1. Trial period begins at 25.7.2018 of my time and ends at 1.8.2018. For clarification, when a head of staff applicant is in Trial it means we encourage more feedback on their application but this time from actually BEING with them and seeing what they are like.
2. Also if you want to use your hostage as a meat-shield in getting from point A to point B, remember to pre-plan your course. Going through that 1 tile wide hallway may not be the best idea while you're holding a second person, I've had multiple merc rounds end with mercenaries getting too tied up with hostages in maint and getting caught with their panties down.
3. But why? I mean why the stat-losses? The cigarette implementation of text holding your hand and telling you what your character feels was receive well enough why not just continue with that? "My legs are tired" "I'm hungry" "This food tasted terrible" "It's too spicy" "This chair is uncomfortable" "I hurt myself today to see if I still feel" Putting flat stats and numbers on such mundane actions reduces characters from characters and turns them into a generic basis/stereotype. A huge part of playing pretend is going along with what is happening. This won't really ADD options, it'll just detract options from the people who already loved to do these things as they'll be streamlined into linear paths and force the people who never broke the rules but didn't care about comfort that much into having to "powergame" comfort. Also consider antags, wizard, ninja, mercenaries, raiders, I mean will we see mercenaries having hostage situations with police officers in comfy chairs? I don't mind the idea of nudging people in what you consider the right direction, however forcing people in the right direction is an issue in my book. Just like we don't force tajara to take off their clothes when heat messages start popping, we leave it up to the players to decide how comfortable their character is. To use the cigs again, do consider they DO cause organ damage but people STILL smoke them even if they provide no benefit outside of the messages. To re-iterate, I am not against nudging people in the right direction. I am against forcing people to take a path you think is correct. Because if we're on this, we might aswell force people to break their fingers when they try to make a spear-head by bending iron with their bare hands.
4. Now we all know those borgs that exist, you now the ones. That weird long-armed one which plagues about 4 departments but nobody uses, the weird egg-janitor bot or maybe the weird cubic bar robot. Well fear no more for there are legitimate solutions, importing actually robots that are made with the SS13 style in mind. PoZe is already working on turning the reddies into blues. However since there have also been concerned cries of: "But the inconsistency!" "But the style!" "But the ripping from open source games which we have done many times before and quite few our our updates consist of just us taking a system from another codebase and importing it into ours!" But I'm a good guy, I know our developers work hard and play hard so I don't want to burden them with having to create entire new sprites from scratch based on the pre-existing styles or re-spriting the already existing ones. I'd say we can use this thread to compile the "inconsistent" borg sprites and maybe as a community work on improving them and giving them a general theme so they fit together like fried butter and sausage-bacon wraps. I mean does anyone even USE this freaky thing? I know it's in a few departments but it has absolutely zero difference and minimal color variance so nobody can tell what borg it is.
5. Alright P-Dog, I'll let you gather more feedback and trust me I will hold you by the word on this in the future. Remember, while sometimes it may not seem like it we try to keep around heads to lead as an example, be it IC or OOC behaviour.
6. Paradox I have a question, maybe a few we'll see how this goes. Now you're eeeeh conflicting, very much so and ditto about your characters they tend to be on the subversive, rebelious and law-non-abiding side. You are a capable roleplay but you can quite literally explode when things get bad both OOC and in IC which makes me give a big think about giving you this application, the question is and answer honestly now, no empty promises to make me hear what I want to hear. Do you think you would be able to curb your behaviour to more acceptable levels in the future or do you not see that happening?
7. Excuse the delay, it seems that the moderator that banned you actually quit yesterday. We'll get to this thread shortly, we promise.
8. Matt is an adult and my equal now, he can discern what he wants. Yes I have confirmed that you did your job poorly, the fact I have revelead your entire outlook on the role is all wrong happens to be something I did not expect to see. We have decided to talk to the warden before this complaint was raised, precisely right after I informed staff of your PM, they will be talkted to. Excuses nothing you did. If you want proof contact a headmin, I don't want to post moderator discussion logs in here.
