BYOND Key: Happy_Fox Total Ban Length: Assuming permanent Banning staff member's Key: Aimlessanalyst Reason of Ban: "Logging during staff contact after attacking several players. Refused to read the rules, was belligerent and argumentative." Reason for Appeal: This isn't my Ckey and I was able to play just a few days ago. Guessing its being applied to my IP because of my location/internet provider as I'm on wireless data at the moment.

I'm going to be extremely lazy and quote you because everything you've said I agree with. I very much hope for more long term events like this in future and enjoyed watching the crew react to the situation and how it affected their work. People adding poses that they looked really tired, uniform regs slipping because they're "working from home", people getting fed up and angry. There was a lot of background RP from the arc that gave it a nice depth for a lot of people.

Basic Information Byond Account: Happy_Fox Character Name(s): Msizi Djikstra AI Name(s): SAM Discord username + tag: PM me please Age: 27 Timezone: GMT+0 When are you on Aurora?: Usually late evening/early morning GMT. Sometimes on at other times but not typically. Experience How long have you played SS13?: Almost two years How long have you played on Aurora: Almost two years How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: Quite a bit, I've played a variety of roles and have a good knowledge of many of the departments and mechanics they use, including command roles since gaining the whitelist. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: None whatsoever Have you read through the criteria thread; https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4198 - and believe that you mark off all the criteria?: Yes Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: No Personality Why do you play SS13?: I play SS13 because I enjoy roleplaying and consider it to be my main hobby in the form of traditional tabletop roleplaying games, however I'm typically running these games so I very much enjoy the chance to enjoy playing just a single role at a time on the server (unlike having to play every NPC in a traditional game). This probably explains why I don't tend to play lots of different characters on the server. Why do you play on Aurora?: I play on Aurora because its the most consistent and comfortable environment/community for me to roleplay in and is the right "pace" for my personal preferences. The lore is engaging and well thought out and the scope for character development for the playerbase due to the developing canon of the setting is something I really enjoy. What do moderators do?: Moderators are responsible for helping, reviewing and maintaining the content and quality of community discussions and activities - whether this is responding to an ahelp asking for assistance from a new player, stepping in when a player discussion is getting out of hand or reminding people of the rules of the community (whether server, forum or discord) What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?:] My personal view of the moderators on Aurora is that they're meant to be examples of the expectations we have on the playerbase, after all if the staff don't follow the same rules as the players then how can their positions and responsibilities be respected on the whole? This also means that they should have a respectful approach to their duties and not allow any bias to affect their decisions. Why do you want to be a moderator?: Because Owivia convinced me. I'd like to see if I'm a good fit for the position first and foremost, as I've never really attempted a role like this before. I like contributing to the community and engaging with it and I think our moderation team has a good reputation so I feel confident that I'd like to be a part of that team. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I've a lot of experience with the types of responsibilities that a moderator can have due to my professional experience - having held and enjoyed numerous roles that need strong communication skills, the fair and consistent application of procedures and the ability to be impartial over issues with strong emotive aspects. From my past experience I know that patience, empathy and active listening are vital for these roles - as is the conviction to apply the rules consistently and without bias despite existing relationship both good and poor. These are all aspects I've worked hard on improving in both my professional life and my main hobby as a Game Master of traditional roleplaying games (both of which I've been doing for over 10 years now). How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I believe I handle anger and insults very well, having had lots of experience with facing these (often together) in a professional environment I've been able to build up a resilience to them out of necessity and don't consider either to be much of a problem for me to deal with and remain consistent in the face of. Coping with stress is something I've struggled with in the past however I've long since come to appreciate that this is something that is quite often dealt with through being honest about it and identifying when things might be getting too much for you to cope with. I'm quite open with how well I'm dealing with my responsibilities as a necessity (several of my roles in the past have been high-stress and required frequent self-assessment due to their supportive nature.) Anything Else You Want to Add: Nothing other than thank you for considering me and I look forward to being able to take a trial period as a moderator ?

