Doc's Synthetic Lore Deputy Application
CakeIsOssim replied to Doc's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Hello, and thank you for applying! I did say I was going to reply to your application tonight, but unfortunately, I have ran out of time being distracted and now I need sleep. With in the next day or so, I will make a new reply or edit this one with a fuller and more complex message for you. Just letting you know that I am keeping track still. -
Hello, and thank you for applying! I said I would reply to your application some time tonight, and well, I am. I have read your application (and all of its replies) but I have ran out of time tonight to provide a complex and complete reply for you, because humans need sleep for some reason. I will return and either edit this message or reply with a new one.

[Resolved] Staff Complaint - CakeIsOssim
CakeIsOssim replied to KingOfThePing's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Let me open by saying I am sorry you feel wronged by any number of my communications with you. It is not my intention to make people upset, for any reason. Now, let's get down to the nitty gritty. I read through your essay, and I have noticed parts in it that I could have genuinely done better, and I'll outline them first before getting to the other stuff. Yes, I could have contacted you over private messaging first instead of assuming you would rather do so. Yes, there WAS a misunderstanding of tone, and it was not addressed. Yes, I missed context in your replies to other questions. When an application is processed and finalized, either accepted or denied, it is standard procedure for it to be locked and archived. Any further deliberation after a final decision has been made is fruitless. It was not an act of spite, if that's the conclusion you came to. Two of the biggest issues I've seen you take out of this is that I was "mocking" and "disrespecting" you, putting those in quotations because they are the words you used. So that'll be my focus of this complaint - I won't be discussing any of the stats or graphs you brought up about the jobs or anything, because frankly, that is fixating on a non-issue. My problem with your application was the seeming attitude you had towards it, whether there really was an 'attitude' or not, it is how I perceived it. And it was not an act of defensiveness or disrespect, as you so claim. It is half of my responsibility to read through IPC whitelist applications, deliberate them with the appropriate parties, then come to a conclusion on whether I think the application is acceptable or should be denied for another attempt. The other half is wiki work and doing server events, et cetera. Assuming I do not read any of these applications start to finish (multiple times, in fact), is an assertion you have made and it is quite baseless. Not reading something is one matter, and missing context clues or reading between lines is another. Experimentation is not discouraged in my applications, though I cannot speak for the other species maintainers. I still stand by the fact that if you are asked questions about your character, you are expected to answer them. I asked you questions, you did not answer them. Also, going through each one of your figures is going to take too much of my time and yours, so I'll generalize as much as I can without losing a lot of the specific detail. In my first post, I asked you to tell me more about INGRAM, because I wanted to know more about the character. It did not matter you had already answered a similar question; it was not enough information to satisfy me the first time. I think that is a fairly simple question and does not assume any sort of maliciousness or lack of information - I'm asking you for more, not to tell me what you already told someone else. I asked this because the information you provided on INGRAM was fairly short. The information you provided was quite specific on the jobs and placements of INGRAM, who built it, why, and all of that. What was lacking was the character itself, which is what I was asking for in my first post. You replied in a manner I perceived as not caring about the questions or their meaning, and rather interrogative as to why I was asking the questions. I still was not asking about your roleplay - I asked you to provide more information and justified it with a bit of history as to what happened to IPC players in the past, whose whitelists have had to be stripped because of their character-breaking behavior. Those times were partially my fault because I allowed them to happen under my purview. This will no longer be the case. That should cover your figures one through six. Here is where we start getting into the weird understandings of each other's tone and intentions. Yes, I interpreted your reply in a negative way. I don't know you, I have never interacted with you. I have only the words in front of me to make conclusions, and I already covered this in saying that I was wrong to not simply ask you about them in private as well as the locking and archiving of applications. Your reply to my questions did not even really include any sort of request for clarification. All you stated was that a sentence was disconnected, you have never broken character, and then asked me to show you something you had yourself written. This goes back to the "not answering any of my questions" thing, which again goes back to the "seeming like you don't really want the whitelist" thing. Where the "misunderstanding" lies is in that very reply. Nothing in your reply strikes me as "asking back." Maybe I'm alone in that belief, and if I am, please inform me and I will retract and apologize for misinterpreting what you said. This goes back to "having nothing to prove," as I am not in the position to have to tell you why exactly I need something from you when I have already done so. And the final parts of your figures, I gave you exactly what you asked for. In fact, the only actual question I perceived in your post. You cannot call that a mockery, you asked me to provide that information to you. I still stand by what I said before showing you what you asked for, as well. I have to assume you want the whitelist until I start to read things that prove otherwise. There are people who apply just because they want a change of pace, and they do so quite lazily. The only way I can tell is by figuring out the intentions and context of the application. I voiced this concern to you by telling you that you need to help me understand why you want it outside of the one or two sentences in the original post, because you had not been very helpful outside of those two sentences. I was not mocking you, as no one was laughing or joking, or anything for that matter. In closing, I am not "playing dumb," and if you start doing so out of spite, then we will not be getting anywhere with this. From my point of view, you followed instructions up until I provided you with more instructions, to which you responded with what you thought was a request for clarity and what I thought was an excuse to not follow these instructions. There is no disrespect and no mockery. Since I believed we were not communicating clearly with each other, yes, I confided in kyres that this may be a misunderstanding of intentions. Turns out it was, and because of that, I left it open for another attempt without any prejudice or begrudging of the previous failed attempt. What exactly this is a lesson in, is not up for me to decide any more. -
[Denied] King's IPC Whitelist Application
CakeIsOssim replied to KingOfThePing's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I'm not asking you about your roleplay - I'm asking you to describe more of your application's character to me. I'm also not accusing you of anything. Regardless, you failed to provide any additional information to the requests I made, and instead, elected to point out your personal opinions towards the requests themselves. Any short number of answers would have sufficed. An essay was not required. Now, I'm going to be candid with you. I would be out of my place to imply that I have anything to prove to you. You are the applicant and you are requesting something from me. I am giving you requirements to meet, and you have only opinionated them. I do apologize for the extended wait period of your application, but I am seriously turned off by your attitude towards this whitelist. If you were going to show me you genuinely wanted it, you would make every effort to attempt to help me understand why you want it. I will humor you nonetheless: I do not pretend to rule over IPC whitelists with an iron fist, so I'm not giving you any more of a hard time than I usually give anyone else. Like I said, your attitude matters. And it really could just be a misunderstanding, but until you have proven to me otherwise, this application is denied. You are free to reapply whenever you so desire, I will not bar you from such. If there is a next time, please reconsider your approach. If you have questions or comments, you can contact me on discord at Cake#4864. -
[Denied] King's IPC Whitelist Application
CakeIsOssim replied to KingOfThePing's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Tell me more about INGRAM's interactions with people and how they would be played as an IPC role, rather than what IPCs can (or would) be doing mechanically. It's good you have some familiarity with their mechanics, but I already know all of that stuff. Tell me more about the character, their aspirations, prejudices, or literally anything else. EDIT: Additionally, "no one ever plays that job" is not a sufficient justification for weird job placement, in my book. But that's just a minor gripe. I really just want to know if you're ready to jump into the world of being a synthetic. A lot of IPC players in the past tend to break character under pressure, and believe me, there will be pressures -

