Got lunch break and let me clear a few things: One, to be anal there are crewmembers to keep morale which concidentally belong in your department. You have to keep in mind you are a VERY critical role being able to assign anyone anywhere in an emergency, staying in maint to keep eye on 5 adults and acting like a hospital clown while admirable is not good use of time. Further note the warning came BEFORE you organised the evacuation thus it's not relevant to that. Two, yes you can get punished for NOT doing things when those things are IN your job description. To quote, Appropriate behaviour would be making sure everyone in the room is okay, moving your t-pose into the HoP office, raising alert status to blue or red if possible, calling ERT if possible, faxing central if possible or directly ordering the warden to open the armory OR if it is required, emergency access to open said armory same with emergency access into EVA OR into the blobs location. HoP has overall more responsibilities than your average head, being responsible for ALL personnel. To quote the wiki again, In short, raising alarms, opening doors, granting access and informing central is in your bounds of responsibilities. Three, let's be honest the reason you were ahelped at minimum of 3 times by multiple people was because of the meymey behaviour during the "sinking of the titanic". The improv night as I was informed was basically you introducing your and your sons rap album once again and freestyle rapping while people screamed in pain over radio. Thematically it was like ripping a fart at a funeral Note: I am not responsible for this complaint, Matt is, I simply thought it appropriate to use some of my time to clarify some things.