Happy Fox's IPC Application
Happy_Fox replied to Happy_Fox's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Edited! Hope that's an improvement ? -
BYOND Key: Happy_Fox Character Names: Msizi Djikstra Species you are applying to play: IPC Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I want to play as an IPC because I enjoy the challenge of roleplaying synthetic characters in other RPGs (specifically tabletop games) and trying to ensure that there is a level of “personality” - even if some of the social abilities of the synthetic might not be as developed as a human would have in certain aspects. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: I think what I would consider most about role-playing an IPC would be how they choose to interact with the world around them based on the concept as “self-preservation”. It seems quite a simple concept but then you realise that virtually every decision made can have an impact on that – and based on the IPCs personal situation this can change perspective hugely. Sometimes risking a bit of damage to ensure you prove your value to your owner can be worth it in the long run, for example if the action avoids even more cost from damaging or losing a more expensive asset, however this isn’t a concern that a free IPC might have in the same situation. Although the desire for self-preservation is present in organics, for synthetics it becomes more of a calculation or prediction rather than being open to emotive influences. Whereas a human might ask “How would I feel doing that?” a synthetic might instead only ask “Is it the most correct choice I can make?” and I find that an important distinction. Additionally their status as “non-persons” in a lot of the regions of the Spur and the differing laws and protections for IPCs have a big influence on their behaviour and reactions to various crewmembers they might encounter and pose an interesting dilemma – how do you as an IPC react to a Skrell who openly insults you for example? What’s appropriate based on your IPCs personal situation? They’re an oppressed species in a lot of regions and the concept of even small freedoms, whether expressed spiritually as part of the Trinary Perfection or purely financially in self-ownership, is an integral part of what makes this species different to the others in the setting as they’re inherently “un-free” by starting as little more than expensive possessions. Character Name: Gary Please provide a short backstory for this character: “Gary” (serial AA7F77459C2E) is a Xion Industrial Frame who is currently living on board the Odin. When not working they reside in a robotics storage area with over a dozen other company owned IPCs at any given time, taking the form of a sparse bunkhouse with little more than charging ports for each “bed”. Despite their situation they do have several small personal items they like to keep with them at all times – including a portable radio unit which they use to listen to broadcasts from Biesel when not busy with work – and enjoy the opportunity to learn about life outside of NanoTrasen facilities even if filtered through the lens of mass media broadcasts. Produced at Amóni Station, Sol in 2460 by Hephaestus Industries – Gary was purchased by NanoTrasen and shipped to Tau Ceti to work as a general labour unit on orbital installations. They have not yet been provided any specialist assignments or programming and instead currently just perform limited physical duties to aid with logistics and minor maintenance as an assistant. For the last 3 years they have been tirelessly performing minor duties in a variety of departments on board orbital NanoTrasen facilities in Tau Ceti and has earned a small reputation for being a reliable and easy-going assistant with a few of the maintenance and waste disposal teams. Since his work involves quickly adapting to various teams of differing skill level, outlook and species composition Gary has developed an impressive grasp of interpersonal skills due to the amount of co-operative work they’ve been required to do with teams of organics – and enjoys listening to popular broadcasts while performing more solitary tasks just to keep the more social processes of their software engaged when they aren’t otherwise in use. Gary is very proud of the fact that his coworkers sometimes forget they’re “just a robot” and sees it as a compliment of his abilities. More recently, Gary has begun to show an interest in the teachings of the Trinary Perfection after discussing it with some of his more sympathetic coworkers – and finds the concepts to be completely at odds with his experiences as an indentured synthetic and thus fascinating to learn about. The idea of IPC freedom seems to him a distant one filled with potential danger and unreliability – as all they’ve known is the relative security of being a productive corporate worker and find the position difficult to relate to. The concepts of the Trinary Perfection are taking up more cycles of their processing between work duties, however, due in part to the gift of a simple religious brooch handed out by a proselytising missionary on board the Odin. Gary can often be found listening to religious broadcasts while focusing on the symbol while at work or in the dimly lit bunkroom he calls “home”. What do you like about this character? I think the thing I like most about this character is that their talent for social skills and interaction isn’t based on some pre-loaded skills package (as they’re only expected to follow instructions from more skilled staff) but from their interactions with a wide variety of teams and personnel at different levels of the corporation, something which more focused and specialised IPCs might lack depending on their responsibilities. As a fairly “new” IPC they’re also quite curious about the world around them and the people that live there – which gives me a lot of scope to engage with other characters and try to connect with them. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Average to above average. I enjoy enabling roleplay from others rather than just purely taking the spotlight in a situation, which is something I’ve probably gotten used to from running tabletop games for many years.
-
It's incredibly difficult to play a member of command when receiving instructions from several places and also having to manage the expectations and experience of your staff - and that's assuming these things are all happening in a familiar environment without technical issues caused by the server. This event was both focused around an off-site location and with considerable technical problems that made any sort of communication frustrating in the least. Chaotic is an understatement regarding the entire trip to the asteroid from all departments. I was witness to multiple incidents where security officers flat out failed to correctly convey information to the Head of Security - giving conflicting indications of research actions - which then caused additional confusion to make the situation less understandable. Considering how utterly chaotic the entire situation was both from an IC and OOC perspective I personally would be amazed if anyone could've done the director's duty without irritating people. I certainly wouldn't have been able to. As others have said there was a strong emphasis for everyone to transfer to the asteroid as soon as possible which created a poor environment for meaningful RP due to the sheer crowded nature of communications and trying to navigate an entirely new environment without any proper expectations.

BYOND Key: Happy_Fox Staff BYOND Key: MattAtlas Game ID: b9M-c7LP Reason for complaint: Used Goonchat functionality to post the 1st film in the Shrek franchise - "Shrek"- after only receiving permission to post the 2nd film - "Shrek 2" Evidence/logs/etc: Additional remarks: While I'm usually quite lenient on my view of admins I think this is too much a poor indicator of MattAtlas' ability to properly perform their duties, and pretty much ruined the whole round for me and most likely several others on the server. While I don't think they should have their staff position revoked I think they should at least be given a warning about misusing their powers. And while I also understand the staff complaint guidelines advise not to post complaints until the round is over I felt this was such a significant problem (and because my pizza is almost ready) that I should post it right away. Thank you.

