape up with time, having everyone write a character just to join is not only ganna scare of new people, it would be counter productive.

Why would nanotrasen hire a rouge IPC that ran off on its own even after it was slaved into a line model? Why did it make the jump from engineering to science? If it was enslaved as a line model, how did it escape? Why would nanotrasen hire a ex convict as a research director on a expensive space station? Ive only observed your characters a little, but your roleplay seemed a bit underwhelming at times, we've recently had a wave of bad IPCs and this character just seems like another one of them :/ Im holding judgement till my questions are answered, but im leaning towards -1 Edit: heads of staff needs its own application, species and head apps are done by two different teams.
-
Not a single one says autismfort though Autismfort: a hideout, shelter or bunker made by a spessman, usually an assistant or engineer for the sole purpose of building, spessmen often compete at how creative or fully equiped their autism forts are, and building one is one of the great ways to learn construction.

[Denied] Double Whitelist App. CMO + Tajara
DatBerry replied to Zakumei47's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
You may want to hold off from applying for a head whitelist for now, unlike a species one, you need a bit of feedback, i dont think i can see the story of the tajara character, not sure if im blind or if its my phone, unless the first character is the tajara then i uhhh.. yea. A few other things to point, heads of staff needs to be atleast 30 years old, i HIGHLY doubt a unathi working with the ligger gov and keeping ties with his kin would be engaged to a human, you would have to find a exiled degenerate to even get a date. I also dont see anything in the story that leads me to believe the character can build a ikea table and chair, let alone setting up an engine running on radioactive hyper crystal that can turn people into ashes by a mere touch, not to mention, you would have to be a diona or a very old skrell to know how to run a whole department and the bulk of another. I have other things that bother me but ill hold till you fix and split this thread into two apps. -
I think the paper work is stop people from doing stupid unneeded modifications like walling off hallways. But then security tried to arrest me over turning the 3x2 table in the locker to a 3x1 and a few stools as a assistant, saying it was "vandalism" But i gotta say, i having even MORE airlocks in primary hallways to make moving around even more slower triggers me a lot

[Accepted] Jessica_Stark's Unathi App
DatBerry replied to Jessica_Stark's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
While my interactions with their characters were limited,i know they don't break character and RP them to statisfying levels. the app is well written and the story is interesting even though it looks bland in the begining, they were also envolved in the conflict while being space hobbos, the story may be a bit lacking in ligger culture, but then again i didnt read the whole wiki page. 1+
