I'm pointing out a clear hypocritical issue of people crapping on some people but not others who do worse. Again, belongs in another forum as a discussion. The application in question is regarding your character, not anybody else's. If you feel somebody is displaying poor behavior in-character, feel free to make a character complaint or an incident report, but the topic at hand is you and your character.
Ornias Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 (edited) 11 hours ago, MissNatcula said: Now Ornias I'd like to say, you should post the whole scene because you are being highly deceptive in what really happened between your character and Lin. I don't like the implication that I am trying to be dishonest. I'm not. I posted a brief snippet because I'm not trying to make this a public roast. That's not what it's about, but it was necessary to remind you of the scene and draw attention to the issues I had with it. But, seeing as you want them posted, I will oblige, so it's clear I'm not trying to mislead the public (who are, by the way, not the intended audience of this post). Georgene Harris says, "This man says he was threatened with a shotgun." Lin Dyslioth asks, "By who?" Drew Ashby folds his arms tightly to his chest, "Don't know his fucking name." Lin Dyslioth says, "Then can't help you." Drew Ashby asks, "What?" Drew Ashby asks, "The fuck does that mean?" Drew Ashby stresses, "He pointed a shotgun at me." Lin Dyslioth asks, "I can't just go and confront some one that I don't know anything about?" Lin Dyslioth says, "You JUST SAID you don't know WHO did it." Drew Ashby raises his voice, "Don't know his fucking name, you straight-" Drew Ashby says, "He was in the bar. Behind the counter. He hasn't left those fuckin' doors." Lin Dyslioth asks, "Can you point them out?" Drew Ashby rubs his face, "Yeah, I'll just walk in there with the guy who pointed a fuckin' gun at me." Drew Ashby says, "Real good fuckin' idea." Lin Dyslioth says, "He can't hurt you with me there." Drew Ashby asks, "What, are you magnetic? Will you reverse the fuckin' poles to push his god-damn shell away?" Drew Ashby says, "But you stay in front of me, right? Not taking a bullet over this shit." <-- I think that one of my messages was eaten by the logs, or didn't go through here. Lin Dyslioth says, "If you are going to be a dick, I can leave. Or we can go in there and you point him out and if they have a shot gun, I'll get them arrested for threatening with an intent to harm." Drew Ashby says, "A dick-" Drew Ashby rubs his face, "Get me another fuckin' officer, straight up." Drew Ashby shouts, "He pointed a fuckin' shotgun at me, yeah? I ain't exactly in a customer-service-ass mood, yeah?" Lin Dyslioth says, "They are all at the brig dealing with a psychopath. Drew Ashby says, "At the brig? So he's fuckin' arrested? So get someone who's not on their period down here." Lin Dyslioth shouts, "EXCUSE ME?!" I believe that the nonchalant attitude towards the situation was the issue with your character. They did not, as a security officer (maybe warden? sorry, as I said, don't have logs) take a situation seriously, and so I struggled to take the situation seriously. I do not want to turn this into a character complaint; I'm just presenting the issues that I've had. I have no vendetta against you. But I believe that if your character is quick to abandon any attempts at keeping the crew safe because an individual is objectionable, I do not believe they should be a head of staff. I believe that (particularly for a security head of staff) even if the outcome is not positive for me, there should be a degree of a serious reaction, even to those who are objectionable within realistic bounds. How would someone react to having a shotgun pointed at them? You talk in our application about desiring realistic reactions to scenarios outside of the one that's most advantageous to you or your character at the time. I believe I do this here, but you do not take the situation as the life-threatening scenario my character presented it to be. By extension, if you believe that character is fit to be head of staff, then I do not believe you have a strong enough grasp of what a head of staff entails to be one. 11 hours ago, MissNatcula said: pretty much acted nutters that the guy was going to kill you This is how normal ass people are gonna act if someone pulled a shotgun on them Edited May 1, 2019 by Ornias edited bbecause quotes are fucked for some god damn reason
Mogelix Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 +1 They're competent and eligible ICly, and competent and reasonable OOCly. The fact of the matter is, I'd rather have a flawed but well RPed character over another mysterious no personality/backstory HoS. (I think she actually has a point with the whole 'we let worse stuff happen' argument. If we allow flawed mediocre chars in, why can't we let in flawed but still good chars. Do we expect perfection from our command?) Even if you disagree with her handling of certain situations or her barely obstructive depressive backstory, she's competent and a good RPer, so at this point I think most of this stuff is just nitpicking, especially when a vast majority of experiences with her are positive for me atleast.
