Resilynn
Not like Antagonists ever actually target the CMO anyways He’s too scary. Link to comment
ReadThisNamePlz
No, but really guys, I think this should be a Captain only type of thing, perhaps there could be a delay to it? Link to comment
Doxxmedearly
Captain-only sounds good. I like the idea of it being used as a distraction by antags, as well as perhaps making them hesitant to ALWAYS target the captain. And, it makes sense to have. A delay... I don't see a reason. Maybe a few seconds, if anything. Link to comment

BurgerBB
@BurgerBB Considering the responses from this, could you bring this up to the other developers and get this added? Don't mention me for stuff like this. The unfortunate thing with suggestion forums is that devs choose to work on projects they choose to work on, and don't take it up unless they want to take it up. GreenBoi
Uhhhh. I don't think this is a good idea. Imagine being an Antagonist and doing the brave action of taking on a Captain IN their office where you can easily be bolted down, but suddenly! Before you can fully antagonize, they activate their Press-Panic-Button macro and the AI locks you down, and you're permabrigged. Boom, round over. This is just, not needed. It's already hard enough to successfully stop a Captain or Head of Staff in their office, no need to add an extra layer especially since no one has added Radio Jammers to SyndieUplinks. Trazz666
I don't think a button pressing macro is what's stopping that antagonist. If they're free to interact with an object (in this case, the button), then that means this antagonist isn't pointing a gun or some other weapon at this captain to restrict their movements. This also means they could just very easily type ";help office" and the AI would be able to see their rank and message, and have the office in-view and bolted in 2 clicks. Not to mention the captain could always just pull their self defense pistol and defend themself. Being bad at antagonism isn't a reason to exclude a feature. Plus, even if the alarm was tripped, you still have a living captain to hold hostage. Or just murder them for flipping the switch, steal their hardsuit and bust out into space. If you don't have a backup plan and are relying on not being caught in the act, then your plan was doomed from the start. Link to comment

The problem isn't that some wouldn't plan for it. The problem is that it's an unnecessary extra security measure. We already have Medics yelling over radio once someone gets 5 brute damage, and AIs jumping to someone once they hear the word "HELP", adding this extra Panic Button would just be insult to injury. (And no, just because you turned Sensors from Tracking to Off doesn't mean some medic somewhere is going to go "Uh oh! The [HEAD OF STAFF] was at [LOCATION, PROBABLY OFFICE] with their sensors and now it's suddenly off! I think I saw them take [SMALL AMOUNT OF BRUTE DAMAGE THAT HEALS IN 5 MINUTES]!" At which point the AI jumps to the person. Link to comment
Sytic
Ninjas, mercs, heisters, wizards, (obviously malfs) and arguably revs 'n' vampires can easily make it into the Captain's Office, with a lack of problems. It's actually incredibly easy, as Heisters/Mercs can break in from the outside, while Wizards and Ninjas can do obvious teleportation shenanigans. If you're sloppily making your way into the Captain's office, you're still going to be spotted regardless if you try to do it when they're inside. Let's put this into an example! Say I decide to break into the Captain's office as Traitor mcTraitorbag. Pre the Panic Button update, I would have to do a few things to ensure I don't get shanked, mostly in regards to preventative measures towards not being spotted. Avoid AI's spotting you, try and do it while there's a distraction, and most importantly, don't do it while the Captain is in his office or he'll call for Security on the radio. Now, let's say I decide to break into the Captain's office as Traitor mcTraitorbag Pt. 2: Electric Boogaloo, post Panic Button update. I would have to do a few things to ensure I don't get shanked, mostly in regards to preventative measures towards not being spotted. Avoid AI's spotting you, try and do it while there's a distraction, and most importantly, don't do it while the Captain is in his office or he'll press his panic button. Unless your Captain is a damned mute, there is no way in Hell this update will change anything in regards to how a stealthy antagonist approaches the Captain. Instead, it'll just make it more difficult for loud antagonists to bust in from the window/try teleporting into the office and go "nothin personnel kid" before blowing away the Captain to square one issue away. It saves precious milliseconds of "GUYS THERE'S BAD SHIT GOING ON IN MY OFFICE" which seems entirely reasonable, given the current obvious advantages that going for the Captain's office first has. Juani2400
I'm in favour of this suggestion. It would actually force antagonists to elaborate a proper plan before considering to attack/kidnap/rob the person with access to all of the station, including the Vault, AI and the financial account computer. The "I need to talk to you in your office" trick is extremely old and it's a pretty vague yet very common way of antagonizing. Non only this, but it would force the antagonists to interact less with Command and more with the regular crew, because it is simply much harder to get Command. I don't mind if it's added for all heads of staff, but I say we experiment it first with the Captain's office only, and depending how that goes, implement it fully, keep it only for the Captain or remove it. Carver
I quite like this idea. The concept of ambushing a head in their office always struck me as dumb, and there's very little stopping you from shooting Captain McGee in the head if you realize he pressed the button anyways. It reinforces a very key point, don't break into a guy's office when he's in there. Stealth is encouraged in this regard and targeting the Captain in his home should be a suicidal endeavor. ComradeCorbyn
It's good to see the ideas expanded. I'm especially in favor of the ability of antagonists to hack it, sort of like a camera, and disable it silently or attach a signaler to set it off as a distraction for security. I also agree with the fact that it now prevents antagonists from pulling "could i talk to you in your office" trick a thousand times over. In hindsight, this mostly was an echo chamber of a post.