9. Exaggarating my posts, making assumptions and misinterpreting everything I say on purpose to try and draw assumptions that I am forcing you to metagame is disgusting. That wasn't my question, re-read the previous post and answer it. I asked why she could not stay there and keep the people there. I asked why you simply didn't order them and continue with your responsibilities. HoP can grant emergency access to anyone if required, including himself. Weapons were handed out by the warden after severe convincing by security staff, you yourself have sent me a screenshot where security officers are screaming at the warden that if he had opened armory sooner the situation would have been resolved faster. No you didn't, read the wiki. I checked all of your notes, you have no notes or warnings for the actions you have described. However you have multiple warnings and notes over doing something completely outside of your role just to fuck around and make an OOC joke including innapropriate announcements, breaking into departments to cook eggs, giving yourself all access to get to said eggs. Majorly all of your controversial actions were done for the sake of OOC humor, I am very sure this one was too no matter how much you try to play up "bunkering". Neither, I want you to play a Head of Personnel: https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Head_of_Personnel Yes, the CE indeed confirmed that you didn't do anything and he had to handle the entire round by himself, two departments one of which doesn't even fall under his jurisdictoin. Nobody said that, read the wiki. I asked you to do your job, your job is to delegate department not equip militia. I even bolded the parts which described what job you were supposed to be doing but I guess I'll have to capitalize the letters next time too. Yes this is very valid here. I believe you are telling me that I should have handed out all access to the civilians, gave them rifles from the armory, and promoted a command member to each department, taking acting captain-hood for myself, and bravely overseeing a stunning military operation to secure the station. Baseless assumption, disregarded. Your own personal interpretation of what the HoP is, appears to be incorrect. Ditto.
10. She was not trusted, it's why you titled her "HoP deputy"? " a person who is given the power to do something instead of another person, or the person whose rank is immediately below that of the leader of an organization: " But I won't be anal about it and consider that perhaps you simply failed to find the "correct" term at the time and gave "deputy" as a quick thinking thing. Even then how was she incapable of holding 6 people in one room by entertaining them? The people stayed there because they had a good time, not because you ordered them to have a good time. They could have had a good time without you, sure maybe not AS much of a good time but still a good time. Your presence was not required, it was required elsewhere. You might think of yourself as useless but a head of personnel is one of the most useful heads in such a critical round, doubly so when access to the AI is involved. I apologise, I wrote that part wrong. Due to the nature of my work I usually only have time to respond in longer posts near or after midnight. "Futher your character considered the situation dire enough to grant emergency all-access to all of the station" is the one I assume you mean, what I meant by that was: "Your character considered the situation dire enough to want to grant emergency all access of the station, to the CE" Understandable, however doing the bare minimum of your work as an HoP, I.E opening the armory, opening doors to the bridge during the malf AI or granting officers extra access to the bridge, raising alert level or trying to swipe for ERT were non-violent actions. Then WHY is he a HoP? Because what you're saying here is that Jawdat isn't confident enough to do his own job properly, if you are not capable of doing something, you promote people who are. I.E the deputy. To quote the wiki, once again. You did not "stay in your lane", the equivalent of what you did is balancing on two tires at the edge of your lane leaving the rest of the lane empty, putting in the question why you were assigned an entire lane in the first place. Look I'm not trying to crucify you for what you did, but I have repeatedly quoted the wiki on what exactly your job is and you indeed have failed to meet the standards expected of a head of personnel, while it is admirable to have a character that knows less than more you have to understand that there is a time and place for mucking about. The six people had fun, but there were enough ahelps arriving to say that other people have found your actions either as unfun, unfair or immersion breaking and you have to pay attention to these people. I sincerely apologise if I came off as agressive or wanting to call you out or some such things, I do not want to see players be paraded around as examples of bad play. However from my position you have neglected your job to the point where it calls into question why your character in in the HoP position in the first place, this is where it becomes an OOC and an administrative issue.
11. Hold on partner, you just took off your wig there. You chose to stay, why? Did you not trust that the six adults could keep themselves entertained enough to not run away? Did you not trust your deputy who had until now done everything you asked for to keep the people there and make proper decisions? Did you think the crew would explode without you there? Was your character being a coward? Then we go deeper. " The ce declined to be acting captain but coordinated with security anyway." Se security and engineering were coordinating and it must have been successful as both blob and Malf AI were taken care of at the end, thus this raises the question of why your character was just so unable to communicate or delegate? Futher your character considered the situation dire enough to grant emergency all-access to all of the station, however upon refusal never thought to pick it up himself? (This is understandable, characters can be reluctant to get more responsibilities then they already have). And here is the nailgun to the unibrow, "I was not asked to appoint a hos or acting captain. My goal was to keep nonessential crew safe and occupied." "I was not asked to appoint a hos or acting captain" Correct, you were not asked to do your job. In short I have now realized that in the end synth did not warn you for NOT doing something. He has warned you for CHOSING to DO the one thing that lead to nothing. Lastly I aknowledge the evacuation as a good move, however again that could have been done by underlings. Opinion piece: It is very easy to staple intent to actions after said actions have been done.