Seeli Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 (edited) -1 for Lin Dyslioth in command. If MissNatcula was making a new character for command, certainly. You are competent rper, a friendly person, you seem a veteran of Aurora Station, and your reasons for wanting command are fantastic. But I have concerns about your choice of Lin Dyslioth for command. While many of my interactions with her have been positive, there have also been a lot of times I have witnessed poor choices and relations with Lin. Lin Dyslioth has shown contempt, or just a lack of concern/action, for the safety and lives of crew and officers on many different occasions. Multiple times (note: NOT ALL, but on multiple occasions) Lin Dyslioth has refused security officers protective gear and weaponry when they needed it. On many of these occasions, it resulted in harm or death to the officers and crew they were trying to protect. A few times, this was subverted by a HoS stepping in to point out the need for weaponry and that they had ordered the armament of the officers once already. Lin complied, so the officers were ok, but those orders were usually met with contempt by Lin. Refusing to search suspect and leaving them in processing, which resulted in the death of the warden when that suspect was armed. Also, telling off officers for searching suspects in processing, to make sure the suspect was not left in there with a weapon. As mentioned, an incident of refusal to arm and assist officers when an antag murdered a crew member in front of her, then standing by watching while officers and civilians were murdered without sufficient provocation. And then defending said murderer (despite not being an antag herself that round). Cooperating with antags which resulted in the harm of crew and officers. This has happened a couple of times. Lin has, on a few occasions, abandoned other crew to save herself. Contempt for the regulations and procedures around loyalty implantation, cyborgification, and severity of prisoner penalties resulting in harm to crew and station, and large arguments about these situations. Refusal to cooperate with command staff, refusal to follow important orders from command staff, and regularly expressed contempt for coworkers, command, and crew. I have observed her berating others and publicly denouncing teammates who are putting their lives at risk to protect the station, while she sits in the security lobby. The few times I have seen Lin in a temporary command position, she has not shown the effective command and organisation of officers required of a HoS, often because there was so much going on, her anxiety was effecting her ability to cope. Lin Dyslioth is a very inactive warden in some rounds. To be fair, in a warden position, there is not much to do when there are no prisoners or threats, as their authority is limited to the brig. But she did this when there are active threats and then complained about the inefficiency of officers. In opposition of this, there have been times where she has armed only herself and gone out to deal with problems herself, rather than arming officers. Edited May 1, 2019 by Seeli
Pratepresidenten Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 I see many of the points made by Seeli here, and while some of them are valid concerns, the most are a character being a character. A flawed human being. Doing nothing in the face of death and helping an antag if your life is at stake is perfectly fine. Not all characters will rise up to the challenge and take on anything for the safety and protection of their crewmates. Abandoning them to save yourself is also a very reasonable thing to do. Being a smartass over security/common comms, defying command or being "Unhelpful" is something that is probably the biggest negatives that paint Lin in a bad light, but personally, I think this is fine. Not every character is a goodie two-shoes that comes running when their boss calls like an obedient little bitch. People have flaws, Lin has flaws, and these are things I appreciate. Should you choose to bump Lin to command, certain aspects of your playstyle will be "Forcibly" changed due to how the loyalty implant works, and if there are any glaring issues on how you play command with this new ticker in your brain will be spotted pretty quick. All that being said, I think you deserve a trial at the very least. I wish you the best of luck on your application, and I hope to see you on the command roster.
ReadThisNamePlz Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Hello, we're going to be giving you a trial! Please collect more feedback as the trial progresses. Trial begins MAY/01/19 Trial ends MAY/08/19 If you have any questions, pm me on discord at MiniMoose#6944
TheNewLugia Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Any time I start a round as the HoS and I see Lin as warden, I know we’re sorted. Definitely a +1 from me.
TyrannyYT Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Just played with Nat on her first HoS round. Lin kept calm and collected even while cultists were escaping and instead of valid hunting continued to try and RP with the cultists, myself included, and not divulge into just killing every cultist on sight. Still a massive +1 from me.
Jtdrow Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 +1 for me. Lin is a fun character to RP with, and I'm looking forward to seeing what she can add to the round as HoS. There was a fair bit going awry during her first round as HoS, but I think she helped pull things together so the outcome wasn't complete crap.
TheGreatNacho Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 I got to be a cult member on Lin's first HoS round. Her department managed to arrest all of us, without once breaking RP or valid hunting. It was beautiful. Completely dismantled my assumptions on all HoSs. I know I've already responded, just wanted to follow up on her trial. Definitely looking forward to seeing more Head of Security Dyslioth. Still a hard +1.