[Denied] FalseShepardPie IPC application

Out of precedent, I must deny your application. While it has been up for nearly a month (my fault, does not affect my final decision anyway), your application was posted a day after your first log-on to Aurora station (as of this post, your last login date is October 1, as well). You appear to have a decent understanding of the lore, but I am not comfortable with accepting a very fresh player into the whitelist, and more than lore knowledge will be required to play an acceptable IPC. You even admitted yourself that you're not really sure what you're supposed to do as an IPC in your final note. You can contact me on Discord at Cake#4864 if you'd like assistance in this matter. My recommendation would be to do that and also play around on Aurora for another few months before reapplying. Playing bound synthetics should be especially beneficial in this regard. -

Huh? Its partner committed suicide because it was better than he was at his job? Am I understanding this correctly? If so, I feel like that not only escalated quickly, but also does not really sound grounded in reality. I understand having a bit of dark, hush-hush past and needing something to fill that past, but I'm not sure this really makes sense. Could you describe this particular subject to me? -
I'm going with the assumption here that English is not your first language, and that's alright. This did not negatively affect your application process. I feel I must still deny this application for a few other reasons. tbear13 covered most of my criticisms pretty much perfectly, so I can make this a little shorter. So your response to the second question leads me to believe you understand that IPCs are treated with the same regard as most other species, but then your backstory mentions that an under-performing IPC that belonged to the company was transferred somewhere else as a punishment. What would more likely occur is that the IPC would be dismantled and their positronic brain wiped or simply recycled to be used for a more functioning IPC. Additionally, I am not really comfortable with the strange dualities in the character, like how they are "respectful," but "also very judging of their patients," and even going so far as to talk down to them (as property, no less) for making mistakes. An IPC would not survive long in the world behaving this way. Also, medical doctors and paramedics have wildly different training, and while that does not necessarily apply to an AI robot, it's still not a combination of jobs that I would think was reasonable. tbear basically gave all of the feedback I had intended to give, so with theirs and mine combined, these are the weak areas of your application that will need work in the (hopefully) next iteration. I do wish to see you apply again when you feel ready, and if you need assistance, you can contact me on Discord at Cake#4864.

Any form of unwhitelisted IPC is probably not going to sound like a good idea to me. I don't like the sound of it now, and it probably won't change no matter how it is spun differently. Slaving them to the AI makes little difference to me in that regard, and all of those restrictions? Playing a borg would honestly be better at that point. Even borgs have the ability (even if they are not allowed to do it) to hit people with any of their tools. With all of those "limitations" for the only justification really being "they can finely manipulate objects," really just sounds like the idea of a ridiculously balanced (imbalanced not the right word to use here) change needs to be kept from being used the way it is not intended to be used.