12. Got lunch break and let me clear a few things: One, to be anal there are crewmembers to keep morale which concidentally belong in your department. You have to keep in mind you are a VERY critical role being able to assign anyone anywhere in an emergency, staying in maint to keep eye on 5 adults and acting like a hospital clown while admirable is not good use of time. Further note the warning came BEFORE you organised the evacuation thus it's not relevant to that. Two, yes you can get punished for NOT doing things when those things are IN your job description. To quote, Appropriate behaviour would be making sure everyone in the room is okay, moving your t-pose into the HoP office, raising alert status to blue or red if possible, calling ERT if possible, faxing central if possible or directly ordering the warden to open the armory OR if it is required, emergency access to open said armory same with emergency access into EVA OR into the blobs location. HoP has overall more responsibilities than your average head, being responsible for ALL personnel. To quote the wiki again, In short, raising alarms, opening doors, granting access and informing central is in your bounds of responsibilities. Three, let's be honest the reason you were ahelped at minimum of 3 times by multiple people was because of the meymey behaviour during the "sinking of the titanic". The improv night as I was informed was basically you introducing your and your sons rap album once again and freestyle rapping while people screamed in pain over radio. Thematically it was like ripping a fart at a funeral Note: I am not responsible for this complaint, Matt is, I simply thought it appropriate to use some of my time to clarify some things.
13. Correct people are not likely to break rules, however people are more likey to give less effort into roleplay if the character that they are is literally a cardboard cutout designed to die in the most violent way possible. Wizard, Ninja, Mercenaries, Raiders all these roles start as complete randoes and usually act like gung-ho maniacs, nothing about this "Opens new and interesting ways," it's just lazily shoving literally nobodies on the station to cause meaningless chaos for some arbitrary reason OR absolutely no reason at all. I admit, I wrote that one like a dickhead I didn't mean "You" as in "You personally not megatron", I mostly meant majority of people who replied in the thread at the time. Might or might not include you but my labeling wasn't to put you on the spot and I apologise. Oh and to reply, make a character that is like that then Yes, re-occuring antag rounds are immersion breaking correct. But tell me, is it reallly any more immersion breaking than 5 completely random names appearing out of nowhere? If anything your suggestion is going to breed paranoia not for a SINGLE person but for an ENTIRE GROUP of people, new players. New players start with barebones, not-up-to-snuff characters who you have never seen before and have a somewhat randomized but by the template apperance. Do you see the problem? New players is the last group we want to vilify. "The crewmembers that mysteriously arrive at round start," mate that's half the crew, there is plenty of people who literally wait until the round starts to see what roles are available to fill. After every round there is a big influx of new players. And from borgs we know that selecting template characters doesn't have to involve pausing the entire round-start. Read the wiki then, you have factions there it's not hard. A lot of this seems like laziness. Well one plenty of people say we shouldn't have mercs because of the people that don't, hell Burger made a suggestion like a month ago to whitelist all special antag roles because of the people that don't. Two, if that's how RP goes for a beloved friend going haywire than I am afraid the server is in the shitter. Three, low-effort begets low-effort and the fact is it is easy to create a mercenary coolguy because guess what, he doesn't have to spend majority of his time INSIDE the station TALKING to people! This is why those characters would crumble! It would be extremely easy to spot an unfinished rando with a haphazardly constructed backstory! And hell if people are CHOOSING to play complete randos to antag with I doubt they want to put much effort into the game anyways, if they did they'd just make characters with backstorise that allow antag play instead of boring normality. Doesn't the suggestion to make it another gamemode altogether kinda deconstruct your argument that it's better meta-protected than chosing a specific character from your selection? It would be extremely easy to spot 5 randoes when I vote for "Rando antags" gamemode. Lastly I just realized, this won't even work! Traitor is the most voted gamemode yes, but AUTO-TRAITOR ! Not traitor! This entire system won't work with auto-traitor! People can read the wiki and do that themselves, if it's just a completely vague inspiration like that.
14. As suggested by Skull, yes it sounds acceptable however I'd probably reduce the cost to 10 or 8 TC as that already disables any effective shootings sprees and instead encourages anonymous fuckery.
15. The issue still lies within the very lowRP potential, again this system seems to be made FOR traitor players but not FROM traitor players. Nobody is going to miss a rando dying, the same applies for the player playing that rando, they're going to be bombers, mass shooters and butchers something people ahelp quite a lot when it happens as it's hard to RP with a cardboard cut-out you were assigned 5 minutes into the round. If the character assigned is given no effort, the player is not going to put effort into it either, as we can see in Mercenary/Raider where the "muh low RP" complaint comes in very often and imagine those type of 5 minute characters having to survive in a 2 hour long round with people who put literal MONTHS into their own characters. No, this goes fundamentally against what traitor is. Traitor is supposed to evoke paranoia as you cannot trust your co-workers who have been with you for entire years. This is going to elevate that frustration partially or even fully. Further factions would do absolutely nothing besides providing an objective for people to bilndly complete to get greentext, imagine a traitor who just steals the teleporter and doesn't do anything ever again. Or just randomly runs into your department from maint and shoots your ass up without a word because you happened to be the objective. Sure two or three objectives that force you to kidnapp someone and break their limbs, but really does that single potentially good objective justify anything?