Kryostro Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 (edited) Alright boss, just gonna make this quick and snappy, Seeli and KingOfThePing are right, you as an person would be alright to play the command role. However, I personally find some issues ICly and OOCly. Here are the said issues I have with it. One thing would be OOCly, although this may or may not be something that roughly matters. But, your characters flavortext has very questionable aspects to it, which I personally have an issue with. But that does not stem forward to the rest of my response regarding why I will not recommend this character for an command position. I also genuinely do not like the response you gave to KingOfThePing, which seems extremely aggressive for someone that was simply saying that you should use another character for an whitelist. And using the excuse of there are others in command that are worse then me, so mine is fine. If I'm reading this correctly, isn't an excuse and actually makes it an worse thing to note upon. ICly, Lin is rather brash, and as Seeli said, and I quote. "--Lin Dyslioth has refused security officers protective gear and weaponry when they needed it. On many of these occasions, it resulted in harm or death to the officers and crew they were trying to protect. A few times, this was subverted by a HoS stepping in to point out the need for weaponry and that they had ordered the armament of the officers once already. Lin complied, so the officers were ok, but those orders were usually met with contempt by Lin." This also stems into an issue where you said during your initial wording for the whitelist. "--I also highly enjoy rping emotions. A lot of people I find are quite flat. I like to rp shock after experiencing heavily traumatic experiences. If my character is dealing with personal issues she may stray from her daily routine and in whole making her appear real. A lot of people disagree with this and don't like when my character drops her job and breaks down in tears after watching all of sec get wiped out by mercs but how can you say thats not what would really happen? We are playing people, not robots. A show of emotion really makes a scene more believable. I'm here to entertain some ghosts with A grade acting with spots of badassery when the time calls for it." I have nothing wrong with this, hell I play Shane Castralo, someone who is an absolute idiot and can't think for his mind, and he pisses his pants if he sees someone with a gun come after him. At the end of the day, he's still just an immature kid who thinks in the moment and not in the future. That's how he's designed. Now, let's put that in the context of your character, an character which has as stated before by previous other people, displayed incompetence in certain situations such as berating teammates and overall not expanding on moral of an highly intense and stressful situation. And aswell as the character having the unfortunate happening of anxiety, to where they can't cope and they can't deal with situations. And I for one wouldn't be happy if I was playing my security officer, which I won't name for the purposes of ermaghed metagrudging and saw the HOS crying in the corner after a few people in their department died. NanoTrasen is an cold company that only cares about money, they would promote someone that would have the point of view where they'd think they have their best interests in mind and ensuring security works to great extents to secure their interests. Fairly unlikely they would elect someone that would have anxiety and such like that, although I can't put my finger down if this was shown canonly or not with the situations that would probably prove that they wouldn't have this person elected as to have full control over security. But I'll digress and extend this further below for the aspect of not making this look sloppy. Her 'suicidal' and 'mental break downs' come from antag rounds. Which are not canon. When she does once and awhile show signs of her depression from lack of regular meds being taken or not having gotten to talk to some one for a long time they are mild. She is not as talkative, withdraw, but in the end she does her job. If you knew anything about my character you'd also know she is fiercely dedicated to NT and the law as well and no matter her 'mental state' she upholds it. Yes, NT would dismiss an HoS that would have depression that makes them have suicidal or mental break downs when they are in charge of an security department. At this point I believe personally that this stems less from IC to an OOC issue, and that it wouldn't be pleasant to be a captain and try to talk to your HoS to get your guards armed and they're crying about how the detective died from the cultists. With an loyalty implant, they probably wouldn't behave this way. Although personally I don't have any whitelists and for good reason, and people who have developed more on the lore could probably take something better out of this then I did. Anyway boss, I may or may not be wrong in some of my reasoning. But in short, I believe you really should use a different character if you get an command whitelist, or atleast clear up their behavior. I also like your flavortext and it encouraged me to write more about one of my EMT characters, albeit not the.. certain parts. But that's off-topic. I also tend to not really be good at writing up complaints, so make sure to point out anything that isn't correct in my complaint so I don't bite you down on something that was wrong. -1 Edited May 4, 2019 by Kryostro
AmoryBlaine Posted May 5, 2019 Posted May 5, 2019 Support this entirely. Natcula is probably one of the best players in Security that is around regularly. Character has a lot of personality. It's reasonable progression for them to reach Command status. I've only been in a single round with her so far, as HoS, but it was quite enjoyable. No issues with equipment, breakdowns, ect- as one would expect, they are doing well as HoS. +1
Shadow7889 Posted May 5, 2019 Posted May 5, 2019 Stop being good at HoS. You're making the rest of us look bad. +1. Keep up the good work.
Juani2400 Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Hello. After review and discussion, we've decided to pass your trial. We have not been made aware of any problems with your character, other than what has been said here. And from the comments here, it seems to be just the way you play the character, with no significant conditioning reasons not to be a head of staff. If there are any concerns that the rest of the players wish to treat in regard to how the applicant plays their character, I invite them to open a character report. For what occupies us, which is reviewing the player's ability to roleplay as a Head of Staff and act in accordance to what is required from a player with a Command whitelist, there are no concerns from our side. If you wish to bring up one in regards to that, you may contact either me, or any other Command Whitelist staff member privately. Congratulations!