You have done better this time around (and I may currently be acting in the face of objections) but I am still not willing to accept you off the bat yet. The character concept is not so much original but still executed in a slightly different way. I do really like your answer for what makes roleplaying an IPC different from humans. If you are actually going to play Fibonacci, could you elaborate if it has some kind of limit (either IC or one you set on yourself OOC) on how human-adapted it becomes? Because, it may come to a point where it will become indistinguishable from a human and we don't want that. Also, I don't usually do this, but since this is your second attempt, I would like for you to gain some feedback. Post your application in OOC once a round whenever you're playing and try to garner some attention. Also, these were minor issues but still tells me a bit about your character bulding: Why did NanoTrasen buy a group of androids to work aboard the Odin knowing full well that the androids were designed to work in smaller groups? Why was it able to just request a transfer and, in a matter of months, be humored and allowed to change places of work? Corporations usually know what they're doing, even on the micro scale. Sometimes things slip through, yes, but this seems like a pretty big mistake to me - IPCs purchased in large groups will, no matter what, be at least a few hundred thousand credits. I imagine someone probably would have gotten into trouble for that. -

[Denied] Comet Blaze's IPC Application
CakeIsOssim replied to Comet Blaze's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hello. My apologies for the delay in the review of your application. Going to be candid here because that's what this should be all about. I really like your passion, but you fall a little short with the backstory still. It's decent, but not great, and I know it can be better because your account's not even a month old since you very first logged into Aurora station. You seem to have a good understanding of the current lore - I'll touch back on this in a second. Right now, I think it is too early to grant you this species whitelist. I don't know much about you as a player, and it is somewhat amplified by the contents of your application. I think you should take some more time (another month or so) to keep playing. Try playing as an android or cyborg more and make a little bit of a name for yourself. Also take this time to invest in some of the current main events in the lore. You can do this on the forums also by visiting the Galaxy News subforum. Mendell City Bugle will likely have the most currently-relevant information, as it's the setting of our universe. If you have any questions or want to talk, you can contact me via forum PM or on Discord at Cake#4864. -

EC-2718 “Purpose” Appears Again! July 19, 2460 Recently, the Hephaestus contracted mercenary corvette Gjallarhorn made contact with an alien vessel of unknown origin matching no registered design. The vessel approached the Hephaestus ship quickly, making no effort to communicate until it was within a few kilometers' range. Having entered a near collision course, the vessel stopped abruptly and almost instantaneously off the bow of the Gjallarhorn. Some minutes passed, and the Gjallarhorn repeatedly attempted to establish contact. After this time elapsed the UFO began opening communications on hundreds of frequencies with zero encryption whatsoever. The image above is taken from an executive suite within the HPS Sidirourgeío, whose administration listened in on the dialogue between the Gjallarhorn and the alien vessel. The dialogue recorded was between an unknown transmitter aboard the UFO and the communications officer of the Gjallarhorn, whose identity is currently being protected. An edited transcript can be read here: What the transcript Hephaestus officials have released very clearly indicates sort of attempt at contact from the enigmatic Synthetic colony “Purpose,” who has until now eluded all efforts to establish dialogue. Following shortly thereafter, NanoTrasen had made a public statement regarding the presence of observation drones from Purpose within their own facilities. The NTCC Odin was informed multiple times over the course of March and April of the presence of peculiar drones on board the Aurora, Odin and Redemption. Until now, this information has not been disclosed to the public, but the sudden appearance of this vessel from Purpose is “surely not a coincidence,” officials say. After this public statement, observation drones have been spotted in the hundreds across Tau Ceti only to retreat into space. Tracking them has proven to be impossible. It is believed they are returning to Purpose with information they have collected, and this recent encounter only shows that they continue to reach out. They have been spotted in places as populous as Mendell City, and as secure as NanoTrasen stations, raising the question of what their capabilities truly are. As a result of the events transpiring, NanoTrasen is beginning to issue warnings to its facilities in regards to unknown synthetics and its fleet in Tau Ceti remains at a heightened alert status.

[Denied] TheBimmer231 - IPC application
CakeIsOssim replied to TheBimmer231's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hello. While I am sure you actually do want an IPC whitelist, you have not done a very good job of convincing me of such in your application. Your responses are short and very generic. So, this application will be denied. I do have faith that you may improve over time, however, so I will give you a few bits of advice for the next time you feel ready to reapply. First, I urge you to not play a security IPC for your first character. Second, if you really want an IPC whitelist, show me that you are passionate about playing and behaving properly as an IPC. Please try to fit at least three or four sentences into the one-paragraph-minimum sections. Speak from the heart. Flesh out your character's backstory a little more and stretch it out to two paragraphs minimum. If you require assistance with anything, you can contact me via Discord (or forum PMs). My Discord key is Cake#4864. -

The backstory for your character is very generic, I'm afraid. What convictions do they have now that they're free? Are they just gonna keep going and doing paperwork? How do they intend to pay the bills? What are their aspirations? Did they deliver themselves to Tau Ceti with some sort of plan? -
