There have been several instances in which you've acted the opposite of what you promised. The last and most significant one is our interaction on the medical server. You said this: the issue isn't that you're nerfing things lmao it's that you're nerfing the wrong things in the wrong way, too much or too little you're taking a hammer to anything that moves instead of applying the slightest bit of critical thinking I call it the Burger Method I'm not sure I need to explain how unneeded this entire block of "criticism" is. You didn't even read the comments in my PR nor did you read the forum thread that I linked explaining my reasoning, yet you called me out on the basis of completely made up knee-jerk sentiments. How can I trust you to work well with other people in the lore team when this is the kind of behaviour you display while criticizing others' work? If you can't do the minimum work required to understand someone's position, then I'm not sure I'd like to see you part of the lore team, which currently needs anything but this kind of attitude.

It still holds true that you didn't read the PR. The code in the PR is very easy to understand. You don't need code knowledge to look at the files and go "Oh there's an engineering security headset now, and all other versions, so the security officer gets it now". Whereas in the discord you got told a complete lie about the PR and bought it instantly (stationbounced radios). But let's skip that. I'm willing to say it was just a fluke. You said you can leave the department at any time. Then you go and say that you're removed from freeflow patrolling. No, you're not removed, it's just not the main focus anymore. It's really that simple. It's a better option because, like I said, you get to roleplay more with specific departments and the people in them. Also: freeflow patrolling as an RP tool is laughable. You damn well know that's just an excuse to do nothing, and patrolling doesn't lead to any RP in sec. You, chief among the people who go on "patrols" through maint then AFK at the end of hallways waiting for wardens to call people to the armory should know this. "Freeflow patrolling" is a flimsy excuse to hide behind when it consists in doing the same route every minute until something happens. You're not gonna lose on interaction because there was none with patrolling. None of what I posted had any "need" in it. You keep saying how people "need" to be in this department for interaction, when that's just not true. Facilitating interaction isn't a bad thing. Just because I make something doesn't mean I make it because I need it.

It does nothing to facilitate new RP because you're still stuck in an extremely narrow mindset. It doesn't railroad you- this is something you made up because you can't fathom the idea of being able to leave the department if you want to. You can either stay or leave. Humans are social beings - why is it that you can't talk to people to tell them "hey I'm going on a break" on an online game? This is all it takes to leave the department. How are you being railroaded with this in mind? People will interact with you if you're part of the department. If you've ever played any other department, you'll know this. People of your same department react better to you attempting to make a conversation with them as opposed to if you weren't. I can't give you examples of how people roleplay. This is a stupid thing to ask for. "Arbitrary decision making of a few people" Yet I see the majority here being in clear support?

Departmental officers get access to security radio and dept. radio. Sec radio includes hos/warden.
-
It was tested and then the PR died. People are acting as if there weren't any changes between this PR and the last one, which there were - the map is entirely new. I'd rather have departmental security tested for a week. The last test was only one round and there's absolutely no way you get used to changes so big in just one round, plus with a timeframe so small you get tons of kneejerk reactions from the affected role's mains that help nobody. I'd argue this PR gives me more choice and more ways to RP with people in departments in ways I wouldn't really have access to. Considering I can probably play cargo officer and go "hey I'm taking a break and walking around for X time", I'm 99% sure they'd let me. Which means I can patrol the same as before. There's no "railroading" from my perspective, it just adds onto the current amount of RP that you can do. The problem of "security can't be coordinated" has already been resolved. They get stationbounced radios.

Staff Complaint - Juani2400
MattAtlas replied to Wigglesworth Jones's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Stop posting if you're not involved. This is the LAST warning. Staff will decide the policy here. Someone going in and saying "Well others did this too!" is not constructive and doesn't help. If a complaint warrants new policy, then policy will be made. -
We've come to a resolution that this behaviour isn't in line with the rules. As we investigated the logs we found the player's behaviour to be more towards LRP, in addition to the jobhopping. A warning will be applied. Since this is an HRP server, we expect characters to not break the atmosphere and for characters to be believable, hence to not jobhop. There is more information of this in our rules. This complaint will be locked in 24 hours.

Coalf's Tajara Deputy Application
MattAtlas replied to Coalf's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I really like your stances so far. I think they're the ones that best represent what Tajara should be and I personally believe you to be one of the best for the job. You've always had a clear mind with goals, so I really doubt there'll be any issues Make Joker canon in Adhomai please. +1 -
Why not make them separate gamemodes?
-
For the record, I will fix the synthskin issue.
-
Hello, I'm the one continuining Poze's work. Some things I noticed during the test and have fixed: aliens being unable to select bodytype and shells having ethnicities. I'm considering removing the cold ethnicity as it looks really bad and making the default Warm w/ skintone 45. The reason that skintones are 30 to 220~ is because this system works based on a colour base to which we apply the tonality. This means that a skintone of 0 with a white base is just a chalk human. Re: synthskin, I guess I could fix it but I would have to see how they work. It might end up delaying the PR.