16. Skull had a much, MUCH better suggestion in the discord. A) DIsguise kits to change your characters apperance. B) Have a menu pop-up before the round starts that asks you if you want to play a different character.
17. HRP takes effort, it's not easy and everyone has to put in effort to make it enjoyable. Go roll traitor, go make a character that has a reason to be a traitor, go make a character who wants to stick it to the man, who is unhinged, who is absolutely mental. I mean what stops you? "I would have to think of a new backstory", well wouldn't you anyways even if you were assigned a rando? "I'd have to think of a reason to do it", well wouldn't you anyways if you were assigned a rando? "I'd have to start making relationships all over again", well wouldn't you anyways if you were assigned a rando? These new traitors aren't going to take you hostage, they're going to blow your head off in maint. These new traitors aren't going to re-consider their plot as you give them your heartwarming speech, they'll shove a shotgun in your mouth. These new traitors aren't going to plan how to avoid capture only to make a slip-up and get caught by the long arm of the law, they're going to call you a retard and explode 5 minutes into the round as you're discussing if vests on green are valid. To summarize, this is a mechanic that seems more like "You use it, I don't play traitor" mechanic. Something for everyone else but you and your character so you have easy targets to plink away at who (in the hopes of creating mass destruction) include you in their RP just from the amount of ruckus they cause. Thus, a no, this is just as dumb as giving people objectives, you want better traitors? Become one.
18. I think the arc was excellent, while the initial mistake of apartments being closed down and where the murder actually happened was a BIG mistake, it wasn't something that you couldn't repair later. People got into it I like that, both as characters and as players, conducting IC and OOC investigations, debates and charades around it, hell even the first few rounds went great. But man oh man of course it falls apart at the end, just as the noose was getting tighter someone has to play a big action hero, basically throwing a month of investigation into the air to jump the gun and "get the big mean killer" by causing a mistrial. Now this wouldn't be so bad for me if he wasn't honored with the end by getting a big hero moment of shooting the bad guy instead of being ridiculed like he should have. Otherwise it was good.
19. ToasterRobo still has patches in his roleplay areas that could be fixed and is not my ideal type of player, however I can't say I don't value him and his opinions. Currently he was one of the very, very, very, VERY few people who actually outstretched his hand and offered some feedback on his own volition instead of being dragged begging and screaming into giving me his opinion and I can respect someone who isn't afraid to not only present his opinion in a polite way but also for that opinion to be worth something instead of being a handful of long-winded compliments. But even as I write this I recognize my ability to judge him as a player PROPERLY is limited as my activity has been rather limited recently and so I'll put a (I don't play that much) disclaimer on this feedback.
20. I remember Riqpley being a terrible, shitty validhunter with absolutely no grasp of roleplay who spent most of his days playing a M'sai to speed his ass as close to the target to shotgun their head off. So I'm glad that Riqpley turned around 100% and became a quality player who doesn't make me do a 360 and moonwalk away when he joins. The story itself is fine, nothing special but hey we can't all be the next Atlas Shrugged. I support this.
21. So if I'm to understand this correctly you with at the core that dionaea remain confidential and un-specified? Doesn't that breach into character creation a bit? Really not a lot of Dionaea have even described HOW they got into the education system or how the education system even regards them. What steps do you think could be taken to increase both popularity among new arrivals while at the same time not offending old players?
22. The intent of the lightbulb is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for fixing it.
23. We could fix it instead, maybe change it so that only sprinting procs the slipping. I did see multiple instances of people slipping right into the clutches of the antag while they were shootrunning away. At the same time my best memory of an alien round is being cornered into a 1 tile wide hallway, standing at a door as the xenomorph rushed towards me, slipping on oil, falling on his face and allowing me to run past him. All around I don't think we should curb an entire mechanic because of a single antag but instead make them compatible, it's an extremely small feature and I'd argue one of the most hillarious ones. And who can forget their favorite scene in the new alien where that one lady slips on some blood and fucks up everything.
24. There was only one requirement on your previous unban. Denied, if you post in this subforum again before: The Third of August, Two Thousand Eighteen, you will be banned from the forum.