Correct people are not likely to break rules, however people are more likey to give less effort into roleplay if the character that they are is literally a cardboard cutout designed to die in the most violent way possible. Wizard, Ninja, Mercenaries, Raiders all these roles start as complete randoes and usually act like gung-ho maniacs, nothing about this "Opens new and interesting ways," it's just lazily shoving literally nobodies on the station to cause meaningless chaos for some arbitrary reason OR absolutely no reason at all. I admit, I wrote that one like a dickhead I didn't mean "You" as in "You personally not megatron", I mostly meant majority of people who replied in the thread at the time. Might or might not include you but my labeling wasn't to put you on the spot and I apologise. Oh and to reply, make a character that is like that then Yes, re-occuring antag rounds are immersion breaking correct. But tell me, is it reallly any more immersion breaking than 5 completely random names appearing out of nowhere? If anything your suggestion is going to breed paranoia not for a SINGLE person but for an ENTIRE GROUP of people, new players. New players start with barebones, not-up-to-snuff characters who you have never seen before and have a somewhat randomized but by the template apperance. Do you see the problem? New players is the last group we want to vilify. "The crewmembers that mysteriously arrive at round start," mate that's half the crew, there is plenty of people who literally wait until the round starts to see what roles are available to fill. After every round there is a big influx of new players. And from borgs we know that selecting template characters doesn't have to involve pausing the entire round-start. Read the wiki then, you have factions there it's not hard. A lot of this seems like laziness. Well one plenty of people say we shouldn't have mercs because of the people that don't, hell Burger made a suggestion like a month ago to whitelist all special antag roles because of the people that don't. Two, if that's how RP goes for a beloved friend going haywire than I am afraid the server is in the shitter. Three, low-effort begets low-effort and the fact is it is easy to create a mercenary coolguy because guess what, he doesn't have to spend majority of his time INSIDE the station TALKING to people! This is why those characters would crumble! It would be extremely easy to spot an unfinished rando with a haphazardly constructed backstory! And hell if people are CHOOSING to play complete randos to antag with I doubt they want to put much effort into the game anyways, if they did they'd just make characters with backstorise that allow antag play instead of boring normality. Doesn't the suggestion to make it another gamemode altogether kinda deconstruct your argument that it's better meta-protected than chosing a specific character from your selection? It would be extremely easy to spot 5 randoes when I vote for "Rando antags" gamemode. Lastly I just realized, this won't even work! Traitor is the most voted gamemode yes, but AUTO-TRAITOR ! Not traitor! This entire system won't work with auto-traitor! People can read the wiki and do that themselves, if it's just a completely vague inspiration like that.
-
As suggested by Skull, yes it sounds acceptable however I'd probably reduce the cost to 10 or 8 TC as that already disables any effective shootings sprees and instead encourages anonymous fuckery.
-
The issue still lies within the very lowRP potential, again this system seems to be made FOR traitor players but not FROM traitor players. Nobody is going to miss a rando dying, the same applies for the player playing that rando, they're going to be bombers, mass shooters and butchers something people ahelp quite a lot when it happens as it's hard to RP with a cardboard cut-out you were assigned 5 minutes into the round. If the character assigned is given no effort, the player is not going to put effort into it either, as we can see in Mercenary/Raider where the "muh low RP" complaint comes in very often and imagine those type of 5 minute characters having to survive in a 2 hour long round with people who put literal MONTHS into their own characters. No, this goes fundamentally against what traitor is. Traitor is supposed to evoke paranoia as you cannot trust your co-workers who have been with you for entire years. This is going to elevate that frustration partially or even fully. Further factions would do absolutely nothing besides providing an objective for people to bilndly complete to get greentext, imagine a traitor who just steals the teleporter and doesn't do anything ever again. Or just randomly runs into your department from maint and shoots your ass up without a word because you happened to be the objective. Sure two or three objectives that force you to kidnapp someone and break their limbs, but really does that single potentially good objective justify anything?
-
Skull had a much, MUCH better suggestion in the discord. A) DIsguise kits to change your characters apperance. B) Have a menu pop-up before the round starts that asks you if you want to play a different character.
-
HRP takes effort, it's not easy and everyone has to put in effort to make it enjoyable. Go roll traitor, go make a character that has a reason to be a traitor, go make a character who wants to stick it to the man, who is unhinged, who is absolutely mental. I mean what stops you? "I would have to think of a new backstory", well wouldn't you anyways even if you were assigned a rando? "I'd have to think of a reason to do it", well wouldn't you anyways if you were assigned a rando? "I'd have to start making relationships all over again", well wouldn't you anyways if you were assigned a rando? These new traitors aren't going to take you hostage, they're going to blow your head off in maint. These new traitors aren't going to re-consider their plot as you give them your heartwarming speech, they'll shove a shotgun in your mouth. These new traitors aren't going to plan how to avoid capture only to make a slip-up and get caught by the long arm of the law, they're going to call you a retard and explode 5 minutes into the round as you're discussing if vests on green are valid. To summarize, this is a mechanic that seems more like "You use it, I don't play traitor" mechanic. Something for everyone else but you and your character so you have easy targets to plink away at who (in the hopes of creating mass destruction) include you in their RP just from the amount of ruckus they cause. Thus, a no, this is just as dumb as giving people objectives, you want better traitors? Become one.

I think the arc was excellent, while the initial mistake of apartments being closed down and where the murder actually happened was a BIG mistake, it wasn't something that you couldn't repair later. People got into it I like that, both as characters and as players, conducting IC and OOC investigations, debates and charades around it, hell even the first few rounds went great. But man oh man of course it falls apart at the end, just as the noose was getting tighter someone has to play a big action hero, basically throwing a month of investigation into the air to jump the gun and "get the big mean killer" by causing a mistrial. Now this wouldn't be so bad for me if he wasn't honored with the end by getting a big hero moment of shooting the bad guy instead of being ridiculed like he should have. Otherwise it was good.