[Accepted] Borya's Cute Lizard Appication
MattAtlas replied to BoryaTheSlayer's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I think this character concept is cool, but what a lot of the "untouchable" alien players do is end up roleplaying the typical "I DONT NEED NO MAN" troupe, with no regard for what their social status was, or is. Do you have any kind of little quips in mind that would show this side of your character? I think that this kind of thing is best if someone can gleam it from not a lot of interactions. -
It's possible, yes. You'd have to ask the people who play malf most often about how annoying it is though. Feed distorters are an ok idea. Not too sure if it can be done, but they'd help with the instant recognization, though you'd be better off putting a gas mask on and removing your ID for that tbh.

Alright, let's break it down. 1. Removing cameras is a moot point based on chance. It doesn't matter if you remove the camera - the AI could be spotting you at any time before you approach the camera or the nanosecond before you cut the wire and your gig is up. If the AI spots the huge block of static after you remove the camera and sec gets there, you're in a very precarious situation. 2. I don't think we should balance antags around every single one having the space for a toolbelt, or the means to find one, especially since it's not a guarantee that you'll be able to find one. If anything, the door hacking tool is a better counterargument, despite it taking like 40 seconds. 3. It's very convenient for a traitor to conveniently have access to the captain's office, the time to break into toxins, the time to make a maxcap, a security team so dumb to not be able to stop it AND the luck for it to not be blatant ganking. If you break the floor and drop in, you have no way out of the AI core without being bottlenecked instantly by security. If you choose to go in via the upload, there are a lot of defenses there. I'm not really seeing this "no defenses" thing.

Whitelisting removes one part of the problem, which is the players. The other part is how laws are very open-ended and how it's completely reasonable for someone to argue that busting antags is, in fact, allowed by the lawset. Which it is. AI is a holdover from TG. Hell, the lawset that we use is a holdover from TG. There's also the question of how powerful bolting and cameras are. I'm going to wait on someone to say how exactly cameras can be countered instead of just going "well, they can't", so that we can actually have a debate about how powerful cameras/bolting are and how to come up with alternatives. The hostility in this thread is somewhat confusing - the minority that wants the AI removed is being painted as the hostile one, despite the pro-AI half being the one that's screeching the most. Keep in mind that this is a feedback thread. Ideas can change if you don't act like an ass about it. Which means, don't act like this and maybe people might change their mind:

The AI is a cancer upon gameplay. Its entire role is based upon the premise that it is benevolent enough to turn a blind eye to antagonists. It's very obvious why this is bad, because it creates an avenue for effortless validhunting. With the immense round altering power the AI has due to it being unchanged from TG days, it has no business existing here. Any attempts at a rework will fall short due to how monumental of a task it is. So, just excise the tumor now. I dont care about cyborg spawns. Inconsequential. Make sure to get rid of malf too since it will spawn an AI manually when selected.

Moondancer has (thorughly) explained the reasoning to what happened in PMs and has apologised for it. I'm willing to tentatively take back my comments if there's no repetition of the previous incidents within the next days. If people want to change, they deserve a shot at it imo. EDIT: I actually have a question for you. Lots of the synthetic lore you write is very grounded in reality and the massive theorywork you put behind it is impressive, but at the same time makes reading the stuff a grind since it's a lot of technical stuff that many don't really care about unless they specifically want it. What're your thoughts on the matter? Is it necessary to completely flesh out lore like this?
-
Adding to this, you have a lot of emotional spikes, Moon. You often lose your cool and stop listening to reason during them, two examples of which I can provide; - the Eridani rewrite discussion in the lore_channel; - the aforementioned Glorsh rewrite. I'm sure you know that how you acted in both circumstances was completely unwarranted. With these two examples I really think that this problem is a consistent one and I'm not sure it's an attitude any loredev should ever exhibit. Having a civil discussion about lore is a very important quality, one of the most important ones imo. Whether other team members do this or not is irrelevant, we shouldn't be adding more problems to the problems. Considering my experiences with you I really can't support this.

Dragos Cyberpunk lore deputy application
MattAtlas replied to Lady Fowl's topic in Developer Applications Archives
@DRagOInactivity is not an accusation. You can be inactive without doing it maliciously, which you said you aren't so I believe you. However I think it's a bit ridicolous that you're applying for even more responsibility when, like you said, you don't have the time to do it. I would endorse you if you weren't this situation. However it'd be unfair to any possible applicants, present or future, if someone in this situation got the slot over someone who can actually dedicate their time. I like you as much as the next guy but I can't consciously support this app. -
Dragos Cyberpunk lore deputy application
MattAtlas replied to Lady Fowl's topic in Developer Applications Archives
See, the problem I have with this app is that you were never really active. You bit more than you can chew by getting all these roles. Your last contribuition as a wiki dev literally doesn't exist. You never said anything in #wiki_maintainance. And I don't see you moderating much. I also don't really know if you've ever done anything for IPC lore. How are we supposed to trust you'll be active when there's plenty of evidence that you won't be? EDIT: I also have no idea what a supermoderator is. The more I think about the meaning, the less good things come out of it. -
I like this, though the HI logo is wrong.

stop sweeping maintenance the second the round starts
MattAtlas replied to Butterrobber202's topic in General
The only usage is getting gas masks from fire fighter lockers and removing the potential "bad" maint spawns (emp nades, knives, insu gloves/toolbelt) from anyone else who might use them. Also finding mercs when they dock. -
I like blue the most but alas we gotta stick with greenmed until command's color is changed to black or gold or something. I don't think it's hard to tell the difference between dark blue and baby blue, but I can see why people would mistake it.