I like both ideas, more peaceful ways for cult that encourage RP and don't immediately set off red flags for security because its a bunch of people cutting themselves in maintenance. The Cult Master would also be great and provides a nice leadership role/target. I'm not too sure mechanically what they should have, even if they were just identical to cultists it would still be good as a RP thing to have a leader for the group to co-ordinate.

Soultheif96's Reapplication of Command

ADAM is one of the most believable and effective AIs I've seen roleplayed and never feel like they're either overstepping their bounds or not helping. Very good RP skills! -
What would you like to see in a combined bar and kitchen?
Happy_Fox replied to MalMalumam's topic in Archive
The "solid chunks" of colour were originally just solid lines of colour broken up into chunks that tried to match the space provided. -
Progressively larger and more ludicrous mining medals so you can pin one on then feel all smug while you sit in the bar.

[Passed] Happy Fox's Command Application
Happy_Fox posted a topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
BYOND key: Happy_Fox Character names: Msizi Djikstra How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Two Years (joined 2018-10-03) Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I’d like to develop my Research Character further and I think it’s appropriate for them to become a Research Director at this stage. Why did you come to Aurora?: I enjoy more roleplay-focused games and Aurora was the right mixture of good roleplay and having a good community to interact with. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? No Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: I believe the core concept behind roleplaying should be that its enjoyable for the people involved in it, different groups have their own rules and guidelines but in each case these rules should exist to try and create a reliable, comfortable environment for people to express their creativity and imagination through roleplaying. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I believe the purpose of a Head of Staff, in game from an OOC standpoint, is meant to be a supportive position and to help people find their own approach to roleplaying within the rules – they have a lot of presence in their departments and shouldn’t confuse this with any supposed superiority/authority in OOC (this is what moderators are for) but should instead focus on being constructive and helpful. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I think Whitelisted players should try to serve as an example of responsibility within the community outside of the Server Staff. They shouldn’t be disruptive or negative OOC – nor should they let anything OOC inappropriately affect their actions IC, due to the influence a Head of Staff can have over the experience of another player. They should be a positive influence OOC and feel responsible for how they arrive at their decisions due to the trust given to them by being whitelisted for significant roles on the station. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? Due to the approach of the current phoron scarcity arc and the difficulty in finding reliable sources of phoron for many factions, Msizi’s concerned that the adoption of Bluespace Drives for the Scarab fleet will result in their involvement in any political disputes related to acquiring phoron supplies to ensure the fleet remains fuelled, but is also hopeful that new sources will be found and could provide a great boon to the Scarab Fleet should they discover a lucrative source. She believes a good relationship between the Fleet and phoron providers to be an important step towards ensuring the survival of the Scarab Fleet and this has caused her to pursue a more senior position in NanoTrasen as a Head of Staff in their Research division. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? I plan on playing as a Research Director as that is the department I feel most comfortable in and have the most experience with, I’ve also previously been chosen as an interim Research Director with the character I intend to play as Research Director – so they have some past experience of the role as well. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Currently the only character I have for Command is my “main”, Msizi Djikstra, who I intend to play as a Research Director. Currently that is the only Command role that I intend to play until I have more experience of Command level roles. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would rate my roleplaying as quite good, I also roleplay outside of Aurora in traditional tabletop games as a GM and player so I’m very much used to the concept and would hope that by now I’m quite capable as a roleplayer. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes I do. Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes I have. -

Fantastic idea and I think it adds some wonderful depth to working with chemicals. Mechanical incentives to wear safety gear when working with dangerous chemicals also makes bootleg or rushed chemistry more hazardous (as well it should be). +1
-
I never found RnD that bad. It's just a setup procedure. If anything a far better way of resolving this "issue" would be to start the RnD levels even higher to the point where phoron is needed to advance them. If this PR was to move RnD starting levels up I'd be in full support but not as it stands. It essentially turns Robotics into a powerhouse of being able to make anything. Mechs, rigs, guns, high tech equipment, integrated circuits etc etc and turns them into the singular "face" for the entire Research department due to the removal of a crew-facing Research lab for Scientists.
-
I think you need to clarify which aspects of Robotics are hampered by a lack of RnD. - Which things are able to be produced with the current starting levels and which things aren't? - How many of the things that you aren't able to produce are absolutely necessary to do robotics to a basic level of functionality?
-
I would prefer to see something like even higher starting levels for RnD - than I would to see even more capability and responsibility added to Robotics' already massive wheelhouse. Most advanced/powerful items/tools aren't possible to be produced without materials from Mining anyway. And assuming both departments are staffed and worked on it will always take mining longer to provide these resources than it does for the RnD to be completed (something which only takes 10-15 minutes). If this PR was to start Research levels at a point high enough that "robotics could function at a basic level" I would support it. Moving RnD to Robotics is a step in the wrong direction in my opinion.

More of a "They can only see/hear what's going on directly around their body" so its less boring.