[Denied] ToasterRoboto's CCIA application
Coalf replied to ToasterRoboto's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
ToasterRobo still has patches in his roleplay areas that could be fixed and is not my ideal type of player, however I can't say I don't value him and his opinions. Currently he was one of the very, very, very, VERY few people who actually outstretched his hand and offered some feedback on his own volition instead of being dragged begging and screaming into giving me his opinion and I can respect someone who isn't afraid to not only present his opinion in a polite way but also for that opinion to be worth something instead of being a handful of long-winded compliments. But even as I write this I recognize my ability to judge him as a player PROPERLY is limited as my activity has been rather limited recently and so I'll put a (I don't play that much) disclaimer on this feedback. -
[ACCEPTED] Riqpley_Dagasd's Diona app
Coalf replied to Lonely Caravan's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I remember Riqpley being a terrible, shitty validhunter with absolutely no grasp of roleplay who spent most of his days playing a M'sai to speed his ass as close to the target to shotgun their head off. So I'm glad that Riqpley turned around 100% and became a quality player who doesn't make me do a 360 and moonwalk away when he joins. The story itself is fine, nothing special but hey we can't all be the next Atlas Shrugged. I support this. -
So if I'm to understand this correctly you with at the core that dionaea remain confidential and un-specified? Doesn't that breach into character creation a bit? Really not a lot of Dionaea have even described HOW they got into the education system or how the education system even regards them. What steps do you think could be taken to increase both popularity among new arrivals while at the same time not offending old players?
-
The intent of the lightbulb is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for fixing it.
-
We could fix it instead, maybe change it so that only sprinting procs the slipping. I did see multiple instances of people slipping right into the clutches of the antag while they were shootrunning away. At the same time my best memory of an alien round is being cornered into a 1 tile wide hallway, standing at a door as the xenomorph rushed towards me, slipping on oil, falling on his face and allowing me to run past him. All around I don't think we should curb an entire mechanic because of a single antag but instead make them compatible, it's an extremely small feature and I'd argue one of the most hillarious ones. And who can forget their favorite scene in the new alien where that one lady slips on some blood and fucks up everything.

There was only one requirement on your previous unban. Denied, if you post in this subforum again before: The Third of August, Two Thousand Eighteen, you will be banned from the forum.
-
Over your time here you have connected 10 times as two different characters. You have 9 notes, 3 of which are bans. You have a character which is dark skinned and speaks in "ghetto talk" who has been charged over 4 times when he has connected 3 times. The first words to come out of your mouth were "I didn't break any rules, get off of my back". When I finally spoonfed you the correct rule your only explanation was "I want to amass a small robot army" and "That's the extent of it" I gave more effort into typing up this response than you gave into trying to actually stay on the server and play correctly. Denied.

I think Burger is mostly adressing the non-canon events which happen, those tend to be a lot more agressive nad gun-ho. Although I would appreciate feedback on canon events, I got great feedback from ToasterRobo on discord about my previous event.

Plural, refered to the previous posts before Scheveningen's. You are not hammering it into it's old spot. You are just making it a worse pepper spray. After a bit of wondering this legitimately seems like a further NERF to the flash, not only do you plan to remove the strongest and most unique thing the flash has going for it, which is the completely screen white-out. You plan to add effects which the pepper spray not only already has but has them last much longer and ACTUALLY STUNS PEOPLE. Also if the AOE effect would just be the curret effects but weaker then it's just going to be straight up not worth wasting a belt slot on.
-
What I said is, pepper spray fills the place of flash 100%, it's useless to revert it in any way. Currently flash is an anti-borg tool and a crowd distruption tool as when you activate it in your hand you blind everyone who is currently on your screen. It's purpose changed and people need to learn that instead of trying to forcefully hammer it into the old spot.
-
So what exactly does this do? I mean, let's review. Add an actual battery charge to flashes. Battery charge determines how many times a flash can be used before the flash needs to be recharged. Pepper spray has limited shots. The bulb of a flash can still burn out if used too frequently. Pepper spray can't burn out. Add different variants of flashes researchable by R&D. Pepper sprays don't rely on R&D Causes temporary blindness for 2 seconds. Pepper spray Causes blurry eyes for 10 seconds. Pepper spray Causes disorientation (chance to move in a different direction) for 2 seconds. This is new Causes slow (movedelay increase) for 2 seconds. Pepper spray Causes clumsiness (current method of clumsiness will need to be reworked, easy to do) for 2 seconds. This is new. The flash will have the whole one advantage of being able to stun borgs, which it does now, still. In short this'll become a mediocre pepper spray. To further hammer in the point the teargas grenades do everything above AND cause halloss, making it impossible for anyone to run off.

Sol Ban Continues, Refugees Flood Tau Ceti The decision of Sol Alliance to ban Tajara immigration still sends shockwaves out to the known space, most recently aboard the NSS Aurora. On the 28th of June a shuttle registered to a human fabric trader named Mirvan Spietzstein had entered the space near the Romanovich Cloud, passing all security checks and identification marks it was on its way out of the system when an unknown shuttle was suddenly detached from the space freighter and began heading straight for the Nanotrasen Research Station, Aurora. “We always begin with a scan before we send out any drones and it paid off in this case,” comments drone operator Joshua Spitzrite. Indeed as the unknown shuttle wasn’t a bomb but in fact an auto-piloted shuttle housing 6 Tajara refugees, three men, two women and one underage teen. One of the male Tajara was found dead on arrival, having suffocated due to the lack of oxygen. The NSS Aurora and its crew had done their best to accommodate, treat and properly log all of the Tajara refugees even if it does not fare with standard protocol. Later the rogue shuttle was seen violently ejecting from the landing port and crashing into a nearby asteroid, this time empty. However drama had ensued as one of the Tajara, identified as Ameer Al-Sesay, discharged multiple shots from his illegally acquired handgun which he had hidden in an unknown storage area on his body. Names of the officers in-charge during that crisis are being withheld for privacy and safety reasons however Nanotrasen officials have assured us appropriate actions would be taken. The victim of the shootout, Evangeline Du Dancion, stated; “I am not angry about getting shot, accidentally. I even sympathize with the man…” Miss Evangeline Du Dancion was a Chief Engineer aboard the NSS Aurora, at the time tasked with building a temporary shelter for the refugees. Further she added, ”…I’d probably reach for my gun as well.” However slip-ups like these are multiplying in number as Tau Ceti officials struggle to process refugees which now rush to Tau Ceti, their entrance to Sol being refused, the authorities of Mars had reported similar issues. But we remain positive as more and more refugees are being accepted into our system and showered with love, understanding and technology which they most likely never dreamt of. One of these being the 17 year old Koskov Al-Sesay, an aspiring computer wizard and a nephew of the shooter, "Koskov feels, this might be better than his families intended destination of Detroit ... There is so much more here for a Tajara than he hears of Sol, and he sees people that are like him! The people are so kind, they fixed his families wounds, and he was given compassion ... He wants to make this his home ..." The government of Sol refuses to comment on the current immigration issues. PLAY: Khaled Al-Bastaki adressing yesterdays crisis.

I will agree on mechanical traits towards things that cannot be simulated by in-game roleplaying. I.e. flat damage reductions, hastened bleeding, metabolism as these things are basically held down by the game code and no matter how much I pretend I can't really bleed faster. HOWEVER, other things such as inaccuracy, wimpiness, slowness, etc etc. CAN be easily simulated by the player and in my eyes it's an important test of self-restraint, are you a bad enough dude to NOT click directly on the antag because it's not something your character could do? Further I'd remove specific percentages from being mentioned, vagueness prevents people from picking traits just so they can get a quick ticket to medical whilst knowing the exact number to keep it easily managed and not a problem at all.

Appeal Accepted.
-
Hello, welcome back and I'm glad you took the suggestion to appeal and had some time to think on it as I suggested. The issue wasn't really the fact you didn't KNOW the rules, it was that you CHOSE to disobey them as you were banned for something you did TWICE before, i.e self-antagging and starting needles manhunts. I am willing to appeal this ban and I will appeal it (Later in the day not on my computer right now) However you must understand that if you break the SAME rules in an IDENTICAL manner, I'll skip the noting proces and simply remove you again. Will accept appeal once I get home.
-
Veni Vidi Vici. We've discussed this and found absolutely no reason to not accept this. Ergo accepted.
-
Yep, sounds fine.

Dang, left that point in there, thought about deleting it. Glad you pointed it out the single thing that you could defend yourself against and accepted the rest of the feedback as correct.
